The sensations of fresh air and grass under his back slowly wake him up but he refused to open his eyes, he was just too tired, but a soft touch on his forehead finally made him open his eyes only to meet a pair of brown eyes and a long head of hair as the owner shown a soft smile while removing the hair from her face to reveal an mature women on her maybe 26.
"Hey, you woke up sleepy head, I was worried that I would have to carry back inside myself you know?" She chuckled before leaning down to kiss him, after this he took a second to sit down and look around, finding himself on what seems to be a farm and there were even some cows on the same field Michiru and himself were resting.
"What?...Michiru, is that really you?" He was confused and disoriented but deep inside, he was asking himself if everything so far was just a dream, after all, he could feel her touch and her intoxicating scent with his nose. the woman bowing her head once again chuckled before holding his head, guiding him to lay once more on his lap which he just realized was the place where he was sleeping. "Of course it's me dummy, you had a nightmare or something? It's the only reason I can think of for you to don't recognize your own wife."
After these words she showed her right hand where a beautiful silver ring made his breath stop, that ring had belonged to someone many many years before and he was sure he buried her with it. But now it was in Michiru's hand. "Y-yeah something like that, it was so unreal or more likely, it felt so real that...i doubt it was a dream at all." he finally explained, holding the hand that was now resting on his left shoulder, the touch and warmth was there and it calmed him down. Both of them remained silent as before, only the wind and the sound made by the cows could be heard till he broke the silence with a question.
"How long has it been?" Fear on his voice, fear that only another immortal could understand.
"Since I confessed to you? Since we got married? Or since you went to sleep?" She joked playfully, she had a talent to annoy him but this made him release a deep breath which he didn't realize was holding on his lungs. "I guess any of them are fine for now."
"Then, we have been married for 4 years now, please tell me this is not a trick to see if i forgot our anniversary?" He smirked, after all, he remembered everything he had ever lived for more than hundreds of years. There was barely something he could forget and more if she was involved, but then he noticed a figure standing to his right, near where the house was standing and even if he was only able to see a shadow figure, the voice he heard felt as if it was directed to his brain. "How charming, so this is how much nirvasyl meant for you? A woman and a farm? You fell so low."
Then the field slowly begins to set on fire starting by the house and its surroundings, taking the life of the animals nearby, forcing him to jump on his feet afraid of the fire. "Michiru, we have to go now! Come on let's just ..." But as he turned around to his wife, the only thing there was a corpse in an advanced state of decomposition staring at him with his one eye left. "You said that you love me and yet you let me die and rot with all the others!"
"NO!" He woke up yelling once more, his arm was extended trying to reach the figure but all he could see was the ceiling and his hand, covered on blood that made him sit straight which was a mistake, as he realice by the pain on his chest, the place from where all the blood was coming as there was claws marks that he was sure was his own. Slowly he turned back into his human form, walking to the bathroom to clean the injured which for his surprise, wasn't healing as it should, so he got some bandages to cover the marks and got some clean clothes before walking to the rooftop noticing it was again the middle of the night.
"These nightmares are becoming something really annoying." He mumble before close his eyes, relaying on his strong nose to take his mind away from that memory, the animals, plants, the fresh dew on them, the food on those stores that were still open and of course, the scents of the citicents that shown him the lives of those nearby. But then, another scent sent his brain into alert mode since he knew this one from recent days, a salty scent and before he could realice anything, he turned around morphing into his wolf form. '¡Michiru, michiru, MICHIRU!' That was all his mind could make of the chaos within him, but once he reached the window he saw her laying on the bed crying, but she was unharm. He almost slapped himself for the reaction when he only felt a salty scent and not the usual metallic one that comes with the blood.
Tho, seen her like this on her human form and crying, she seemed so fragile once more and he couldn't help but to slowly get into the room throw the window, doing his best to be as quiet as possible which was weird for him since usually he didn't care nor needed to do this, yet again this was an odd scenario anyone would picture him. Onces he reached the bed and took a small space to sit, he stared at the girl and slowly cleaned the tears on his face, the fresh memory of her with long hair and the ring came to his mind. 'Was that just a dream….or again….that's what I desire?...'
"You are a curse for this old heart tanuki." He joked softly before taking the liberty of removing the hair covering part of the eyes on the girl, the fact that she was no longer staying all the time on her tanuki form in some way made him happy for he found himself attracted to see her like this more and more since what happened in his studio. But seen like this also remind him something, since he came back to life he took up himself the title of protector of the beastmen so many years ago, despising humans and trying to stay far away from them but he knew better now, after meeting Michiru he realize that he had lost his own humanity and even if this word left a bitter taste on his mouth it was the truth. He then remembered when he lost his sanity with the nirvasyl sindrome and the girl went straight to stop him, bring him back even when he was just a mindless beast and she was injured but then, the more recent memory when he once more lost his sense but this time for seen her injured once more and then how their interactions became more intimate but never forced or annoying.
No, there was a certain connection between them, he knew it before and now he knew it more, he surely loved her voice, her scent, her eyes, her hair but more important, he loved the light she carried to wherever she went.
'Maybe that light you see, its her soul.' This time he just ignored the voice, Michiru had been smiling for some time now since he sat on the bed. 'Yeah, I bet it is that or maybe, her love for everyone.'
Shirou did not tried to found the owner of the voices, but what he did was remember where he thought was the first time he heard them, Nirasyl, usually when those memories came to his mind it made him feel miserably and hurt, but right now watching the girl sleeping, he could remember how the life was there before all the chaos. It was a town where beastmen used their strength and unique skills to rice vegetables, fruits, flowers and raise cows for milk. The Ogami family had a unique skill to help them to grow strong and their milk was high quality and it was a tradition to make cheese with it once a month to celebrate with everyone since not everyone knew how to do it and even some humans from all countries traveled to learn their secrets and only a few got it with the condition of never teach others to do it. They were allowed to sell it and they were so thankful to them that on each day where the celebration took place, there were more than one type of cheese on the tables.
"But that is in the past now….humans made sure of that…" The rage and hate begin to build up on his chest, maybe as he thought the one that came back from death wasn't the Shirou Ogami that was killed, he was someone else. "Maybe...just maybe….that young dreamer that die….stayed dead and I…" He stared at his hands or at least, the ones he thought were his.
"Maybe I'm just….a reanimated body without a soul…" He stared at the sleeping girl and couldn't help but to lean on and place a small kiss on her forehead before returning to his own room. "But if she is here….i don't need to worry about that." A smile crossed his face, leaning down on his couch to sleep what he could for the rest of the night. The next day he was woken up by a sweet scent, slowly he sat down at the time his back and shoulders returned to their correct place with a loud crack. It was odd, till now sleeping on the couch never seemed to bother him but recently it felt as if he needed a real bed or else his body would turn on him. After washing his face he walked to the lower floor where Michiru was once more cooking breakfast in her human form.
"Well this is a surprise, I was sure that a tanuki lives here, not a kiddo." He said walking to her, curious to what she was cooking, but she just laughed softly without turning to see him. "God, are all your jokes so lame? You really are old." Shirou couldn't help but to smile a bit more while raising an eyebrow.
"Oh? So my jokes are lame? Well, I don't remember you telling a joke ever since we met." He crossed his arms, looking at her from behind, hearing an annoyed pout. "What about that time I told you about your animal instincts?"
"Sure and I have to believe it was a good joke at all? If i recall correctly i didn't laugh at all or even rose." This made the girl in front of him growl playfully, a sound that was even funnier to the wolf since her human vocal cords couldn't really do the correct sound, but both knew it wasn't necessary to be accurate. "Anyway, i think i am feeling a bit more comfortable using this form again, you know how i relied too much on the beast strength. But if i wanna really get strong i need to train like this you know?"
'Sure, but if you knew what seeing you that way causes me.' Shirou thought to himself before standing next to her, looking at the waffles she was making, they had some apple and chocolate chips on the mixture. "You know, when cooking you really look more mature than you are."
Both him and Michiru opened their eyes as their faces turned bright red, avoiding the inquisitive eyes that were now focused on him. But he cleared his throat before pointing to the burning waffle that was one step before turning into coal. "Grr, just sit and stop distracting me! Or else!"
She demanded, threatening him with the spatula on her right hand while holding the pan on the other, Shirou was more concerned about the pan but he played along by raising his arms and taking a seat to face her while Michiru continued cooking. "It's a bit odd for you to cook so often, not that i'm complaining but, why the sudden change?" The question made the cheeks of the girl turn bright red and she was thankful of the fact that he couldn't tell on her human form or so she thought.
"Let's say since we are working together, I want to try and demonstrate I can be reliable. Not only in fights." She explained putting some waffles for the wolf, offering mapple for them. "Only that, nothing weird about it."
"Yes sure, nothing weird or mysterious when you are involved at all." He smirked and moved his head to one side so a flying waffle wouldn't hit his face. "stop wasting food, lets eat or else we will be late.'' Slowly he picked the waffle from the floor and stared at it before beginning to eat it to the waffe to the horror of the girl. "Hey don't do that! It was on the floor!"
Shirou only shrugged and continued to eat it before looking at her, she was stoned but the look on his eyes made her blush a bit once more before he could speak. "It's something you made for me, so I won't let it go to waste that easy."
Speechless she sits across the table to face him and both begin to eat to the pleasure of the girl who loved to see him eat anything she cooked since it meant the world for her and since he seemed to enjoy it, it was worth everything. Some beacon and coffee, he cleared his throat and looked at her. "I heard you squirm last night, did you had nightmares again?"
"Is not like, just nightmares shirou, sometimes they feel surreal to be honest. But yes, i had a nightmare last night, wanna hear about what it was?" Knowing what a nightmare could be, he was about to retract his words but before forming anything, Michiru was already walking to his side before sit and lay on his shoulder to what his tail appeared and began to wave like a puppy. "I'm not sure where i am but it feels like a forest, a really thick and dark forest where i am alone and i begin to run, escape, trying to get away from something i can't see but its there."
Trees thick enough to be twice the size of an elephant with root covering the ground, it seemed as if it was covered by snakes and it was hard to walk without falling down, but there was a girl running through the forest and her clothes were ripping with the branches at the time she tried to catch her breath, looking back at something moving on the shadows.
Her whole body was numb but yet she forced it to run as fast as she could, her powers were not working and even if she was athletic there was no way her human legs could overrun that thing. She would turn her head to catch a glim glance of what was chasing her but it was useless, the darkness surrounded the creature. "Come on come on, how big is this place?" She yelled hiding behind a tree after getting tired, looking carefully for her prosecutor but it was nowhere to be seen.
This let her take a moment to calm down, she was sure it was a dream since this was not the first time she found on a situation like this but that thing was getting closer and closer with each time. Since it was a dream she was sure it wouldn't hurt her but there was something deep inside her telling her to never let it catch her as if an instinct was warning her. Shirou who was hearing in silence leaned his head on hers to comfort her.
"So it is a recurrent dream? How often has this happened before?" She took a moment to answer before speaking with a low voice.
"Since…you became a beast thanks to the nirvasyl sindrome…B-BUT! Don't get me wrong, it's not because I fear you, it's just…its not you who chase me…" There was a mix of surprise and sadness on his face because she mentioned something that made him feel horrible, but he chose to believe her. "Then, if it's not me, what is?"
"I'm not sure….but it's getting faster, anyway, let me continue." She cleared her throat, after walking a bit and checking her body she noticed that small wounds were made to her skin by the branches and small drops of blood were running down the scratches, she has no energy left to run anymore but she kept moving in hope of finding the end of the endless trees but it seemed to be not such thing and then a loud and powerful howl was heard. "Oh dear please no…"
The beast was a few inches from her face and it begin to walk to close the distance between them, the heart of the tanuki was pounding on her chest and the creature seemed to notice this since it lowered its head at the height of the sound and it made Michiru think it was gonna rip her chest open to take it out, this until a blinding light appeared and forced the creature to back up. There was a wolf in front of Michiru, to be more accurate it was Ginrou who stood between them, staring down at the creature showing him bigger and the persecutor knew it, slowly stepping back. Michiru felt relief at the sight of the wolf but she noticed it was a little different of the ginrou she knew, this one was a lot bigger and the wings on its shoulders were missing and instead his fur ressemble a pillar of smoke. "You will be safe from that."
Was all he spoke before howl strong enough to make her head hurt a bit, covering her ears watching how the moonlight began to pierce the branches forcing the creature to disappear as mist and when Ginrou turned to her, she woke up. "It was odd 'cause…I felt you were there with me but, ginrou was different as if it wasn't YOU actually."
She explained as she continued playing with his hand and he slowly closed it to hold her hand, a wave of pride filled his chest, knowing that even in her dreams he kept her safe, but the fact that she kept telling that Ginrou was different bugged her a bit but he pushed that aside for now. "Well, at least you are safe now, you wont get hurt as long as i am here…not anymore."
That made her blush as he stared at his eyes, she pressed her lips close but her body moved a bit closer to his, the warmness of her skin made him blush but his head moved a bit to hers, their lips once more touch each other but this time none of them push the other away, they just stayed there with their eyes close but not fully kissing each other. They felt heat rising on their bodies and shirou was now holding her by the hips and there was a moment where he felt a howl inside his mind, wanting, begging him to take her as his mate but he moved a bit back. "I-it's getting late, we…should get going"
There was electricity when he removed his arms from her body and she stared at him in her tanuki form, with the ears down like a sad puppy and she with a low voice that melted his brain told him that she would go alone since she had to go and talk to tachiki to explain everything. "I have to be responsible for my actions, after all I am an adult woman" She explained before wink at him and kiss the corner of his lips and run up only to slam the door behind her, leaving a confused yet happy wolf behind. With that he began to walk towards the station he would find a certain mink who, curious by the lack of a tanuki girl, asked about her favorite client. This annoyed him, remembering all those times the girl went into trouble thanks to the 'help' of this mink and he was about to yell at her to mind her business but then he stopped and had an idea.
"She has other things to do right now, but come to think of, i might have a job for you, mink" He tried to dont sound angry but the last part had a bit of poison, not that Marie really care.
"Oh? The great and powerful Ginrou has an errand for the little old me?" She asked, teasing Shirou, he looked away even more annoyed by the fact that she knew his identity but was thankful that she had kept it a secret. "What is that job about?"
"As you probably know already, a few beastman were attacked on the docks and it's something really serious this time. The police are working with the family to find information about this but we haven't really found anything. I would like you to look around and see if you can find something. But be careful, there is someone informing the humans behind this."
"Hoh? What tells you that I am not the one selling the information?" She stared at him with a blank expression that was returned to her before the wolf smirked gently. "I know that you wouldn't, because you actually care about her and you know i wouldn't stop until i find and kill you."
The mink hugged herself, making fun of the wolf while shivering, saying that she would never stand a chance against the silver wolf before leaving, assuring him that she would text him if anything happened. With that solve he continued his way to the station and once there he noticed Gabu and he showed his hand as a way to say hi to what the young lieutenant didn't knew how to answer beyond a weird smile. Then both went to see Tachiki who was reading some papers from the nyrvasil disaster caused by alan. "Ah, Ogami, Yoshida, what brought you guys here so early?"
"Sir, I wanted to report what I found last night after I went to the silvasta labs. My intention was to seek for any information of the chemicals that were used to clean the crime scene to stop Ogami from helping us but what i found was something else. The computers inside have no access to other locations' inventory, meaning that if someone else is making these movements, they are trying to blind us at all cost." Tachiki eyes closed for a moment as he already thought on this possibility but the one that was without words was Shirou itself, but not because the impresion, but for the anger building up inside him. "ALAN! That bastard even if he told us he would stay out of our sight he keeps messing with us."
"Ogami! Relax, we know he is involved and since we know his secret we can use it to our favor." Explained the old dog trying to calm the wolf but a nervous Gaby cleared his throat to have their attention.
"About that…i actually kept contact with Alan since he left the city. I had kept an eye on him to see if anything happened and he was not aware of any of what was happening." Both Shirou and Tachiki stared at him in disbelief, Tachiki had to pull his lieutenant away to avoid the fist of the wolf that broke the wall in rage, staring daggers at the younger one. "YOU!"
"O-ogami please, i don't trust him, that's why i kept an eye on him!"
"You kept in contact with that traitor anyway! He almost destroyed the city! He almost killed!..." He stopped, yes, Alan tried to kill her but he himself almost succeeded with that and Gabu had been a reliable officer. "Sorry…I still don't like to talk about him."
To the surprise of Tachiki, shirou offered a hand to help Gabu stand up. "From what I have learned, he is conflicted and sees a therapist, he isn't sure about his view of the world anymore. It seems that his encounter with the silver wolf changed his mind."
"I doubt that, but I trust you. Then we can assume he is not the enemy this time."
"If that is correct, then we are back to the beginning, but at least we know it's someone with enough power to manipulate Sylvasta Pharmaceuticals without the former CEO involved. Gabu, tell the officers to be careful while patrolling, we don't know when something else will happen. Shirour, we need to talk about miss Kagemori."
"It's okay boss, she will come today and talk to you as it should, don't worry." With that they left the old man staring at the door, wondering if he was respected at all for this younglings.
By the time Michiru left the co-op the horner were nowhere to be seen but she thought they were still out by some papers like the other day, herself was printing the documents her mother sent and with them was a picture of them two with a cake for her. "Oh mom you are so cheesy, but there is no way i'll send her pictures of Shirou. Never ever."
"¡Michiru!" Aneko was running in her direction with civil clothes to the surprise of the tanuki. "Hey, I'm glad that you will join us today."
"Hello Aneko, yes and i'm sorry for the troubles I caused you. But please tell me why aren't you in uniform?" She asked, looking at her curious.
"Ah! Because I always run a bit before work, how do you think I keep my figure and eat as much as I do? I burn everything." She explained before flexing her arms to show her biceps. "My dad taught me to train and be in form for anything, also it keeps me sexy for the mirror." She winked before laught. As they walked to the station Michiru explained how she was at peace with her mom and the fact that she wanted to meet shirou. "¿Really? She wants to meet him? Oh my, that means that you two are a thing?"
"W-what? N-no we are not we." Their almost kiss from the morning came back to her mind as she brought her fingers to where shirou lips were earlier. "We are just friends, but maybe…..later?" She smiled a bit embarrassed but finally said what she wanted.
"I knew it! You two are getting to that! I always found him really hot to be honest."
"Hooold on, he is MY hot wolf, get your own." Michiru exclaimed pointing to Aneko before both begin to laugh, the tanuki love her times with Nazuna but somehow their friendship never went back to what it was before animacity, but Aneko made her feel calm and with someone she could trust.
"But seriously, you had adapted very well to the city and the beastman thing, I would call you a liar if i didn't know you. It's as if you were born to be one. Ah! We are here, I'll go to the showers and get my uniform. See you later, wolf hunter~" And with that she was gone, before Michiru could go to her cubicle Tachiki called her to his office.
"Did you call me sir?"
"Yes, thanks for coming kagemori. You see, we discussed this before but, we need to be able to trust our officers and for that we need for you to not disappear after every situation you are involved into. I am your superior but I am not capable of keeping elements that don't offer anything." He turned around only to find a folder on his desk. "What is this?"
"It's the papers you asked me for, I contacted my mother and she sent them to me. I had already made the tramit to obtain citizenship. There are a few papers that i wasn't able to get for today but i will before next week. I really want to work here to help others but also to become a better version of me. I love helping people and I won't let you down again. Im sorry" The old police chief gave her a good look before nodding and pick the papers.
"It makes me happy to hear that, I have really high hopes for you. Just please, don't make me fire you. You can go now."
"Thanks! It's my first formal work so I have to adjust."
At her desk she found Aneko and Katsumoto, she was excited because today they wouldn't focus on the drugs since there were no clues. They would look into robberies that included the usual gems thief, but Katsumoto asked her to apply her breaks. "That sounds nice but I will not be coming with you ladies, from this day on, you and aneko are partners until she feels you are ready."
"Wait, what?" She was confused with that affirmation, so she turned to see the other women.
"That's right little girl, from today and till i decide, mommy Aneko has the wheels. So you better prepare because i hate paperwork." This was gonna be a long month certainly.
At Gabu office, Shirou walked in and sat on the chair right in front of the desk. "I need to ask you for a favor, i need you to come with me and check ikki house."
I am back, don't give me up for dead! Goddammit! I swear i have the notes on my little notebook, but with my new work i can't write cause i have no time! But slowly i had been typing as much as i can and here it is chapter 9! Now, to be honest this was gonna be a longer chapter but i feel like i need to give you guys something cause i had read your reviews and it makes me happy that you are enjoying this. Pray for Ginrou that i am able to write chapter 10 next sunday cause i left notes on the book!
