Chapter 18: Fighting a War God Wasn't on the Itinerary
Christina pulled Seastorm off of her wrist, letting it lengthen in her hand, as she pushed Nico and Bianca behind her. "You two stay back. You don't know how to fight yet and you don't have a weapon."
"Annabeth and I will watch them." Grover said, beckoning Nico and Bianca behind him. "You and Percy concentrate on defeating Ares."
Annabeth nodded. "We'll make sure they're safe."
Percy uncapped Riptide, letting it extend in his hand, and the two siblings turned to face Ares, shoulder to shoulder. Behind them, Annabeth and Grover stood protectively in front of the Di Angelo siblings, Grover with his reed pipes and Annabeth with her dagger. Above them the three Furies circled, having appeared sometime after Ares had.
Ares stalked towards them, his spear dragging along the ground and his shield in his hand.
"Well, well, well what do we have here little godlings?" He chuckled. "You think you can beat me, the god of war?"
Christina frowned. "We can certainly try. Give us the helm back, Ares, and this will all be over."
"I'm afraid I can't do that." He cocked his head. "There's someone who needs it more. I truly thought the cursed shoes would get you, but apparently not."
Percy took a stance, ready to fight. "Then I guess we'll just have to fight you for it ourselves."
"Then you will die." Ares announced, charging foreword.
Christina swung her sword around, fainting to the side as Ares charges toward her and Percy, and scraping the side of the blade against his arm. The god bellowed in rage and he turned his attention on Christina, allowing Percy to stab him in the side.
"You're going to pay for that little godling." Ares bellowed. "I am the god of war. No one beats me."
Christina shrugged, blocking his strike with the side of her sword. "Maybe we will be the first then. "
Ares growled, pressing his whole strength into his settings, seemingly done playing with them, and slowly pushing them closer and closer to the sea. Christina glanced at her brother, the same thought going through both of their heads and they let Ares continue, only blocking enough strikes to avoid getting skewered.
"See, you're no match for me!" Ares boasted, the water lapping gently against his ankle. "I am the Mighty Ares, God of War! You can't beat me!"
Percy smirked. "That's where you're wrong Ares. Or did you not forget who our father is?"
As if on cue, the siblings raised their hands, the water behind them rising in tandem, and they dropped them, sending the full might of the ocean crashing towards Ares. The god's eyes widened, before the water slammed into him, sending him flying backwards and crashing into the sand.
"That's why you don't challenge the children of the sea in their own turf." Christina commented, standing up.
Behind them on the hill overlooking the beach, mortal cops appeared with their guns drawn.
"Stand down." One yelled. "Lower your weapons and step away from the children."
Ares glanced back at the mortals, before dissolving into nothing, leaving behind a bronze helmet. Alecto swooped down from above, grabbing the helmet from the sand and nodding to the demigods, before joining her sisters in the sky and disappearing, moments before the cops reached the beach.
"Are you okay?" The head cop asked, looking at each of them. "Did he hurt you?"
Christina shakily shook her head. "We're a little shaken up, but we'll be fine."
"Let's get you home to your parents." The cop told them. "But would one of you be able to talk to us about what happened?"
Percy nodded. "I'll do it."
As Percy went off to talk to the cops, as well as the team of news reporters who had gathered there, Christina sat down on the sand with Grover, Annabeth, Bianca, and Nico, the latter two wrapped up in a blanket they had been given.
"It's over." Annabeth commented numbly, staring at the ground. "We did it."
Christina nodded, staring off into the ocean. "We still have to get the bolt to Zeus." She turned back to the others. "Percy and I will take it. It's only right that we return it, since we're the ones Zeus really blamed, even if he never named me."
"But you only have three days." Grover pointed out. "How are you going to make it across the country in that time?"
Christina grinned. "We'll fly. Zeus wouldn't dare shoot out of the sky when we have his precious lightning bolt."
"What about us?" Nico asked, sounding small. "What will we do?"
"I think I know of a way to get the rest of you back to Camp Half-Blood." Christina commented, once more staring out into the ocean.
Just then, Percy came running across the sand to them. "It's over." He announced. "We've done it. And I think I have the funds to get us back across the country."
"What did you do?" Christina asked hesitantly. "I don't think I like that sentence."
Percy smiled innocently. "I may have played traumatized child for the reporters and told everyone to call my stepfather's store for a free appliance. It's the best I could do after such a terrible experience."
"You're ridiculous." Christina commented, smiling slightly. "But if we have the funds, you and I have a plane to catch, after I send everyone else back to camp."
The others watched her curiously as she stood up and walked over to the ocean, before putting her fingers to her lips and whistling sharply. After a few seconds, four hippocampi breached the surface, including one with multicolored scales and hair.
"Your chariots await." Christina said, turning back to the flabbergasted demigods.
Annabeth shrugged. "Well, let's go. No time like the present."
The others got onto their hippocampi, waving one last time before disappearing across the water, and Percy and Christina set back up the hill, towards where the taxi to take them to the airport stood waiting.
PJO TRAILER LET'S GO!
And I know it's going to be a while before the show comes out, but when it does, this series will be based on the book canon only. I have plans to make it through Trials of Apollo, so it will take a while for this to be finished. I don't know what changes Rick will make in the series, but I know he has already planned new scenes and unless they expand on existing characters' backstories, they will not be included.
Also disclaimer before I get any comments, this has absolutely nothing to do with the casting. I am so incredibly excited for this cast and I am glad that young black girls get to see themselves in Annabeth now. I'm excited for Grover, Percy, Clarisse, and all the others as well, I've just mainly seen hate directly towards Leah, which is why I specifically mentioned her. This only has to do with any new scenes or information that is only in the series and not the books.
Please review. I love reviews.
