Hello everyone and welcome to chapter 3 of "It Came From Megakat City" and….yea, once again I had writer's block. For anyone reading this, I hope you're staying safe as we enter 2022.
Anyway, chapter 3 will feature some monster-on-alien fighting, the Swat Katz (because everyone loves them), and a little insight into Kathula's history.
Again, since last chapter there hasn't been any reviews but we're still a way before this story is over, so only time will tell.
Until then, enjoy…
Chapter 3: When a hidden agenda is known
Not more than 5 minutes ago, the battle between Big and Kathula began with the latter having been punched by his opponent.
Since then, as Big suddenly found himself being slapped aside by Kathula into a building, he was starting to learn just how dangerous his opponent was.
Roaring, Kathula then turned around back to his previous plan of destroying whatever he wanted, bringing it's claws down onto another building.
As for Big, starting to climb out of some rubble, he proceeded to shake his head before muttering "Ok, that was stupid of me." Getting to one knee, Big soon told himself "Ok, let's try something a little different…", as Big proceeds to flex his arms, which just as quickly the areas from his elbows to his hands were covered in fire and electricity before reforming as blades.
Taking off towards Kathula, Big slashed forward as Kathula suddenly roared in extreme pain while Big flew passed him and made a complete u-turn, circling around a building before stopping in front of Kathula who held his right arm in pain, as Big managed to cross his arms before asking "Oh I'm sorry, did that hurt?"
Kathula roared while holding his arm…..before looking down and realizing something was missing from his arm.
Essentially, his lower portion of the arm in general.
"Don't worry" Big said sarcastically before adding "I'll make sure the next one doesn't hurt as much."
Kathula simply roared in anger, yet if only for a moment before making a new sound.
Something that sounded like…a chuckle?
Big tilted his head, confused, before Kathula threw its head back and roared into the night sky.
Within the next second, Big simply watched as Kathula's right arm began to grow back.
"Aw crap" Big muttered before Kathula swung his left arm towards Big, forcing him to fly low to dodge it. Unfortunately, having forgotten about Kathula's legs, he quickly brought up one of his knees forcing Big to bring his arms up to block, the attack itself sending a shockwave not only towards the buildings around them, causing windows, concrete and even the streets below to crack by the force itself.
As for Big, being sent upward, he could see his arms, once protected with magic shaped like swords begin to crack away before beginning to disappear.
"My Sword Arms…" Big weakly thought to himself as he saw Kathula's left arm pull back and launch forward towards him.
"Now wait a minute…" Callie Briggs stated, being dragged into Enforcer Headquarters and towards the elevator as Felina whispered "I wouldn't say anything else until I can get a hold of the Swat Kats, unless you know how."
Getting closer to the elevator, Felina noticed her uncle exit along with several other Enforcers, Lieutenant Steel included. Realizing something was rather off, Callie muttered "My purse, there's a communicator to them inside." Giving a small nod, Felina took a step back towards the Enforcer with Callie's purse as Feral took Callie by her handcuffs while facing Felina and stating "Well done Felina. The traitor is in custody, and with that this case is closed."
"Uncle, there's something about this case that's been bothering me" Felina began as Feral proceeded to hand Callie over to some other Enforcers and instructed them "Take her to a holding cell so she can be processed" before turning over to Felina and replying "All you need to know is Ms. Briggs was in possession of illegal information vital to the safety of Megakat City."
"What illegal information are you talking about, Uncle?" Felina asked, yet Feral simply turned his back to his niece as he replies "That's classified information. Now return to your post."
As he said this, one of the Enforcers who apparently was holding Callie's purse pulled out the file before handing it to Feral as he muttered "Good work" before walking towards the elevator.
Felina huffed and crossed her arms as the group dispersed while Callie was taken away.
As this occurred, Felia gave a small gulp before noting the item hidden in one of her hands. After all, she was sure her uncle wouldn't mind a small piece of evidence missing.
Especially if it led her to the Swat Katz themselves.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, Big was once again slammed into another building as Kathula roared.
"This thing is ridiculously strong…." Big thought to himself, struggling to stand up yet groaned in pain as he added "…and fast to boot. That's a dangerous combination for a creature of his size." Big then attempted to raise his arms, yet as he attempted to raise the lower halves he stopped and bit his lower beak.
"Damnit! My arms!" Big groaned as he thought to himself "When that thing broke my Sword Arms, he definitely messed my hands up, no doubt."
And yet, as he thought to himself, Kathula began to walk towards him, licking his lips as Big's face went from pain to anger as he muttered "Looks like you haven't given me much of a choice. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't have to use this form. In this case, though, I have no choice" before he began to close his eyes as the shadows began to envelop him.
Although, as Kathula sniffed, it didn't seem like his victim was disappearing.
If anything, he was being covered in…..ink?
Kathula simply stopped roaring and tilted his head, confused.
Why would his victim suddenly do this? It didn't seem to make sense.
Kathula's thoughts of curiosity soon grew as something rather light brown and large began to emerge from the ball of darkness.
To Kathula's surprise, the item in question quickly began to grow and expand revealing…an overly large mallet?
And then, further adding to Kathula's surprise, it swung.
"TOON HAMMER…."
Kathula, seeing the hammer swing downward towards him, quickly swung his body back as the hammer came down.
And yet, while Kathula easily dodged it, the mallet just as quickly disappeared. Kathula looked around, confused.
Looking back to his previous spot, Kathula noticed his victim had disa-BAM!
This time, Kathula didn't avoid it as the large mallet slammed right into his left side and forced him to fall onto the ground. Kathula roared, clearly confused yet angry.
And then it came down on him face-first.
"…..Times 3" Big quietly said, as the large mallet quickly withdrew from the flattened Kathula and back towards Big, who's skin had turned as black as ink and his pupils disappeared. Standing on a different building right behind Kathula, Big simply hardened his eyes.
Not aware of his victim's ability to change his form, Kathula was now facing Big's Toon Form.
As Big placed the now normalized mallet back into the toon space, he checked his fingers and arms before replying "Yep, looks like my hands and arms are good now. Anyway, you're done" as he began to draw from that exact toon space a blade shaped like a large key. At the same time, Kathula began to rise yet clearly annoyed as Big stated "As long as I'm in this form, your power and speed are outranked. I'm ending this fight now before you can even try."
As Big drew the Keyblade back in a swinging motion, the blade began to charge in a white light as his announced "Time to end this! KEY…." And yet stopped.
Kathula, to Big's surprise, simply roared before he suddenly fell to one knee and closed his eye.
Within the next second, Big was in shock as Kathula simply began to fade.
"Wait, what?" Big asked, as the creature before him seemingly disappeared. Big looked left and right, yet found nothing before the Keyblade in his hand simply began to disappear while his body began to turn back to normal.
"How did it just suddenly vanish? It was just poof and that's-AH!" Upon turning back to normal, Big suddenly fell to his knees as he checked his arms.
It seemed the damage had returned as Big growled while realizing "Great, just great. My toon form doesn't repair the damage. It just holds everything together for a while. How else can this get worse?"
Upon realizing the flashing lights, Big slowly got to his feet before noticing people with camera and phones.
His best guess? They had been recording the fight. Which meant his new form's secret was out.
"Damn" Big muttered as he sighed and slowly took off into the night sky before realizing "Dad's gonna kill me."
As he did, somewhere hidden within the shadows Belial groaned before stating "Damn that monster. All that power, all that speed, and yet Big was able to outsmart it into retreating. Damn you, hero, and yet…." Belial stopped before looking at his hands as they held 2 small capsules, as he soon added "….he did his job exceptionally well. Big may have the power of toons, but it seems he has been wounded, and this gives me an idea to add to my advantage."
As he spoke, Belial disappeared into shadows, already breaking the physics of space and time to head to Megakat City.
His ideal targets….
Somewhere at the junkyard outside of Megakat City limits, there were two tomcats busy with another day's worth of repairs.
To everyone else, they were once known as respected members of the Enforcers: Chance Furlong and Jake Clawson. At the time, they were two of the best pilots to ever fly a plane.
After their first meeting with Dark Kat, however, that changed.
Disgraced, grounded, and so far into debt with the city that they may never escape, Jake and Chance found themselves having to work in the junkyard repairing whatever it took for whomever needed repairs.
And yet, where there is despair, there is also opportunity.
For one day, after spending so much time recycling parts, the birth and first flight of the Turbokat brought upon the arrival of The Swat Kats.
So, what were the vigilantes of Megakat City up to on this day?
BOOM!
An explosion occurred, as an old car suddenly found a rather large claw attached to it as a tomcat wearing a mechanic's jumpsuit and a red hat facing backwards pointed a black-painted bazooka towards the ground before saying out loud "Gotta admit Jake. The improvements you made to the Octopus Missile are impressive." Chance raised the bazooka once more before stating "With this in our arsenal, even Dark Kat better watch out."
"Yea, if he ever shows up again" Another cat stated, this one dressed the same but skinner and with brown fun. "By the way, have you noticed it's been kind of quiet recently."
"Yea, a little too quiet" Chance muttered, yet as he loads another missile into the bazooka. "Kind of makes you wish something would happen already. Heck, I'll even take the Metallikats at this point."
"Careful what you wish for, Chance" Jake stated, placing a strange glove on his right hand with small launchers on it as he continued "You might end up jinxing our day."
As Jake aimed his Gloveatrix at another vehicle, a voice was suddenly heard "So you prefer a challenge?"
The two looked around, yet found nothing.
"What was that?" Jake suddenly asked, his Gloveatrix fixed in front of him as Chance did the same with his bazooka. "No idea partner" he replied, yet the voice spoke once more.
"Do you prefer something with a little more of a challenge? Perhaps something that can bite back?"
The two turned towards one another, a glare in each of their eyes yet a look that was clear.
Who-or what-ever this voice belonged to, it wasn't one to trust.
And yet, the mysterious voice simply chuckled in delight.
"If I give you the power to be even greater, will you do my bidding?"
"Naw!" They both replied, as the voice asked "What?" In turn, Chance replied "Thanks but no thanks. We're pilots, not superheroes. And especially, we're not suckers."
"You fools" the voice stated, adding "You mock my offer? Well, no matter. You both shall pay for your disrespect….or rather, your precious Callie Briggs will."
"WHAT?" The both screamed, as Jake added "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HER?" while Chance stated "If you hurt Ms. Briggs in anyway…." "Oh, I've done nothing to her. Yet."
As Jake and Chance growled, a new sound was heard from their pockets.
An alarm.
"Crud, Callie's communicator" Chance realized, pulling his out from his pocket as he answered "Yes Ms. Briggs?"
"T-Bone, is that you?"
"Felina?" Chance asked, surprised as much as Jake who shrugged his shoulders. "What are you doing with Ms. Briggs' communicator?"
"Well, this does confirm Ms. Briggs' connection to the two of you, but listen. Callie's been arrested." Felina said, shocking Jake and Chance as she continued "She's being held at Enforcer headquarters, and she could use some help."
Before Chance could say anything, Jake stated "We're on our way" as Chance pocketed the communicator before the two began running towards their home.
As they did, the voice of Belial laughed until it began to disappear. All was according to plan, and soon enough, rather they liked it or not, the Swat Kats would find themselves in unfamiliar skies.
Meanwhile, in an unknown area somewhere within space and time, Kathula simply roared in rage while in a kneeling position on a small floating platform.
He didn't know just what kind of creature his opponent was, but in the back of his mind, Kathula was simply baffled. No being could be more powerful than him.
After all, he remembered why he was created: to destroy all Magical Birds.
He also knew what HIS reason to exist was: to have revenge on cat kind.
He never wished to be born, and yet it was forced on him.
He never wished to be the hunter, but now he would be the executioner.
Roaring in pure rage, Kathula soon began pulsing a dark black and red wave of energy around it.
And yet, as it did, somewhere in the shadows, Belial chuckled as he muttered "Soon creature. Soon…", all the while playing with the two small capsules in one of his hands before adding "….but first, it's time to begin the next phase of my plan."
Meanwhile, back in Megakat City, as Callie found herself sitting in a holding cell, her hands cuffed, yet her thoughts began to wonder.
What was so important to keep this "Project Kathula" away from the public?
Why was she being branded as a traitor, if she has worked just as hard as anyone for the city? For it's people?
And, most importantly, what was Feral hiding?
Just then, hearing the door into the holding cells open, Callie turned to her left, relieved to see Felina enter as she walked over to her cell before asking "So…" she started, crossing her arms before adding "…before I ask what's going on, keep in mind there is a camera monitoring this room, and armed guards right outside." Callie simply crossed her eyes before stating "I know that, so why tell me any of this?" Felina sighed before replying "Standard procedure, nothing more. That said, what is going on? Why did my uncle suddenly declare you a traitor to Megakat City?"
Callie prepared to stand up, yet Felina extended a hand and shook her head. "Don't" she softly said "If you do, there's a chance either someone will enter or I'll be ordered to…" she stopped before motioning over to her pistol on her side.
Nodding to show she understood, Callie stopped and simply resumed sitting while Felina brought her hands to her side and nodded to go ahead.
"I'm not sure what's going on myself" Callie began, confused as she added "One minute, I'm looking through all the paperwork that's piled up for the city's expenses. The next thing I knew, a file literally falls on my desk called "Project Kathula." Felina, crossing her arms, asked "Project Kathula? What is that?" Callie took a moment to take a deep breathe, not sure exactly how to answer it, before finally replying "Some kind of monster I've never seen before."
"Wait, so Project Kathula was a monster?" Felina asked, as Callie begrudgingly replied "I think. The photo in that file showed something that looked like a monster, but I'm not 100 percent sure."
"That doesn't make sense" Felina muttered before asking "If any of this is true, then why hide it? What would anyone gain from keeping all of this from the public, let alone from the Enforcers?"
Callie simply shook her head before adding "Felina, your uncle's name came up in that file."
At that moment, a group of Enforcers entered the room as one of them began to push Felina aside and stated "Lieutenant Feral, step aside. Ms. Briggs is being transferred." Felina, understandably upset, demanded "By who's orders? I'm still questioning the prison-"
Felina, however, was suddenly silenced by another Enforcer who entered the room, her uncle, as Feral demanded "Not anymore. Effective immediately, you are under a gag order." Felina simply screamed "OH COME ON UNCLE! Don't you think-" she was just as quickly cut off by her uncle who added "And furthermore, there will be no more discussion of this 'Project Kathula' any longer. Its nothing more than nonsense."
"Uncle, please see reason in this." Felina stated, attempting to add "Let say that everything she said was true. The only way to confirm it is…", and yet once more Feral cut her off, stating "The only thing in that file is incriminating evidence against…"
And yet, this time Feral was cut off by Callie, but not by something she said.
But rather, by a scream, as a rip suddenly appeared behind her and caused Callie to fall through.
"MS. BRIGGS!" Both Felina and her uncle screamed, and yet as the rip closed, Felina cursed her luck while Feral thought to himself "She got away. The Mayor isn't going to like this."
Back on Earth, as Big flew through the city, he could do nothing more but groan as he looked at his arms in casts from his hands to his elbows, his fingers being the only part not taped.
"I can't believe my bad luck with that cat monster" he thought to himself, adding "My arms are messed up and it could take up to a week for my magic to heal the damage, but given the damage plus everyone else out of town, I'm stuck dealing with the monster on my own."
Landing on a rooftop, Big then looked up at the sky and groaned some more, as he sat down and continued to think "To make matters worse, after what the media saw and released last night, now I'm under investigation. At best, I could possibly lose my job or get locked up in a science lab. At worse,…" he stopped, looking down onto the ground before realizing "….I'll have to leave this planet or die, and I don't want to leave."
Big simply sighed, his face devoid of any life left when he heard a sound.
The sound of another rip.
"Oh now what?" Big muttered, as he stood and looked up, suddenly seeing a new rip in the sky appear.
And yet this time it was much smaller.
And something….no, someone, a she-kat in a pink suit, was falling from it.
"Oh no!" Big suddenly realized, as he flew upward to catch her while the rip began to close up.
Callie Briggs didn't know what to expect within those few moments, nor what to think of any of it.
She didn't expect to suddenly fall through, for the lack of a better term, a hole in the universe that lead her into the skies of an unknown planet.
She didn't know what to expect as she fell from thousands of feet in the air onto what she could only assume was concrete floor.
She especially wasn't expecting to be caught by, at first glance, a stranger in black who just so happen to suddenly fly up and catch her. If anything, her first thought was "Wait, am I on a planet with no gravity or is someone literally flying up to catch me?"
The second she saw Big's face, however, as he asked "Ma'am, are you all right?", her thoughts immediately changed to "OH NO! NO! I'M ON A PLANET WITH A MAGICAL BIRD!"
To Be Continued….
Inside the seemingly quiet office of Mayor Manx, he takes a sigh of what could either be relief or concern as Commander Feral enters the office. "Commander Feral, please do come in" Manx says, as Feral closes the door behind and walks towards Manx's desk, dropping the file in front of him. "I'm not sure how Ms. Briggs got her hands on this, but she did, and now she knows about Project Kathula and my connection to it."
"That is quite a disappointment" Manx coldly says, rubbing his forehead before stating "Ms. Briggs was always such a loyal deputy mayor, but she always favored the people over the bigger picture." Feral could only nod, adding "Yes, the continued existence of our people, and the eradication of all Magical Birds. It's just a shame Kathula didn't work out."
"He was disloyal and was dealt with" Manx corrected him before adding "And now, we must do the same to Ms. Briggs. If we don't silence her, eventually the people will find out, and then so too will those wretched freaks." Feral soon cleared his throat before stating "There's just one problem: She's disappeared."
Manx, not surprisingly, screamed "WHAT?" before adding "What do you mean she's disappeared?" Feral, not exactly sure how to answer, simply replied "Somehow, she fell out through a hole and disappeared. We even checked every room and floor in Enforcer headquarters and came up short."
Manx sighed before simply stating "Find her and do whatever it takes to keep her quiet. Do you understand? It's important the Magical Birds never learn what we were planning all these years ago, otherwise the wars will start all over again." Feral simply nodded and stated "Understood" before turning around to leave the room.
As he did, Manx simply sighed before pulling out from a drawer in his desk a large bottle of milk and a shot glass.
And, we are done with this chapter. As always, if you didn't like the chapter I do apologize.
Anyways, once again I do apologize it took so long to finish this chapter but hopefully we can get to the end of this story one way or another.
And now, here's the synopsis for the next chapter to come:
"After rescuing Callie, Big accompanies her to where former residents of Megakat City live in the city. However, after running into Kita and Suzy, Kathula returns for a rematch. This time, though, while Big decides to even the odds as Tiga, Belial reveals his surprise. Plus, how did the Swat Kats suddenly appear on Earth from out of nowhere?
All this and more "When Kathula Evolves!"
Until next time….
