She watched as Coco danced to the music Héctor was playing onstage, making sure to stay close to Coco so she didn't run to him while he was performing. Coco kept breaking out of her grasp, though, weaving through the legs and knees of the gathered audience to get a closer look at her father. The skirt of her purple dress fell to her shoes and she stumbled a bit as she got closer. Imelda wondered if Héctor noticed Coco trying to thrust herself at him or if he was too focused on playing his music. She wiped the sweat from her brow and moved in on Coco again as the girl cheered and jumped excitedly, her yipping mixing with the yells and applause of the audience.

As Imelda scooped Coco up in her arms again, squeezing tighter so Coco couldn't get away, she paused to look at Héctor, playing the guitar that she'd had custom made for him, its glossy white and blue paint reflecting the harsh sunlight. The patterns on his mariachi suit, the same violet color as Coco's clothes, didn't have any sparkles for a change but were still brought to Imelda's attention, and she blushed as she remembered how she'd told him that it would be the perfect thing to wear for the concert today.

Imelda watched as Héctor spun around the stage while playing, his head snapping back when he landed, earning a flash of a disapproving glance from Ernesto, who was also onstage. Again Coco squirmed in Imelda's arms, laughing and pointing at them as Héctor and Ernesto strummed the final high note of the song. The sounds in the air exploded into joyus shouts and appriciative whistles from the audience members. Imelda threw in her own cheer as she watched Héctor and Ernesto bow to the audience.

Then they exited to the left of the stage, the audience still clapping as they left, and Coco once again got herself free from Imelda's hold around her and made a few wobbling steps over to Héctor as he put the strap of his guitar around one shoulder and pushed the guitar behind him. He managed to hold his arms out to Coco just in time, tumbling backwards a bit at her weight. Imelda ran to them as they hit the ground, their laughter echoing in the air. Coco gave Héctor a tight embrace, her arms wrapping around his neck as Imelda pulled her off.

Héctor was still laughing as he got to his feet, wiping the tears from his eyes as he calmed down. He gave both Coco and Imelda a kiss on the cheek, his gaze lingering on Coco as she smiled up at him. Imelda walked away from them and glared at the onlookers behind them as they watched, satisfied as they shrank back under her hard stare. She then turned her gaze on Ernesto, who was frowning and watching Héctor spin Coco around in his arms. She sent Ernesto a sneer and walked closer to Héctor and Coco, stopping just a few feet away from them and watching them from a distance.

Coco leaned in and whispered something in Héctor's ear and he seemed to listen intently. Imelda felt her heart warm and clench at the same time seeing them together. When Coco was done talking, Héctor's laugh touched Imelda's ears in a loving way it never had before. Coco wrapped her arms around Héctor's neck again and he returned her embrace, walking over to Imelda and giving her another kiss as he wrapped one arm around her, meeting her eyes for the briefest second, his own eyes sparkling with his usual adoration that he showed around her.

He asked her if she liked the performance. Imelda nodded and said that of course, she liked it. She'd fallen in love with his music the same time she'd fallen in love with him. Coco giggled and grinned at Imelda in the silence that followed.

Héctor adjusted Coco in his arms and smiled at Imelda in a way that made her blush again, and Imelda didn't know if it was the hot weather or the sudden twinge of love in her heart. Héctor grabbed her hand and squeezed it, his warm touch making her face heat up even more. After a few more moments of staring at each other, and Coco's laughing, Héctor turned in the direction of their house and led the way their, laughing with Coco and singing to her and Imelda the whole way there.
