The Secret Life Of Casualty.

Chapter 519

Ruby was resting in Jan's house, when she suddenly put her hands to her chest. To her, everything seemed blurry and out of focous.

"What's wrong, Ruby, love?" Jan asked, she'd taken the day off to be there for Ruby.

"Can-t br-eath" she stuttered.

Jan called an ambulance and Ruby was taken to the ED. She was taken to a cubicle and given oxygen, while Robyn clipped a pulse oximeter to her finger.

"Ruby, there's someone here to see you, " Robyn smiled.

Jan and Ruby looked at each other, as Robyn left the cubicle until the person who wanted to see Ruby walked in.

"Hey mate"

"Iain" Ruby said, smiling, delighted to see her old mate even though he'd only been gone from the ED for a few weeks. "I thought you were with HEM's?"

"Jan told me you'd collasped. " Iain said, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"It was just a panic attack. " Ruby dismissed her former colleagues concerns.

"You need to take care of yourself Ruby" Iain said and with a pang in her chest, Ruby realised she had said that to Iain shortly after he'd tried to take his life.

Ruby nodded, a lone tear falling down her cheek, Iain used his finger to wipe it away. "Don't cry, Ruby" He told her.

Ruby sniffed as Jan handed her a tissue and then left the two of them to catch up.

"When Jan returned, a few hours later, from completing paperwork, she found Ruby's head, resting on Iain's chest, his arm around her waist.
