"Teddy," Owen called while walking though the hospital Monday morning, "we should talk."
"We talked all day yesterday," Teddy replied.
"Saturday night," Owen whispered.
"Not here," Teddy replied.
"Somewhere private," Owen agreed.
They found a deserted on call room and locked the door.
"The other night," Owen said.
"Was not slow," Teddy replied, "but it was you and it felt right."
"It was amazing," Owen said, "we forgot to talk about something before."
"Small moment of panic about that," Teddy replied.
"You'll tell me if we have to worry," Owen asked.
"We were completely unprotected," Teddy admitted, "my appointment with OB is today to get on the pill."
"Do you want me," Owen asked.
"I can do this myself," Teddy replied.
"Teddy if we have anything to worry about you have to tell me," Owen said.
"We should be okay," Teddy said, "if it's not I promise you'll be the first to know. I'm 37 that's not young."
"Promise me Teddy if we have anything to worry about you won't run," Owen asked.
"I will let you know," Teddy said, "I'm here in Seattle to stay. I bought a house and am raising a teenager."
"Where do we fit," Owen asked.
"We're us," Teddy said, "together and figuring out how we're going to do this."
"Can I take you to dinner Friday," Owen asked.
"That would be good," Teddy replied, "what time?"
"Seven," Owen suggested.
"I can do that," Teddy smiled, "a real date?"
"A real date," Owen agreed.
"I'm looking forward to it," Teddy replied.
Owen was paged to the pit and Teddy made her way to her appointment. She explained the situation and was told it should be okay. She tucked her prescription in her pocket, she would fill it on her way home to somewhere not affiliated with the hospital.
"I'm Arizona Robbins," a perky blonde introduced herself, "peds."
"Teddy Altman Cardio," Teddy replied.
"Your new here," Arizona commented.
"I started about a month ago," Teddy replied.
"I've seen you around but we haven't been on the same cases yet," Arizona smiled.
"I've been focusing on the admin side," Teddy admitted, "getting to know the hospital and moving."
"Where are you moving from," Arizona asked.
"New York originally but I just did 7 years with the army as a field surgeon," Teddy replied.
"Our trauma guy Owen Hunt just left the army six months ago," Arizona replied.
"We served together, I know Owen well," Teddy replied, "have you worked here long?"
"About a year," Arizona replied, "if you're from New York why Seattle there must be lots of cardio jobs there."
"A few reasons," Teddy replied.
"Owen," Arizona asked.
"It's nice to have him but not the deciding factor," Teddy said.
"What was," Arizona asked.
"My 14 year old half sister," Teddy admitted.
"Half sister," Arizona pressed.
"Our dad passed a few years ago and Danika lost her mom in May," Teddy said, "so I have custody. Then the head of cardio job came up so I'm here."
"Department head meeting tomorrow," Arizona said, "are you ready?"
"Interrogate the new girl," Teddy replied, "I'm fine."
"Tell me about your sister," Arizona asked, "it's unusual."
"It is Danika and I are 23 years appart and I'm the most stable adult in her life. She's a good kid, ballerina and training at Parkridge. Shy and she loves her new kitten," Teddy listed.
"I've treated a few parkridge kids," Arizona said, "the staff seem okay and they have decent day to day medical care."
"That's on my list to get Danika in for a full work up," Teddy said, "I just don't have her full history and want to check everything out."
"I'll give you the name of a couple pediatricians that work with teens or I'm happy to," Arizona said.
"I don't want to take up your time," Teddy said, "a name and the name of a decent ENT would be good."
"ENT," Arizona asked, "why?"
"Danika has chronic ear infections in the file the school gave me. I want them stopped because that amount of antibiotics is not good for her," Teddy said.
"ENT you want Mark Sloan, he's head of plastics but double certified as an ENT and has done good work with a few of my patients," Arizona said.
"I met him," Teddy replied.
"Man candy," Arizona said.
"Not looking for anyone," Teddy replied.
"Boyfriend," Arizona asked, "husband?"
"Starting to see someone," Teddy replied, "it was hard to date in Iraq."
"It would be," Arizona agreed.
"Dr Altman," Christina approached, "incoming cardiac trauma."
"Don't let me beat you down there Yang," Teddy commanded, taking off at a run.
Finishing her trauma Teddy saw a text from Danika asking to go to a friend's house the next night.
Danika, "can I go to Heather's Friday?"
Teddy, "what time?"
Danika, "6:30 ish?"
Teddy, "I can drive you and will pick you up. Did Heather's mom say what time?"
Danika, "I don't think so."
Teddy, "it's a Friday so 10 or 10:30. Check with Heather's mom. Are you okay? What are you doing?"
Danika, "reading and playing with Milly."
Teddy, "I should be home in about an hour and a half. In an hour can you put two potatoes in the oven at 375. Poke them with a fork first."
Danika, "I will. What are we having?"
Teddy, "BBQ chicken, baked potatoes, green beans, peas and carrots."
Teddy was happy Danika got time with a friend and Teddy didn't feel bad leaving her home alone to go on a date.
"Dr Altman," Christina asked, "is everything okay?"
"Just checking in with a 14 year old," Teddy replied.
"You have kids," Christina said looking shocked.
"I have custody of my 14 year old sister," Teddy replied, "just making sure Danika is okay."
