Chapter 2. It's Not a Date

Loki woke up the next morning. He got up, took a bath, and then dressed after bathing. He stared at himself in the mirror, he was wearing the same black suit he wore yesterday. He changed his suit to a black hoodie, a long-sleeved green shirt, along with a pair of black jeans. He changed his knee-high boots to a pair of dress shoes. "The shoes don't match." A voice appeared in the doorway. Loki knew right away who the voice belonged to, he turned to the doorway, where Fandral was leaning against the frame of it. "Haven't you heard of knocking, Fandral?" Loki asked. Fandral chuckled a bit. "I did, but you didn't answer." Loki rolled his eyes. "Let me guess, you were worried about me, or did you come to talk to me about the woman I met yesterday?" Fandral thought for a bit. "Don't know." He replied. Loki chuckled. "What kind of shoes do you think I should wear?" Loki asked. The other thought a bit longer than the first time. "The shoes Midgardians call sneakers." He said. Loki changed his dress shoes into green and black sneakers.

Then looked back at Fandral. "Better?" he asked. "Yes, much better, now I must go I have a date." Fandral said standing up right. "Who is the lucky lady this time?" Loki inquired of his friend. "Eir." Fandral smiled. Loki rolled his eyes again. "Well, you have fun on your date Sire." Fandral winked as he walked away. "It's not a date! I'm just teaching her, Norwegian!" Loki called. He could hear Fandral laughing.

Loki started wondering if he should bring Assi a gift, but he didn't know what she would like. Loki walked over to his bed and sat down, he thought about what Assi might like, then it hit him. He knew exactly what to bring, he moved his left hand over his right, as if he was petting an animal, soon an illusion of a beautiful silver necklace with an emerald appeared in his hand. The green emerald reminded him of Assi's eyes, and the silver shined like stars. Loki smiled down at the necklace.

Once it was finished, he stood up and went to his secret passageway that led to Nidavellir, the home of the dwarves. Loki wasn't sure if the dwarves would want to see him again, after tricking them all those years ago, but Assi was worth it. "What do you want this time?" Eitri asked not thrilled to see the Asgardian Prince at all. He showed the necklace to Eitri as his brother Brökk walked over to see what the prince was doing in their realm again. "I want you to make this for me." Loki ordered. Brökk smiled at the necklace. "What's in it for us this time?" he asked. Loki shrugged his shoulders because he could not think of anything. "I'll think of something." "How about your son's magic ability?" Loki agreed to that, because Sleipnir couldn't use magic. So, Loki believed he was tricking the dwarves again. "Oh, and I need that necklace by noon." Loki said. Brökk and Eitri stared at the prince. "Your Majesty, noon is in 15 minutes." Eitri said, Loki's eyes widened when he heard that. "Shit!" the prince exclaimed turning away but looked back at the brothers. "Oh, uh when it's finished send it to Asgard and tell Queen Frigg to put it in my room!" Loki said then ran back to his secret passage.

He reached Asgard, he kept on running, and he didn't stop until he was at the end of the Bifröst. "Heimdall. . .Open . . . the…Bifröst." Loki paused to catch his breath. Heimdall knew where he wanted to go so, he didn't wait for Loki to finish. Heimdall opened it. "She awaits you, but you must hurry." He said. Loki nodded then almost leaped through the Bifröst. Heimdall closed it and watched the prince run off to meet Assi. The Gate keeper returned to his usual spot. Just as Thor reached him. "Ms. Foster awaits." Heimdall said smiling. Thor smiled back. "Did Loki leave?" he asked. "Yes." The gatekeeper replied. Thor was glad that Loki was seeing someone instead of hanging out in the stables, reading stories to Sleipnir. Not that that was a bad thing, Thor just felt that Loki needed to spend more time with humans and maybe this Assi woman was just the one Loki needed.

Assi was sitting by a window in the café, waiting for Loki, she would have called him but couldn't because he never gave her a number. Around 12:19 she started getting worried. She texted Scarlett. "He's not here yet, how much longer should I wait?"

Scarlett responded: "15 more minutes than text him, if he's not there yet."

Assi quickly texted back. "Didn't give me a phone number."

But just as soon as she hit send, the door of the café flew opened, like a huge gust of wind took hold of it. The bell didn't seem to have time to chime because of how fast the door was ripped opened. The door also seemed close to hitting the building. Assi and the other people in the café looked at the door. Everyone wanted to see what force of nature could rip a door open like that. Assi smiled when she saw Loki standing in the doorway. He looked out of breath, he was hunched over, and he was panting like he just ran a marathon. To Loki, it felt like he did.

"He just got here. I'll text you later." Assi texted Scarlett.

"Okie, ttyl" Scarlett responded

"Are you alright, young man?" an older woman asked, she was sitting the closest to the door with her grandchildren. Loki couldn't answer, he was out of breath, and he felt like he was about to pass out, if he didn't sit down. After a moment of catching his breath, he looked up and searched for Assi, he found her sitting in the same spot as yesterday. He walked over and pulled out a chair, he fell into it. He was tired. "Do you want water?" Assi asked. Loki just nodded. Assi stood up and walked up to the counter to buy him a water bottle, when she came back, she handed it to Loki. he grabbed the bottle, but stared at it for a while, because he couldn't figure out how to open it. "You twist the cap off." Assi told him thinking that it was odd that he wouldn't know how to open a water bottle, and how he was staring at it as if he has never seen one before. He twisted the cap off and drank it quickly. Assi sat across from him, waiting for him to finish before speaking. "Thank you." Loki said placing his bottle on the table. "You're welcome." Assi smiled. "I am sorry for being late." Loki apologized. "No. it's alright, I just thought that you changed your mind ab-" "I just had a problem with some dwarves." Loki leaned back into his chair and crossed his arms. "I think dwarves is a little rude." Assi said. Loki laughed a bit. "Not if they call themselves that." He smiled. "I guess you're right." She agreed. Before they started their lesson, Assi wanted to learn more about Loki.

She started out by asking questions about him and his family. "Well, I was adopted into a big family, so I have nine older brothers, and two younger ones, who are my real brothers." he answered. He didn't think he should tell her the names of his brothers. "So, you have 11 brothers?" Assi said, Loki nodded in reply. He was surprised that Assi didn't seem shocked about what he said. "You don't seem surprised." he said, "Well that's because my grandmother was the middle child of 11 siblings." Assi said giggling. "Oh! That's why you're not surprised." Loki laughed. "Tell me, do you have any brothers?" he asked. "Yes, an older brother." She replied, "I also have two sisters, an older one and younger one." "I also have an older sister, I never met her though." The prince smiled glad that he and Assi seemed to have some things in common. "Oh, why's that? If you don't mind me asking." "She's in prison." Loki explained hoping that wouldn't scare her off. she sat there quiet for a bit. "I wouldn't be surprised if my sister Snaedĩs ended up there." Assi answered. Loki wasn't sure if he should laugh or not, so he decided to talk about something else. "I don't really like having 11 brothers." Loki commented, "Why? Are the others mean to you or something?" Assi asked. Loki sat up right, keeping his arms crossed, he looked almost angry. "Let's just say my oldest brother, is the only one who gets me." Loki said in an annoyed tone. Assi looked down at her sandwich, feeling like she upset him. "Say what is your favorite kind of flower?" Loki asked. "Lilies." Assi replied looking up at him. Loki would have to keep that in mind. "Oh. I was wondering where you got that rose you put behind my ear the other day?" Assi asked. "I had it with me the whole time." He lied. "Well, are you ready to get started?" Loki asked trying to distract Assi. she nodded. She was still a little confused by his answer because he couldn't have had the rose with him, because it's not the season for roses. He started with words like hello and bye. He sat there listening, but time to time, he would correct her pronunciation, but other than that, he would stay quiet, listening and smiling.

Assi started feeling uncomfortable with the black-haired man sitting across from her, just smiling. "Do you have to keep smiling at me, like that?" she asked. "It's a little unsettling." Loki straightened up a bit. "My apologies." He said. "It's alright." She noticed how proper and polite he was. "Say, why don't we go sights seeing after this?" he suggested. Assi thought that it was an odd thing for him to suggest since he told her that he hasn't been here in years. "Are you sure, that you won't get lost?" she joked making Loki smile warmly at her. "Yes I am." he answered, she nodded in agreement. They finished up and Assi paid for her sandwich and soda, along with Loki's water.

Then they left the café and walked through the Streets of Norway. As they walked, Loki started wondering if maybe it could be a date like Fandral had said, no the God of Mischief was sure that it was just two people hanging out and getting to know each other, which he didn't mind at all, he wanted to get to know Assi better, and he had a feeling that she did as well. "Where do you live?" she asked not remembering if he told her or not. Loki turned to her and looked down. "Around." He replied not wanting to tell her that he lives in the realm of the Gods, because he was sure that she wouldn't believe him or maybe she would even think that he is crazy for saying something like that, so he thought it would be for the best to keep it to himself for now at least. Maybe there would be a right time for her to know the truth about him and where he is from, but for now he is just going to be Loki, not a prince of Asgard, but just Loki the mortal and Assi's friend, although he secretly hoped that could change as well.

"Maybe some time, we could hang out there…or the apartment I share with Scarlet and Austin, I'm sure they wouldn't mind seeing you again." Assi said with a smile. "What about Jim?" Loki asked hoping that he wouldn't run into James again. "Oh, we could hang out with him as well, but he's away, so I don't know when he'll be able to hang out." Assi answered. Loki was glad that James wasn't going to be around for a while. But he didn't want to upset Assi if she knew that Loki and James didn't like each other, because The God of Mischief didn't want her not to like him anymore if she knew that her friends didn't like each other, Loki knew that he was sounding child-ish but so what. "Something wrong?" Assi asked. "Oh no." He smiled. She smiled back.

Loki walked Assi to her apartment. "Do you want to come inside?" she asked. He shook his head. "No, thank you. I have to get home." He said. "All right. I'll see you later then." "Yes, I should be able to come back tomorrow same time?" he said. Assi thought for a bit, "I can't tomorrow at noon because I have to work until 5pm, but maybe after 5 or maybe the day after at noon?" "The day after, is fine. I'll see you the day after tomorrow then." Loki kissed her hand, she blushed. "Okay. I'll see you then." "All right, farewell My Lady." Loki smiled then let go of her hand and walked away. Assi watched him. She couldn't help but stop thinking about how handsome he was, but they were just friends.

"Sire!" Fandral greeted loudly once the Prince reached Asgard, he sighed. It wasn't that he wasn't happy to see his child-hood friend, but it was because he knew that Fandral was going to start interrogating him about his date with Assi that wasn't one. "Before you ask, my day was fine and just like I told you this morning. it wasn't a date." Loki said. Fandral smiled at him. "Sure, sure whatever you say. Sire." He put his arm around the prince and led him down the Bifröst as Heimdall closed it. "Why don't you tell me about your date?" Loki asked. Fandral told him everything in detail. Loki just listened, it annoyed him with how many dates Fandral could get, while the prince couldn't get one and haven't had a date since he was a teenager. "Maybe I should help you and this Assi get together?" Fandral said once he finished talking about himself and his date. Loki looked at the blond man walking beside him and shook his head. "No! I mean no thank you, I can get a date on my own." He quickly answered. The other man chuckled. "Yes of course you can, but the last person you dated talked you into_" "FANDRAL!" Loki shouted turning beat red, "All right, I'm sorry, Sire. I didn't mean to upset you." "You didn't, it's just that's a day I don't want to remember." He looked forward again, his friend knew why Loki didn't want to remember that day. "But you know if you think about it. If you and you- know-who never dated then Sleipnir never would have been born." Fandral pointed out. Loki groaned in annoyance. "I hate you, so much right now." "No, you don't Mon ami. (My friend)." the other smiled. "Très bien peut-être pas. (Fine, maybe not)." Loki returned the smile, though Fandral annoyed him just as much as Balder, but unlike Balder. the prince was grateful for a friend like Fandral. "I'll make you a deal Fandral." "Yes what is it?" he asked keeping his eyes forward as the two entered the palace. "If you help me with Assi, I'll help you with your magic." Loki bargained. "Mmmm. But I thought you could get a date on your own." Fandral smirked. Loki sighed again. "Do you want to get better at magic or not?" "I do. Okay your highness, it's a deal." His friend responded. "But before I can help you with Assi, you have to tell me about this 'not' date of yours." Loki knew this was going to happen, but if he wanted the warrior's help. He needed to spill the beans about his day, whether he wanted to or not.
