"…I'm sorry, what?" Derek's eyebrows were furrowed, his body turning more to face Amelia. "Addison Montgomery… as in—" He cut his sentence off, and Amelia responded with a feeble nod.
Derek stood up off the bed, motioning for her to do the same. "Come with me," He started walking down the hall, toward the exit of the ER—with Amelia following behind. He stopped Dr. O'Malley, letting him know that her neuro check was fine and that they could wait on the CT. Amelia kept her eyes on the floor, shuffling her feet nervously as the two men spoke.
They were walking again a few seconds later, reaching a door with a plaque next to it that read 'Chief of Surgery.' He closed the door behind them, motioning for her to sit on the couch. She did so, hugging her legs close to her chest in an attempt to hold herself together.
Derek opened a desk drawer, pulling his phone out—and Amelia was suddenly on her feet, walking over to his desk. "What are you doing?" She asked, trying to force the panic from her tone.
"I'm calling Addison," He replied, as if it were obvious. "I'd like to hear it from her."
"What—you don't believe me?" She raised her eyebrow, her arms folding over her chest.
Derek set his phone down on the desk, a small sigh leaving his mouth. "Well, any doubt I had that you were Addison's kid is gone. You look just like her…except for the eyes," he said quietly, sounding more like he was talking to himself than to Amelia. His eyes met hers, and Amelia wasn't sure why—but she suddenly felt like she was going to burst into tears. "Are you… do you know if you're…"
"Your kid?" She asked, annoyance clear in her voice. He nodded slightly, his face growing pale again. She nodded slightly, and his speculative expression didn't change. She rolled her eyes, emitting a quiet huff as she moved swiftly back to the couch, opening her booksack and pulling out a manila folder.
She walked back over, placing it down in front of him and flipping it open.
"There you go—my birth certificate. My name, my mom's name, and your name." His name was printed, but the signature line below it, of course, was left unsigned. "Now do you believe me?"
Derek didn't answer, his eyes locked on the piece of paper, analyzing every line. He looked up, his expression unreadable. "Does she know you're here?"
Guilt crept in, making her throat feel tight. "No," She answered softly.
Amelia saw him reach for his phone again, but they were interrupted by the sound of a knock on the door.
"Not now," he called to whoever it was, but they apparently hadn't heard him. Amelia turned to face the older blonde woman who'd entered the room, both of them immediately looking embarrassed. The girl shuffled back over to the couch, hugging her legs against her chest once more.
"Oh, sorry," the woman said apologetically. "I didn't realize you were meeting with someone…" She approached Derek's desk. "Thought you might need a pick-me-up," She said, placing a cup of coffee next to him.
Derek sighed, putting his phone back on his desk. "It's fine, Meredith…" He ran his hand through his salt-and-pepper tresses, stress clear across his features. "Sit down for a sec; there's something we need to talk about.

"So, let me get this straight—you were married for twelve years, and you hid that from me?!" Meredith asked for the third time, pacing the length of Derek's office. She stopped, turning to face Derek—her hands planted on her hips. "We're married, Derek. We have children. I cannot believe you kept something like this from me!"
Amelia sat awkwardly, still in her same spot on the couch. She rested her forehead on her knees, her shoulders slumping. She felt horrible; like she'd swung in, wrecking ball style—causing nothing but confusion and chaos.
She didn't know what she'd expected when she'd arrived in Seattle, but it definitely wasn't this. She stood up, fight or flight making her creep toward the door—while they too busy arguing to notice—but her attention was diverted by the sound of Derek's phone ringing.
"Who is that?" Meredith asked, frustration thick in her tone.
Derek's eyes locked with Amelia's, and her stomach sank before he even answered.
"It's Addison."
