Chapter 4, enjoy!
As Georgie and Ellie were preparing for bed the next night, Georgie was startled when her phone began ringing on her nightstand. She hurried to her phone, hoping it wouldn't wake the already snoozing Ellie.
She picked up her phone and saw "Mom," flashing across the screen. She pressed the green accept button and slipped out of the room so that she didn't wake Ellie.
"Hey mom!" Georgie greeted her mother on the phone.
"Hi sweetie! How is the camp going so far?" Lou replied.
"Really good!" Georgie responded as she made her way down to the common area.
"I'm glad. Tell me about it, have you made friends? Learned a lot?" Lou began quizzing her. Georgie settled on couch in the common area before answering her mom's burning questions.
"I feel like I've learned a lot so far. We've been having small group lessons, one-on-one training with experts, and then all of us join together to do a lesson," She replied. "And friends, I've made a few. My roommate is from Florida and she introduced me to a few of her friends she shows with."
"Is she nice, are they nice?"
"Yeah, they're all three really nice." Sure she was talking about all three of them, but when she answered she was primarily thinking of Quinn and his constant acts of kindness. "We all rode together the other day when it was our independent work day."
"That's great, I'm glad you've made some friends. We all miss you here."
"I miss you guys too," Georgie replied. "Can you tell everyone I said hi?"
"I will do that. It's probably getting late there so I will let you go. Bye, I love you."
"Bye mom, love you too," Georgie replied before hanging up the phone, now feeling slightly homesick. She expected quiet when she hung up the phone, but the click of computer keys typing was present in the desolate room.
Georgie looked to her left to see the glow from a laptop. She got up from her seat and ventured towards the mysterious computer user. When she approached him, she found that it was none other than Quinn.
"Whatcha doing?" She asked. He whipped his head around, startled, but relaxed when he saw it was just Georgie. He had his ear buds in, so he must not have heard her on the phone.
"Finishing up a paper for school," He replied, removing his earbuds. "Unfortunately I've got finals this week, but I'm a senior, so I've only got a few classes."
"Senior in high school?"
"No, uh college actually," He answered with an awkward chuckle.
"Oh," She replied, stunned. "Wait, I thought this camp was for youth riders? If you're a senior in college-"
"I'm 21, still categorized as a young rider." The confusion was visible on her face as she attempted to do the math. "I graduated high school when I was 17. I was a very young pre-Ker."
"Oh."
"Yeah," He replied, suddenly feeling very awkward.
"I just thought you were closer to my age."
"And you're?"
"18, I graduate high school this spring."
"We're not that far apart."
"Yeah, we really aren't. Just around two and a half years. I think it's just the four year grade gap that is throwing me off."
"You can think my dad for that, he insisted on sending me to school a month after I turned four so he only had to pay the nanny half a day. So, I turned 18 just a month before I went to college." Quinn looked down at his phone and grumbled. "They are blowing up the stupid snapchat group chat and I'm not getting anywhere on this paper. Wait, I should add you to the group chat, it's got a hand full of us from North America."
"You just called it stupid, but you want to add me?" Georgie asked with a laugh.
"It's just that I'm trying to work and they keep sending messages in it. Here, you can add yourself in it. Ellie and a girl from Kentucky that Blaine met are in it, so it's not like it'd be all guys," He stated, handing her his phone to type her username into the search bar. After contemplating the idea, she finally decided to go ahead and add herself to the group chat. She typed her snapchat username into the search bar and pressed the "add to group chat" button. While she was on the app, she added herself to his friends.
Moments later, she got a notification on her own phone that told her she had been added to the "Show Jumpers" group, and that Quinn McGregor had added her.
"I added myself, if you don't mind."
"That's fine," He laughed.
"Wait...? That was your way of getting my snap, wasn't it?" She asked through her laughter.
"No, I swear it wasn't!" He defended himself. "I swear!"
"I believe you, I'm just teasing you," She teased. "I'll let you get back to writing your paper," She told him after looking back to his computer.
"You don't have to go, it's fine."
"What's your major? My mom has been all over me to decide."
"Business Management with a minor in Finance, that way I can work with my dad at our equestrian center."
"Magnolia Glades?" She asked, reading the logo on his fleece jacket.
"Yeah."
"Well, I'm going to bed. Good luck on that paper."
"Thanks," He laughed as he watched her disappear up the stairs.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! I've got some exciting ideas for the next few chapters! I decided to throw in social media, one because they are in their late teens/early twenties and two it plays into the next chapter ;)
