An: NymhadoraTonks: It was a typo, I fixed it. Lorelai is dangerous to Everett's heart. Just how Carlos is to Evie's. It's just a subtle hint to the feelings that Evie knows about danger and love. The power is simply the effect of which Lorelai and Ben have on Everett and Rose's emotions. Like in the last four stories every one of Rose's decisions is based on Ben because of their deep relationship as siblings. Lorelai and Everett's bond is more directed to love, but Rose was just drawing the connections. Hopefully, that made sense.

Thank you!

Three more days had passed, and Everett hoped that he would feel better by now. His dreams consisted of nothing but Lorelai. It was torturous at this point. He wanted to see her. It was painful to stay away, but it was what she wanted. Today was what would've been Alyssa's birthday. A day that he planned on giving her an extravagant drawing of the blue butterflies that Everett thought that he and Alyssa shared a bond over.

He gazed down at the incomplete drawing. The butterflies were all there, but his vision of Alyssa in the middle was gone. He opened his palm to reveal the butterfly charm. Everett grinned at it, thinking of how Lorelai had to sneak this into his locker on his birthday. It was meant for inspiration, but now it only gave him desperation. "I'm so sorry, Lori," he whispered to what he thought himself.

Evie cleared her throat, making Everett's head snap up. In the grey lighting, Evie looked young as she did in the memories and visions. She moved closer to him, grabbing a chair and sitting across from him. "I didn't know you were here."

"You did tell me to stop knocking so loudly," Everett pointed out.

Evie chuckled, bringing a small grin to Everett's face. It quickly disappeared as he played with the pendant in his fingers. "I told you that girl was dangerous," she said in a compassionate way. Everett couldn't quite place the moment she had become so caring of him, but he certainly could feel that he had mended part of the bond he had had in the real world. His world.

"I know," Everett scratched the back of his neck. He then sighed, "But I don't have to worry about her anymore. She's not coming back."

Evie's expression softened. "Were you the one to send her away?"

"No," Everett shook his head. "She left because..." Everett stopped. He couldn't tell her the truth without exposing his whole situation. "Whatever it doesn't matter now."

"Why did she leave?" Evie insisted he answer.

"Because she's not mine," Everett shook his head. "She doesn't think I know her. Which is crazy because if I don't know Lorelai, then I hardly know myself. We've been friends for a long time and...I don't know how to explain it."

"Love." Everett's attention snapped back to her. Evie was quite a moment, a small curve was brought to her lips as she stared blankly at the desk. Then she met his hazel gaze. "You're in love with her."

"What?" Everett felt his body tense at the words. "How could I? I-I—" He stuttered to a stop and just stared at Evie, lost for words.

"I don't think you believe your doubts. You know the truth."

"I know that she was in love with me," Everett stated. "Just...not anymore." As soon as the words escaped his lips, he felt his heart drop to his stomach as he sunk back into his chair.

His dreams and memories came flooding back. Not only the ones from his past reality but this one as well. He felt the blood in his hand become thick as he thought about the way she held his hand on the way to the Enchanted Lake. The beauty in her features as she calmly sat by the water. The muscles in his arms tightened as the desire to hold her in his arms like that night when it rained.

"Conroy," Evie reached out and placed her hand on his closed fist. "I want you to listen to me."

He looked at her with no intentions of turning away.

"You can't stay like this, because if you do you'll be even more miserable with time. They say time heals all wounds but it won't. She may have run away, but perhaps the reason she is staying away is that she wants you to find her."

"It's—"

"It's not too late," Evie shook her head. Everett felt himself go numb slightly. "Believe me. It is never too late."

Everett opened his palm again. The butterfly stared back at him. A flutter of hope sparked within him before Evie gasped.

"What is that?"

"Scales?"

The black cat was at the window, staring at him. Everett practically ran to the door. "Scales!" Everett scooped the cat away from the window sill. She purred in his arms. "Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be with Lorelai?" His only answer she gave was bright green eyes locking with his. He looked around, Lorelai wasn't standing anywhere in sight. Scales had come alone.

"This is her cat?" Evie asked as she came outside.

Everet was about to answer, but then a clap of thunder rumbled above them. Another storm. "Lorelai," Everett whispered. The cat meowed and jumped from his arms. He turned to Evie. "I have to go."

"I figured as much," Evie managed to grin. Everett was about to turn away but turned back.

"Is it really never too late?"

"Never."

An: I have a song suggestion for you to listen to in this next part. It's called You & Me by Peder B. Helland. There's a version with rain sounds (about 7 minutes long) and I really want everyone to listen to it when they read this next scene. It adds so much emotion and depth to the story. :)

Lorelai had done her best to keep Everett from her mind. She had been drifting in and out of dreamless sleep during the past few nights. At least that way she can't dream about him. Those were the only thing she could not control. Lorelai grunted as she threw another fireball at the target. It hit the bullseye straight on. Lorelai wiped the sweat from her brow as she caught her breath.

Rose applauded slowly as she strolled in front of the targets. Lorelai was confused. She had done what she asked. "Congratulations, Lorelai. You've tired yourself enough to completely forget about everything else. I'm impressed. It usually takes me weeks to accomplish that level."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying that you're still ignoring the borderline problem."

"It seems like you're talking from experience."

"I am," Rose said intolerantly. "Have you gotten what you've wanted?"

"Yes. I hit the targets without miss. What about you? Have you gotten what you've wanted?"

Rose stopped. "Not yet. Follow me."

Lorelai panted as she followed Rose down to her spell room. She didn't know what exactly she expected. Perhaps she had known what Rose wanted from her. Rose lifted the covering from the rose. It was looking much smaller now. At least five petals have recently dropped. "And? What am I supposed to do about it?"

"Do you remember our conversation a few days ago?"

How could she forget? Lorelai had realized that she was helplessly in unrequited love with a boy who for a first had seen her for something other than a dangerous Isle princess everyone else had. Then, she realized this had happened before, to Rose. She had her own Everett back in Auradon, unknowingly waiting for her. And yet, Rose still refused to go back to him.

"Yes."

"I think you need to stop avoiding this and witness that power I had mentioned."

Lorelai didn't respond, just simply let her hand reach out. She closed her eyes in expectancy of a vision to appear. As soon as the petal touched her palm, Lorelai saw it all. First, it was of dance in what looked like a treehouse. She and Everett were so young back then. Seeing her purple hair made her cringe slightly, but she soon got over it as the next memory showed itself.

They were sitting at the lunch table. Everett had been drawing in his sketchbook, and Lorelai had been slowly eating her lunch. They exchanged little conversation, but slowly, Lorelai moved closer and closer to him. He was sitting on top of the picnic table, his feet firmly placed on the bench beside Lorelai. She studied him for a few moments, watching his concentration. Then, in a fluid motion, she snatched the sketchbook from him.

"Hey!" Everett groaned. She began to flip through it as she strode away from the table. "Lori, give it back." She pretended not to hear. "You're gonna get it." Everett tried to grab the book away from her, but she was magically transported away. In a series of failed attempts, Everett sat back down at the table. "Are you done now?"

Lorelai suddenly appeared right in front of him. He reached for the sketchbook in her hand but instead caught her body. She sat on his lap, an arm slung around his neck. She stared at him for a long moment before he stole the sketchbook back from her. "Gotcha," he said triumphantly. Lorelai's cheeks turned a bright red before she was transported from his grasp and back to her seat at the table.

The next memory had made her heart stir. It was made in this reality. Lorelai was sitting on the edge of the bed in one of the guest rooms facing the window. She watched as the rain hit the glass, trying her best not to flinch. Everett was leaning against the door frame, watching her with eyes she had only seen once before. He looked at her that way the last time she had seen him. It was like they had been glossed to make them last forever in a still stare. His eyes were simply beautiful. He was beautiful. He stared at her as if she were beautiful too.

Sharp pain in her chest lingered as she dropped the rose petals. Lorelai was back in the present time. She couldn't believe what she had witnessed. All of her feelings of sorrow, hope, loss, and love had all come back at once. She finally felt the weight of it all on her shoulders. "I've made a mistake," she admitted.

"Well, I could've told you that," Rose folded her arms. Lorelai didn't have time to deal with Rose's sarcasm. Everett had cared for her, but she hadn't realized it. How could she have convinced herself that she was not worthy of him? By what she had said she had simply destroyed his hope. Rose was right, she did have power over him as no one else had. She needed to find Everett before it was too late.

"I have to go," Lorelai backed out of the room. Rose simply watched her leave the room.

When Lorelai reached the throne room, she noticed that Scales was gone. Bond by her determination, however, Lorelai forced herself to not get distracted. She couldn't even hear the rumbles from the outside. Her mind was filled with possibilities of where Everett could be. She would have to try Evie's first then perhaps his house. Could he be at the Enchanted Lake? She doubted it. But, she would keep it on the list. He had to be in one of those places.

Lorelai stopped when she saw the open doors. Her senses came back to her. She could feel the denseness in the air, smell the fresh earth, hear the pitters of the falling rain, and she saw him sitting there, facing the crying sky, simply watching. She felt her body relax at the sight, but her heart leaped. He had come for her, as she was coming for him.

Slowly, Lorelai moved closer and closer to the opened doors. Her eyes went from Everett to the rain. She fought the urge to let her body shake in fear. Instead, she stood her ground next to Everett, not saying a word, just simply staring outside. She had never viewed rain this way, in peace. She had always shut herself in her room away from all the windows so she would not have to hear the winds or the sharp taps of the rain.

But this sounded like the waterfall at the Enchanted Lake. Her safe place. Where it was calm and peaceful forever. Lorelai never thought she could ever find herself this close to what she thought was dangerous, but here she was, next to him. No glass or barrier to protect her now. It wasn't long before she sat down next to him, enjoying the safe view.

"I thought I knew you," Everett spoke. "In some ways, I do. I know your favorites and your dislikes. But you're right, I don't understand you." There was a smile silence. Lorelai turned her head to study his profile. He grinned as he closed his eyes. "But I would like to. If you let me."

Lorelai's eyes stared back into the rain. It was everything she had wanted to hear. She had so much to apologize for. She had left him. He had nothing stable in this reality and she had left him. They both had hurt each other, but they still came back together. Lorelai felt her heart flutter as she realized Evertt was playing with the blue butterfly pendant in his right. She then noticed his left was placed between them, almost reaching for her.

She kept her head forward but watched as she slid her hand closer to his. Taking a deep breath, she brushed his pinky with her own. His hand flinched but did not move. Lorelai attempted to pull her hand away, but then Everett locked his pinky with hers. She gazed at him in surprise. He didn't look at her, only the rain. A pink blush spread across her cheeks as she turned back to the rain.

Rose had seen the rain and figured to get Lorelai before she saw it and froze. When she transported to the hall, Rose stopped as her eyes took in the sight. Lorelai was watching the rain peacefully, with Everett by her side. He was here. He hadn't lost all hope yet. Rose's lips curved up before she snapped her fingers and left the young teens to themselves and the rain.

They walked through the castle gardens once the rain became nothing but clouds. Everett clutched the butterfly in his palm and kept Lorelai's pinky linked with his own. "I'm sorry for leaving you," Lorelai said suddenly when they stopped walking. They hadn't spoken a word since they got back into Auradon's walls. "I was—I am...scared."

"Scared?" Everett turned to her. How could she be scared? He had simply told her the truth. "Of what?"

"Of...my feelings."

"Your—"

He noticed the light pink blush on Lorelai's cheeks as she looked down.

"Oh," Everett found his own cheeks heating up.

"Oh?" Lorelai met his gaze. He felt a small grin came to his lips. he was so glad to have her back. He hadn't expected to miss her so much.

Everett squeezed her pinky. "I think I'm a little scared too." Lorelai looked utterly shocked by his words but never left his eyes. The heat between them was indescribable. Everett had never felt so pulled in before.

"I think you're right," Lorelai said softly. "I don't think I'm your Lori now, but I think I could be."

"I stand by what I had said before," Everett admitted. "I don't understand you the way I should. New reality or not you are you and I have no excuses for anything I did. How could I let myself want so much more when I had everything I had ever needed in front of me. Now I'm afraid of losing everyone. My mom, my dad, Charlotte, and—"

He was about to go on, but Lorelai wrapped her arms around his middle so tightly he thought he might burst. He didn't mind however as he accepted the embrace. "You could never lose me. Not again," Lorelai whispered before letting go. Everett's hands lingered on her waist before dropping to his sides. His heart raced as she grinned at him. Something about this moment had simply made Everett hopeful.

That evening, Everett was sitting by the glass screen door when Carlos entered the room. He was studying the tree in the backyard. "Conroy, what are you doing?"

Everett flinched at the sudden voice. It had become a habit now that his punctured shoulder wounds had healed and left small scars that would fade in a few weeks. "I was wondering if that tree out there could hold a treehouse."

Carlos crossed to Everett. "I'm sure it could. That one branch is crooked but strong. You could tuck it right in there. Why do you ask?"

A memory suddenly cleared up in Everett's mind. It was strange like the question had simply cleared away the fog with a whisper. "You used to have a treehouse, on the Isle."

Carlos looked simply astonished. "How did you know that?"

He saw Evie and Carlos inside the treehouse. Their first kiss. Everett had seen it in a dream or vision or something. How could he know that? "I don't know," Everett shrugged. "I just knew it was very special to you."

"Yeah..." Carlos scratched the back of his neck. "It was." A small crook formed on Carlos's lips.

"Hey, dad?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you think it's never too late for love?"

His father was obviously taken aback by the question but didn't show it in his expression. "I-I wouldn't know. I suppose. Why? Are you having love problems?"

Everett found himself grinning. "No. I just want to know your take."

"Oh," Carlos sighed, but not of relief. "Well, if it's what makes you happy, there shouldn't be anything in the way of that, should there?"

"I don't think so."

"Why are you really asking me this?"

"Are you happy, dad?"

"Of course I am. I have you and Charlotte and..."

"Mom?"

"Yeah. Your mom."

"Dad," Everett met his father's eyes. Carlos held his breath for a moment. Everett could feel the spark of recognition. He could see Evie's eyes in his. "I don't think it's ever too late for love."

Carlos's jaw dropped slightly. There was a long pause. Carlos looked as if he was about to say something, but then the front door opened. Both jumped at the noise. Jane was home, and any hope that had been in Carlos deflated quickly. Everett sighed as his father became unknown again.

The screaming. It was all she could hear. There was fighting, terror, and fire. She saw herself as the beast. Had she lost control of herself? This didn't make sense.

Then she saw the boy's mother. Her eyebrows formed vicious lines. What did it all mean? There was a clang of metal. Perhaps handcuffs? Swords maybe? She saw Lorelai's face. Her hair was not brown but a striking purple like in the memories of the rose. Was she the one in chains? Who was she fighting? Who could be the enemy? Would she have to face Lorelai?

Lorelai's face soon morphed into Ben's. He had matured and grown, not the teenage she remembered. What did he have to do with any of this? Would Lorelai put them in danger? No. There was no way.

Then she was at the edge of Auradon, looking towards the ocean. There was a distant golden glow. Laughter echoed as a hand that wasn't her own reached out towards the water. She caught sight of the turquoise glowing eyes in the water. They were glossed over with pain and hesitation. They were all too familiar.

Rose woke up with fright. When she realized it was all a dream, Rose began to catch her breath, then began to cry.
