The Secret Life Of Casualty
Chapter 446.
Ethan woke in an empty flat as he realised what today was. A year ago today, his big brother slipped away on his own, scared for not only his life but his little brothers as well. Ethan lay in bed, turning to face his bedside table where a picture of him and Cal lay. He picked it up. "I miss, you, Cal. " He murmured, before placing it back down. He knew it was time to get ready for work, Cal wouldn't want him moping. He got out of bed, straightened the bed covers and headed in to the shower, turning it on. He stepped in and picked up the shampoo and conditioner and rubbed it in before washing it out. He stepped out, and grabbed the towel wrapping it around himself. He walked back in to the bedroom and opened his wardrobe and pulled out a pair of jeans and a shirt. He left the bedroom, and the flat, walking to work. It didn't take him long to reach the ED.
Ethan froze as he got nearer the spot where Cal got stabbed. He had visions of Cal clutching his hand, begging him not to let him die. A tear slide down his cheek as he realised he had failed him.
The flowers and teddies that had lain there in the days since the attack had been cleared away as environmental health claimed they were becoming a hazard. It made Ethan feel as if his colleagues didn't care about Cal any more. Of course, he knew that wasn't true.
"Are you ok?" Ethan looked around to see who was talking to him, it was Robyn.
"I'm fine, thanks, Robyn " He replied, quietly. She looked teary herself, Ethan noted. "Thinking about Glenn?" He asked.
"Yeah," she sniffed. "I'm worried Charlotte won't remember him"
"You can tell her about him when she grows up" Ethan replied, putting a friendly arm around her. The two of them walked back in to the ED.
Later on, near the end of the day, Ethan spotted Charlie lighting a candle. He was curious. Charlie placed the candle down by Cal's photo.
"See?" Charlie spoke. "We haven't forgot about Cal"
Ethan could see that as one by one, colleagues lit a candle for Cal (although Robyn lit an extra one for her deceased husband) He felt choked up by it as there was a lump in his throat. "Thank you guys," He said as he felt more tears well up in his eyes.
Charlie gave Ethan a "Man Hug"
