Chapter nine: Best wishes from other side.

Part II

It was cold. Very very cold.

Ga Eul gave a shiver shifting in her sleep. Her hands went searching for something warm. There was... something... somewhere... there...

At last her fingers reached the softness... the smoothness of fabric... the squeezable ... blanket.

...

But it was stuck.

Ga Eul whimpered and tugged it to herself. The blanket groaned and pulled it to himself.

What a stubborn blanket?!

Ga Eul gave a curse. She kicked it aside and rolled it into a ball. Her teeth clattered. Her bare feet rubbed on each other–all in an attempt to make any warmth.

It was really really cold—she could feel the icy ness in her breath—and somehow not silent.

There was a faint thud thud thud, that grew louder every second, and a muffled voice that slowly formed into recognizable words.

"Ga Eulah!... Yi Jeong ah!..." Continued the voice.

"Aish... who is it?.." Ga Eul mumbled in her sleep.

'Presumably someone alive...' A much clearer whisper tickled her ears. 'The ghost has given up hours ago... he's probably resided to a corner, peacefully smoking a cigarette...'

Ghost...

Wheels started turning in her sleepy brain. Yes. They were on a case, undercover as the couple who owned that house, trying to attract the spirit who inhabited the premise. Pictures started to form in her vision. There were twirls of greenish mist leaking under the doors, crawling towards her feet.

And it was really really really cold.

"Yi Jeongah! Aish you two, what the heck are you doing?!"

The blanket beside her, groaned, sighed, and made a whole lot of other noises before finally turning upright. It spend a moment of absolute stillness before revealing its face. The eyelids flickered and the eyebrows frowned.

The caller was persistent.

"Ga Eulah!... Yi Jeong ah!.."

And he didn't sound like a ghost.

"MASTER!"

Two pairs of feet jumped onto the ground.

...

...

Within a blink of an eye, Yi Jeong was at the door, sliding it open and allowing Master in.

"What were you doing? I was calling you for hours..." Master—calmly than they had expected—stepped inside.

"You could have always come in and woken us up?.." Yi Jeong shot a dismissive smile as he went a hand through his mess of hair combing it backwards. He was heading to Ga Eul's aid, who was struggling to her feet, trying to hold the pillow in place.

"You two were asleep? But I thought we agreed to stay awake and keep on watch. Together."

Yi Jeong sighed. "Sorry. Yes, but it has been a tiring weekend so far. Hasn't it, Ga Eulyang?" He pulled her to her feet.

'Ooh... but I guses his disappointments are for some other prediction that has gone wrong...' The demon pointed at Master's face, covering his giggles with a clawed hand.

Ga Eul blushed and shot a faint glare at the grinning demon. She straightened back to her feet and adjusted the pillow.

She glanced at the three men: the irritating So Yi Jeong, Master–the birth of curiosity and the now-fully-reformed, useless demon—Baekga. Their team was up and running, bright awake and ready for action.

But that wasn't all. There was a new presence.

Ga Eul looked around. A thin layer of ghost fog carpeted the floorboards, leaving a neat circle at a corner of the dining where Master had been on watch. Green and bluish fog brushed along its perimeter, burning the salt with tiny sparks. The haunted room was dark than ever. Its windows were closed and doors were still open wide. Not a shadow was inside. Not even ghost fog. It's floor boards were clean.

A torch lied on the short rack at its left, beside the lavender vase, facing their room and flickering—as if its (fresh) batteries would fail in no time. There was no ghost in the dining and not a shadow except for themselves in their room. But the smell of alcohol felt stronger and heavier, as it burdened on their shoulders, threatening to crush them beneath.

They were not alone anymore.

All of a sudden, there were the knocks on the walls.

Thud thud thud...

Click clack...

Click...

Yi Jeong checked his wrist watch. 3:45 a.m. He took out his torch and scanned across the room before leading them to the dining. The pencil beam of his torch first switched off and then switched on. So Yi Jeong, who had the best psychic sight of them all, hadn't spotted a ghost as well.

Peril returned to Yi Jeong's face, but calmly boarded under his skin.

"Any updates?" he turned to Master, who cleared his throat.

"There were the knocks on the walls and the temperature has fallen down." He glanced down at his luminous thermometer. "From five degrees, to be precise."

The temperature has indeed dropped low. Ice crystals had begun to form on the intensified cobwebs making them look like delicate lace work decorated with diamonds.

"Ahrasso." Yi Jeong gave a nod and turned around to face them. "Hyung, get the torches ready. Ga Eulyang, find the other packet of salt. We'll need it."

Master cleared his throat. "ughm, But salt?" he interrupted. "We've run out of it. Remember? We've laid a long line all around the house?"

"Yes but we have another packet. Ga Eulyang and I bought one, just the other day, didn't we?" Yi Jeong turned to Ga Eul.

She nodded, but preferred to stay silent.

"We could always use iron. That's more effective than salt." Master continued to protest.

"Yes, but iron burns the spirits."

"So what?"

"Didn't Hyun Bin hyung has told something about not harming the ghost?"

Master went silent.

"Oh crap." He muttered.

'Ooh groceries!... wake me up when they are done...'

Silence gulped the whole hanok.

Ga Eul nudged at Master, who had gone terribly pale. "What really happened to that packet?" She asked in a low voice.

Master cringed and hesitated for a bit. "I... I... kept the essentials and gave the extras to them."

...

Silence....

...

"I knew it!" Yi Jeong raised his voice. "I knew you would end up doing something stupid like that!"

"What did I do wrong? They might need it! She's having a baby, remember?!" Master let out a cry.

"For what exactly_ Aish just shut up!" Yi Jeong leaned on the wall and rubbed his temples trying to calm himself down.

"Biannae!.." Master cried aloud.

Ga Eul kept silent, still trying to process what she had just heard. She couldn't believe it. She had never thought that Master... That Master would_

'_ betray you. Yes. He has.' The demon spoke up. 'And want to know my advice?'

"What?"

'See that pot over there? The one with the lavender?...'

Ga Eul sighed. "Yes. But no. He's still a friend and we can't just kill him." She shot a glare at the big baby still sniffing aloud.

'Ooh... You are no fun. Mark my words... you are going to regret this...' The demon chuckled.

Yi Jeong straightened back to his feet and allowed himself a sigh.

"Aharsso." He said. "Ga Eulyang, I suppose there're some candles somewhere in the cabinet in my room and I think you've got a box of matches with you?"

"Neh." Ga Eul nodded.

"I'll go and find some salt. There supposed to be some in the kitchen." Yi Jeong turned around.

"Hyung could stay here and keep on watch." He added with a smirk. "Oh. And please don't complain when the lights go out."

"Neh! Hwaiting!" Master sniffed aloud and gave a confident nod as they both turned around with their torches, leaving him behind alone, with the flickering light. "Neh. I won't complain... I ... won't... complain..." He repeated to himself.

...

...

...

But he couldn't keep silent.

Being the most vulnerable out of the three of them, (Deaf and blind, psychically. Could only spot the faintest glow of ghost fog) Master was terribly scared of ghosts.

Ghosts, couldn't do much physical harm—he knew—though he had read about some who could throw objects across rooms and manipulate people into killing themselves. In other words, though he hadn't seen any of the dead, he had read enough to be terrified of them. So he kept Ga Eul, constantly updated about the condition of his torch light.

On the other hand, Ga Eul was shoving through Yi Jeong's stuff, as if she was in for robbery. There were three cabinets, one book self, and a cupboard.

'I see... you are in here for revenge...' Whispers stirred in her ears. 'But isn't finding those candles more important?... he told it's in the cabinet...'

"And it's not in here!" Ga Eul cried out, pulling the small drawers one by one.

'That's because it's not a cabinet. It's a mini dressing table, with a folded mirror.'

Ga Eul paused.

"oh. I see."

She stood up, untied the pillow, threw it to a corner and went to the other cabinet.

'I think that's a bad idea...though it may slightly increase your non-existent efficiency... you are confusing him...' The demon continued in his bored tone.

"Who?" Ga Eul muttered going through the drawers.

No. Nothing in that cabinet either. She went to the other.

'The ghost of cour_'

"Found it!" Ga Eul raised the packet of candles triumphantly and turned around.

'And... now for the matches...' Baekga sighed and lazily followed behind the girl.

...

"G-Ga Eulah... the torch went out. Can't you hurry up a bit?" Came Master's quivering voice.

Ga Eul spilled her duffel bag to the floor. "I am hurrying!" She screamed back. "Try shaking it or hitting it on floor!"

"I did!... but it's gone."

Ga Eul sighed, and began tossing her cloths to a side. She had had that box of matches in her duffel bag. She had always had it in there. Why couldn't she find it now?!

'Need help?'

"Is that something to ask?!"

'You put it in the right pocket.' Baekga managed to speak, through a yawn.

"oh. Yes!"

'Opposite to the one with the cookies... so you won't forget.'

"Yes. Yes." Ga Eul nodded, grabbed the little box and ran back to the dinning.

Master was right. The torch had completely gone out and it was only the faint glow from the fog that illuminated the room.

She paused abruptly.

Thud thud thud

Click clack

Click...

There came the sounds again.

"G-Ga Eul ah? I-Is that you?" Master sat in his little salt circle, in front of the haunted room. (In second thoughts, they should have chosen a better place for him.) His knees were on his chest with other light and fear reflecting on his little spectacles.

Ga Eul felt pity for him. "I am here." she replied as calmly as possible, and went to his side. The ghost fog sprung up in her every step as if it was mud water in a puddle. The sounds came back,

Thud thud thud

Click clack

Click...

As if in repentance, like a tape stuck in a Walkman. Crystallized ice made patterns on the short table and sharp spikes grew long on its edges.

Master gave a shiver, just as she stepped in his protective circle.

"S-Something blows on my neck. Every time, the sounds would come..."

Ga Eul gave a reassuring smile. "It's probably just the wind." She said holding out a candle as she took out a match. Hairs started to rise on the back of her neck as she struck it against the wall.

With a breath of air, the flame went out.

She ignited another, and another.

But them all went out.

Aish...

A faint whisper tickled her ears. It was a sigh. "Baekga?" Ga Eul called out. "Was it you?"

'Ani... I am just here, enjoying the show...' The translucent figure raised a hand, leaning on the wall as casually as ever.

Ga Eul rolled her eyes and concentrated on the other voice.

"W-Was it him?" Master asked, still in his trembling voice.

Ga Eul shook her head and pulled out another match. She took a deep breath and struck it on the wall.

For an instant there, the whole hanok was silent. The little flame rose up and bright. From the corner of her eye, Ga Eul spotted a face in dark. Leaning close to her ear as if to whisper a secret.

Aish...

It sighed.

Ga Eul turned around. Illuminated by the little orange flame, she saw a paper white face, eyes hollow and dark, mouth gaped and neck fallen to the right, cracked abnormally at the middle.

Before she could scream herself, a cry erupted from behind, putting out the flame and loosening her grip on the box of matches. It was Master who sprung to his feet, screaming out his lungs and unintentionally pushing her out from the circle and into the haunted room.

Ga Eul fell face down, on the newly cleaned floor boards which had the slight smell of salt still lingering to it. She quickly stood up and ran to the door, which shut tight, trapping her inside. She gave a grunt trying to slide them back open, but they were stuck, as if being glued to its frame. Within a click, the pale glow went out. Back in the dinning, the ghost fog disappeared, cutting off whatever light that came to the room.

...

...

...

It was the type of darkness, in which keeping eyes open or closed wouldn't matter anymore. It made no difference. The doors were shut, not a crack of light, not from the windows either—nothing to see. Just black, black, black, everywhere.

Ga Eul sat on floor, her hands clasped around her legs, pressing her knees to her chest. She took short breaths and attempted to take longer ones to calm herself. She had long given up on banging the door. There came no sound from the dining. Master had probably fainted to the ground and Yi Jeong was still at the kitchen, searching for some bloody salt. Her hands trembled. The coldness sucked out her breath.

"Baekga?..." She whispered. "I think you had a point with that pot."

The translucent figure formed in front of her, seated across cross-legged and chin resting on cupped hands. His other light gave out a very pale glow, which didn't do much help.

'You know I've always had a point... you are the one who's dumb enough not to understand...' He bluntly replied.

Ga Eul sighed and buried her head between her knees. "D-Do you... do you know any way out ?" she grasped for a breath. "it's suffocating in here..." and sobbed.

The whole room... was psychically charged. And in darkness, it discharged. Grief, despair and dissatisfaction, battered against her like a strong leash flogging a slave. Silence grew heavier and heavier driving her to hysteria. She felt betrayed and wanted to cry, but felt hopelessly weak to do so. She felt numb—as if her senses were fading away, yet at the same time, they were stinging too much.

Aish! A useless life...

... so worthless to be alive...

...

Thoughts of self-hatred flooded to her mind. Even the time seemed to have stopped.

Thud thud thud...

Click clack...

And

Click...

The sounds came back.

"Th-There's no way out from here? Is there?..." She let out a squeak. A cold drop of tear strolled down her cheek.

Baekga sighed. 'Stop borrowing other's troubles. I mean... literally.' He said in a plain tone. 'The emotions you feel aren't quite yours... Oh and please don't scream! I'll say that on beforehand. It won't help.' He nudged towards the blind wall at his left.

Ga Eul looked up, trying to collect herself and pushing back the strong waves of emotions that pounded on her. She looked to her right. It was all dark but she knew that was a blind wall. She knew that from their previous inspection that the doors to the store room (which had once been a living area) were removed and the hole on the wall was patched with bricks. And past the store room was the kitchen. If Yi Jeong was still there, calling out for help would be useless.

Ga Eul struggled to her feet, leaning up against the wall. She could still see nothing, but clearer her brain became more easier it was her to breathe. She stared into the darkness, straining her eyes to adjust for the different shades of black. There was a rectangle, to her right, darker than its surroundings, not further from where she stood.

"The cabinet!" she exclaimed and stumbled towards it. There, under the powdery coat of dust the old lighter lied forgotten and undisturbed. Click clack Click... the flame rose up.

Ga Eul paused.

Click clack and Click... Those sounds felt familiar. She tried lighting the flame again. In came the sounds, much solid than the muffled ones she had previously heard.

Click clack...

The spark wheel struck.

And Click... A bright orange leaf came out.

Ga Eul gasped and tried again. Again came the sounds. She laughed and looked back. The demon was grinning wide.

'Phew!' He sighed. 'Thank goodness we could go home now...'

"So the ghost was talking about this lighter, all this time?" Ga Eul was excited. "So this is its source?"

Baekga sighed and returned to his gloomy mood. 'And there! I almost thought you had a brain...' He sighed again. 'What idiot would want you to find its source so you could bury it in a nasty grave?'

"For what else he would want me to find it?" Ga Eul was confused.

'You know what? This job... doesn't suit you. Maybe its about time considering another? Child education perhaps?...'

Ga Eul rolled her eyes. "Baekga." She had a stern expression. The psychic radiation was still pounding on her, but the annoyance for that demon was gradually surpassing it.

'Oh. And don't give me that look!' He stuck out his tongue and looked away. 'Even a kindergartener would have known that that's a cigarette lighter!...'

Wheels started turning in her head as Ga Eul held the little flame out, scanning the room, dismissing the annoying sight of the unamused demon.

A cigarette lighter...

Why would it beckon towards a cigarette lighter?...

The flame flickered in the cold air as her breath drew clouds on space.

She stopped in front of the cupboard, and stared at its knob. It was ice cold and damped cobwebs hung around it.

'Ooh... this is no fun. I gave you all the hints!...' She could hear the demon complaining from behind.

But there was another sound. An indistinct whisper in her ears.

'Aish...'

It sighed.

Again came the knocks on the walls.

Thud thud thud

Thud thud thud...

She held her lighter firm.

Click clack

And Click...

Ga Eul pulled the door open, half expecting a paper white face to stare back at her. But there was none. It was all the same, cloths stuffed into the upper rack, mattresses in the middle and the cobweb woollen lowest. But it wasn't empty, she remembered. Her hand reached for the box of cigarettes.

...

...

...

Yi Jeong did hear Master's scream—he suspected the rest of the village did as well— but that was all part of his punishment, for choosing his sister over them. Or at least for favouring her over them. (Weren't they family as well?) For whatever the reason, Yi Jeong found muttering to himself 'serves him well' when the cry pierced the night.

In fact, he was halfway through the corridor, when he actually began to worry. The ghost fog had disappeared, and the torches were out. Master's little glasses were on floor, and Ga Eul was nowhere to be found.

Instinctively he first called out for Ga Eul, but there came no reply. It was then he spotted Master lying on floor, face down and unconscious. Yi Jeong ran to his side and slapped his chubby cheek.

"Hyung! Wake up!... Are you alright? Hyung!"

Master whined but didn't move. Yi Jeong ran back to the kitchen, brought a cup full of water and splashed it onto his face.

"Yah!" The little eyes snapped open and Yi Jeong let out a sigh of relief. He aided Master to a seat and handed him his spectacles.

Master stared at the round pair of glasses for a moment there. "You know that's a very rude way to wake someone up." He said in a blank expression caressing a fresh crack on the glasses.

"What? Sprinkling water on your face?" Yi Jeong smirked. "I thought that was the sensible way to wake someone unconscious."

Master sighed and put back on his glasses. "it's clearly not how 'sprinkling' is defined. Besides, you won't do that if it was Ga Eulyang, would you?" He emphasized on the 'yang' part as if to highlight his bitterness. "You would have kissed her awake or something!"

"Aish! Quit being so childish." Yi Jeong chuckled, heading towards the guest room. " Where is Ga Eulyang anyway?" He slid opened the door. He was stunned for a moment there, seeing the mess inside, but quickly regained his composure.

Master struggled to his feet and switched on the lights. "I think the manifestation's over." He said as electricity illuminated the rooms.

"Mm." Yi Jeong nodded. "Did you see the ghost?"

Master gave a shiver. "oh. Don't remind me of it."

Yi Jeong chuckled and went to Ga Eul's room. She wasn't there either. Panic started to coil in his belly. Master came out from the other room. He shook his head. Ga Eul wasn't there as well.

"Ga Eulyang!" Yi Jeong called out.

"Ga Eul ah!" and so did Master.

They searched around the house and returned back to the dining, empty handed.

It was then that he noticed the doors for the haunted room were shut tight. Yi Jeong went still for a moment. His heart drummed in his ears as he ran to the doors and tried to slide them open.

But they were stuck.

"Hyung." He whispered in a husky voice. "Bring me an axe."

...

...

...

Peeking into fragments of memories through objects, was another psychic ability Ga Eul had possessed growing up with a demon.

Ga Eul stood up, as the room spiralled around her, vanishing away. On its place, unfolded another identical one. A filament bulb filled the holder, bringing colour to the room. Cobwebs disappeared and so did the coldness. The cabinet the cupboard and the book shelf stood still—though worn out but somehow alive.

It was a fragment of memory— like a glimpse towards the person alive, after encountering his ghost.

Speaking of ghosts, Ga Eul straightened up as she heard the heavy steps being dragged on floor. Doors slid open and in came a short plump man. His eyes were shrunk, dark circles painted around them. His balance was lost (due to alcohol) and he swayed from one side to the other gulping down the remaining half, from a green-glassed bottle.

He came to the cupboard, opened its doors and sat down with a grunt.

"Aish!.."

The cupboard was the same, but with less amount of dust and cobwebs.

Dismissing Ga Eul, the old man took a neatly folded slip out from his shirt pocket. He slid it under the floor boards through a barely visible crack. He patted on it with content and let out another grunt. A cigarette stuck between his weathered lips as he lighted it up. Two clouds of smoke was blown out.

Ga Eul held her breath as he finally looked into her eyes.

"He'll die because of you." The man said, as if it was the most casual thing to say.

Ga Eul woke up.

She was still seated on floor in that dark room.

But it wasn't that dark anymore. With a loud sound of crumbling wood, a crack opened on the doors.

Ga Eul looked up. The two boys with terrified faces stared back at her.

Aish...

A cold breath tickled her ears. Ga Eul turned around. The paper white face hung inches away from hers. Mouth gaped and neck cracked. Its hollow eyes stared back into hers.

Once again she had no time to freak out. A glint of silver flew across the room crashing on the ghost. It shrieked with a deafening cry and shrunk into a corner. More wood cracked, but this time, not from the door. Ga Eul had no time to comprehend when she was pulled into an embrace.

"Agh!"

She heard a sharp grunt, as a strong body pinned her to the floor. A gush of wind blew open the windows. She heard a bird singing from a distance. The blue haze of dawn's pre-light fell upon her face. Ga Eul caught a whiff of lavender coming from the smooth mess of dark hair that tickled her nose.

An unconscious Yi Jeong lied on her, as dust and pieces of wood blanketed over them.

...

...

...

And that was it—an end to another case.

Yi Jeong, who had thrown himself in between the collapsing book shelf and Ga Eul, was treated by Master—in first hand, and by his family physician who arrived at Andong a day later. His bruises were cared and the slight bump on his head was bandaged. Thankfully, there were no severe injuries.

Ga Eul also had a few scratches here and there on her body. The boys had insisted her to seek attention from the doctor as well, but as always she had refused. For her, it was the mental shock that was more prominent—which was drained by the warm nature of the Bom siblings and their in-law within a few days.

Yi Jeong paid off for the unnecessary property damages they've caused (the door and the book shelf) and Ga Eul had reported Master about her visions. A cheque was found underneath the floor boards— an amount of money the late father-in-law had won from his gambling.

Strangely, there came no knocks on walls after the cheque was handed over to the couple. The ghost had disappeared and had never returned. Master reasoned: the ghost had wanted to hand over his inheritance, which was why he reappeared in the human world. And when he found out that it was Ga Eul , not his daughter-in-law, he got angry. Hence had tried to crush her beneath the book shelf.

'Mm... Could be true.' Baekga nodded, unamused. 'He was really keen to meet his in-laws after all...' He eyed towards Master.

The duo was seated on the wooden portico, facing the little back yard. Their backs turned towards the dining, from where constant laughter burst out.

Ga Eul turned around. Master and Chun Hee were debating with Hyun Bin over a little pink dress. Piles of pink baby cloths buried the small dining table.

She let out an exhale. "At least it had a happy ending..." She smiled.

'Happy?' The demon smirked. 'The fact that it tried to kill you?... ooh could have been a lot happier if it was the cupboard.'

Ga Eul sighed. "Anniyo. I was talking about the fact that he cared for them." She said. " After all these years, and even after death?..." She looked into the bright sky. The sun was dangling on the edge of the horizon. "It was kind of sweet." Ga Eul chuckled.

Her mind wandered off into far away memories.

She wondered if it could be the same with her mother and father... and all the loved ones she had lost.

Are they still looking out for me?...

'You are pretty delusional.' Another sigh interrupted her. 'I mean, what if they are born amongst humans? They probably don't even remember you!'

Ga Eul sighed and looked away. Perhaps it was all for the better—she told to herself. And she should be happy for them, if they were born human.

Shouldn't she?

Ga Eul sighed again. She turned towards Baekga.

"What about you? Why are you still here?"

A silence followed as Beakga hesitated. 'We demons don't have memories of our past life.' He said.

"But you remember your name? And you told you were sad and angry when you..." she took in a breath with hesitance.

"died..." and exhaled.

Baekga went silent. His face went pale, as he stared at the darkening sky.

'Aish! My buttocks hurt sitting here!' He stood up abruptly.

"Where're you going?" Ga Eul asked, perplexed for his sudden reaction.

'For a walk in the country side?' He snapped back. 'Oh and I could do without your babbling!'

Ga Eul stared at the translucent boy marching around the hanok, and completely vanishing away at the gate.

The demon was growing weird.

She shook her head and turned back to the sky. The sun had disappeared. Bright shades on clouds were fading into darkness. The street lights were already lit.

"So... Are we even now?" came a voice from behind, interrupting her musings.

It was Yi Jeong, dressed in a rather baggy (yet branded) set of pyjamas with an off white bandage wrapped around his head. Strands of dark hair escaped its grip and stayed like spikes around his head.

Yi Jeong took a seat besides her.

"Ah! anniyo." he chuckled. "I was just joking."

Ga Eul smiled and looked away. She took a silver ring with a beaded chain around it, out from her dress pocket and held it out to him. "I believe this is sunbae's" She said. " I guess it's precious to you."

Yi Jeong went silent.

"Mm." He nodded with a smile. "It was my mother's." He added, retrieving the necklace.

"You shouldn't have thrown it away then." Ga Eul said blankly.

Yi Jeong continued the silence as he clasped it around his neck.

They looked up at the sky. Much to Ga Eul's amaze, it was completely dark. Only the far horizon held the slightest tone of red, like ember, peeking out from dark coal.

"Master and Unnie. They seemed a lot happy aren't they?" Ga Eul awaked her voice again.

"Mm. They definitely are."

...

...silence...

...

"Ga Eulyang..." Yi Jeong cleared his throat, forcing himself to speak.

"_ Sunbae are you convinced enough, about ghosts?" Ga Eul hurriedly asked interrupting him.

He stared blankly at her.

"I mean..." She let a nervous chuckle. "You told this whole research was to convince yourself about the existence of ghosts..."

"Oh. Yeh. Almost..." Yi Jeong gave a confused nod.

"Good." Ga Eul smiled to herself. She stared back into the night sky.

"Because I think it's time we cancel our contract."

–to be continued.
