This chapter was prompted by (guest) Jenny, with the prompt: "I've been watching a bunch of Cal episodes, recently, he was never really my favourite, but now he's gone, I miss him, can you do one where Cal gets anxious when Ethan leaves? Here it is, sorry it took so long.
Bronny9: Thank you for the review, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 310.
Cal Knight had it all: a beautiful baby girl, a decent younger brother and a good group of mates at work, who he could have a laugh with, but it was sad at how quickly it could all be taken away. One day a knock on the door, startled him as he wasn't expecting anyone, Ethan was in work, so picking Matilda up off the floor, he walked towards the front door, unlocking it to see a woman he hadn't seen before, but before he had a chance to speak, the woman spoke
"Are you Caleb Knight?" She asked.
Cal nodded his head, wondering what this woman wanted with him. He let her in and it was then he realised his life was going to change.
Ethan returned from his shift, surprised to find the small flat in darkness. "Where's Matilda?"
"Gone"
"Gone?" Ethan questioned.
"Yeah, Ethan, gone!" Cal repeated, loudly, wishing he didn't have to go through this again.
"Why?" Ethan asked.
"someone put in a complaint at how I was with her so the social have took her off me while they investigate "
"Did they say who?" Ethan asked.
Cal shook his head. "They said it was confidential. "
"That's the same for us as doctors" Ethan said. Cal simply nodded and Ethan was saddened to see his brother upset and made a promise to himself: that he was never going to let his brother down.
Cal looked up at Ethan. "Promise you'll never leave me, Nibbles?"
Ethan smiled. "I promise. "
But that was a promise Ethan found himself breaking. Connie had announced a new doctor was joining the team, she was female, experienced and wanted to further herself in her career.
Connoe called the team around the nurses station. "Listen up, we have a new doctor joining us today. This is Alicia Monroe"
"Hiya" Alicia said, excitedly, waving. Alicia's first day found herself in cubicles with Ethan.
"He's cute" Alicia thought to herself as she passed by Ethan, pretending to drop a pile of patient notes
"Here, let me help" Ethan offered, bending down to scope the notes in to his arms. Impressed with the way, he'd helped her, Alicia asked him out.
"Sure" Ethan replied, forgetting the evening plans he'd made with Cal. He'd taken her to the Hope and Anchor, she'd brought a wine, him an orange juice. After dropping her off at home, he went himself.
"Alright Cal?" Ethan asked, placing his keys down. His brother was sat in the living room, his feet up on the coffee table, something which Ethan had often told him off for.
"We were supposed to be going for a drink" Cal said, he was dissopointed in his brother.
"Yes, Cal, I know, I'm sorry" Ethan apologised.
Cal locked himself in his room, as he looked at the picture of Matilda on his phone screen. This little human had been the making of him and now he had her taking off him, now it seemed he was loosing his brother.
Suddenly, it felt as if Cal couldn't breath, he was gasping for breath, his chest felt tight, he had a headache,
Cal suddenly slumped to the floor.
Ethan went to check on Cal and had found him lying on the floor.
"Cal. " He yelled, calling for an ambulance.
Cal was now lying in RESUS on a bed, an oxygen mask on his face, to help him breath a bit easier.
"It seems you had a panic attack Cal, " Zoe informed him.
Ethan felt like Cal's attack had been his fault. Once Zoe had left RESUS, Ethan spoke his hand finding his brothers,
"I'm sorry I've been neglecting you, Cal. "
"I feel like I'm loosing everyone. Mum's dead, you and Alicia are dating and Matilda's been taken away" Cal whispered, sadly.
"Cal, you haven't lost me. " Ethan said, still holding his hand. "No matter what happens, I'll always be your brother"
"Really" Cal asked.
"Really " Ethan repeated. "Why don't we go home and watch that new movie you wanted to?"
Cal nodded as Zoe walked back in, holding a bunch of papers. Cal's discharge papers. Picking up the pen, Cal scribbled his name, listening to Zoe as she talked about what to do if he felt another attack coming on.
Leaning on Ethan as the two of them left resus, Ethan drove them home and when they'd battled the stairs to their top floor flat, Cal choose a dvd and Ethan got the popcorn ready and once it had "dinged" in the microwave, he took it through to the living room, and the two of them laughed the night away, Ethan making a private vow to himself: "He'll never let Cal down again. Brothers come before girls.
Thanks for reading, I hope this is what Jenny wanted, sorry if it isn't, sorry it's quite short, I just wanted something up. Have a feeling this next prompt might take a little bit longer.
