It's the night before the final battle and Arslan can see the future he wants for Pars clearly. One lifetime is not enough to achieve it, but he's determined to point the country in the right direction. And Daryun can only follow, breathless. When Etoile suddenly reappears in Arslan's life, they both struggle to re-evaluate how they feel about one another and figure out the path to happiness, but greater dangers loom on the horizon.

Arslan gets poisoned by Andragoras. His friends nurse him back to health. "When he woke, he felt ill, deeply ill, hot and dizzy as if he was gripped by one of those winter diseases that left people lying in beds for weeks, delirious, with aching muscles and pounding heads."
