Episode 4: Meeting the Allies
"Might be a good idea, it's getting late anyway." Captain Salisbury said, standing up, "Alright, someone put this fire out. Red, your crew is on watch tonight."
Lucia stood with the rest of Easy company as a tanker shovelled some dirt onto the fire to smother it. As the group broke up, Lucia noticed a tank crew headed off toward their tank, which Lucia had learned was a Sherman.
"That's Red Villa and his crew, one of the best in the company." Clarence told Lucia, noticing Lucia watching the men climb into the Sherman.
"I thought you were the best crew, seeing as how you have the Pershing." Lucia shot back.
"I said they were one of the best, not the best." Clarence said. "Now, would you prefer to spend the night with me and the rest of the crew in the Pershing, or with the doughs on the ground?"
"Wouldn't it be crowded in the tank with six of us?" Lucia asked, noticing Earley with the Pershing's other three crew members.
"A little, the turret should be large enough for three of us however. I'll even let you have the gunner's seat."
"It's fine. I'll spend the night with the dough. Besides, I'm used to sleeping on the ground." Lucia told Clarence.
"Alright, suit yourself. The doughs are over there," Clarence said, pointing toward the treeline, "You may end up on watch duty however."
"It's fine. I'll manage." Lucia said to Clarence, walking toward the treeline.
"Enjoy your night then."
"I will."
Lucia kept walking toward the treeline, instinctively looking around for flashes of yellow eyes that would alert her to the presence of explorers. As she moved into the treeline, a dough motioned her over.
"You can spend the night with me. I'm the only one without a foxhole buddy anyway."
Lucia hesitated a moment, then decided to take the dough up on the offer.
"You can sleep, I'll watch for a while." Lucia said, sliding into the foxhole.
"Fine by me. Just, wake me up when you decide to go to sleep."
That night, around 02:38
"Hey Eagle Union, wake up." Lucia said in a harsh whisper, nudging the GI.
"My turn?" The GI mumbled.
"Yep. Nothing out there but darkness, so you should be fine." Lucia responded, settling down into the corner of the foxhole and closing her eyes.
Next day, roughly 07:05
"Wake up miss Iron Blood, it's time for you to present your genius idea to Captain Salisbury and Commander Berlin."
Lucia cracked open one eye as she saw the GI whose foxhole she had shared nudging her foot with his boot.
"Alright, I'm up." Lucia groaned as she extracted herself from the corner of the foxhole.
"The officers are over there." The GI said, pointing toward a smaller clearing than the one where they had eaten dinner the evening before.
"Thank you mister..." Lucia said before trailing off when she realized she did not know the GI's name.
"Private Dick Schnider. Now get moving, the Commander dosen't like to wait." Private Schnider said, indicating Lucia should get going.
"Alright. Thanks Private Schnider."
"No problem. Anytime you need a foxhole buddy, just find me. Now get going." Private Schnider told Lucia.
Lucia turned at walked toward the smaller clearing, where Captain Salisbury and Commander Berlin were waiting next to a Jeep, a map rolled out on its hood.
"Took you long enough." Commander Berlin said impatiently as Lucia walked toward the two officers.
"Take it wasy on her." Captain Salisbury said, laying a hand on Commander Berlin's shoulder." She isn't used to operating with multiple people."
"Whatever." Commander Berlin retorted, "Just where is this communication device you told us about last night?"
Lucia walked up to the map on the jeep's hood and studied it, looking for one specific city.
"Here." Lucia said, pointing to the city in question.
"Oh come on!" Commander Berlin yelled, more than slightly mad. We lost many good men along with Captain Boom. "I'm not going back there."
"Commander, with all due respect, we are going to need your assistance. This isn't going to be an all-out needs to be a stealth mission, only fire when needed." Lucia responded, trying to keep her voice calm.
"Fine. We go quietly. What else do we need to know?" Commander Berlin snapped.
"Before I get to that, Captain Salisbury," Lucia said, turning toward Captain Salisbury, "Do you have objections or input?
"Not at the moment. Please, continue." Captain Salisbury spoke, clearly interested in where this was going.
"Alright. Commander Berlin, as to your question, the place is guarded by about one company of explorers, and the city itself has around 2 companies worth of explorers. Thanks to your bombing raids, most of the city is destroyed. Due to this, the explorers are using the destroyed buildings as cover." Lucia reported.
"How can we trust your information?" Commander Berlin asked in a harsh tone, "You can't be any older than seventeen. How can anybody, let alone a teenager, learn about stuff like this?"
"I will have you know that I am eighteen you hochnäsiges arschloch. I have spent the last few months hiding from those gottverdammt sirens, while spying on them the entire gottverdammt time. You can choose to believe me or not, but I guarantee you that if you choose to ignore the information I nearly died several times to get, then any man under your command that dies will be on your hands." Lucia spat at Commander Berlin, fuming.
"Commander Berlin, I'm inclined to believe this girl. What would she gain from lying to us? The sirens have taken over her country. Hell, they've probably taken Eagle Union. We have to trust her if we ever plan on getting rid of the sirens. Captain Salisbury spoke up.
"Fine. We go with the kraut girl's plan. So fräulein, what do we do?
