The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 265.

When he was a teenager, Cal often spent his weekends lying in bed, well, that was until his mum Matilda come up to his room and whipped his duvet off him and now he was back in bed with a cold: His head was banging, he had a sore throat, not even the soother sweets he had brought were helping him. He groaned as he sat up, carefully swinging his legs over the side of the bed and used his hands to raise himself up from the bed, but as he did he felt a wave of dizziness go over him, it soon passed and he headed out of the flat, down the building stairs to his car. He unlocked it with his keys and got inside, putting on his seatbelt. He started the engine and drove away from the flat, heading towards the ED, but when, another wave of dizziness hit him, he lost control of his car and it hit a tree, Cal blacked out, hitting his head on the steering wheel.

A passenger by saw the car and rang for an ambulance.

"3006 to Holby Control" Iain spoke in to his radio. "Go Ahead. "

"Pile up, car vs tree, outside the hospital. "

"Received and over, " Iain spoke.

"Come on Jez, we have a shout, " Iain told his colleague, as they headed to the Ambulance Bay.

When the two paramedics reached the scene of the accident, emergency services were already there, pulling the Casualty out of the car.

"Paramedics" Iain called, walking through the small crowd of people that had gathered.

"Cal" Iain said as he realised who it was. Jez and Iain got the stretcher out of the ambulance. Cal was logged rolled on to the board and a blanket was placed over him as he was strapped down and wheeled in to the ambulance.

Cal woke up in the ambulance. "What? Iain?" He asked, a bit disorientated.

"You were involved in an accident, Cal" Iain told him. Cal nodded, although it hurt his neck, even through he was in a neck brace. The ambulance arrived at the bay and Iain pulled open the back doors as the stretcher was lowered down.

"This is Caleb Knight, 32, involved in a RTC. BP 90/ 30. GSC is 13." Iain said as some of their colleagues looked up.

Iain wheeled him in to cubicles. Jess soon followed after putting on a pair of gloves, to clean up the wounds on his hands, Cal winced.

"Sorry, " Jess apologised as she bandaged them up.

Ethan had been informed that his brother was in the hospital. He headed in to cubicles.

Ethan sighed as he realised it was not his brothers fault.

The doctor, who had been treating Cal, alongside Jessica, come in. "Caleb, you shouldn't have been driving, "

"Why were you driving, Cal?" Ethan said, he was a tiny bit angry.

"I wanted to pick you up after your shift, " Cal whispered, it wasn't often that he did anything nice for him and he wanted to do it.

Ethan hugged his brother, whispering to him. "It's OK, Cal. It's OK"

But he was surprised to see when he tried to let go, Cal was holding on to him, just that bit tighter. Ethan rubbed his back, reassuringly as the doctor told him, he could leave, providing there was someone to look after him.

Ethan nodded at the doctor. "I will."

Satisfied, the doctor signed Cal's discharge papers as did he and then the doctor let him go, telling him to return if he felt any sickness come on, headaches, and to change his bandages every couple of days. Cal nodded, there had been times when he had said that to patients he had treated.

Ethan signed them both out and put an arm around him, as he led him to the car, opened it, helped Cal on with his belt as both of his hands were banged up. He got in to the drivers seat and belted up as he started the car, driving to their flat. He parked in the parking space and helped Cal out, and they headed through the double doors and up the stairs. Unlocking the door, he collected the mail, there was a letter from their insurance, as Cal had forgotten to renew it, they wouldn't pay out. Ethan sighed, they needed that car.

"Ethan?" Cal whispered.

Ethan smiled at his brother. "Yes, Cal?"

"Thank you, " Cal whispered as he looked at his brother, it was true he used to take advantage of Ethan, but he wasn't going to do that anymore as he appreciated everything that he did.

Ethan grinned, as he walked in to the kitchen, sitting down at the table as he looked at the letter. Even though, they both liked to walk to work, it wouldn't be possible when the weather got colder and the two had to wrap up warm.

Cal had thrown up.

Ethan walked in. Cal was looking apologetically at him as he watched him get on his hands and knees, soon he wouldn't be able to. He sprayed some substance on the floor and scrubbed on it, with a sponge, while Cal watched him, taking a sip of his drink. Ethan got up, walked in to the kitchen, and put the bucket and sponge in the sink as he joined Cal, who was watching a football match on TV, he was getting annoyed when the opposite team scored.

Cal winced.

"Are you ok?" Ethan asked.

Cal grimaced in pain as Ethan got him some painkillers and propped some pillows up behind him, as they both watched a documentary.
