Lost in unfamiliar worlds

Chapter 9 Nightmare

They ran and ran as fast as there legs could take them, there was nothing else they could do but run. Magic was useless against it and fighting them seemed like a fight already lost. Despite that they had still taken up the charge, holding strong onto the hope that they would come out victorious and safe. They were fools for underestimating them.

"Keep up the pace kids, we're almost back to safety!" Eda yelled, guiding the group around the ensuing chaos.

They ran into the forest, quick steps and agile abilities keeping them out of the monster's clutches if only just. The tress already passed were burnt to ash as a dark figure slowly stalked them from behind. A brave if nor clueless monster lunged at the beast only to have its insides turned inside out. The kids shuddered at the hortrific scene, there fear pushing them forward.

"Luz! Look out!"

It was right behind her, a sinister smile across its face as it wrapped its deadly claws around her arm. The pain was intense as a dark liquid began to flow into her veins. Luz attempted to free herself from its grip but it was to late. The monster wrapped its hand around her head pulling her closer.

"Please let go of me! I'm sorry Anne, I'm sorry for everything!"

"Its okay Luz, this way you and I can be friends again"

The last thing Luz saw before fading into darkness was the blade that probably ended her life and then…

Luz shot up from bed screaming, her breathing was static as a cold sweat ran down her body. Seconds later, the door swung open startling the girl, there in the doorway stood a concerned old lady, wearing a pink night-gown. "Kid! Luz! What's wrong?" Eda asked as she glanced around the room, once she was sure there was no current danger her eyes settled back onto the scared little girl.

"N-Nothing just a bad dream" Luz tried to ensure her but her still shaking body was far from convincing. Eda entered the room, taking a seat at the end of the bed placing her hand on the girls knees "Bad dreams can suck huh, trust me I've had my fare share of nightmares"

"You mean with your curse?"

"W-well yeah but… Theres scarier things to be afraid of than a curse" Eda said, then looked towards Luz, she was holding her knees to her chest and resting her head on her arm looking rather worried. "You want to talk about it?"

"I-I don't know, it was weird, like I know none of it was real but I can still remember everything in perfect detail"

"Like what?"

"We were being chased by a monster, you, me and a few other kids I didn't recognise, you were doing your best to keep everyone safe but…"

"The monster got us?"

"Yeah, it caught up and grabbed me and then… Then I woke up screaming and here we are" Luz finished then looked to Eda, she looked like she was lost in thought pondering something and for a moment Luz wondered if it had anything to do with the dream. "Eda?"

"Oh sorry kid, I was just thinking"

"About what?"

"It's not important"

"Eda! Come on tell me!" Luz moaned leaning close to her face.

Eda pushed her away and stood up "Listen kid, it's late, we can talk about this tomorrow okay"

Luz sat there pouting like a spoilt child, Eda left the room and was about to shut the door but stopped. "Pleasant dreams kiddo, if you get scared like that again just give us a call" she shut the door and headed back to her room.

Luz let out a small breath of defeat before pulling the covers back over her, she laid there looking out of the window at the night sky. The dream still bothered her but she knew she was just being silly and besides, she had bigger things to worry about.

"Luz promise me your come back to me and that your never go back to that world again"

"Mama its not your-"

"Promise me!"

"Okay I promise"

It was going to be a challenge getting back to sleep, Luz just laid there glancing out at the sky for the next 40minutes before the sandman finally took her.

Deep in the bowls of Newtopia castle, King Andrias was informing his master of recent events. Andrias knelled down in the large dimly lit room, a round metallic egg in the center with one large eye staring down at him from above. "The toads were unsuccessful in apprehending the human or Lady Olivia and I'm also deeply sorry to say that we seem incapable of locating the calamity box"

This is not what I want to hear from you Andrias

A sinister voice hissed in Andrias head, yelling at him as he killed over in pain. "My lord please, we only need locate the box then our-your plans will be back on track" The pain stopped and Andrias fell back exhausted.

The calamity box is no longer of this world, the human took it.

If we are to retrieve it then we must first locate the human.

"You mean Anne? My lord how do we go about doing that, without the box we lack the power needed to open any portals or awaken the bots"

Do you think I am not aware of that already!

For now, all we can do is wait for our chance.

"But my lord, you can't afford to wait any longer, your body is just about ready to shut down" Andrias said.

Then what do you suggest, without a suitable host I am left with very little choice.

"I know my lord, your incapable of bonding with anyone from Amphibia but there is still one here that I think will make a fine body for you"

Who might that be?

"The only human left in Amphibia, Sasha Waybright."
