I do not own the Fallout Series
AN: Yep, these little shits.
Geckos
Geckos are a common annoyance in Post-War America. Geckos are bipedal reptiles known for their bite and their valuable pelts. There are several species of Gecko found throughout the Wasteland, each possessing unique details and abilities that cause them to stand out among their ranks. Despite this, they all share similar traits that identify them as Geckos.
They don't possess eyelids, instead they use their tongues to clean and moisten their eyes. They, like Deathclaws, have a minor healing factor. They're capable of climbing vertical surfaces and can even walk upside down. They can do this because they have miniature hairs on their fingers and toes, called setae. All known species of Geckos are known to possess fins on their heads and have bright amber colored eyes.
Most Geckoes are fond of warm and dry climates, like deserts and canyons. They also live-in family groups of 5-15. Their diet consist mostly of Insects, like Rad-Roaches, Mantises and Bloatflies and some larger species are known to go after Rodents, Canids and even Yao Guai cubs, Bighorner Calves and Deathclaw and Cazador eggs if they think they can get their paws on them.
Variants
Common Gecko
The Common or Blue Gecko is the smallest species, only the size of a human child. Their bite, while painful, isn't particularly dangerous. That is, unless you are poorly armed and there are many of them. 'The Death of 1,000 cuts' as it were. The Common Geckos prefer to eat insects like Radroaches and Bloatflies and will occasionally try to break into henhouses for the hens and their eggs. Most frontier settlements and Tribals use Blue Geckos as a source of food and income, selling their hide to traders or using it to make armor and clothing.
Golden Geckos
Golden Geckos are larger and more dangerous than their Blue cousins, but not to the extent of other species. Goldens have been known to reach 5ft in height and their bites are not only stronger – able to tear through flesh and reach the bone – but their saliva is also poisonous. Their gilded hides are also tougher and even resistant to corrosive irradiated waste material. The Goldens are known to go after Dogs, Coyotes and Bighorner Calves when they get the chance. Golden Gecko hides are far more valuable than the Blue hides due to their durability, color and rarity. Even a couple of pelts can go for hundreds upon hundreds of caps.
Fire Geckos
A far rarer and incredibly dangerous species of Gecko, the Fire Geckos have the most bizarre physiology of any known Gecko species. Like many species of fauna and flora found throughout the Wastes, the Forced Evolutionary Virus is suspected to have a hand in the rapid mutation of some Geckos and that is most apparent with these plum-colored lizards.
Like the Grayditch Fire Ant (see 'Insects' page for more details), the FEV has mutated the Fire Gecko into being able to breathe fire. This, combined with their agility, speed, strong jaws filled with serrated teeth makes them dangerous alone and nightmarishly lethal in numbers.
Fire Geckos are distinguished by their deep purple, flame-retardant hides and the twin rows of spines that line their backs. These hides are known to go up to thousands of caps.
Green Geckos
The rarest, largest and most deadly of any species of Gecko, the Green Geckos are found only in the canyons of Utah, specifically Zion National Park. The size of a fully adult man, the Green Geckos not only possess incredibly strong and massive jaws, but are also capable of spitting globs of toxic saliva at prey. Little is known of these giant reptiles as Zion is incredibly difficult to navigate.
Geckos Trivia
Geckos, like Deathclaws, possess a mild healing factor. Just as the Jackson Chameleons that would become the Deathclaws, Pre-War Geckos used this to escape predators when grabbed by their tails. Their tails would break off and grow back in a few days.
While all Geckos are assumed to be immune to radiation, Golden Geckos are the only species known to explicitly build their nests in highly irradiated areas.
Golden Geckos not only inhabit radioactive locations, but are even known to consume radioactive material.
Some Tribals are known to domesticate Blue Geckos, something that few others are capable of replicating.
AN: Geckos, don't you hate to see em', folks? I'm gonna be taking some time to edit this fic HEAVILY by adding creatures from Fallout Tactics and ONLY Fallout Tactics. I draw the line at Van Buren or concept art, mostly because most of Van Buren ended up becoming New Vegas and concept art gives me even less to work with than what little there already is. Stay safe, folks. - Bones
