This chapter was requested by Guest: Could I do something with Ruby and Ethan.
The Secret Life Of Casualty.
Chapter 410.
Gem laughed as she and Ruby walked in to the ED. "Seriously," said Gem.
"He's cute" said Ruby.
The person in question Ruby was talking about was, Ethan Hardy. She liked him, but he had been in a relationship woth Alicia, supporting her after her rape, but now Alicia was in Manchester, chasing her dreams, meaning that Ethan was free, but would he want to go on a date with her? The only way to find out was to ask him, but she had no experience in asking guys out. She was going to need Gem's help. Finding Gem in the staff room, her hands aroundba cup of tea, she walked in to the room, shutting the door quietly behind her.
"Gem?" Ruby asked.
Gem smiled at her friend and housemate. Ruby made her way over to the couch.
"I need advice " Ruby said, sitting down beside her.
"What about?" Gem asked.
"Ethan" Ruby said. "I want to ask him out and I don't know how to," Ruby said.
Gem had no experience in asking guys out either, considering she had been in prison, she had been lucky with Rash. She told Ruby she should have confidence.
"Ethan"
Ethan was in line to get a coffee on his break when Ruby tapped him on the shoulder.
"Ethan, hi" Ruby said, a small blush coming to her cheeks.
Ethan turned around to see who was talking and was surprised to see it was Ruby, they didn't really have anything in common, other than when she was handing over a patient to him in RESUS.
Ethan smiled shyly at the paramedic as he gave the money for his drink. "Hi, Ruby" He said, as he picked up the plastic cup and walked to RESUS when he was stopped by Ruby's voice.
"Ethan?" Ruby asked again.
Ethan looked at Ruby before looking at his watch, he only had a small amout of time to drink this coffee and get back to RESUS.
"would you like to go out?" She asked.
Ethan considered this: Alicia had been in Manchester for a few weeks now and even though they'd promised to keep in touch with each other, they'd hadn't and Ethan had to move on sometime, otherwise he would be stuck in limbo. He looked back at Ruby.
"OK. " He said. "That would be nice"
"See you later," said Ruby.
"Sure" replied Ethan, draining his coffee and getting back to work. Usually if he had a date, he'd turn to Cal for advice, but not this time, he had to be brave.
Heading home, he ran a shower and then headed to his room, opening his wardrobe, considering his clothes. After a quick look, he decided to go for a blue shirt and a pair of jeans.
Ruby wondered what to wear to a first date, so she called Gem in to her room and together they decided on a pair of jeans and a white shirt and as Ruby wasn't used to heels, they dug through Ruby's wardrobe and found a pair of heels with a low heel. Gem handed them to Ruby who sat on the bed and put them on. When she had strapped them up, she stood up and looked in the mirror. She went natural looking on the make up and borrowed a bag from Gem.
When she walked down the stairs, the doorbell rang. Ruby answered it.
"Hi, Ruby" Ethan said, kissing her cheek and then leading her to his car, holding the door open for her. He was taking her to the Hope and anchor for a drink, it seemed perfect.
Ethan found them a table and held the seat for Ruby.
"Thanks" Ruby smiled.
"What would you like to drink?"
Ethan carried the drinks, a white wine for Ruby and an orange juice for himself.
At the end of the night, Ethan walked Ruby home.
"How was it?" Gem asked, sitting in the living room with Rash.
"It was nice" Ruby said, heading to her room. Taking off her heels, she dug in her handbag, as she got a message from Ethan.
"Had a good night, tonight, Ruby"
Ruby replied that she had as well. With her secretly hoping it would lead to more.
Thanks for reading. I'm pretty happy with how this has turned out, considering I've never written Ruby or Gem before, so I hope they were characterised ok.
