Contains spoilers from last night's episode, as well as the dialogue. This is basically a re - write of last night's episode, but instead of the interaction between Ethan and Alicia, it's between Ethan and Cal, who is alive and older than Ethan. I've basically changed Alicia's dialogue, so that Cal is speaking it instead.
Guest: (Bobby) Thank you for the review, I can do that for you. I'm just a little confused. Do you mean Cal, Ethan and Alicia go camping with equipment or to a conference with equipment?
Bronny9: Thank you for the review.
The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 316
Ethan was a bag of nerves as he left his flat that morning for his shift at work. It wasn't just any day for him. It was the day he was being interviewed for the consultant's job. He wished Cal was here, but Cal had already left work, but he'd left his brother a note on the kitchen table."Good luck, Nibbles. You'll smash it"
Ethan guessed that "Smashing it" Was Cal's version of "You'll do well" Still, he appreciated the thought. He tucked the note in to his pocket and continued on his jounery to work. It didn't take him long to reach the department and he took a deep breath before
Ethan looked around for Cal
"How are you feeling?" Cal asked when he
"Er, a little bit nervous nervous. More nervous. I don't feel nervous. Yes, I'm a little bit nervous. "
"Nerves are good, man, they show that you care"
"Hum, " Ethan said in doubt of himself.
"OK, biggest challenges facing the NHS today?"
"Er, ok, um, descrispy between funding and demand. "
"Um, hum. "
"Workforce crisis" Ethan continued. "And then social care, aging population, blah, blah, blah "
"Very good. Oh, you should open with blah, blah, blah. "
Both Cal and Ethan stopped when they saw an extremely ill looking Connie walk in to the department.
"She looks. What is she doing back at work. "
"That's what I was going to ask"
Ethan knocked on Connie's office door.
"Sorry, " Ethan apologised.
"Doctor Hardy, " Connie said. "What can I do for you?"
"Um, I thought, I wondered if we could clear the air?"
"You want to have a nice little talk"
"I think that would be a good idea "
"There will be plenty of time for a chat this afternoon ok, thank you "
"Right, "
"I brought up Connie's cancer" Ethan couldn't believe he'd done that. If he doubted before he was going to get the job, he's not going to get it now.
Ethan and Cal were in RESUS, the patient was female and had taken a tumble down some steps of the school where she worked. "It's not a condolence that she's here on the day of my consultant interview"
Ethan was sat on the chairs outside the room, where the interview was taken place.
"We are ready for you. "
Ethan stood, "Right, thank you" He said, walking in, and was horrified to see Connie sat there, he wasn't aware she was going to be interviewing him.
"Doctor Hardy, take a seat, please" She said.
After taking his seat, on the opposite side of the panel, he said "Hello, "
"If you could tell us in your own words why you feel your fit too be a consultant " Connie staid, starting the interview.
"Which is why I believe it's important to keep those lines of communication open and um, transparent. " Ethan said.
"Thank you. " Said the man, sitting on Connie's left side.
"OK, can you now give us an example of a difficult case that you dealt with successfully?" Asked Connie. "When your ready, Doctor Hardy?" She said, noticing he wasn't saying much.
Ethan spoke. "Yes, um, of course. " He cleared his throat. "Recently, I made a cancer diagnose and I helped the patient throughout the course of their treatment. It was difficult because the patient was hiding their diagnose from friends and family. Work colleague's, But I persisted, and I believe I went far beyond the call of duty in order to help and I'm happy to say they are doing well now."
"Really" Said Connie.
"Yes. And I'd still be there for them if they needed me" Ethan finished.
""You could have boundry issues, do you often have trouble separating yourself from your patients"
"I believe it's the job of a doctor, a good doctor anyway, to go above and beyond in certain cases. If the job calls for it. And I wouldn't hesitate to do it again "
Ethan left the interview room, as his interview came to an end, shaking the interviewers hands and not daring to look Connie in the eye.
"You don't know for sure it's bad news" Cal commented.
"It was awful. Really, really awful. "
"It might not have gone as bad as you think. " Cal tried to reassure him.
I brought up Mrs Beauchamp's cancer" Ethan couldn't believe he'd done that. If he doubted before he was going to get the job, he's not going to get it now.
Cal pulled a face.
"Yeah" Ethan said.
Cal handed his brother the coffee he was planning to drink.
"Thank you. " Said Ethan, he could really do with a coffee. He took off the lid and took a sip and then headed back to RESUS, wanting to forget about his interview. He left RESUS, once a porter arrived to take his patient to surgery.
Seeing Connie walk up the stairs, Ethan decided to have it out with her. "You sabotaged that."
"Excuse me" Said Connie
"What you did today, that was inexcusable, I'm a good doctor an I care about my patients and I deserved a fair shot at consultant "
"You got it" Said Connie.
"No, I didn't, I didn't. You sat there and you"
"You got it. " Connie repeated,
"What do you mean?" Ethan asked.
"It was unanimous. " Connie replied. "The board will be in touch shortly. "
"What? I'm a consultant?" Ethan asked in disbelief.
"Congrulations. Doctor Hardy "
"I'm a consultant " Ethan said, doing a little victory dance, he was delighted his hard work had paid off.
"Hey. Pub? Sorrows? Drown?" Cal asked.
"I'm a consultant. " Ethan whispered.
"What? You got it?" Cal asked.
"I'm a consultant. "
"I'm happy for you, mate" Cal hugged his brother as they joined the rest of their colleagues in the pub.
