Christmas morning Danika picked Allison up out of the crib and ran to Teddy and Owens room.
"It's Christmas," Danika yelled, sitting on Teddy's side of the bed.
"It is," Teddy yawned " where's Allison."
"Here she was awake " Danika said.
Teddy opened her eyes and took Allison from Danika laying the baby in the middle of the bed.
"Our first Christmas as a family " Teddy said.
"Good morning," Owen yawned, "Dani you don't come in here often."
"It's Christmas," Danika said bouncing slightly.
"Excited this year kiddo," Owen asked.
"Yes," Danika said.
"Okay you and Owen head down and start breakfast so I can feed Allison," Teddy directed.
"No," Owen said, "we go down as a family."
"I like having a real family," Danika said.
"It's been official for a few weeks," Teddy reminded gently.
"It's still sinking in that no one can move me," Danika said.
"Never," Owen said, "they have to go through me first and that's not easy just ask Megan."
"Do we see them today," Danika asked.
"For dinner," Teddy said.
"We'll go to my mom's around 2ish," Owen said, "the morning here."
"Last christmas you taught me to ride my bike," Danika smiled at the memory.
"I did," Owen agreed, "and Teddy cheered you on from the porch."
"It was my first Christmas since dad," Danika said.
"We had a small one that year," Teddy said, "in his hospital room."
"Just the three of us," Danika said, "where was my mom?"
"She had a cold and couldn't be at the hospital because it would have been really bad for dad," Teddy said.
"My last birthday before last years was a few days before you went back to New York," Danika said.
"We did something little," Teddy remembered, "I think I took you and a couple other kids swimming."
"The next big event after this is your 16th," Owen said.
"I don't care as long as we can go get my learners permit that day," Danika said.
"We will get your learners," Teddy agreed.
"Just don't run into the garage door like I did," Owen said.
"What did you do," Teddy asked.
"I had just gotten my learners and wasn't clear on the don't use two feet thing," Owen said, "so I hit the gas a the break at the same time and the car shot forward into the garage door. Megan wore my football helmet in the car when I drove for like 6 months while I was learning."
"She doesn't have sides on her car half the time," Teddy laughed.
"That jeep was something she always wanted no matter how impractical it is," Owen shook his head.
"She mentioned they have good news to share," Teddy said.
"Are they getting married two," Danika asked.
"Maybe," Teddy agreed, "they had gotten engaged then she was captured and they say they're dating."
"Two weddings could be fun," Owen said.
"I've never been to a wedding," Danika replied.
"It'll be fun," Teddy promised.
Seeing that Allison was just about done Owen offered, "when she's done do you want me to change her so you can brush your teeth Teddy?"
"I changed her," Danika said.
"You're getting good," Teddy smiled at her little sister, "I think you've done more of her diapers then I did of yours."
"You didn't live with me," Danika said.
"True," Teddy agreed.
"So we're ready to go down," Owen asked.
"I want to brush my teeth," Teddy said.
"Really," Danika asked.
"I don't feel human unless I do," Teddy replied.
"Go fast," Danika said.
"I'm going," Teddy said, getting out of bed.
"Kiddo, can you take Allison and meet us on the landing," Owen asked.
"I can," Danika said, taking Allison from Teddy and walking to the landing.
"Owen this is why we talked about you needing pajama pants," Teddy laughed once the kids were out of the room.
"She never comes in here," Owen said, "if Dani comes in before we're awake it's an emergency. She's only done it when she's sick then she just wants you."
"Christmas morning seems to be the exception," Teddy said, "she's excited this year."
"She's learned to trust our family," Owen said.
"Most of the time," Teddy agreed, "Riggs."
"She's had the least time with him," Owen replied. He pulled on a t-shirt and pair of sweatpants while Teddy brushed her teeth.
Heading down the stairs Teddy carried Allison while Owen went ahead and turned on the lights and plugged in the tree.
"Allison look," Teddy said.
"Allie Santa came," Danika said.
"He did," Teddy agreed.
"Stockings first," Owen reminded.
"Like we did last year," Teddy remembered. They were still getting in the groove of having their traditions.
They opened the stockings and then turned their attention to the tree. Most of the gifts open Teddy and Owen each took a small box out they had hidden in the tree.
"This is for you," Teddy said, handing Owen the box, inside was a new watch, one that suited him.
"Teddy it's amazing but it's too much," Owen said.
"It's not," Teddy said, "look at the back."
Owen flipped the watch over and read the inscription, "my answer is always that I love you - Teddy."
"Teddy," Owen smiled, giving her a kiss, "this is for you."
Teddy opened the lid of the box and found a necklace with a heart on it and each of the 4 of their birthstones around the edges of the heart, "Owen it's beautiful, it's perfect."
"Let me help you," Owen said as Teddy lifted the necklace out of the box.
"Please," Teddy smiled.
Owen lifted her hair off her neck and slid the necklace around her neck, closing the clasp and kissing the back of her neck.
Teddy ran her finger over the heart, "it's our family."
"Our family," Teddy smiled.
At the firehall Megan and Nathan were opening Christmas presents.
"Mimosa," Nathan offered.
"Just juice," Megan said, "but I will take it in a wine glass."
"Our first Christmas," Nathan said.
"Just the two of us," Megan said, "I can't wait to tell everyone about us."
"We're engaged," Nathan said, bringing the juice to the couch and kissing her.
"We are," Megan smiled, "should we open these."
"We could," Nathan smiled, kissing her again.
Nathan went to grab a gift from under the tree.
"Wrong side, that's the pile for mom's house later," Megan said.
"All of it," Nathan asked.
"Two nieces to spoil," Megan smiled.
"Nieces," Nathan asked.
"What can we call Danika," Megan asked.
"Teddy's sister," Nathan said.
"They have legal custody, legally they're her parents," Megan said, "and I'm the back up. It's the same amount per girl but more items for Allison."
They opened their gifts then Nathan found a small one Megan had tucked into the branches with his name on it.
"Meg," Nathan asked.
"Just open it," Megan said.
Nathan opened the box and lifted out a small camo print onesie.
"Meg," Nathan asked.
"You have to wait until August," Megan said.
"Wait," Nathan said, "newest recruit coming soon."
"August 26th," Megan said, "I saw Addison two days ago."
"Meg," Nathan said.
"Onesie, August is 8 months away, I saw Addison," Megan smirked.
"We're having a baby," Nathan said.
Megan nodded, "I'm pregnant. Six weeks."
Nathan picked her up and spun her around, "we're going to be parents."
"This is okay," Megan asked.
"It's good," Nathan said.
"We weren't trying," Megan said.
"But we weren't preventing," Nathan said.
"We said we would go with the flow," Megan smiled.
Nathan's hand drifted to her stomach, "our baby."
Megan covered his hand with hers, "our family."
"I am so in love with you right now," Nathan said, pulling her closer and kissing her again.
"Can we tell them," Megan asked.
"Your mom will wonder why you're not having wine," Nathan said.
"Technically Owen and I are on call," Megan said.
"Just tell your mom babe," Nathan said.
Later that afternoon they all walked into Evelyn's house.
"Riggs what are you doing," Owen asked.
"Your sister, now I get to carry it," Nathan said.
"Why," Owen asked.
"Apparently that's what the cool aunt and uncle do and we have two nieces," Nathan said.
"Two," Owen asked.
"Our easy way to refer to Dani," Nathan said, "legally you and Teddy are her parents."
"We are," Owen said, "we'll just stick to first names for everyone."
"Except mom," Megan said, grabbing a laundry basket of gifts from the back of the car.
"Mom likes being nana," Owen smiled.
"Nana what can I do," Danika asked.
"Can you find out what people want to drink," Evelyn asked, "I have sparkling apple juice for you for dinner."
Danika walked to the living room and took drink orders.
"Water for everyone in there," Danika said.
"Teddy only has one now," Evelyn said.
"Do they do that for me," Danika asked.
"I think some is for you but a lot are she's cautious for Allison's sake," Evelyn said, "second Christmas here. We're starting to get new traditions. The Nutcracker, you come here for dinner on christmas day, making cookies."
"Cookie day was fun," Danika said.
"What are you hiding," Teddy asked Megan.
"Nothing," Megan said.
"You've been hiding your left hand," Teddy said, "show me."
"Nope," Megan laughed.
"Come on," Teddy pleaded.
"Wait for everyone," Megan said.
Soon Owen and Nathan had the gifts under the tree and everyone was seated with appetizers and drinks.
"Mom we have some good news," Megan smiled.
"What it is sweetheart," Evelyn said, "what's going on?"
"We have two things," Megan said.
"What is it," Evelyn asked.
"She's hiding something," Teddy groaned.
"Nathan proposed last night," Megan said pulling her hand out of her sweater pocket.
"And she said yes," Nathan yelled.
"Congratulations," Evelyn beamed.
"Two weddings," Owen said.
"Two weddings," Teddy agreed, "congratulations both of you."
"Another wedding," Danika said, "this will be fun."
"That's not our only good news," Nathan said, "Meg surprised me this morning."
"Megan," Evelyn asked.
"It's early to tell anyone but I'm having a baby," Megan said, "I'm due August 26."
"A baby," Teddy yelled from her spot beside Megan pulling her friend into a hug, "congratulations."
"An engagement and a baby," Evelyn beamed, going to hug Megan, "I'm happy for you sweetheart."
"We're happy," Megan said.
"Two little ones next Christmas," Evelyn said, "three kids."
"Three," Danika asked, looking confused.
"You, Allison and the baby," Evelyn clarified.
"Were happy for you," Owen said.
After dinner Owen and Nathan were doing dishes.
"What do I need to know," Nathan asked.
"Just be there," Owen said, "learn to put her hair in a ponytail."
"She's excited," Nathan said.
"Teddy was scared," Owen said, "we didn't plan Allison."
"Half planned," Nathan admitted, "not stopping but not exactly trying."
"They're fun," Owen said.
"Allison seems to be more alert now," Nathan said.
"She's getting more social," Owen agreed.
"I have some clothes you should look at," Teddy suggested to Megan.
"Maybe," Megan agreed, "I think I'll be okay for awhile."
"You will," Teddy agreed, "pants first then tops and dresses."
"Will you have another," Megan asked.
"We've talked about it," Teddy said, "I want Allison a bit older and she's still breastfeeding. I want to get to her birthday if we can. One more, two babies and raise three."
"This one first," Megan said.
"You're feeling okay," Teddy asked.
"A bit tired," Megan admitted, "yesterday morning sucked, today was okay."
"It's not constant," Teddy agreed.
"The smell of blood," Megan groaned.
"It gets better," Teddy said, "and we know so you can come talk to us or we can help."
"Who did you tell," Megan asked.
"Just Owen Dani and Evelyn until 14 weeks," Teddy said.
"Family," Megan said.
"We kept it in our family," Teddy agreed.
"I want to," Megan said.
"Should we open all these presents," Evelyn asked, pointing to the tree.
"Yes," Megan said.
"Says the one who went overboard," Owen chuckled.
"Nieces," Megan smiled, "didn't you two go crazy already?"
"Maybe," Teddy shrugged.
"You are the biggest Christmas nut I know," Megan teased.
"It's fun with kids," Teddy smiled, "some one got really into it this year with me."
"I was skeptical once," Danika said.
"We understand kiddo," Owen said.
"Are we skiing again soon," Danika asked.
"We will over your break," Owen agreed, "you just want to use your skis."
"I do," Danika said, "that was fun over Thanksgiving break."
"You picked it up fast," Owen agreed.
"It wasn't hard," Danika said, "just cold when I fell."
"Did you get skis for Christmas," Megan asked.
"Yes," Danika said, "they said from Santa but I think it's like my bike last year. Only Owen knew I want to learn to ski."
Owen just shrugged, "maybe I sent it in for you."
"Why would you do that," Danika asked, "I know the truth."
"Or do you," Owen chuckled.
They spent the rest of the evening opening Christmas presents and playing with the new board games.
