Reading CasualtyLaura's Iain and Ruby story inspired me to write this.

For this chapter: Ruby and Iain aren't married, they don't have the twins and are just friends.

The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 520

"You ready, mate?" Dixie asked, it was the next morning after her and Iain had spent the evening in the Hope and Anchor and now Iain had just finished his last shift.

Iain swallowed the lump in his throat; he'd had some of the best times at the ED as well as the worst. He'd reconnected with Gem after her stint inside and made lifelong friends in Ruby and Jan, his thoughts were broke when Dixie spoke.

"Come on mate"

"I will, " Iain nodded, turning to face Ruby and Jan. "I guess this is it, then" He said.

Ruby had tears in her eyes, but she was determined not to let them fall. He hugged Ruby first, whispering in her ear. "Thank you, for everything Ruby"

"You'd do the same for me, " She replied as he released their hug.

Jan hugged him next. "Stay safe won't you?" He knew what she meant by that and he had no intention of taking his life again. Life was too short and he knew he was taking a risk by leaving the ED but he knew he wanted to try new things. Gem had and one of the first things he was going to do after HEM'S had ended was join her in Thailand. By the regular photos she had sent him, she was having a ball.

"I will, " He nodded.

Dixie had ordered a taxi and Iain got in. He waved until he could no longer see Jan and Ruby.
