Megan ran into Danika's room.

"You paged," Megan asked.

"You need to order tests," Teddy said, "she's spiked a fever, tachycardia, oxygen is down."

"Robbins," Megan asked.

"In the OR," Teddy said, "Megan help me."

"I have Yang," Megan said.

"Teddy," Danika moaned.

"We're verbal this is good," Megan said.

"I think theres an infection," Teddy said.

"Dani it's Megan,' Megan soothed, "I'm going to look at your incisions to see whats happening."

"No," Danika whined.

"Hold my hand. Megan has to look. No strangers just me, Christina and Megan ," Teddy said taking both of Danika's hands in hers.

Megan gently lifted the hospital gown and the bandages.

"It's infected," Megan said, "I'm ordering tests and calling Owen."

"We can't," Teddy began.

"Teddy out," Megan barked, "Grey get her out of here."

"Come on Dr Altman," Lexie said.

"Dani," Teddy whispered.

"Dr Hunt is good," Lexie reminded.

Megan looked at Dani's numbers again then saw the rash around her IV site.

"Yang get me EPI," Megan barked.

"What," Christina asked.

"Epi," Megan said, "this looks like an allergic reaction."

Christina got the epi pen and Megan stabbed it into Danika's leg. In minutes her oxygen began to climb. Megan ran another set of blood work amd did a second exam finding the rash spreading on Danika's arm and back.

"Grey treat this rash," Megan commanded.

"Yes dr Hunt," Lexie agreed.

"Teddy," Danika whimpered.

"It's Megan." Megan answered, "do you want Teddy?"

"Please," Danika whined.

"Yang get Teddy," Megan directed.

Teddy came back in, by now Owen had arrived and carried Allison's car seat with her asleep in it.

"Allergic reaction," Megan said, "once we gave her epi she started to stabilize. I've removed her IV."

"Antibiotics," Owen said.

"She's responded well to amoxicillin for her ears," Teddy said.

"I'll have Robbins confirm," Megan agreed.

Arizona ran into Dani's room, "how is she?"

"Allergic reaction to either the pain medication or the antibiotic," Megan replied.

"We need an allergy test," Arizona said.

Danika began to cry and whimper in the bed.

Owen set the car seat on the floor as both him and Teddy went to the bed. They sat on either side.

"Megan this rash," Owen pointed out.

"Little grey is getting something for it." Megan said, "it's on her whole arm and down her back."

"Megan," Teddy panicked.

"She'll be okay," Megan said, "we'll do nothing until morning now."

"Teddy," Danika whimpered again.

"You're okay," Teddy promised, "I'm here, so are Owen, Megan and Allison. Our family is here for you."

"What's wrong," Nathan asked dashing into the room.

"Allergy to a medication we think," Megan said.

"She's scared but stable," Owen said.

Danika continued to cry and was comforted by Teddy and Owen.

Megan slipped out of the room with Nathan.

"How can we do that, see them in the bed sick like that," Megan sobbed, "our baby."

"We do what Owen and Teddy are," Nathan said, "we stay with them and hold them."

"What if," Megan said.

"We go in a few hours and see the baby," Nathan said, "first ultrasound."

"Will they be okay," Megan asked.

"They will," Nathan said, "they will be as gorgeous as their mother."

"Nate," Megan groaned, "how do we know they'll be okay?"

"Because your healthy," Nathan said, "and you're taking good care of your self and the baby."

"We're not ready," Megan whined.

"We are," Nathan said, "you're good Meg. The baby is fine."

"Are you sure you're okay with this," Megan asked.

"I don't like that you're not feeling well but I'm excited to meet our baby," Nathan said.

Danika settled back to sleep eventually, her temperature was still up but her heart rate and oxygen were normal.

Teddy collapsed in the chair next to Owen.

"When you called me saying she was decompensating," Owen started.

"I was so scared," Teddy replied, "we have to be calm for her. We can't lose Dani."

"We're not," Owen said, "she had an allergic reaction. We'll figure out what she reacted to and make sure she doesn't get it again."

"We don't know her whole history," Teddy said, "I know bits up until dad and what's in the school record. Seeing Dani in that bed it makes me think of dad."

"We will bring Dani home in a few days," Owen assured, "she's resting now. Her stats are good."

"She asked me for dad," Teddy cried, "she wanted daddy."

"Talk to her about your dad when she asks," Owen said.

"I told her I was here and wasn't going anywhere," Teddy said, "she doesn't need us she needs parents. She needs dad and a mom who loves her. She needs to know she has parents that love and want her. What life is it for a kid to be raised by her big sister and brother in law."

"Then you tell her how much your dad loved and wanted her," Owen said, "how deeply she was loved. And we make sure she knows we love her and want her. We show up everytime and we love her."

"We don't know what were doing with either," Teddy whispered.

"We're figuring it out," Owen said, "theres no text book. Teddy she clung to you today when she came in she was crying for you."

"She never got to know a moms love," Teddy said, "she was so little when we lost dad. What if that was Allison?"

"She has a sister who loves her and will do anything for her," Owen said, "she has us. We will always be there for her. It's our family Teddy. I know she's my sister in law but it's different. I care about Riggs, he's my brother in law but Dani is different. I love Danika, I pushed you to give me guardianship with you because I love her and I want whats best for her. I love her the way I love Allison. I know what the relationship is on paper but she's our Dani."

"I know I'm her sister but she's our kid," Teddy said, "she's our child and not because of the papers. Owen I love her, I have since she was a baby. Holding Dani as a new born is what made me want a child one day. I had said I was never having kids then I held my baby sister and gave her a bottle and that was it I knew I had to be a mom one day. She was 4 days old, she was tiny smaller then Allison was. She was pretty jaundiced as a baby. I was in Med school but I knew it wasn't normal. Dad spent six months at home with her. She always had colds or ear infections but dad dealt with it then her school did. I keep thinking I'm letting dad down. That I'm failing. This is me failing. Owen I failed Dani, I'm failing. I promised dad I would always look out for her and I failed. Six months after we lost dad my mom passed then 9/11 and I ran away. I abandoned Dani. I knew something wasn't quite right but I walked away anyway. I walked away from her and she got hurt and now she's sick. Maybe if I had put my foot down about over training, watched her eating better."

"Teddy," Owen sighed, "you never abandoned her. The first time you came home with me you were so excited to have a reason to be in Seattle, a way to be close to Dani. I remember you checking every time mail came to see if she sent you a letter and you writing letters to her, having me check them to make sure there was nothing scary in them. Teddy you never turned your back on her. You were supporting her the whole time. She knew you were there. You were her first call she knew you would come. When she's had a tough day she goes straight to you. Teddy you are amazing with her. You're being too hard on yourself. She's going to be okay a couple days here, a few days on the couch and she'll be herself again."

"What if," Teddy said.

"Its her appendix and an allergic reaction," Owen said, "Teddy she's okay. She knows were here. You held her and soothed her to sleep like you do Allison. Teddy you are her mom and she knows that."

"She goes to you now two," Teddy said, "she was looking for both of us today."

"She was," Owen agreed, "Teddy she'll be okay. The whole family was here for her today."

"I never called Helen and James," Teddy panicked.

"In a few hours," Owen said.

"Should I have called them," Teddy panicked.

"She had surgery and there was a complication after surgery you were focused on Dani," Owen said.

"I'll call after 8," Teddy replied.

"I can," Owen said.

"They should hear it from me," Teddy said, "they'll blame me."

"No they won't," Owen said, "Teddy theyre educated people. This could have happened to any kid you know that. Theres no way to prevent it it just happens. How many do I do, Robbins, Bailey, Webber ask anyone in general it just happens. She gets a sniffle she you treat it. Teddy you are amazing with her with both girls."

At the nurses station Arizona was pouring over the chart with Megan.

"How are there so many gaps," Arizona asked.

"Neglect," Megan said, "we have her first 6 years because they're dad made sure she was looked after. Theres the gap from when their dad got sick until Dani went to boarding school at 9 then we have once Teddy came. The school records are decent."

"The school doctor refers to me when he's over his head," Arizona said, "he's treated her for strep and ear infections. Can we get the history?"

"Teddy will have dad's side," Megan replied.

"That's here," Arizona said, "her moms side?"

"They have contact and see her maternal grandparents," Megan said, "I'm sure Teddy can get the history."

"I think it was the antibiotic," Arizona said, "she was starting to get an abscess so I gave her a that one."

"She's had and responded well to amoxicillin," Megan said, "try that family."

"How's Teddy," Arizona asked.

"Panicked," Megan replied.

"When this all calms down we should do ladies night again," Arizona suggested.

"I'll DD," Megan said.

"Drunk you and Teddy are funny," Arizona argued.

"I'm driving," Megan said, "I'm happy to drive."

"Megan," Arizona asked.

"I'm not drinking for a while," Megan said, "Nate and I both agreed as a new years resolution. We were both going home and the two of us were finishing a bottle a few times a week and it just wasn't healthy. We're seeing how long we can go but the goal is to make it to his birthday in September. Then we can have a couple for his birthday then and mine in October."

"Theres no way I could do it," Arizona admitted.

"It's not in our house," Megan said, "it makes it easier."

"That would help," Arizona agreed.

"I should nap," Megan said, "I'm exhausted and have another 24 hours to go."

"I'll page you if she decompensates again," Arizona said.

"Thank you," Megan said walking towards an on-call room.

Nathan met Megan and laid down with her on the bottom bunk.

"I almost told Robbins," Megan admitted.

"What happened," Nathan asked.

"She wants girls night and to get Teddy and I drunk," Megan said.

"We're not drinking until my birthday," Nathan said, "we agreed."

"I told her it was a new years resolution," Megan said, "I don't care if you do but I do appreciate you not drinking with me."

"You need to rest," Nathan said.

"So do you," Megan argued.

"Sleep a bit then we get to see our baby," Nathan said.

"The first time we can see them," Megan smiled.

"The sooner you sleep," Nathan said.

"If you would stop talking," Megan whispered.

"Teddy, Owen," Danika whispered.

"We're here," Teddy said.

"We're not going anywhere," Owen assured.

"Go back to sleep," Teddy said, "we'll be here when you wake up."

"It hurts," Danika whined, "and I'm itchy."

"They brought some calmine for your arm and back," Teddy said, "do you want me to do it then you can sleep?"

"And my tummy hurts," Danika whined.

"We can't give you anything for a couple more hours. You have to let the allergic reaction settle down," Owen said.

"Please," Danika whined.

"It's 4am," Owen said, "at 6 we can give you something. Arizona is figuring out what will work."

"Let me do the calamine now," Teddy said.

"Okay," Danika agreed.

Teddy gently coated the hives with calemine trying to help soothe the itchiness.
