Sorry for the delay in updating, I've had no inspiration for Casualty lately. I will also be re- writing some chapters, Cal and Alicia's ice ordeal is 1st on my list.
Cal is 6 years younger than Ethan, he's also shorter, Ethan doesn't have the gene.
This chapter was prompted by Meg with the prompt: Cal collapses at work, will Ethan offer him comfort?
bronny9: Thank you for the review.
Meg: Thank you for the review. Thank you for saying I'm a good writer, that means a lot. Here is the chapter.
The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 290
Cal was lay in bed, as he had a chesty cough, which was bringing up phlegm for him, which he coughed in to tissues. He also had a temperature and his nose was red and itchy. He knew he couldn't let the team down, so with what seemed like a big effort, he dragged himself from his bed to the bathroom and turned on the shower, hoping it would help bring his temperature down.
After a shower, he got dressed and headed to work, taking it slowly as with every step he took, it felt like the phlegm was going to come back up. But finally, he reached the ED. He walked inside as Connie told him off for being late.
"Sorry, Mrs Beauchamp. " He apologised.
"Yes, well, get to work. "
Cal's first case was in cubicles, treating a young boy, then he was in RESUS, with a female patient, who was in respiratory distress from smoking for years. Suddenly, the monitor started going off and despite, performing CPR, she passed away.
He could see colleagues talking in whispers, and in a moment of madness, he thought they were talking about him. The thought sent a wave of dizziness to go over him and he hit the floor with a thud as voices spoke above him.
"Get a stretcher. " Charlie said.
As Charlie, Iain and Jez lifted the doctor on to the stretcher and the doors to RESUS were opened, as he was wheeled over to the bed and slid across. Charlie put am oxygen mask over his face and he tried to put a pulse oximeter on his finger, but he wouldn't let him.
"Do you want me to phone Ethan?" Charlie asked.
"It's his day off Charlie, " Cal said weakly, leaning back against the pillows. "He wants to go for a run"
"Right. " Said Charlie as he left RESUS. He knew that Cal wanted him there, and was only saying "no" as he wanted to appear brave, so he went in to the staff room and opened his locker, before grabbing his phone and scrolling through his contacts.
"Hello. " Ethan sounded breathless as he answered his phone.
"Ethan, it's Charlie, " The older man told him.
"Yes?" Ethan asked, wondering why Charlie was ringing.
"It's Cal, he's collapsed. "
"I'll be there. " Ethan promised as he closed his phone and started to jog back out of the park. He stopped by their flat and packed a bag of things Cal would need.
"Are you ok?" Ethan asked Cal.
Cal gripped on to Ethan tighter. "C-Cold "
Ethan picked up the blanket from the end of the bed and wrapped it around him.
Charlie got Cal's discharge papers and he signed them as they left RESUS, heading home. Ethan unlocked the door and gently guided Cal in to the living room while he walked in to the kitchen to start making Cal's favourite dinner.
"Thanks Nibbles. " Said Cal as he balanced the tray on his knee
Ethan kissed Cal on the top of his head as he got a selection of DVD's from the corner of the room and Cal pointed to the one that he wanted them to watch. He then got Cal's blanket from his room and put it over him. Cal whimpered as Ethan soothed him.
Sorry, for the short length, but at least it is something after not updating for a while, thanks for reading and I hope this is what Meg wanted.
Next chapter: Alicia is nasty to Cal. Prompted by Ffion, I've already started it, so I'm hoping it shouldn't be too long.
