"What's in it for me," Sloan asked as Mark pulled into the driveway and Teddy and Owens.
"Friends your own age," Mark said, "Teddy and Owen have a 15 year old, Danika and Richard and Adele have their nephew Patrick. Danika and Patrick go to the same school."
"So he stuck around." Sloan said.
"Teddy and Danika are sisters. Both of their parents have died and Owen and Teddy have custody of Danika."
"They stuck around," Sloan repeated.
"She did and he chose to be involved," Mark agreed, "get to know them."
Inside Danika was helping Teddy finish setting the table, "why is Mark coming?"
"He just had his 17 year old daughter move in with him," Teddy said, "you have to be nice to Sloan."
"Sloan Sloan really," Danika rolled her eyes.
"He said the girl's last name is Riley," Teddy replied, "the Webber's are coming."
"Good Patrick is coming," Danika said.
"In a couple weeks we have the attendings Christmas party at the Webber's," Teddy reminded, "you need a dress. We're going shopping for you and Allison tomorrow."
"I have to go," Danika asked.
"All the attendings kids go," Teddy said, "just hang out with Patrick."
"What is Christmas this year," Danika asked.
"Derek and Meredith have invited us for Christmas Eve at their place, similar morning to last year and dinner at my moms with Meghan and Nathan," Owen said.
"We had dinner at Evelyn's last year," Danika said, "do you think, she would be mad if I called her nana like she wants Allison to?"
"Try," Teddy said.
"I think she'd like it," Owen said, "she noticed you were wearing the hat and scarf she knit you when she picked you up from school yesterday."
"It's warm and cozy," Danika smiled.
"We need a Christmas list kiddo," Owen remixed as the doorbell rang.
Owen opened the door," hey mark. This must be Sloan."
"This is my daughter Sloan," Mark replied.
"I'm Owen," Owen said, "this is Teddy, Allison and Danika."
"It's nice to meet you," Teddy smiled, "come in."
Teddy led the way to the living room.
"I have some board games in the den," Danika offered, usually her and her friends played games in the den or on the landing when they had company.
"Good games," Sloan asked.
"Settlers, Carcassone, Apples to Apples," Danika said.
"You have scrabble, clue and monopoly," Teddy said.
"No video games," Sloan asked.
"No," Danika said.
"Your parents are surgeons and you don't have video games," Sloan snapped.
"I don't have them," Danika said, "I don't have time for them."
"How do you not have time," Sloan asked, "it's not like you have to get a job."
"School and dance, I babysit sometimes for Allison or Dr Bailey's son," Danika said, "where do you go to school?"
"Some lame private school Dad found for me," Sloan said, "I start Monday. Probably with you."
"Park Ridge Academy of classical Dance," Danika asked.
"Pacific Coast Prep," Sloan said, "I have to wear a uniform."
"I have a uniform," Danika said, "it's not too bad. Until my sister decides that everything has to be perfect and army levels of neat, straight and pressed."
"Sister," Sloan asked.
"Teddy is my big sister," Danika said, "she's 23 years older than me."
"Your parents dumped you with your sister," Sloan said.
"Our parents have passed," Teddy said, "this is our family. And your school uniform should be pressed and tidy, it's just being respectful."
There was a second knock on the door and Owen let the Webbers in.
Patrick dashed to the den hearing that Danika was already there with Sloan.
"You two do this a lot," Sloan observed.
"We go to school together," Patrick replied.
"Dad brought me to hang out with dancers," Sloan sneered.
"It's a good school," Danika said.
"Your parents are surgeons and send you to ballet school," Sloan tried again, she wanted to see how far she could push the other two.
"I live with my aunt and uncle during the school year. My parents are in Cincinnati," Patrick replied.
"What do we do for fun around here," Sloan asked, "parties we can go to?"
"Lizzie is at her grandma's and Em is grounded, Asher broke curfew last weekend and lost off campus privileges this weekend, so our friends aren't around," Danika said, "I don't go to parties."
"Not after Michelle's birthday party," Patrick agreed, "Uncle Richard was pissed."
"So were Teddy and Owen," Danika replied.
"It doesn't help that they work with Uncle Richard," Patrick complained, "and they all come to school this week."
"Not looking forward to that," Danika said, "couldn't they just come to parents week like everyone else."
"It is parents week that's why it's next week," Patrick said.
"So your sister goes to parents week," Sloan said, "why wouldn't you tell her to stay home. I used to tell my mom those things were cancelled."
"They email Teddy," Danika said, "she'll come on her days off and Owen comes on his."
"Auntie Adele will be at most," Patrick said.
Teddy was keeping her eye on the teens; she could see Danika as nervous with Sloan. There was something off about Sloan Teddy couldn't put her finger on it yet but something told her not to trust the older girl.
"You really want them there," Sloan teased.
"I like when they come," Danika said, "Teddy said if her and Owen can't be there Megan will come."
"Who is Megan," Sloan asked.
"Owen's sister," Danika said, "she lived with us for a while when she left the army and was looking for a place."
"Have you spent much time with my dad," Sloan asked, "I only met him like a week ago."
"He fixed my ears last summer," Danika said, "he hangs out with Owen sometimes."
"How are you related to Owen," Sloan asked.
"He's my brother in law," Danika said, "hows living with your dad?"
"Other then the private school thing he seems okay," Sloan said, "he says I have to go to school. Do you know of any parties tonight?"
"No," Danika said.
"Michelle's but last time," Patrick said.
"Teddy and Owen won't let me go there," Danika said.
"Uncle Richard would ground me for even asking," Patrick said.
"Let's sneak out then," Sloan said, "they'll have a few drinks with dinner and won't notice if we go after."
"Uncle Richard doesn't drink," Patrick responded.
"Let's just sneak out," Sloan said, "find that party have a few drinks."
"I don't want to," Danika said.
"Nerd," Sloan sneered.
"Enough," Teddy said, "and it's dinner time."
"What's for dinner," Patrick asked.
"Lanagne, salad and garlic bread," Teddy said.
"Auntie Adele made red velvet cake with her home made icing," Patrick said.
"That's the best we had it for your birthday," Danika said.
"Hands," Owen reminded.
"What," Sloan asked.
"Surgeons," Mark said, "we're all surgeon's except Adele we get obsessive about clean hands."
Danika led the way for the teens to wash their hands Sloan rolling her eyes the whole time.
Teddy began to pour wine for those that drank.
"I'll have some of that," Sloan said.
"No," Mark said ,"your 17."
"We have sparkling lemonade for those that don't drink," Teddy smiled.
"Thank you for always remembering," Richard grinned.
"It's nothing," Teddy said.
Through dinner and desert Sloan continued her snide remarks towards Danika and Patrick.
After dinner and helping clean up Danika and Patrick started to set up Settlers of Catan on the table. Sloan chose to ignore them and play with her phone on the couch.
After everyone left Danika asked, "do I have to see her again?"
"Work things that family comes yes," Owen replied.
"But she was awful," Danika said, "she wanted to sneak out and go drink and party."
"You and Patrick said no," Teddy replied.
"We don't like big parties," Danika replied.
"Just be polite when she's around," Teddy said, "you don't have to be best friends but you have to be polite around each other."
