Chapter 14

We were out hunting with apprentices. Darkpaw had been a little quiet after last night. It wasn't too much of a surprise. After all, she had learned that her mother was evil. She also was a little off in her hunting thanks to this. Still, not too much of a surprise.

"Hey Darkpaw, can we talk for a moment?" I asked.

She looked up. "Oh, I guess so."

I gestured for her to follow me a little away from everyone else.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I guess so," she responded.

"If you need to rest some, I'd be fine with that. I'll let you go back to camp and sleep," I told her. "I doubt you got much last night."

"Okay," she responded. "I'm tired anyway."

"Silkshade!" Tallblaze yowled, running over. "I need you and Silentstorm to help me find Shorty!"

"You take your sister back to camp, okay?" I said to Darkpaw. "And tell Silentstorm to catch up with us."

"Okay," she responded numbly, going over to where the others were.

Tallblaze and I began tracking Deathfire. Silentstorm caught up with us just as we found her with Flurrytail.

"What did you do to her?" Tallblaze growled.

"Nothing," Flurrytail responded.

"Tell us or I'll kill you," Tallblaze threatened.

Flurrytail grew silent for a moment, contemplating if he meant his threat or not. "I didn't do anything, she just hit her head a little too hard," she told him. "I'll be going now."

"Silentstorm, I need your help to carry her back to camp. We'll need to be gentle," Tallblaze ordered, taking charge. "Silkshade, go ask Frostbite what to do. I don't know how to treat this."

"Okay," I agreed, running off towards SnowClan. Cats probably need to stop sending the blind cat to do this.

I was running through SnowClan territory when I got stopped. "What're you doing on our territory?" Blizzardfang asked. I recognized her because she was the SnowClan deputy.

"Tallblaze needs me to ask Frostbite a question on how to treat a patient. It's urgent," I told her.

"It must be urgent if they sent a blind cat," Thawclaw laughed. That one I recognized because he was a fox-heart to me last time.

"Thawclaw, take her to camp," Blizzardfang ordered.

"Why me?" Thawclaw asked.

"Now," Blizzardfang ordered.

"Fine," he sighed.

He muttered about kittypets all the way to camp, but I ignored him. I had more important things. As we entered camp, cats all silenced.

"What do you need?" Icestar asked.

"Tallblaze asked me to come ask Frostbite a question," I answered.

"If it's medicine cat business, continue," Icestar told me. "Thawclaw, show her to the medicine cat den."

"Thank you," I told him.

Thawclaw showed me to the medicine cat den.

"And what do you need, Silkshade?" Frostbite asked as I entered.

"Tallblaze wanted me to ask you what to do for a patient," I told him.

"Ask away," he responded. "I don't have all day."

"She hit her head super hard and is unconscious," I explained.

"Well, just keep an eye on her and if she wakes up keep her in the medicine den until she's had no headaches or nausea for a quarter moon, just to make sure she doesn't hit her head again because then she'd either die or be paralyzed most likely," he told me. "Nothing you can do right now, I'm afraid."

"Nothing?" I asked.

"Yes, nothing. Now get out of here, I'm busy," he responded.

"Thank you!" I told him, leaving. I left the den.

"Thawclaw, take—" Icestar began.

"I'll take her to the border!" Moonblossom volunteered.

"Alright then," he said.

Moonblossom led me out of camp. "So, how's Deathfire doing?" she asked.

"She's the one I had to ask Frostbite about," I admitted. "Hit her head pretty hard and is unconscious."

"She'll get better though, right?" she asked.

"There's nothing anyone can do apparently," I answered.

"Well, hopefully StarClan won't take her yet," she responded. "She's a great cat."

I nodded. "Everything should be fine in time."

"How's she been doing before that?" Moonblossom asked.

"Everything is really hard on her right now, she's really stressed and keeps having problem after problem," I told her. "Everything has to turn around eventually though."

"Well, we're here," she announced. "And tell Deathfire I said hi when she wakes up, will you?"

"Will do," I told her.

I sprinted towards camp. It wasn't long before I arrived and went straight to then medicine den.

"What did he say?" Tallblaze asked, walking right up to me.

"He said there's nothing anyone can do now and to not let her leave the medicine den until she has no headaches and nausea for a quarter moon if she wakes up," I told him, shuffling nervously.

"If?" he asked. I nodded slowly. "So she could die?"

"Yeah, she could," I answered.

A few days had passed. I was sitting in the medicine den as I often had the past three days.

"I'm starting to get worried," I admitted.

"Me too," Tallblaze agreed. "Shouldn't she be awake by now?"

"We don't even know if she will wake up," I responded.

"If she doesn't make it, the first thing I'm doing is killing Flurrytail and the second thing I'm doing is killing Wingstar," Tallblaze told me.

"Keep it down," Deathfire murmured. Deathfire?

"Shorty!" Tallblaze exclaimed excitedly.

"You're alive!" I exclaimed.

"Hey," she murmured. "And keep it down, my head hurts."

"Sorry," Tallblaze said, lowering his voice. "How do you feel?"

"Terrible," she responded.

"Just get some rest then, you'll be in here for a while," he told her.

"Okay," she responded.

"I'm glad you're okay," I told her.

"Okay is an overstatement," she muttered.

She was fine! Everything would be okay.

Author's Note: Frostbite would 100% be a cat who cussed if warriors knew twoleg cuss words. I have a mental list of cats who would. Honestly, I've debated letting Murderscar actually say a cuss word. She was a kittypet after all. Petition to let Murderscar cuss? Also we posted two weeks in a row! Yay! I may be getting back to my old schedule finally! Anyway, leave a review if you'd like. They mean a lot. I will see you next week!
