I'm not amazingly happy with how this chapter reads, maybe I'll try and fix it later, but for now, here it is XD.
Monday, around 2pm.
Casper sat outside Alder and Dash's office. The chair he sat in was frozen, so was the wall behind him, and the floor beneath him. He had his arms around his legs and his face buried in his knees. He felt awful.
Earlier that day;
The students stumbled into the science room, Casper entering last.
Everyone was already sitting down, but the ghost was fixated on a jar sitting atop Mr Burns desk. The jar had a live frog in it. The ghost looked around at the student's desks; each one also had a jar with a frog in it. He knew what this usually meant and the feeling in his gut nearly made him throw up.
"Mr. Burns, why are there frogs on our desks?" Casper asked hesitantly.
"I will tell you all in a minuet, once everyone sits down." The dragon didn't heed much attention, sorting papers on his desk.
"You're not going to make us kill them, are you?!" the ghost asked, raising his voice in concern.
Mr Burns looked over at Casper, his eyes went a little wide at the ghosts concerned tone.
"We are going to be dissecting them, so yes." He raised a scaly brow.
Caspers expression dropped. "You can't just do that!" he pleaded.
The dragon chuckled. "Of course I can; it's for science! and there is no better way to learn anatomy!" he smiled triumphantly.
"Yes there is! There are plenty of diagrams and various other methods to show anatomy! You can't just put these poor creatures through this!" the ghost pleaded again, more desperate sounding.
"Oh, is that the concern? No need to worry, we will be killing them with a gas, it'll take them slow and painlessly. Maybe not as fun, but Alder and Dash made me change the method, some amphibious parents complained the last time..." The dragon trailed off, frowning at the memory.
"That doesn't make it better!" Casper snapped, an angry tone starting to leak.
The rest of the class had started staring at this point. Ra and Mantha exchanged a confused look, they weren't sure they'd ever seen their friend get so worked up, in retrospect, perhaps they should have ran to his aid, but it was happening all too quick to process.
"Calm down, they're just frogs! Now take your seat!" My Burns ordered sternly.
"Why does their life mean less?!" The ghost snapped again, a tear rolling down his face.
"SILENCE!" the dragon roared.
"NO!" Casper snapped back, mirroring the teachers tone.
The classroom stared in disbelief; Casper just told Mr Burns no. The ghost had also, at some point, floated up so now he was borderline higher than the teacher. And was the room suddenly a lot colder?
"This isn't for survival! We have no right to kill them!" the ghost snapped, another tear ran down his face.
"Yes we do! For science we do!" the dragon argued with a proud tone, like doing this experiment was an honor for him.
Casper's eyes turned shades of blue as he clenched his fists
"You call this science? This isn't science…" The ghost growled, his voice taking on a very strange and unsettling tone.
"This is a psychotic dragon looking for some way to express his murderous tendency's without getting in trouble..." He hissed with icey venom.
"They are just frogs! They are pitiful little creatures who's lives mean nothing, much like humans!" The dragon stated coldly.
And that's what did it. A stab to his dead heart that made him crack. Casper didn't know what he did until after he had done it…
He had slapped Mr Burns.
And hard at that; The large dragon stumbled to the side before looking back at the ghost in astonishment. Casper snapped out of his daze.
He shouldn't have.
Mr Burns saw the scared look in Casper's eyes and roared for the gargoyles. The world felt blurry for Casper as he was escorted to the headmaster's office.
The class was dead silent, but as Mr Burns sat back down behind his desk, Sibella quickly got up from her chair and walked over to the teacher.
"Yes Sibella?" The dragon asked, an annoyed and tired tone to his voice.
"In light of the todays disruption," her eyes locked onto his, he started looking a little dazed. He felt so light headed and far away…
"Perhaps we should save the experiment for tomorrow? I think the class is too shocked right now to properly focus and such a thrilling experiment…" she continued.
Yes, yes, she was so right. She was always right…
"Now that you point that out, I have to agree. Class, we will conduct this experiment tomorrow." Mr Burns concluded in a monotone voice.
Sibella broke eye contact, freeing him the persuasive hypnosis.
"Oh, and I'm afraid I've forgotten some of my supplies, I'll have to go back to my dorm to get it. But don't worry, I read todays chapter last night, so I won't miss anything." She smiled pleasantly.
"Alright, be quick and quiet, here's a hall pass." Mr Burns handed her a rock with "HALLPASS" painted onto it.
Sibella gave the rock a weird look, but quickly left the room. She had no time to waste.
"Casper, the headmasters will see you now." A gargoyle stated, walking out of the office *cough*unuseddormroom*cough*.
The ghost made no effort to move.
"Kid, get up."
He was still frozen, literally. Ice had been crawling around his body.
"Don't make me drag yo-"
Casper slowly unfolded his legs and wobbly put them on the floor, ice breaking off him as he did so. Even wobblier he stood up. Leaving icy footprints on the floor, he walked forward with the speed of a snail, his face dazed and still shocked. None of this felt real. He didn't hit people, and he would never hit a teacher, right?
Mr. Burns statement had just gotten to him so badly…he had been human once, did his life really mean so little? Did he mean so little to the world? Probably.
He felt so pathetic, walking into the principal's office shaking and crying. He hit a teacher, he deserved this, he shouldn't cry. He knew how he looked right now; like some spoiled kid not used to being punished, thinking they could get away with anything.
He was trying not to cry, but his face and eyes clearly were tear stained. Getting in trouble, on its own, wasn't something he'd usually cry over, but he had so much else on his mind. It was just too much for him…
He didn't even fully realize he was in the office until he sat down in front of Alder and Dash's desk. He just looked at the floor in misery.
"Well, well, well, Alder, look what we have here." Dash smiled evilly, looking at his brother.
"A delinquent!" Alder snapped.
"Correct!" Dash smiled at his brother before turning back to the ghost.
"Casper I have to say, we're quite shocked. Hitting a teacher?! I can hardly believe it." He continues evil smirk.
"Neither can I!" Alder chimed in with a serious frown.
"and it's an expellable offence too. With your past, well I don't think we could allow you to stay at Scare School. What kind of headmasters would we be if we just let you run rampant around the school? It would be incredibly irresponsible of us…" Dash continued, his evil smile never leaving. It was clear he was eating this up.
"and dangerous." Alder added.
"So, Casper, do you have anything to say for yourself? Any sort of defense before we call your uncles and sign your expulsion?" Dash hummed.
The ghost said nothing, he just kept looking at the floor. He had no defense.
Dash leaned right into Casper's face and smiled an evil, toothy grin.
"I didn't think so." He smirked.
Dash took a pen in tentacle and was just about to sign when the door slammed open. Sibella busted into the room, (after having likely hypnotized the guard.)
"Hold on!" she rushed over to stand next to Casper. "I've come to defend him!"
"Too late, we've already decided!" Alder stated firmly.
"And you can't just come busting in her-" Dash was interrupted by Sibella's haunting, hyper focused stare.
"You don't have a choice in this."Her voice took a scary tone as her eyes glowed bright red, the headmasters' eyes did the same thing.
"We have no choice." The two…whatever they are, repeated in monotone.
Casper watched on in confusion.
"Now, you will forget this event ever happened. Casper never hit anyone, he was not pulled into the office today." She continued.
"Casper did not hit anyone; he was not pulled into the office today." They repeated like the mindless slaves they currently were.
"Very good. Now hand me those expulsion papers."
The headmasters did as they were told, handing her the paper. She quickly ripped it up and stuffed the remains into her skirt pocket.
"This trance will break once I leave the room and the door shuts behind me." She instructed.
"This trance will break once you leave the room and the door shuts behind you." They repeated.
"Very good." She smiled.
Sibella grabbed Casper by the shoulder and led him out of the room. She walked backwards to the door, not wanting to risk breaking eye contact. She opened the door behind her, and pushed Casper out, then she quickly left the room and closed the door. Alder and Dash snapped out of their daze feeling rather dizzy and lightheaded.
"What…what just happened?" Casper blinked, he still felt so shaken up.
"You got your butt saved, that's what just happened." Sibella smiled proudly.
"Now, let's take you back to your dorm, you've had quite the day." She smiled caringly and took hold of his arm, leading him down the hall.
"Now, once we get back to your dorm, I want you to stay there for the rest of the day, alright?" She instructed.
"Ok." The ghost responded simply, he was still in quite the daze.
"Once you get back to your dorm, I also need you to wright down the names of all the students, and you need to cross out the names of your closest friends." She added.
"Why?" he looked at her with a confused look.
"I need to do a bit of damage control…I have to make sure some of the more gossipy students won't bring up the incident…" she explained with a gentle smile.
"Are you going to erase their memories?" he asked with concern.
"I'm going to block them, yes, except for your closest friends, whom you trust." She explained further.
He grimaced "Do you really have to?" he felt quite guilty.
"If news gets back to Alder and Dash, they could remember…" she frowned.
"Oh…does it hurt?" he looked up at her again.
"Them? No, maybe a few headaches, but no real pain." She smiled and gave his arm a reassuring squeeze.
"What about you?"
"I'm sure I'll be fine, don't worry. For now, go get some rest and keep low." A caring expression on her face.
"Alright…" he frowned.
Classes had concluded for the day and Sibella waited for the others to leave the classroom, once they did, she hypnotized Mr Burns into forgetting the whole incident. She made him think they had moved the experiment to tomorrow for other reasons. (Tomorrow morning, she would get up extra early and hypnotize him into thinking they already had done the experiment.) Then, she flew off to Casper's dorm and found Mantha and Ra already there. The ghost handed her the list. Now she just had to explain the situation to Wolfie and then Thatch, but first, she would have to do what vampires did best; hunt. She'd have to spend the whole day getting students alone to hypnotize them into forgetting.
It got exhausting rather fast…This much hypnotism takes a toll on the body, but she couldn't leave the job half-done ether. Oh well.
Sibella walked out of Dummygirls dorm, she had just finished that hypnosis job, only three students left and two guards… Just as she turned the corner, a firm hand grabbed her upper arm.
"Thatch!" She gasped as he gave her a suspicious look.
"You've been hypnotizing people all day, and I know it can't be for blood. What are you up to?" He responded bluntly, raising a brow.
She looked around for anyone; the coast was clear.
"Follow me, we should chat somewhere else…" she instructed.
He followed her into her dorm, luckily Harpie wasn't there. He closed the door behind them
"You know, I don't appreciate my friends being hypnotized." He crossed his arms and leaned on the wall, an annoyed look on his face.
"I'm sorry, but I had to. I couldn't take any risks." Sibella responded quickly and precisely.
"Care to clarify?" Thatch raised a brow.
She frowned and sighed.
"I had to save Casper from being expelled, I have to get rid of all the evidence of the incident."
The vampire boy jumped to attention.
"He was going to be expelled?!" he exclaimed with concern.
"Yes, but he's safe for now." She reassured.
Thatch then blushed and settled back against the wall.
"Well…that's good…I guess." He muttered.
She smiled at his reaction.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got 5 more people to hypnotize… Unless you want to help?" She raised a brow, offering out her hand.
He looked at the ground, avoiding eye contact.
"No, I, uh…I can't…" he muttered embarrassedly.
"You can't hypnotize, can you?" she tilted her head.
He snapped his attention back to her, wide eyed. She figured that out fast.
"No…not enough to fool anyone anyways…" he muttered.
"I see. Unusual, but I suppose the universe figured it couldn't unleash such a cruel concept onto the school. My goodness, the trouble you'd cause." Sibella laughed.
He chuckled. "True."
And with a smile she left. Annnnd then he realized that this wasn't his dorm, and he should leave too.
It was now late evening; everyone was heading off to bed. Sibella had finally gotten everyone hypnotized, but at a cost. She had a nose bleed and her head was killing her. She first grabbed some meds for her migraine and then headed to Casper's room. She knocked on the door, it was opened by Ra, who quickly let her in. Mantha and Ra had spent the day trying to help their friend out of his daze, and then once he was back to normal, they tried to cheer him up.
Casper and Mantha were sitting on the floor, looking at his laptop. The three must have been watching a movie. The ghost saw Sibella and quickly got up, dashing over to her.
"We have to save those frogs! I can't let Mr Burns hurt them!" He stated.
"I was thinking the same thing, which is why I also hypnotized everyone into forgetting about the experiment as well." She smiled.
The ghosts face lit up.
"My headmaster always told us there were only two reasons to kill something; Survival, and justifiable revenge." The vampriess continued matter-a-factly. "And I certainly doubt those frogs have done anything to deserve such revenge.
"I looked up those frogs, they are native to a bog on the island, we just gotta walk a little ways into the woods." Mantha chimed in, also getting up.
"Alright, so at midnight, we sneak into the classroom and get the frogs, then take them to the bog. Sounds good, but what are we going to do about all the guards?" Ra added.
Casper smiled.
"I think I can do something about that..."
Past the schools back entrance, and several feet into the woods, the 4 kids reappeared, each holding a box in one hand, and holding another's arm with the other hand. Casper let go of Mantha's hand then let out a sigh in relieve.
"I didn't know you could turn other people invisible too! Handy!" Ra smiled.
"Yeah, as long as I'm directly touching it, I can make it invisible, but it takes up a lot of energy, and I suck at it." Casper explained, rubbing his forehead.
"Let's not just stand around chatting, we got some frogs to free!" Mantha announced in a hushed tone.
The four began walking deeper into the woods, Mantha led the way with her map.
It was silent at first, but then Mantha spoke up.
"…I didn't want to ask earlier because you were in such a state, but…what happened? I've never seen you act like that. I know you love animals but…that was so unlike you Casper." She frowned in concern.
Casper hesitated, but responded after a moment.
"I know...Burns just go to me today. He…he said that humans were pathetic, and that our lives don't matter…" he just stared at the box he was holding, a frown on his face.
"Our?" Sibella raised a brow.
"I was human once, but then I died…did my life really not matter?" His voice began to crack. "Was I not important? Was my father not important? Or my mother, or uncles? Did their lives mean so little?" he fought back tears.
"Of course you were!" Mantha turned and looked at him, a concerned expression on her face.
"Yeah, everyone's important to someone, and that's what matters." Ra reassured with a calming smile.
"Ra's right. You loved, and do love your family. Mr Burns is just a hateful old dragon that needs his mouth glued shut for a few days…" Mantha scowled.
"Yes. Love is important, and if you have that then you are important. Whether this love be for family, friends, animals, plants, a partner, or ect. As long as you have love, you are complete." Sibella smiled.
"Wow, what little philosophers you guys are…Thanks." Casper chuckled, whipping away a tear.
"and thank you Sibella for helping me today. You really saved me." He looked back at her with a thankful smile.
"No problem, it was the right thing to do." She smiled back.
"What I don't understand is how such a nice girl like you is dating a jerk like Thatch." Mantha raised a brow, looking over her shoulder back at the vampire.
Casper couldn't help but feel a prick of pain, from both the reminder that Thatch was taken, and the insult towards Thatch.
"Well, for one thing he's handsome." Sibella grinned in a catlike manner.
"I don't know if I'd say that…I guess if your into bad boys with leather jackets." The zombie girl chuckled.
"and he's not that mean." The vampire added.
"Maybe not to you, to us, he's been a jerk plenty of times!" Mantha exclaimed.
"He's not that bad, Mantha…" Casper pouted.
"Casper, he's tried to get you in trouble countless times." she explained exasperated.
"Oh, he's grown past that. Now he just does little pranks, and besides, he saved me from an evil plant." The ghost smiled proudly.
Ah yes, who would want to be with Thatch? It wasn't like he had a nice face, or a nice hair, or a nice physique. And he certainly wasn't funny or charming…
Ok, he did have all those things, or at least to Casper he did. Yes, Thatch had an ego, a temper, and a bit of a mean streak, but he was also funny, and charming, and protective. And Casper greatly appreciated Thatch's blunt honesty, even if it sometimes hurt. The ghost preferred hurtful honesty to sugarcoated lies, he could at least work on something if he knew the whole truth.
And Thatch was annoying, but Casper liked that too. It wasn't the same kind of annoying like his uncles, it wasn't "take out the trash" or "do this", or "don't do that." It wasn't the "I'm unaware of your feelings", or the "I don't care" brand that his uncles often had. Thatch's brand of annoyance was "I know this bothers you, and thus I will do it because your reaction amuses me." He knew Casper well enough to know what annoys him, and that in itself was something significant. And a good chunk of the time, the ghost can't help but find it funny as well, even if he tries to hide it. For the past few years, Thatch has switched from mean pranks to simply annoying/confusing ones, and thus, Casper could find them funny. And for some strange reason, they do get along.
Casper liked Thatch, he liked him a lot.
"I guess that's true, but he's still a jerk…" Mantha shrugged. "Ok, we're here."
The four had arrived at some kind of bog, they could hear chirps from various forms of wildlife.
"Alright, let's start freeing the frogs." Sibella smiled, lowing the boxes onto the ground.
They all started opening up the boxes and gently encouraging the colorful amphibians to leave. Almost all of the frogs left, except for one little red one, who just kept staring up at Casper.
"What is it little guy? Why don't you run off into the bog?" The ghost smiled sweetly at the frog and attempted to shoo him away, but the frog just jumped on his hand.
Casper tilted his head at the little creature, but it just blinked at him gently.
"You have been chosen." Ra joked, making his voice sound like a wise sage or something.
"It seems like he likes me." The ghost chuckled. "Are these frogs dangerous?" he tilted his head at Mantha.
"No, but they do create a burst of light when threatened." She explained.
"And besides, don't you have enough pets? Your house is like a zoo." she put her hands on her hips and stared at him with a responsible glare.
"Yes…but what's one more?" Casper shrugged with a nervous chuckle.
Mantha sighed in defeat.
The notes in my script for this chapter are "Casper punches Burns :)" XD
