The Secret Life Of Casualty

Chapter 363.

Sam was on a day off, her first in a while, and had just been for a run and had, had a shower to cool off when the post landed on her mat. She made her way down the stairs, in a pair of leggings and a vest top. She scooped the mail in to her hands, and flicked through it. Bills, bills and what was this? It was an official looking letter, she opened it and unfolded the letter.

It was a visiting order. It was from Tom. Emotions ran through her mind. Did she visit the ex who shot her and left her bleeding on the floor? She decided that yes she was going to visit him. She knew it was better not to tell Jacob or Iain of her plans as she knew they would just try to talk her out of it and she needed to see him.

At lunch, she made herself a sandwich and then headed off to the prison. She locked the front door, getting in to the car and driving towards the prison.

"Samantha Nicholls, " She told the male guard on duty, when she reached the front of the long line.

The guard nodded, ticked her name off the clipboard he was holding and then searched her making sure that she didn't have anything on her that she shouldn't have. Once satisfied she didn't have anything on her, she was allowed in the building. Sam found this place depressing, she remembered when her and Tom came to visit, Peter, Tom's father, who had been in for robbery. She was pulled from her thoughts when Tom sat down on a solid chair in front of her.

"Sam"

"Tom" Sam returned the nod.

"Thanks for coming. " Said Tom, he looked downcast and wouldn't make eye contact with her, she kind of felt sorry for him, but then she remembered why he was in here.

"You shot me" She said, quietly, so the other prisoners wouldn't hear her.

"I know, " Tom nodded, finally making eye contact with her.

"Why Tom. "

"I don't know"

"That isn't good enough!" She raised her voice and some of the other prisoner's turned to stare at them both.

"I'm sorry Sam"

Sam glared at him, and unzipped her jacket, lifting up her vest top to reveal the plaster where they'd had to fit her with the ventilator. "You did that, Tom"

Tom nodded.

"I could have died, Tom"

Tom reached over to hold her hand, but a guard barked at them both "No touching" Sam didn't want to touch his hand anyway.

She'd made her mind up. "This is goodbye Tom"

And she turned, didn't look back at him and walked out, feeling lighter.
