I'm gonna be a...!

Brett pov

"Dear diary, it's now been a month and a half since Rand took over Cognitio, he's made many changes to the company. The worse being that 'the gang' can no longer go on work missions all together." Brett speaks into his tape recorder as he sits alone in his office. "Only a few times since he took over has Rand allowed more than two members of 'the gang' to go on a mission together, none of which Reagan was allowed to go on." Brett let's out a sigh as he continues to gather his thoughts as he speaks into the recorder. "Reagan and I...still haven't spoken much since 'the incident' so friendship status still unknown. It's actually hard to know if things are really bad between us because Rand is doing everything he can to...keep us all a part."

Brett stood up from his chair to stare out his glass window, he looked down to see the other employees of Cognitio Inc going about their business. He waved to a few who made eye contact with him but other than that he watched to see if the doors of Reagan's lab would open anytime soon. Before Rand's takeover 'the gang' at this time would have been at the employee lounge, they used to take their coffee breaks together as a group but that had changed when Rand became CEO. Every time anyone came into the break room a timer would start for five minutes and once those five minutes were up a robotic hand would push whoever was in there out of the room. No two people could be inside the room at the same time and if a person was inside of another person's office for more than ten minutes they had to write a report about the reason why they were in there. "Employee morale has become extremely low, Rand refuses to take any of my suggestions and employee mental breakdowns have gone up as well." Brett continues his recording looking away from the window just as another new employee broke down about the moral dilemma of running the shadow government. "It's become very clear that I'll need the help of my co-leader in order to improve things for the rest of the employees but-"

But Reagan isn't talking to me. Brett thinks sadly to himself, a month and a half since what Brett referred to as 'the incident' and Reagan was avoiding him or at least he thinks she's avoiding him. Truthfully Reagan hasn't spent very much time with the rest of 'the gang' either, she has turned down going out for drinks at least five times since 'the incident' and their usually Nostalgia Movie nights were no longer happening. Reagan's excuse was always that Rand was making her work on extra projects but Brett wasn't so sure that was the only reason. When the two had woken up naked together in bed after a night of drinking and trying to make a baby, Brett had been surprised but excited about the idea of starting a family. It was all Brett had ever wanted while growing up in a household with parents that forgot about him and older siblings who didn't have time for him.

A loving family to help fill the void of loneliness and neglect in his heart, when he started working at Cognitio Inc that void had begun to fill because of his new work family. They may have their issues but they were a team that truly cared about each other, but that didn't mean that Brett didn't want a traditional sitcom family some day. Waking up naked next to Reagan and learning that they had spent the night trying to make a baby was awkward but not completely unwelcomed. Sure he was nervous about suddenly being thrusted into fatherhood but he was ready to accept the responsibility with a smile and a positive attitude. Than Reagan said that they weren't going to have a baby and...maybe he didn't hide his disappointment well enough and that was the true reason Reagan wouldn't speak to him. Sure they had been completely wasted when they came up with the idea but that didn't make it a bad one did it? To Brett at least the situation was perfect for blending in both his work family while still starting his own, he'd never have to make any tough choices about choosing between his work best friend and the mother of his child if they were one and the same. No issues, no work versus home conflicts and bonus he and Reagan would have a cute little baby to smother all the love and affection they never got as children and desperately needed to get out. Reagan was the smart one though and if she thought that having a baby was a bad idea then he would follow her lead no matter what, he can get over not getting the chance to blend his work family and home family. But he could no longer take not speaking to his BFF ever again. "Dear diary, today I'm going to end the month and a half worth of silence and no eye contact with Reagan so that we can finally clear the air and become BFFS again." Brett says in a determined tone before going back to his desk to get back to work.

Later that afternoon

So it may have taken Brett a bit longer than he had thought to get through his workload but he had managed to finish ten minutes before the work day was done. And after fighting back the urge to throw up every time he even looked in the direction of Reagan's lab he finally gain the courage to confront Reagan. He took a deep breath as he stood outside her door before going inside, usually he wouldn't just barge into Reagan's lab without her permission especially because one can never know what kind of experiment Reagan was actually doing. But this was a best friend emergency so Brett was willing to take the risk.

The sound of her lab doors opening suddenly were enough to catch Reagan by surprise. She had clearly been about to go into her lab's bathroom when Brett made his sudden intrusion. "Brett, fuck what are you doing here?"

"Listen Reagan, I know that the past few weeks has hectic every since Rand took over the company." Brett begun to say in a determined tone as he walked up to her.

"Brett listen, now is really not the time to talk because-" Reagan tried to explain and if Brett hadn't been so worked up about getting some things off his chest he would have noticed how Reagan was holding in her stomach.

"I know that things have been awkward ever since 'the incident' and I know how much you hate having to talk about your feelings but I believe that for the sake of our friendship we've got to have-" The rest of his sentence was cut off as Reagan quickly ran into her bathroom, then came the sound of Reagan throwing up. "Reagan?!" Brett questioned now in a worried tone as he followed after her, he found her on the floor bent over a toilet throwing up whatever it was she had for lunch today. Brett quickly ran back into the lab grabbed a cup filled it with water from the sink and ran back into the bathroom, on his was over to Reagan he also grabbed a paper towel. "Oh Reagan, I'm sooooo sorry, I've been such a bad BFF!"

"W-What? No Brett you don't understand I-" Reagan tries to explain.

"Of course I am!" Brett interrupts as he begins fussing over her. "You tried to tell me that you couldn't talk, but I was too busy selfishly thinking about my gripping emotional fear of losing my BFF to pay attention to the fact that you were sick!"

"But Brett-" Reagan tries to speak again as Brett wipes pieces of vomit off her face.

"After you drink this cup of water I'm gonna drive you home." Brett interrupts again. "I'll make you some soup and get you some crackers and-"

"BRETT!" Reagan screams into his ear causing him to flinch. "I'm not fucking sick!"

"Reagan compared to you I know I'm not a genius but I'm pretty sure that vomiting up lunch out of nowhere is the universal sign of being sick." Brett chuckled while rolling his eyes a bit at his friend. "So unless you've been drinking in here-"

"I haven't had a drink in over a month...not since-" Reagan begins to explain. "We...I...think-"

"We don't have to talk about that now." Brett says quickly moving to help her up from the floor wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "It can wait until you feel better-"

"I don't think this conversation should be held off for seven and a half more months." Reagan states evenly turning to face away from him.

"What?" Brett asked in confused tone. "I know this conversation is gonna be hard, but why would we wait seven and a half months to-"

"I didn't take the fucking plan B, okay!" Reagan admits as she nervously begins to pace back and forth in the bathroom. "I know, I said I would but after you left I started thinking about it again...and I don't know maybe I was still a bit tipsy because I didn't take it! And I don't know maybe this is my sick twisted way of getting revenge on Rand because-"

"Didn't take the plan B?" Brett repeats back in a whisper, as Reagan continued to nervously pace back and forth while she continued to rant. Meanwhile Brett was processing this new bit of info, Reagan just told him she hadn't actually taken the plan B like she said she would. He had just caught Reagan throwing up her lunch but she claimed that she wasn't sick...and Reagan had been refusing to go out drinking with 'the gang' for the past few weeks! "I'm gonna be a dad!" Brett shouted excitedly, he ran up to Reagan and pulled her into a hug stopping her mid-rant. "I'm gonna be a D.A.D. DAD!" Brett shouts excitedly as he spins her around a bit. "I can't wait to tell 'the gang' and I bet now Big Foot will finally give me that high five!"

"Wait, Brett slow down you can't...I mean I don't even know-" Reagan tries to slow down his enthusiasm, which was like trying to convince a dog to stop wagging their tail.

"Goodness though, we're a month behind putting away money for college or finding a good daycare center!" Brett begins to panic a bit as he sets Reagan back down. "Wait does Cognitio Inc, have a daycare center? I mean they have to right? Since there's no maternity leave here? And it would be good if our baby gets to interact with a diverse group of people and creatures, plus we'll be able to check up on our little one during work hours!"

"Wait a second Brett, you're getting a head of yourself!" Reagan cuts in much to Brett's confusion. "I don't even know for sure if I'm pregnant!"

"But...but you said that you didn't take the plan B and and throwing and and no drinking means Brett's DAD!" Brett feels as if he's going through an emotional rollercoaster as he tries to make sense of everything. "I mean Brett is going to be a dad right?"

"Maybe...I don't know...I haven't seen a doctor...or taken a pregnancy test." Reagan admits shamefully facing away from him again.

"Why not?" Brett finally asked.

"I don't know...confirming it would make it fucking real and-" Reagan shrugged sheepishly.

"I understand." Brett says in a supportive tone. There was no one in the office he understood more than Reagan, they shared a bond deeper than a lonely childhood. He had been inside her head so he knew what was going on in there. "I'm scared too."

"What if I mess up?" Reagan questions out loud fighting back tears. "What if I'm worse than-"

"We're not gonna be perfect Reagan." Brett interrupts her reaching out to pull her into another hug. "I mean how can we be we're a mess and we know it! But unlike them we're gonna still be kickass parents for the baby because that's what we want to be."

"Thanks Brett." Reagan says in a grateful tone laying her head on his shoulder as she wiped away some tears with the sleeve of her shirt. "You really know...you really know-" Reagan begins to say before she starts to turn green again. "You really got to lay off the Axe body spray!" Reagan pushed him away before running back into the bathroom to throw up whatever was left in her stomach.

"Dear diary, great news it turns out that Reagan didn't take the plan B after all! And there is a serious chance that she might be pregnant (fingers crossed), which means I'm gonna be a Dad after all!" Brett says excitedly into his tape recorder while Reagan is still in the bathroom. "I'll also have to get rid of all the Axe body spray for the next seven and a half months."

"Brett? I'm gonna need a new shirt." Reagan says weakly from inside the bathroom.

"On it!" Brett states rushing over to the cabinet that he knew held some extra clothes for when Reagan worked late on projects. "Got to go diary, oh before I forget friendship status is back on track and-"

"Brett?" Reagan called out again. "Did you find a shirt yet?"

"Family sitcom status pending." Brett says quickly to his tape recorder before putting it away. "I got it Reagan!" Brett says as he gets her another cup of water and a paper towel as well.

A/N and that's the end of the second chapter! I hope you all enjoyed it.
