The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 335.
"Cal, come on. " Ethan was standing outside his brothers bedroom.
Ethan heard his brothers door being unlocked. "I'm ready, Ethan. " Said Cal.
It was full on in the ED, when the brothers arrived, patients were lying on stretchers in the corridor and cubicles were full. Ethan was needed in RESUS while Cal was needed in cubicles, both boys were busy, it was a relief when they could have a break.
Ethan was in line for the shop, he was in need of a coffee.
"Where's mine?" Cal teased his brother.
Ethan rolled his eyes at his brother. "Buy one yourself. "
Cal widened his eyes. "Please Ethan, "
"OK. " Ethan said, as he ordered another coffee. He decided to get two chocolate bars as well, they were in need of a treat. Cal unwrapped the wrapper and put it in his mouth.
Cal took a bit of the bar and suddenly his throat felt tight, it felt like it was closing. His breathing was shallow.
"Ethan, what's the matter?" Asked Elle as she passed him, her arms full of folders.
"I think he's going in to anaphlaxis shock, " Said Ethan. He had to stay calm and be professional, here.
Elle nodded. put down the folders (or rather shoving them in a passing nurses arms) and looked around for a stretcher so they could wheel him in to RESUS. Elle and Ethan lifted him on to the trolley, and wheeled him in to RESUS, moving him over on to the bed. Blood was taken.
When Cal come round, he had an oxygen mask around his face, an IV was in his arm, giving him fluids.
It turned out that the bar he had eaten had nuts in and he was allergic to them.
Dylan gave him a shot of adreline auto injector before Cal left the hospital, as that was supposed to stop the symptoms from flaring up again. Ethan helped his brother off the bed and asked Max to bring in a wheelchair in order to get him to the car.
Ethan drove Cal home as Cal was in no fit state to drive.
Ethan made them both a drink, when they returned home.
Anaphylaxis could be scary but Cal was glad that he had Ethan for support and he was glad of that. Cal put on a DVD and Ethan sat down beside him
