Vernon could be heard moving around in the hallway, giving Bender the opportunity to cause trouble, unlike the other five. Samantha looked like the type to do the same, but she just couldn't be bothered. Bender quickly sat in the seat between Claire and Andrew to pretend he wasn't doing anything.
He folds his hands on the table and started to whistle quietly, making an innocent face that'd fool nobody. After Vernon disappeared into his office, Bender sprung to his feet and started walking towards the open door.
"You know there's not supposed to be any monkey business," Brian called. But Bender turned towards him and pointed at the brain mockingly. "Young man, have you finished your paper?" he asked, imitating Vernon. "C'mon, man, don't screw around," Andrew called out in a sigh, sitting up in his seat.
"The hell are you gonna do?" Samantha asked, watching Bender reach up to the corner of the door. They heard the sound of ticks and metal clinging together. "Drop dead, I hope," Andrew commented.
John then pulls something out before strutting back to his where Samantha was sitting. He tossed her a screw that came from the door and she ends up catching it before returning to his seat. "The hell? What do you expect me to do with this?" she asked. "Put it in your bra. Only safe place from Dick," Bender replied, sitting back down.
Rolling her eyes, she does so. The door behind Bender had slammed shut behind him when he undid the screw to the door. Andrew spun around to face Bender with an angered look on his face. "That's very funny, come on, fix it!" Andrew scolded, pointing towards the door.
"You should fix that!" Brian agreed. Bender rolled his eyes and blew some hair back out of his eyes. "Am I a genius?" he said. "No, an asshole. Take this back! I'm not gonna save your ass if we get in trouble for this!" Samantha spat, not agreeing with what he was doing despite her keeping the screw in her bra. She took it out of her bra.
"Fix the damn door," Andrew spat angrily. From outside the library, Vernon was walking back to his office. He stopped and heard them arguing about fixing the door. "I know what I'm doing," Bender said. Andrew wasn't having any of this though. "Fix the door!" he yelled.
Vernon spotted that the library door was shut despite it being supposed to be open all day. "Goddammit!" he shouted before throwing it open. He stormed inside the library with a glare at the six teens, standing in front of Andrew and Claire. "Why is that door closed?" he questioned, pointing at the door.
"How're we supposed to know? We can't move, right?" Bender inquired, playing the innocent act. "Why?" Vernon shouted, staring straight at Claire accusingly.
"We were sitting here like we were supposed to," Claire said. Vernon glared at Samantha and hissed, "Did you close that door?" Samantha shrugged her shoulders and replied, "Nope. I think the screw fell out of it."
"It just closed, sir," Andrew said. Vernon then looks at Allison in the back, who let out a squeak and slammed her face onto the table, hiding in her hood. "She doesn't talk, sir," Bender inquired. Samantha was actually starting to enjoy teaming up against Vernon's tyranny.
"Give me the screw, Bender," Vernon threatened, glaring at the criminal. "Don't have it, sir," Bender replied. "You want me to yank you out of that seat and shake it out of you?" Vernon hissed. "I don't have it, screws fall out all the time. The world is an imperfect place," Bender said, giving a shrug of his shoulders.
"Excuse me, sir. Who'd want to steal a screw?" Claire asked. Vernon was quick to turn on her while pointing her finger. "Watch it, young lady," he growled. "Jeez, would you calm down? She just asked you a question," Samantha butted in. Vernon turned onto her and pointed a finger at her. "You keep your smart mouth shut, or you get another Saturday," Vernon threatened.
He walked to the door, pushing it open. He stood there, looking around the place for a minute before grabbing a weak chair to hold it open that was in the library. "The door's way too heavy, sir," Bender stated, which Vernon ignored.
Vernon lets go of the door, only for the door to slam shut again. "Goddammit!" Vernon cursed. The teens tried to stifle their laughter at how dumb that was. But their smiles dropped when Vernon walk through the door again, looking more pissed off than before.
"Andrew Clark, get up here now," Vernon said, hands on his hips. Andrew's smile dropped when Vernon called his name. "Come on, front and center, let's go," Vernon said, clicking his fingers to make Andrew move faster. Andrew heaved a sigh before pulling himself out of his chair and walking over to the door.
'Andrew… that's a… nice name,' Samantha thought, her face becoming hot. Thankfully, it went unnoticed. Bender's jaw dropped when he saw this. "How come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up, we'll all get up! It'll be anarchy!" Bender declared, throwing his hands up in the air.
They watched as Andrew and Vernon pulled a heavy magazine shelf towards the door. "Watch the magazines," Vernon warned as they tried to squeeze it in between the door with Andrew on the outside. "It's out of my hands," Bender commented under his breath.
They get it, however, the shelf gets stuck in the doorway. Andrew tried to climb back in but his foot slipped and ended up slamming against the shelf. Vernon shook his head. "That's very clever, sir. What if there's a fire? Violating fire codes and endangering the lives of many children would be unwise at this juncture of your career," Bender said.
They were surprised to see that Vernon was actually listening to what Bender was telling him. Having that shelf there, blocking their only exit would be a stupid idea. Vernon wasn't as smart as he fronts.
He then snaps his fingers at Andrew in disappointment. "Alright, what're you doing? Get this out of here, for god sake! Come on!" Vernon shouted. "The school had fire exits at the back too," Brain said, pointing towards the doorway.
Bender shot the brain a sharp glare and said, "Show Dick some respect," They put the shelf back in its place before walking back towards the other five teens. "Go, get back to your seat!" Vernon hissed, pushing Andrew to walk faster. Samantha didn't like that Vernon was treating Andrew like that.
The jock dropped in his seat with a frown on his face. "I would've expected a little more from a varsity letterman," Vernon spat. Andrew turns away and subtly flips off the man. He caught glimpse of Samantha's sympathetic look. He felt his cheeks become red again.
Samantha glared up at Vernon and shook her head. 'Asshole…' she spat in her thought. Vernon looked back in Bender's direction. "You're not fooling anybody, Bender! Then next screw that falls out is gonna be you!" he hissed. Samantha knew that she was skating on thin ice and she couldn't hold in her tongue.
"Looks like the only screw loose is you," she said under her breath, but Vernon heard it. "That's another detention for you, punk-ass," he spat, pointing a finger at him, "Both you and Bender are so pathetic," Samantha felt an invisible knife stab her in the chest. She shouldn't take offense to that but she hears that every single day from her mother if anything worse.
She tried to hide the tears that she felt rising up, catching Andrew's attention. He didn't say anything but he felt a tug at his heart. He saw the tears rise in her eyes.
Vernon had to keep going. "Yeah, go ahead and cry. Surely, your parents are disappointed in how much of a little shit you are," Vernon said, hurting Samantha even more. This was pissing off Andrew even more. They always knew Vernon was always an asshole thanks to their peers, but what he said was low. Too low.
Vernon then turns around to walk out of the door. "Eat my shorts," Bender mutters under his breath. He wasn't quiet enough because Vernon turned around and faced Bender again. "What did you say?" he spat angrily, storming up to Bender's desk.
Bender stared at him dead in the eye. "Eat. My. Shorts." Bender said slowly, pronouncing each word so Vernon could understand. Vernon pointed a sharp finger at him and said, "You just bought yourself another Saturday, mister,"
"Oh, Christ!" Bender mockingly said. Vernon wasn't impressed in the slightest. "You just bought one more right there!" Vernon snapped. "Well, I'm free the Saturday after that… beyond that, I'm gonna have to check my calendar!" Bender snarked, leaning forward.
"Good! 'Cause it's gonna be filled! You want another one? Go ahead and say it! Instead of prison, you'll come here! Are you through?" Vernon berated. "No!" Bender shouted, shifting in his seat, hating Vernon on the same level as Samantha.
"I'm doing society a favor," Vernon said. "So?" Bender said, raising his voice. The others were watching the two go at it, their eyes going back and forth like a baseball game going on. "That's another one, right now! I've got you for the rest of your natural-born life if you don't watch your step! You want another one?" Vernon spat.
"Yes!" Bender shouted, unable to stop back-talking Vernon. "You got it! You got another one!" Vernon hissed, "You through?" "Not even close, bud!" Bender spat back. "Good, you got another one!" Vernon spat. Bender stared at him with a dead-panned expression.
"You really think I give a shit?" Bender said, shaking his head. "You got another one, right now! You want another?" Vernon said.
"Cut it out!" Claire yelled worriedly. Bender looked at her as she mouthed at him to stop.
"How many Saturdays is that?" Bender asked without answering. "That's seven, including the one when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew that he raided his closet. Samantha already has one," Brian said.
"Now, it's eight. You stay out of it," Vernon said to Brian. "But it's seven, sir," Brian protested. "Shut up, Peewee! You're mine, Bender! For two months, I've gotcha. I've gotcha," Vernon said, slowly backing towards the door.
"What can I say? I'm thrilled," Bender retorted sarcastically. "Oh, I'm sure that's exactly what you want these people to believe. Wanna know something, Bender? You oughta spend a little more time trying to do something with yourself and a little less time trying to impress people. You might be better with yourself. That's it, I'm going to be outside those doors. Next time that I have to come in here, I'm cracking skulls," Vernon said, turning to leave.
Vernon left the library and slammed the door shut. "FUCK YOU!" Bender shouted simultaneously with the door slamming shut. Samantha had taken the screw out of her bra and threw it back to Bender, to which he caught successfully.
Andrew noticed that Samantha was still upset from what Vernon had said to her earlier and turned in his chair to face her, looking at her in concern. "You okay, Samantha?" he asks her.
She looked at him and quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. And you can call me Sam, Andrew," she answered, giving him a small grin. "Okay. Don't take what that asshole said to heart, okay? And, it's Andy to you," he said, giving her a cute smile.
"Okay. Thanks, Andy," Samantha said, smiling back at him. "No problem," Andrew replied, turning around to face the front.
Vernon is such an asshole... I'm glad I made it to where Andrew helped Samantha at the end.
