Chapter 19

The end of the first part is close... you'll know what I mean. Let me know what you think!

Mayhem reigned as the siren sounded over the surrounding land. Sayid, Jack and Mike froze their digging, looking at each other, trying to look passive. This was it. They knew what to do and this was it. Ben rushed over to them, his taser at the ready. He looked mad, stalking towards them like he was out for blood.

"Down on your knees. Now."

He pointed the taser at them all in turn. They looked at each other and knelt, throwing their shovels to the side.

"What is happening?" Sayid spoke first. They had a script.

"There has been an incident."

"Is my son ok?"

"Is Sawyer ok?"

"Sawyer is fine. Walt on the other hand has managed to escape."

"What? My son is in this jungle alone?" Mike's fear had been perfected over their rehearsals, and even Jack believed it. He watched as Mike made to stand, seeing Ben walk towards him, ready to shoot, Mike backing back down.

"We'll find Walt. But you three are to go back to the cage and-"

"Like hell am I going back there. My son is lost, he needs me."

"-And sit tight until we have him back," Ben spoke as though Mike hadn't, "Now stand and walk."

The men stood, looking as though this was not what they wanted, but feeling exhilarated that the first part of the plan seemed to be working. Their walk back to the cage seemed much longer than the previous days. The Others were running around, many of them with shot guns.

"Why the hell do they have guns looking for my son?" Mike stopped, looking back at Ben.

"Just keep moving." They had no choice but to obey.

Once they reached the open space, they saw Sawyer with his arms through the gate, nervous energy radiating from him.

"Get back." He walked to stand next to the bench. Ben opened the gate, "Get in." Once they were all in, he locked the gate, turned and walked in to the building.

"So?"

"Walt's gone."

"Son of a bitch, the kid managed."

"Yes, Ben believed us."

"Good."

"Yeah, everything except they have shot guns and are hunting for my son!"

"What?"

"They have shot guns... big ones."

"Did ya'll see any of that at the dig site?"

"No, nothing since the boat."

"But now they are after my son and are armed!"

"They won't hurt him," Jack spoke for the first time, wanting to break up this argument, as not to draw attention to them. "We need to keep our head's straight-"

"We don't know they won't hurt him."

"It's almost night. We need to act normal, we can't afford them to go against us. Not now. We are at the last hurdle. Tonight, we move."

They sat in the cage for the rest of the day. Hardly speaking, Mike staring at the building from the gate. He was scared about what he might hear, but eager to hear something. Night drew in, they watched as the Others returned to the building, shutting off all outside lights. They could hear Ben yelling at someone as the door to the building is opened, hearing nothing after it closes.

"Right, time to go."

"No, we have to wait a while."

"Wait?! Wait, are you insane? Thanks to you, Walt is alone."

"It is not his fault. He is right. We must wait until it is truly dark. Until they are not watching us," Sayid looked between Mike and Sawyer as he spoke. He sat on the ground, acting as he normally would. Mike stood, staring at the building, not wanting to look at the men behind him. It felt like hours, and it probably was, before Sayid stood, took out the metal piece and walked towards the gate. Mike walked away as Sawyer joined Sayid. In no time, the gate was open. They were out.
