I'm sorry it's been a while since the last update, I accidentally spilled Pepsi over my laptop, and I brought a new one, which is what I'm writing on at the moment. I'm also sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes, I don't have a spell checker. I've also decided that this small story will have 5 chapters to it, instead of 4. There is a drug mentioned in this chapter that I hadn't heard about, until I researched and don't know that much about it, so sorry if the does is wrong.

khatrixnoble: Thank you for the review, the chapter did end on a cliff- hanger, I like them.

The Secret Life Of Casualty

Chapter 636.

Seeing the corridor deserted, Marcus slowly decided to excute his plan. Looking under his parka jacket where the bomb was strapped to his body, all he had to do was push a button and the ED, would be no more.

There was a rattle as the ED lights flickered on and off, before going out completely, then there was a bang, throwing ED members about. Panic kicked in, as some ran for the doors.

Connie landed on the floor, Charlie too. She stood up, dusted herself off.

"Let's move the patients who can walk outside, please Charlie. " Connie instructed, she, along with Charlie Max, Zoe and Robyn were unharmed, if a little dusty. She looked around: strong flames were everywhere. People were crying out, in confusion and panic.

"On it. " Charlie nodded, heading to cubicles where patients with minor injuires were resting or waiting on discharge. "This way, please."

Cal had been standing at the nurses station, looking for Ethan and signing Marcus's disacharge papers, looked up, only for the roof ceiling to come down on him, trapping his body to the floor with a beam. Connie crouched down next to him. "Cal, we'll get this off you, as soon as we can OK?"

"Thanks Mrs B" Cal said, weakly, coughing. Connie walked off to try to help others.

Jessica had been in the staff - room when the bomb had gone off, she'd been thrown against the lockers, which had then fallen on top of her, trapping her arms and legs.

"Jess, are you alright?" Cal asked, the staff room and Nurses Station were away from each other, but as the explosion had been strong enough to rip off the staff room door, the doctor and Nurse were able to see each other.

"I'm trapped, Cal " Jessica replied, fear in her voice.

"Yeah, so am I," Cal replied, Ethan had taught him to help others and he wanted to help Jess, but how could he, when he was trapped himself?

Ethan was at home, unpacking the shopping. Finished unpacking, he headed in to the living room, and put the TV on, they were showing Oliver Twist. Ethan sat down on the show, with a glass of juice to enjoy his show with, before getting ready for his shift that afternoon.

He was just at the scene where Fagin was trying to sell Oliver when a news report popped up.

"We interrupt this program to bring you some news, this lunch hour. Holby ED has been rocked by an explosion. Two members of staff are currently trapped. We will keep you updated on this development as we get more news. "

Two members of staff. An uneasy feeling came over Ethan and he grabbed at his phone, which had been charging on the coffee table. His heart pounding, he dialled Cal's number. "Pick up, Cal. " Ethan muttered, pacing around the living room, but he heard his brother's voicemail.

"Hi, this is Cal. I can't answer your call as I'm either working or chatting up women. "

Ethan froze. It wasn't unusual for Cal not to answer his phone, Ethan hoped he'd left it in his locker, or the staff room. He grabbed his keys off the hook in the hallway and was out the door, locking up, rushing down the building stairs. He hurried in to his car, his hand shaking as he tried to put the keys in the iginition.

Ethan arrived at the ED, only to be told: "Sorry, sir, the ED, is unsafe, you can't go in there. " Ethan looked up to see who was talking to him, it was a firefighter.

"My brother's in there" Ethan said. "I need to go in there, I'm about to start my shift"

"I understand, sir, but we can't risk anyone else getting hurt" Mike, the firefighter, told him.

"I know how you feel, Ethan." Adam said, appearing beside the younger man. "Jess is in there too. "

"It's not the same," Ethan shrugged. "Cal's my brother"

"Jess is my wife," Adam replied. "She's important to me, just as Cal is to you. "

"Guys," Both men looked up as Zoe walked over to them, crushing her ciggie under her heel as she did. "Arguing isn't going to help Cal or Jess. "

"Your right, Zoe" Adam said. "Sorry, Ethan." he added, turning to the younger man. "I've lost Harry, I can't lose Jess too. "

"That's alright," Ethan nodded, he'd heard about what had happened on their wedding day. Both men were worried about their loved ones, wondering when they were going to be pulled out of the wreckage first.

Soon, a stretcher was brought out. The victim was covered in dust and coughing in to an oxygen mask, but Ethan could tell it was Cal. Relief flooded through him.

"Cal. " Ethan said, relieved, when he saw his brother be brought out on a makeshift stretcher. Cal tried to remove his oxygen mask that a paramedic had put on him, and an IV drip was in his wrist, giving him morphine as they worked to lift the beam off him, he had groaned in pain.

Because the ED was deemed unsafe, Cal and Jessica were transferred to St. James, with ambulances waiting for them.

"This is Caleb Knight, 31, involved - in an explosion at 10:30 this morning. " Ethan said, switching in to doctor mode. "He's dislocated his-arm and has possible internal bleeding from the beam falling on to him. His BP is low. He was given morphine at the scene."

"This is Jessica Harrison, 46, involved-in an explosion at 10:30 this morning. " Adam said, while walking alongside the stretcher his wife was lying on, an oxygen mask on her face. "She was found trapped under a locker in the staff- room, she has cuts and bruises to her face, which look to be superficial, and a dislocated right elbow and leg. "

"Right, let's get them both in to RESUS," Zoe said, despite not working at St. James, she wanted to oversee the care of her friends and colleagues. "Let's get Cal on to bed 2 and Jessica on bed 3. "

Ethan helped pull Cal on to the bed, while Adam helped pull Jess on to the bed, attaching pulse oximeters and IV drips, to both patients. Cal also had ECG wires attached to him, checking his heart rate.

Charlie, Connie and Elle treated Cal, who vomited in to a kidney dish. Ethan rubbed his back, trying to comfort him.

"I feel dizzy" he said, the unfamilar RESUS room felt like it was spinning.

"It could be a delayed reaction. " Said Connie, looking in to his eyes, with her pen - light. Turning to Elle, she said. "Let's book a CT "

Elle nodded and soon, Cal was on his way to CT.

Connie studied the images of Cal's brain as Ethan sat beside his bed, holding his hand. Cal's grip on hiss brothers hand had loosened and his body had began to jerk, he was having a seizure.

"Ethan, stand back. " Connie said. "Elle, draw me up 10 mills of phenobritial. "

Elle handed Connie the needle and she injected it in to Cal's arm. Slowly, the seizing stopped and Ethan stroked Cal's hair.

Zoe was at Jessica's bedside, with Adam, who was holding her hand.

"I'm going to relocate your elbow now, Jessica, but without angalisa, I don't need to tell you how painful that's going to be. " Zoe told her.

"I know," Jessica replied, having broken her elbow before when she had been pregnant with hers and Adam's baby, after falling down the stairs.

Zoe took Jessica's elbow in to her arm, after taking it out the frac - pac and pulling it until she heard the click of the bone, Jessica screamed in pain.

"There's something else, Jess" Zoe told her.

"What?" Adam asked.

"Your pregnant. Congratlons" Zoe replied.

"How?" Adam asked.

"I think you know how, mate" Zoe replied, with a laugh. "I'll give you a minute and then I'll scan the baby"

"OK" Jessica replied. She wasn't sure how she didn't know she was pregnant, with Lucas, Amelia and then, baby Harry, she had known she was pregnant, before she had taken the tests.

Zoe asked Jess to lift her scrub top up, and then squirted gel on her small bump. She winced. "Sorry," Zoe apologised. "I know this can be cold. "

Putting the Doppler, on to her stomach, Zoe moved it around until a "thump, thump" could be heard, a stray tear fell down her cheek.

Adam wiped it away, kissing the top of her head, knowing her pregnancy would bring back memories of Harry's death.

"The baby seems healthy, you look to be 4 months along. " Zoe informed her.

Adam nodded. "Thanks Zoe. "

Jessica was given crutches and pain killers for her leg, but was allowed to go home for the night, while Cal was moved to a side room, so that he could be more comfortable.

Adam drove Jess home, to the house they shared, and settled her on the couch, with a blanket, before going to collect Lucas and Amelia from the child- minder.

Back at St. James: Ethan travelled in the lift with Max bringing Cal up as the porter in charge.

A knock on the door caused Ethan to look up.

"Mrs Beachaump. " He greeted.

She nodded. "Doctor Hardy. How is he?" She asked.

"I don't know, he hasn't said much. "

"He might still be in shock. It could be PTSD. " Connie said with knowledge in her voice, knowing that when her now 16 -year - old daughter Grace, had been involved in the helicopter crash, she had suffered from PTSD.

Ethan nodded. Charlie then come in, handing Ethan a coffee. "I thought you could do with this," he commented, Ethan took the drink, gratefully, it seems the coffee is the only thing that is going to get him through the night.
