"Get down! Get the fuck down!" yelled a White Mask over the sounds of gunfire, "Sniper!"
Twelve of them had already been shot down by Glaz, and the rest either ran inside the building for cover, or were hiding behind their black vehicles.
One of the radios on the White Masks inside the building yelled, "Secure those fucking explosives! And kill that son of a bitch Tar-" he was immediately cut off by a loud gunshot followed by a thump on the ground.
"Sir? Sir! Goddamn it! You heard him! Go upstairs!"
They all rushed up the stairs with LMGs and submachine guns, checking their corners and watching each other's backs.
"Sixth floor! Keep moving!"
Suddenly, a grenade with a Union Jack painted over it rolled to the group's feet and exploded, causing a shroud of darkness to envelop the floor.
"Shit, I can't see!"
"Hold the railing and move to the next floor, now!"
"Anybody else hear hockey pucks?"
"Wha-"
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM
A White Mask outside behind cover looked up at the building to see a giant puff of black smoke erupt from the 6th floor's windows and glass shards falling.
"I should have taken guard duty instead..." he whispered to himself.
"Enemies on 6th floor eliminated." Fuze reported over his radio on the 7th floor.
"Damn, and I never even got to use this shotgun." Thermite sat down in a chair.
"Don't get too comfortable yet, there's still a few left outside. And it seems as though they've called in reinforcements. Too many for us to handle too." Glaz reported.
A bullet whizzed centimeters passed Glaz's face and he immediately dropped and took cover.
"Looks like they've got their own sniper too. I'm unsure of where he is, maybe east of my position."
Thermite looked at Dokkaebi and asked, "Wasn't your job to make sure they weren't able to call in for reinforcements?"
"I- I did! I don't know how they still managed to call for back up!"
"Well find out, damn it!"
"Oi, Thermite! Leave her alone! It looks like there's more coming up!" Thatcher yelled while shooting over the stair railings.
"What? Glaz! Why didn't you let us know the reinforcements already entered!?"
"I'm a little busy at the moment." he said while under sniper fire, "It seems as though there's more than one of these snipers on me. They're pretty good too. You are going to have to hold them off without me while I deal with these sharpshooters."
"For fuck's sake, Glaz." he sighed, "Alright, how many vehicles did you see come in just now?"
"Fourteen more." Glaz answered.
"Great. I guess we're going to have to call... Him."
Dokkaebi looked at Thermite and smirked, "Guess who owes Tachanka a drink!"
"Oh god." he pinched the bridge of his nose, "Just... Just call him and get it over with."
"No, no, no! You should do the honors!"
"Why do you have to do this to me?"
Dokkaebi handed over her cell, "Here, it's already calling him."
Thermite slowly took the cell out of her hands and put it against his ear.
"Da? Dokkaebi?"
"Uh-I. No, it's me. Thermite. Listen-"
"Ha, guess who owes me a drink!"
"Fuck off and help us out here. We're surrounded by multiple tangos and Glaz is pinned down and Dokkaebi won't stop giving me that stupid smug smile of hers. You said you still have some connections to the Russian army, right? Can you get some of your fuckbuddies to help us out here?"
"Fine, fine, bratuha, but remember the rest of the deal!"
Thermite quickly gave back Dokkaebi's cell and grabbed his shotgun, trying to change the subject, "Thatcher! I'm coming, buddy!"
Harry "Six" Pandey's Office
"Listen, all I'm saying is that we should keep an eye on Wamai and Kali, I'm not saying we should get rid of them completely."
"Ash, may I remind you that you literally suggested to wiretap them? Which, I doubt will work by the way." Harry chuckled.
"Harry, Nighthaven isn't exactly a group we could trust."
"Do you believe spying on them will make the trust situation any better?"
"Listen, I'd appreciate it if you'd give me some more credit, Harry. Maybe I know somethings too. And maybe after doing this job for years, I'd KNOW when something is up."
"What exactly is "up" Eliza? You don't think they're spies, do you?"
"No, but private military groups never really work well with people like us."
"Us? Who is "us"?"
Ash seemed confused by his question, "Harry, if this is one of your philosophical lectures, I don't want to hear it."
There was a knock at the door and they both turned their heads at the sound, Harry smiled back at Ash and said, "I'd love to talk about this later." to which Ash responded with a sigh.
"Come in!" Harry yelled.
The doors opened and Twitch walked into the office with folders in her hands, "I hope I'm not interrupting, yes?"
"Don't worry, we weren't getting anywhere anyway." Ash said walking straight past her through the doors.
Twitch raised her brow watching Ash stomp away.
"Don't worry Twitch, you're fine. She's just... Well, you know how she is. Now, what have you got there for me?"
"Well, it turns out Tarret is a lot more valuable than we once thought." she answered, handing him one of the folders.
"Ah, yes, Mr. Tarret. He's the one Thermite and Dokkaebi were sent out to extract, correct? Let's see here."
He began skimming the folder remarkably quick, as he was a fast reader. However, he slowed down on one page and began reading it very carefully.
He looked back up from the folder and asked, "Tarret was involved with the Bartlett University Massacre? How did we not know about this?"
"According to my reports, he underwent extensive measures to change his identity, to become an entirely different person within the White Masks organization, completely unrelated to the attack. But, it wasn't extensive enough."
Harry chuckled, "Good, I'm glad we've figured this out then."
"That's not all Six, flip the page."
Six did as she asked and read the next page intently. After reading it, he smiled and put the folder down slowly, "So, it's true then. He was at the warehouse with the hostages. One of only two or maybe three surviving White Masks. Fascinating, to this day, we still don't know what happened. Who saved those hostages, how many of the rescuers were there, we know none of the answers to these essential questions. All that was left were bodies and fire. Even the captives themselves said they didn't know who their savior or saviors were. Unless, of course, they're lying. Well, Twitch, you've done a remarkable job, was there anything else you needed to tell me?"
"We got word from the Russians that some jets have taken off without permission and are heading to Thermite's location now with enough ordnance to destroy half the town."
Six, who was drinking his coffee, almost spat it out, "What? Why?"
Twitch sighed and gave a light chuckle, "Before they left, the pilots left a note saying, 'Our Lord calls for our might.'"
Six facepalmed, "Tachanka..."
