Doug's Last Night
Author's Note: So here we are. Approaching the end of the story at a slow pace after almost two years of writing. I once again apologize for my slow speed thus far, but I do appreciate the patience you've given me to make it this far. Each review, follow, and favorite has reminded me who I'm writing for and how much more you want to see from me. And after you finish this one, there will be a note of information for a special event for me. Enjoy for now. :)
Happy Hotel Lobby 10:30 PM
The lobby was fairly full with a bunch of Egg Bois from before along with a couple of unique guests. Helsa and Seviathan are sitting at one table with an evil conversation going on that they failed to get Charlie involved in. The princess is busy at the check-in counter looking at a scrapbook of family photos and crying softly as she does. As for Angel Dust, he's looking around and waiting patiently for the return of someone. He turns to Octavia and gives her a couple of instructions before Loona points outside.
"There he is." She states, pointing outside the window to see a fairly injured Douglas approaching slowly with shaking muscles.
"Alright, you know what to do, right?" Angel asks as Loona and Octavia nod. "Alright, let's go." He gives them both a small motion with his hand. Suddenly Tex appears at the Von Eldritch table.
"Hey, guys what's going on?" He asks curiously. Both of them face him, Seviathan frowning.
"Nothing that concerns you hellhounds, just us royals." He says with annoyance. Helsa frowns with him.
"Yeah, didn't your boss ever discipline you to know who you're speaking to?" Tex rolls his eyes and shrugs.
"As far as I know, everyone in this hotel is equal by Charlie's standards. You wouldn't want to disappoint her now would you?" He asks, getting an evil grin from Seviathan.
"I'm not worried one bit. Now that her girlfriend was killed and that boy went to the clocktower, she's all mine!" He celebrates as Tex frowns.
"What if the little dude won the fight?" He asks. Helsa makes a fist.
"He's dead where he stands if he comes in here! Charlie herself said he's no longer welcome at this place!" Angel watches quietly as he listens in on what they're saying. He sees Douglas standing outside behind a bush to avoid Charlie's line of sight. He then looks to Octavia as she gently talks to Charlie in an attempt to cheer her up while distracting her. Loona gives him a signal to open the door.
"Psst! Douglas, come here!" Angel whispers from one of the back entrances away from the front and a little past the check-in desk. The young warrior slowly makes his way to the door with a still tense feeling in his muscles. The sexual spider grabs him softly by his left arm and guides him into the room. With the help of Loona overlooking Charlie and the Von Eldritch twins, he successfully sneaks Douglas out of the lobby. "By the way, are you doing okay?" He asks.
"I guess so," Douglas answers in a quiet tone. "Vox was the scariest person I've ever faced," Angel smirks as they get closer to the elevator.
"Well, I can only guess based on your appearance that you won the fight. Now you don't need to worry about him anymore." Douglas chuckles softly and coughs.
"I guess not." He says with a light smile as they stop at the elevator. "Does the elevator work now?" He asks as Angel opens the doors, only to see a long cable that stretches down.
"Unfortunately no, but we're gonna climb to the next floor." He says, grabbing the cable with two of his arms. "Come on in." Douglas sighs and looks to the floor.
"I don't have enough grip strength or control to climb right now. Vox really stung my veins." He comments, causing Angel to gloom a bit.
"But we have to climb. If we take the stairs, Charlie will see us." He states, getting a deep sigh from the holy soldier.
"Maybe it's for the best that she knows." He says, thinking about this morning. "I assaulted her when she tried burning me this morning."
"But you didn't kill her." The sexual spider remarks. "Or Vaggie for that matter." He adds.
"She thinks I did though. And I don't really feel like I have any credibility here anymore." Douglas says shamefully. Angel sighs yet again.
"Look buddy, you've come a long way and probably won't need more than one more night here. But we need to make sure you're well-rested if you want to have a shot at your final battle." The young warrior frowns a bit.
"I've won enough battles already. I've killed more than ten people since I came here and maybe an unpleasant sleep is what I get for my bloodlust." Angel facepalms.
"Dude, you just killed Vox. Do you have any idea what that douchebag has done to people?" Douglas nods, frowning a bit.
"Believe me, Vox is the most satisfying person I've killed since the Reaper who murdered my family. But this time is gonna be different…" He pulls his list out of his pocket and stares at it.
"Why's that?" Angle asks, stepping out of the elevator to look over his shoulder. Douglas sheds a single tear as they both look at the only remaining overlord.
"I'm gonna need to kill Alastor." He says with deep sadness in his voice. Angel gives him a light gloom.
"Nobody else is left? Maybe there are some evil gangsters you could kill tomorrow and face Alastor later?" Douglas pockets his list and stares at the floor.
"I don't want to. The longer I'm here, the more people I end up killing. If I can just get Alastor and leave, that's all I want to do." He then mumbles. "But I don't really want to kill him."
"I know how you feel, man," Angel says, patting him on the back. "But I want you to do the best you can even if he wins the fight. You need a nice warm bed to sleep in tonight." Douglas spasms softly and leans forward a bit.
"I can hardly stand right now. I might as well just fall asleep on the floor." Angel quickly grabs him by his wrists to keep him from falling.
"Just stay quiet and I'll carry you up," Angel says, hugging Douglas with four of his arms and then grabbing the cable with his last two. Douglas winces a bit and hugs Angel to keep his grip on him better. The sexual spider begins to slowly climb the wire.
"I don't like this." The holy soldier mumbles, glancing down and not seeing a floor below the cable.
"Don't look down," Angel suggests as he continues to climb. "We just need to get to the second floor and then we're out of Charlie's sight." Douglas sighs and holds out one hand to emit a small holy light to illuminate the dark elevator pathway. It isn't long before Angel reaches what they can recognize as the brass floor between the door and the wall. "Okay, we're here." Angel says as the young warrior frowns a bit.
"How are we gonna open it from the inside?" He asks, causing Angel to pause.
"Oh… I guess I hadn't thought about that." He says, leaning forward a little. "All I can think of is knock loudly and hope Charlie doesn't answer the door." As he holds out a fist to knock, Douglas puts an arm to his.
"You want to risk whoever's out there telling her that I'm back?" He asks lightly. Angel growls a bit under his breath.
"If someone untrustworthy answers, I'll tackle them and you make a run for it. Got it?" Douglas shakes his head softly at this idea but doesn't have much strength to hold on left and can feel Angel's grip on him getting looser.
"Fine, but just know I think this is a bad idea." He remarks quietly. Angel ignores his thought and starts to knock on the outer door.
"Hello? Is anyone out there?" He asks in a slightly loud tone. Douglas watches patiently as they wait but don't hear a response. The sexual spider knocks again. "HELLO?! ANYONE THERE?! THE ELEVATOR IS JAMMED!" Douglas rolls his eyes and reaches into his pocket.
"If this isn't going to work, I'll use my flare gun." Angel cringes as he pulls the Heaven's Glock is revealed from his pocket.
"Whoa! That's gonna kill me if it ricochets off the wrong angle!" He exclaims worriedly. His fear fades as Douglas aims straight down.
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna aim the gun upward." He says. Angel plugs his ears with his two upper hands and closes his eyes as the loud pistol fires beneath them. It's so loud and quick that neither boy hears it land floors below. As Angel removes his hands from his head, he shivers a little.
"If that didn't work, we're screwed. I'm starting to get tired." He says as his arms around Douglas start to shake softly. Thankfully, someone opens the second door for them.
"What was that?!" The person shouts as the door is pried open. Douglas and Angel instantly recognize a red goat demon with light fur.
"Razzle?" Douglas asks as he's greeted with a bit of a frown from him. Angel quickly steps out onto the floor and sets Douglas on his feet.
"You didn't see anything, got it?" He asks as he stands tall over the guard. Razzle holds his hand out softly.
"Please Angel, I'm not going to tell anyone, I promise." He clarifies. Douglas gives him a soft gloom.
"Please tell me you told Charlie my alibi." He says, getting a facepalm from the light goat.
"I'm really sorry Douglas, but Charlie isn't choosing to believe me or Dazzle." He says shamefully. "Seviathan is telling her he guarantees you're the villain and she's not swaying her opinion at all." Angel makes four fists.
"That submerged sack of shit is going to get it. I'm gonna go fuck up his face right now!" He says as he steps forward. Douglas quickly leans one arm over his shoulder before he leaves.
"Wait, Angel. If you do that, Charlie will only be angry at you too." The sexual spider sighs deeply as he turns back to his best friend.
"Douglas, I understand you want me to be merciful, but he's a manipulative douchebag who needs to be taught a serious lesson!" He then looks at Razzle. "Do you think Douglas threw Vaggie over the hotel?!" Razzle's eyes widen a little.
"What?! I never said that!" He defends as Angel facepalms with two hands.
"Well, that's what Seviathan is telling everyone! He's trying to vilify Douglas at any cost no matter how true or false the circumstances are!" Douglas looks away.
"That doesn't matter right now Angel." He then softly glances back at them. "Tomorrow I either kill Alastor and leave Hell forever or die trying. So no matter what people think of me now isn't going to mean anything this time tomorrow." Angel pauses for several seconds before glooming.
"So… this is the last time I'll ever get to see you?" He asks as Douglas nods softly.
"I'm afraid so. Unless you make it to Heaven before an unlucky future cleans." Razzle glooms and turns away.
"That's not the case for me though. I'll never be able to leave Hell." He then faces him again. "But I'm going to miss you as well." Douglas sighs lightly and pats him on the shoulder.
"It's alright Razzle. I'm going to be in a better place. But for you, the better place is with Charlie, and she won't be coming my way either." A tear comes to the goat's eyes as he hears these words. He leans forward and hugs Douglas around his stomach.
"Well then, take care." He says in a soft voice. Douglas smiles lightly and gives him a promising look as he lightly hugs him back. Angel can't help but smirk humbly as he witnesses this.
"Don't worry, I will. And please continue to take care of Charlie for me." He then glares firmly. "And don't let Seviathan do anything sinister to her. Got it?" The goat demon glares and nods.
"That's a request I promise to fulfill." He then ends the hug and faces the stairs. "Well, I must return to my duties now. Goodbye worthy warrior." Both of them watch as Razzle walks back to the first floor. In the meantime, Angel takes Douglas's hand and starts to walk him up the staircase.
"Don't worry about him. He'll get over you fairly quickly." He says reassuringly. Douglas breathes a bit heavily as he walks up, showing signs of weakness from the Vox battle. After a few flights of stairs, Angel puts a card key in one of the doors. "Okay, we're here." As soon as the door opens, they spot the darker goat inside, petting the snake.
"You're alive!" Dazzle exclaims with surprise in his eyes. Eden slithers to the door and wraps herself around Douglas's leg in an embracing manner. Douglas chuckles softly as this happens.
"It would appear so. No amount of television will ever be too much for a warrior of my willpower." He says as Angel guides him onto his bed. Eden snuggles up to his neck as he lays down and Dazzle looks over him.
"Dear lord, what did that menace do to you?" The darker goat asks with a sad gloom. Angel makes a fist.
"I know! If I were there and had a holy weapon, I'd insert it in the drive closest to his asshole!" He exclaims angrily. Douglas waves his hand out lightly.
"Don't worry about it. He's already dead and I made sure he suffered." He says, grabbing the edges of the bed and losing himself in the comfort of the mattress. Angel faces Dazzle with a serious look.
"Whatever you do, please don't tell Charlie that he's here." He requests. "Douglas needs one more night here before his fight with Alastor." The young warrior sighs deeply as Dazzle puts a hand to his shoulder.
"Worthy knight, it pains me to see you in this state of agony." He says sympathetically. "For I know of your purity and believe in you. I will continue to believe in you as you do your final fight against the final overlord." Suddenly, the holy soldier pulls him in. "Whoa!" Douglas embraces the fluffy servant warmly.
"You're much too kind Dazzle. I'm gonna miss you when I leave this place for good." Dazzle sighs softly and then wraps his arms around him as well.
"It's a mutual feeling your God intended for us all to feel from time to time. I wish you safe travels to Heaven when you're done regardless of which one of you dies." Douglas hugs him for a few seconds and then lets him go.
"I'll never forget that. I came to Hell wanting to stay away from all others under the thought that they'd all want to kill me. But I've been pleasantly surprised with how many friends I've made along the way." He then pauses and begins to tear up lightly. "And heartbroken over the fact that about half of them died." Angel glooms lightly and pats his shoulder while Eden rests her head on his chest.
"Buddy, we've all suffered tragic losses in the past week. But all that really matters is it'll all be over this time tomorrow night." Dazzle nods in agreement.
"I sure hope so." He says, turning towards the door. "I must return to my princess now, but you have my prayers Douglas." He remarks genuinely. The young warrior gives him a thumbs-up as he walks out of the room and closes the door. Then the sexual spider faces him.
"Well Douglas, you look comfortable in that bed, so I'll leave you be." He says, rolling out a small blanket on the floor. Douglas rolls over to get a glimpse of it.
"What are you doing?" He asks, raising an eyebrow. "This is your room and you're kind enough to let me stay here. Why should you sleep on the floor?" Angel gives him an innocent smirk.
"Well, because you're a young handsome lad who needs to recover from an injury." He then points a finger to himself. "I'm a creepy pervert who really shouldn't share a bed with anyone." Douglas gasps lightly under his breath.
"Who told you that? Was it Valentino?" He asks with an annoyed look in his eyes. The sexual spider shakes his head.
"No, not exactly him. But just about every other man I've slept with since I entered Hell." He remarks. "Valentino told me I needed to share a bed with someone, or nobody would ever get to take pleasure in my hotness." He then frowns in annoyance. "But I now know he only said that to manipulate me." He states while making a fist. Douglas rolls his eyes.
"Valentino will never sleep with anyone else again. And he's gonna have a painful time masturbating in the void after the marks I left on him." He says, taking the Heaven's Glocks out of his pockets and setting them down on the table next to the bed, along with his list. He then turns back to Angel. "But that doesn't change anything. You're a lot more than some creep. You're a pure-hearted guy who made a few bad decisions while living and now you want to redeem those sins." Angel's gloom fades into a nervous smile.
"Do you really think that? You're not just trying to be nice?" He asks. Douglas gives him a light thumbs up.
"Of course dude. You risked your life yesterday to make sure Stolas wouldn't execute me. And now you're letting me rest here because you don't want Alastor to either." He then looks away for a second. "In fact, without you, I wouldn't have even gotten in here. I hardly have the strength to move right now, so teleporting wouldn't have proven me much success." Angel raises an eyebrow curiously.
"How much effort does teleportation take?" He asks. Douglas sighs deeply.
"If you have a really strong will, you can actually teleport others with you." He states, before glooming largely. "But unfortunately, I haven't mastered that. And that's why Vaggie isn't here with us now." Angel shakes his head shamefully.
"I know what you mean. But you shouldn't blame yourself for that. You didn't kill her, did you?" Douglas turns to him, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"No. But I didn't save her either!" He exclaims. Eden slithers up his face and attempts to dry his tears, hissing sadly.
"Did you try to though?" The sexual spider asks.
"I held on as long as I could! But nobody came to my assistance when I needed their help!" Just as he tears up some more, Angel comes closer and sits on the bed beside him.
"Then you did nothing wrong. Just trying to save her makes you a hero." He says happily. "And by the way, you saved those two imps from an eternity in the void. Aren't you proud of that?" Douglas sniffles softly and nods.
"Yeah. I'm glad I could help keep them together." His gloom remains on his face though. "But I also originally killed them, so it's not like I did more than undo a couple of sins." He continues to cry quietly before Angel remembers something.
"What about that lost little boy you brought to the holy pond?" Douglas's tears stop. "Did you originally kill him too?" The holy soldier shakes his head.
"No. He was an innocent boy that strived to save lives before being banished from Heaven." He sniffles a bit. "I sure hope Augustus forgives him." Angel continues to smile.
"Listen buddy, that strong old man came to your side when we were largely outnumbered. Do you really think he wouldn't forgive a little boy who made some simple mistakes?" Douglas pauses for a moment.
"Well… you have a point. Augustus doesn't like sending people to Hell." He admits. "But that doesn't change the fact that I still failed several people down here." Angel frowns and shakes his head.
"You didn't fail anyone. You avenged everyone who died because of someone else." He states, getting an abrupt chuckle from Douglas.
"Not everyone. If that were true, you wouldn't have needed to sneak me past Charlie." He says in self-doubt. Eden continues to softly embrace his cheek as Angel gives him a serious frown.
"Just be honest with me Douglas, did you kill Lilith and Lucifer?" Douglas stops crying and frowns back at him.
"I don't want to talk about it. For the life of me, I can't say there's anyone to blame for their deaths except for me." Angel glooms and looks down.
"So you won't tell me who did it? Does that mean it was you?" Eden shakes her head softly at Douglas, but he makes a fist.
"Yes. Let's just say it was for the sake of simplicity." He points a finger to himself. "I'm the motherfucker who made Charlie an orphan." The sexual spider shrugs softly.
"If that's the truth, who am I to doubt you. I trust you more than I've been able to trust anyone since Cherri died." Douglas's frown fades. "I just hope you know you're not a bad guy for the things you've been told to do." Douglas sighs deeply.
"And you're not a creep for all the things Valentino made you do." He then softly pats the bed. "Please Angel, will you sleep with me?" Angel pauses and softly lifts the covers.
"Are you sure this won't be awkward to you? I tend to grab around a little in my sleep." Douglas nods peacefully.
"It's alright Angel. I haven't shared a room with a single person since the day my family was killed." He wipes his tears and looks up at him. "Maybe now I'll actually fall asleep feeling safe and secure." Angel's nervous smile becomes confident as he slides his long legs under the blanket and lies in front of Douglas.
"You know pal, you really are a genuine guy. I also hope you enjoy Heaven when you're done tomorrow and hope someday I'll see you again there." Eden slithers off of Douglas and pulls the lamp string with her mouth, shutting off the light.
"Maybe you will. All we can do between now and then is pray." He says, yawning a bit. "Anyways, goodnight Angel." Angel smiles proudly for a few seconds before rolling over to face the other way.
"Goodnight Douglas. Sweet dreams." Both boys fall asleep moments after while Eden rests in her cage.
Outside of the Magne Palace: 11:58 PM
Alastor stares up at the large mansion with his usual confident smile. While the street has busy traffic behind him, the state of the palace looks otherwise blank. Normally Lilith and Lucifer would be performing late-night shows at this time, but as of now, the parking lot is empty. The radio demon continues to stare at the beautiful building as a large wave of satisfaction proceeds to go through his body.
"Such a beautiful place to live." He says to himself. "To think I could've ruled Hell and performed for so many." Then his smirk becomes a bit sinister. "Some people have all the luck. Friends, family, money, and a lover who will fight to the death for them." He then turns his head a bit with envy in his eyes. "And some people have none of that. Leaving them to commit murder for the sake of having a body to feast on because the greed in the world overtakes so many." He monologues to himself. "To think so many people who've attained such blessings after death lost all of that to an innocent boy who had none of that shows a lot about human nature." His smile becomes evil. "Some people really don't change, and with less and less people trying to better themselves as time goes on, it's only a matter of time before another Armageddon only shortly after the current one ends." He then looks over and faces the clock tower which is now freshly abandoned.
*DING! DING! DING! DING!* Alastor stares with a large smile as the clock goes off twelve times, signaling the town that it's midnight. He stares at his staff and watches as the eyeball looks up to him. Then he waits the sound out until the echo of the final ding fades away into silence. His dark shadow alter ego emitting on the palace wall behind him.
"The time is coming Douglas." He begins. "The time for two of misfortune's fools to unleash their final gambits. Will all the blessings the lord has given to you be enough to topple the strongest growing overlord in Hell?" His hand emits a dark aura and his voice becomes very staticky. "Or will the feeling of despair consume you the way it has consumed me?" There is a pause after that sentence ends, and his voice tones back down. "Only time will tell. And this time tomorrow, only one of the two unfortunate souls will remain in existence. Only one of us will sleep peacefully in a rich mansion tomorrow night and the other will sleep in a coffin." He takes a step forward and faces the direction of the distant hotel. "My moment of triumph approaches dear Douglas! And so does yours!" He slams his staff on the ground as lightning starts to strike around him. "Who shall seal the other's fate forever?! Nobody can change the past, but only you can decide the future!" He lifts his staff up high as a large red glowing circle emits from his feet. "COME TO ME WITH AN ANSWER, MY FRIEND FROM THE OTHER SIDE! ENTERTAINMENT AWAITS US BOTH, AND FAILURE AWAITS ONE!"
Author's note: I realize now the story may be a little longer than I originally predicted. But as you can definitely see, the end is nearing. I feel like a slacker since it's almost been two years since I've started and only now am I reaching the fourth quarter. None of my other fanfics exceed 23 chapters, so this one is going to be the biggest one I've ever written! And I can't thank you all enough for reading it!
Anyways, Happy 2 Year Anniversary Hazbin Hotel! And everyone have a great day!
