Chapter 4
So, chapter 4. Tenser than before, let me know what you think!
It happened so fast. Mike actually felt the electricity fly past him, heard Sawyer fall backwards, saw him jerk on the floor. He had instinctively started to reach out.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. The taser was on high voltage, and it defiantly travels."
Mike snatched his hand back at Ben's words, looking at him in fear for his son. This must have been picked up. "Don't worry, Walt is fine. I just needed to insert some authority. Nothing more."
Without permission, Jack started to move. Ben said nothing, just watched as he crawled over to Sawyer – still twitching on the sand – and touched his arm. As soon as he made contact, he pulled his hand away as though burnt. He snapped his head to Ben, then looked at Mike and Sayid. No one stopped him, so he moved around to look at Sawyer's face. He leant into him, murmuring words of comfort, even though the man he is talking to is semi-conscious and not listening. As the minutes pass, Sawyer's body stills, he becomes more aware of his surroundings, telling Jack he was ok. Even though he wasn't.
"So, now we are going to move. Not far. But let that be a lesson to the rest of you. Don't step out of line, don't even think about it," he turned to leave, gesturing for them to get up and follow, "Oh, and someone will need to help him, he won't be able to walk for a while."
Sayid and Mike crawl over to Jack. Sawyer is in more control of his limbs but he is weakened by the shock.
"Is he alright?" Sayid looks at Sawyer from behind, noticing the paleness of his face and tremor in his body.
"I'm fine," Sawyer's voice was weak and quiet, most unlike his usual demeanour. At this, Jack looked over to Mike and Sayid, his face saying what none of them could say out loud. "Get the kid and run."
"No, are you mad? We're not leaving you Sawyer."
"It'll be easier to get the kid now. Get back on the boat."
"We're not leaving you..."
"I'll be fine, just go."
"No, you will not."
Sayid stood, putting himself between Ben and his friends, as Mike and Jack stood, pulling Sawyer with them. His head flopped forward as he rose, his legs not able to take his weight. As Mike and Jack carefully put his arms across their shoulders, Sawyer let out a cry of pain, a combination of his broken ribs and contact point from the taser. The two men stilled, letting him catch his breath. As he slowly managed to get his legs to take some of his weight, Ben started talking.
"You need to move, or we leave you here." He nodded to his guy, who grabbed Walt by the arm and led him away, Ben following, leaving the four men.
The walk was over rough terrain. Mike and Jack walk with Sawyer between them. He tries to walk, to keep up, but his legs stumble and trail behind him. Sayid leading the way, keeping his eyes on Walt. He hears the heavy breathing behind him, the moment Ben shocked Sawyer playing over in his head, knowing the man in front of him is dangerous, that – other than Walt – they are all expendable, seemingly Sawyer more than the others.
They suddenly walk out into a wide clearing. On the left is a cage, on the right is a cage and a long, low building stretched out at the other end. Sayid stops to survey the scene as Ben and his man walk forward with Walt. The others stop behind him, wondering where they were, feeling Sawyer get heavier as he slips further out of consciousness. His breathing is harsh and sounds painful.
"Everyone in the cage." Ben didn't look back at them, but pointed to the cage on the left. He walked over to it, unlocked the door and held it open for them. No one moved. "Now." He had the air of a man who got what he wanted. When no one moved, he removed the taser from his belt. "This is your last chance, get in. We all know how good my aim is. And I think we know who will be receiving it..." Each man tensed, Jack pulling Sawyer back slightly.
Mike and Jack exchanged a look, both knowing there was no way out now. They slowly edged forward, reaching Sayid. They all made their way over to the open door, manoeuvring inside. As Mike pulls away from Sawyer, he turns back to get Walt through the door, but Ben slams the gate in his face.
"What the hell?! Get him in here!"
"Oh no, Walt stays with us. But don't worry, we have plans for you."
