This story will last a few chapters, not sure how many yet though.

This story was prompted by sweet - as - honey with the prompt: "What do the Holby team think when Jessica starts acting strangely, will they figure out what's going on?"

Jessica's kids are 10 and 12.

Ethan has the gene.

The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 297.

Zoe Hanna had only been back at the ED for a few months, when Charlie asked her for a word. Michigan hadn't worked out for her, so she decided to return to the only place she had called home.

"Sure Charlie. " Zoe answered and followed the older nurse to his office where she took a seat. "What's going on?" She asked, staff members were only called in to the Nurses office when something serious had happened.

"Jessica's on her way back, " Charlie told her.

"Why?" Zoe asked, as far as she knew America was going well for her friend. She had a job as a nurse, her children were happy, they had friends, but deep down, she felt lonely, going back to an empty house, with only the TV for company and her thoughts once the kids had gone to bed.

"America hasn't worked out, " Charlie informed her as she nodded, intending on sending her friend a text, before she left the office.

Jessica was glad to be back on ground, she knew. It had been several years, since she was here last and she was worried how people would react to seeing her again. She stared up at the building before pushing open the doors and wheeling her luggage behind her.

"Jess!" Zoe exclaimed, delighted to see her old friend again,

Jessica smiled as Zoe spoke. "Do you fancy a coffee and a catch up?"

Jessica hunched her shoulders. "Could you show me around?"

Zoe frowned, "Everything's basically the same. "

"Please Zoe?" Jessica asked.

Zoe nodded. "I felt a bit strange on my first day back and I've only been back for about a year. "

Jessica nodded as Zoe showed her in to RESUS, which was currently empty. Next, she showed her to the staff room, when two males entered, one was dressed in dark blue scrubs and another was in green scrubs.

"That's Ethan Hardy and Caleb Knight, they are brothers. " Zoe explained. "They both love Alicia Monroe. "

"Why do they hate each other?" Zoe was surprised Jessica had came straight out and said that.

"It's complicated. " Zoe replied, as they headed out to the corridor. "That's Alicia. "

Jessica looked Alicia up and down. With her hair dyed pink and her nose stud, she looked trashy.

"She doesn't seem to care about her patients or her work. "

"I can't argue with that, " Zoe sighed.

Both women stopped chatting at the sound of Cal and Ethan arguing.

"Your not enough for her Ethan. " Cal said. "She needs a real man. "

"Oh, and that's you, is it Caleb?" Ethan shot back

"I'll knock some sense in to them, " Jessica said.

Zoe watched as she walked over to the boys.

"Cal, Ethan. " She called, as the boys looked at her, frowning wondering who this was.

"I'm Jessica, I work here, " The boys nodded at her.

"Life is too short to argue, you guys need each other. "

"Sorry, " Ethan mumbled and Zoe watched as Jessica walked back over to her, smirking.

"Good work, " Zoe praised her.

"Thanks, " Jess said.

"Do you fancy a coffee?" Zoe repeated her earlier question.

"I'm exhausted Zoe. "

"Course. " Zoe smiled, but she was dissopointed, she had been looking forward to catching up with her old friend. She went to the staff room to grab her bag out of her locker and went outside for a ciggie as she watched Jessica get in to a taxi.

She was renting a flat on Farmead, until she got herself sorted and when the taxi pulled up she paid, got out and unlocked the door and walked inside, leaving her luggage by the door and walking in to the living room and curling up on the couch.

On the other side of town, Zoe pondered on the days events as she unlocked the door to her apartment and took off her heels, pouring herself a glass of wine. Jessica hadn't seemed herself, but then, she reasoned, her flight would have been long and she was probably tired. She sat on the couch and took a sip of her drink before she switched on her TV and got ready for work the next day.
