Shots rang through the hallways at Seattle Grace, patients and their families were being evacuated doctors running with their patients trying to evacuate the injured.

"Teddy go with the patient," Owen yelled.

"The girls," Teddy gasped.

"Are at my moms," Owen replied, "go Teddy I'm okay here."

"The kids," Teddy said.

"You and Megan go with the patients," Owen commanded, "I'm okay here. Go with that patient then get the girls from my moms."

Teddy and Megan grabbed the stretchers and ran for the ambulance.

Evelyn was folding laundry and Danika was watching tv while Allison napped.

"No," Danika screamed after hearing the breaking news.

"Danika," Evelyn asked, running into the living room where the teenager was supposed to be doing homework.

"The hospital," Danika stuttered.

"They're okay," Evelyn assured. Trying to sound calmer than she felt.

"What if," Danika asked.

"You and Allison stay with me " Evelyn said, "but we're not going to think like that. They're soldiers, they know what they're doing. Danika be positive."

"Everyone leaves me," Danika sobbed, "daddy, mom, now Teddy and Owen."

"No Danika," Evelyn said, "they'll come home tonight."

"Everyone leaves me," Danika sobbed, "no one stays for me."

"Megan let's go," Teddy yelled, pulling Megan into the ambulance.

"They need trauma surgeons," Megan said.

"You're 6 months pregnant, we can't leave you here with a shooter," Teddy said.

The ambulance doors closed and they sped to the nearest hospital.

Megan sat beside her patient in the ambulance panting with her hands on her growing bump.

"You okay," Teddy asked.

"Nate," Megan whispered.

"Will be okay," Teddy said.

"This baby needs their dad," Megan said.

"They will have their dad," Teddy said.

Teddy slumped with her head in her hands.

"Teds " Megan asked.

"The girls," Teddy whispered, "my kids."

"Aren't they with my mom today," Megan said.

"I don't have my phone," Teddy said.

"I do," Megan said, "do you want to call?"

Teddy nodded.

"Danika," Teddy whispered.

Megan handed Teddy her phone, "call."

Teddy called Evelyn's house.

"Megan," Evelyn said, seeing the caller id.

"Teddy," Teddy replied, "I didn't have time to grab my phone. How are the girls?"

"Blissfully unaware and completely panicked," Evelyn said, "are you okay? We saw the news?"

"I'm okay," Teddy said, "I'll see her when this settles down. Meg and I are in an ambulance going to another hospital with three victims. Owen and Riggs stayed back. They sent us because of the kids."

"How's Megan." Evelyn asked.

"Good trying to run into the thick of it," Teddy said, "I dragged her with me."

"Teddy, are you safe," Evelyn asked.

"We are. Owen and Riggs are going back into the OR on another patient," Teddy said.

"So I can tell the ball of nerves are you alive and going home tonight," Evelyn asked.

"I am," Teddy said, "we have to go. Hug my girls for me."

"I will be careful " Evelyn said but the line was dead.

"Was that Teddy," Danika asked.

"Her and Megan are going to another hospital with three patients. She will see you once this calms down " Evelyn assured.

"Owen," Danika asked.

"Back in the Or," Evelyn said.

Owen entered the OR where Derek lay on the table, the gun man hovering behind Christina.

"Put the gun down," Owen directed in a clear calm voice.

"What if I don't," The gunman asked.

"Put the gun down," Owen repeated, "we can help you. Sir, let us help you."

"Do you have a wife," the gunman asked.

"I do," Owen said.

"Children," asked the gunmen.

"Two girls," Owen answered, "tell me about your family."

"My wife died," the gunman said, "that man on the table decided she should die. She was all I had."

"He's a good man," Owen said.

"He killed my wife," the gunman roared.

A bang echoed through the OR.

Owen crumpled to the floor, pain pulsing through his shoulder and down his arm.

"I can't go home to my wife neither will you," the gunman said.

"Teddy," Owen whispered, "Dani, Allison."

Nathan knelt beside his friend, "I'll get you back to Teddy and the girls. Stay with me mate."

On the table Derek flatlined.

"He's gone," Nathan said standing up, "he's dead."

The gunman left the room after several tense minutes.

"Grey, Kepner take Hunt next door and page Webber," Nathan said, "Avery, Yang let's get Shepered fixed up."

Nathan took over the operation on Derek while Owen was prepared for surgery.

"Teddy, Allie, Dani" Owen kept whispering.

"We'll get you home to your girls," Richard said as he stood over Owen, "Hunt you will see them tonight."

Richard saw that the bullet went straight through and missed any major blood vessels.

"Straight through," RIchard said, "no major vessels were hit. I'm going to debride this and sew it up, you'll hold your fiance and kids tonight."

Hours later Megan's phone went off.

"Nathan," Megan said.

"Meg you're okay," Nathan said.

"Teddy and I are okay she's operating here," Megan said, "some one needs to go get their girls. Is everyone okay?"

"Meg I don't know how to say this," Nathan said.

"What's wrong," Megan panicked.

"Owen was shot," Nathan said, "in the shoulder."

"Owen," Megan shouted..

Teddy ran to her," what's wrong?"

"Nate Owen was shot," Megan said.

Teddy snatched the phone from Megan.

"Talk to me Riggs," Teddy demanded.

"It's a straight through," Nathan said, "no major vessels or nerves hit. Webber fixed it hes being sent to seattle pres now."

"The girls," Teddy said.

"He's worried about you and the kids," Nathan said.

"How is he," Teddy asked.

"In pain he could use a unit of blood but we're out," Nathan said.

"When does he get here," Teddy asked.

"They just loaded him," Nathan said.

"I'll meet him in the ambulance bay," Teddy said.

"How's Meg," Nathan asked.

"I'll pass her her phone," Teddy said.

"How's Owen," Megan asked when she took her phone back.

"Conscious and talking worried about Teddy and the kids," Nathan said, "it's a straight through. Nothing major was hit, he's lucky. You and Teddy can meet him. I'm on the next rig with Shepard. He was shot and I've done major work on him. How are you? How's our baby?"

"Scared and he's active," Megan said.

"Little man is okay," Nathan asked.

"He's good," Megan said, "he's moving. I'm hungry."

Teddy ran into the ambulance bay ready to wait for Owen's ambulance.

The doors on the ambulance flew open and a stretcher was unloaded then Owen slowly got out of the back his left arm in a sling.

"Owen," Teddy screamed running to him.

"Teddy," Owen yelled back.

Teddy threw her arms around him, "you're okay, you're alive, you're okay."

"You're safe," Owen said, burying his face in her neck, holding her tight with his good arm and breathing in the scent of her shampoo and perfume, that Teddy smell that told him he was home and safe. It was the scent of her pillow and the blanket on their bed.

"Your arm," Teddy said, pulling back.

"My shoulder, straight through," Owen said.

"We need to get you checked," Teddy said.

"Webber has," Owen said.

"I need to do it," Teddy said, "inside."

"The girls," Owen said.

"Still at your moms," Teddy replied, "they don't know."

"Are they," Owen asked.

"Allison is too young to know," Teddy said, "Dani I've talked to twice, she's scared."

"The kids," Owen said, "I need to see the kids."

"When we know you're okay," Teddy promised, "I have to make sure you're okay."

"Teddy I'm fine," Owen said.

"Full work up," Teddy said.

"Owen," Megan yelled running into the ER to meet them.

"You're okay," Owen asked.

"I'm fine where's Nate," Megan asked.

"Meg," Nathan yelled coming through the ER doors.

"Nate," Megan yelled.

He ran to her and held her close, Megan wrapped her arms around his neck holding him close.

"Baby," Nathan whispered.

"He's right where we left him," Megan whispered and moved his hand to where she could feel the kicks leaving her hand on top of his.

"You're okay," Nathan asked.

"Shaken but okay physically," Megan said.

"If I had lost you," Teddy whispered.

"You won't," Owen said, "Teddy I'm here. We'll go home tonight to our girls and have ice cream with them and tonight we'll sleep in our bed. In a month we will get married."

"Your arm," Teddy said.

"I can feel my fingers and have full sensation," Owen said.

"Full work up," Teddy demanded.

"Webber did it," Owen said.

"I want it done again," Teddy said, "I can't lose you."

Owen was taken into an exam room and assessed by the trauma surgeon on call under Teddy's watchful eye.

"I'll stay with you tonight," Teddy said when the doctor decided that Owen would stay overnight for observation.

"I'm okay Teddy," Owen said, "go with the girls, they need you."

Megan took out her phone and called Evelyn, "Mom can you come get all of us? Were at Seattle Prysbetarian."

"Is everyone okay," Evelyn asked.

"Owen was hit in the shoulder, he's here for observation over night," Megan said.

"I'm coming with the girls," Evelyn said.

"Owen wants to see the girls," Megan said, "they need to hold their kids."

"We're coming," Evelyn said before hanging up.

"Danika," Evelyn called.

"Whats wrong," Danika asked.

"We're going to take Allison and go to Seattle Prysbetarian," Evelyn said, "We will bring Megan and Nathan home and one of us will stay with you tonight."

"Teddy," Danika asked.

"You've talked to her today," Evelyn said, "she's okay. Owen was hurt. She's going to stay with him tonight."

"Is Owen okay," Danika asked.

"Megan said he's going to be just fine," Evelyn said, "he's in the hospital overnight."

"Hospital," Danika said.

"Let's go see them and see what's happening," Evelyn said, she was fighting to be calm knowing her son was hurt. Her kids came home from the battle field safe and now their hospital was shot. She had thought they were out of the way of gunfire and harm.

"Will he die," Danika asked.

"Megan said he's sitting up and talking and asking for you and Allison," Evelyn said, "let's go see. Come on sweetheart."

Evelyn put Allison in her car seat and drove to the unfamiliar hospital.

"I'm looking for Owen Hunt," Evelyn said at the desk.

"Who are you," the clerk asked.

"I'm his mother Evelyn Hunt," Evelyn replied, "and his kids Danika and Allison."

"I'll check," the clerk said, "we're not letting anyone see the Seattle Grace victims with out approval."

"I understand," Evelyn said.

The clerk called to the ward where Owen was.

Soon Teddy appeared.

"Teddy," Danika yelled, running to her sister.

"I'm here," Teddy assured Danika, wrapping Danika in a hug, "I'm okay."

"Owen," Danika asked.

"He's going to be fine, he'll come home tomorrow," Teddy said.

"Momma," Allison said, leaning out of Evelyn's arms towards Teddy.

"Hi sweetheart," Teddy said taking her daughter, "Mommy is here and we're going to go see daddy."

"How is he," Evelyn asked.

"It's just a precaution," Teddy said, "he could be home tonight but the doctors are being cautious."

"Teddy," Danika whined.

Teddy put her free arm around Danika before saying, "you are okay. We are all okay. Dani I've seen more gunshot wounds then you could imagine when I say Owens is minor I mean it's minor. We will both be home tomorrow. Tonight Megan or Nana will stay with you. Dani, you're not going to lose us. Owen and I are here and we're safe. We're all safe."

"Promise," Danika asked.

"I promise," Teddy assured, "Owen wants to see you and Allison. He's worried about you and asking for our girls."

"Teddy," Evelyn asked.

"Straight through he's had some blood as a precaution and antibiotics," Teddy said, "Webber treated him."

"You," Evelyn asked.

"Better now that I've seen him and can hold my girls," Teddy said, "can you take them home tonight? I need to stay with Owen."

"I will," Evelyn said.

"Keep Dani home tomorrow," Teddy said, "she doesn't need to go tomorrow if you can call Brenda please do."

"For Danika," Evelyn asked.

"Yes," Teddy said.

"I don't have to go to school tomorrow," Danika asked.

"No I want you home," Teddy declared, "I'll probably keep you home the rest of the week. We need to be a family."

"I'll call the school," Evelyn said.

Owens' doctor came out of his room, "Dr Altman these must be your kids."

"This is Danika and Allison," Teddy replied.

"Are you ready to see your dad," the doctor asked.

"Brother in law," Danika corrected.

"Danika is my sister," Teddy replied, "we lost our parents a few years ago."

"My apologies," the doctor said.

"It's a common mistake," Teddy replied, "Danika and I are 23 years appart."

"Dr Hunt is ready when you are," the doctor said.

"Thank you," Teddy replied, "is there any chance of discharge tonight?"

"No I want overnight monitoring," the doctor replied.

"Let's go see Owen," Teddy said, "Allison ready to see daddy?"

"Dada," Allison said.

Teddy carried Allison into Owen's room.

"There's one of our girls," Owen said.

"You're alive," Danika said.

"You doubted that," Owen said.

"Maybe the TV said lots of people died," Danika replied.

"There were some casualties," Owen agreed, "but we saved more than we lost. I'm okay."

"Owen," Evelyn said, "you're okay."

"Mom, don't worry," Owen said.

Evelyn wrapped Owen in a hug, "you're okay."

"Mom that hurts," Owen groaned.

"Sorry, sorry," Evelyn said standing up.

"Dani," Owen asked, holding out his good arm.

Danika gave Owen a timid hug.

"It's okay kiddo," Owen said.

"I couldn't lose anyone else," Danika said.

"You won't lose us," Owen declared.

"See the four of us are here," Teddy said, "our family."

They spent a little longer together before Owen started to show signs of being in pain and Evelyn took Danika and Allison home.

Teddy had gotten some one to give her clean scrubs and she sat on the edge of the bed beside Owen.

"What if," Owen asked, "Allison wouldn't remember me."

"You're here," Teddy said.

"Shepard," Owen said.

"He's in ICU," Teddy replied, "but will make a full recovery. I talked to Riggs."

"What if I lost you," Owen said.

"You won't lose me," Teddy said, she took his hand and placed it over her heart, "feel that? I'm alive and healthy."

"I can't lose you," Owen said, pulling her close with his good arm.

"Never," Teddy promised, "we went through too much to find each other."

"The kids," Owen asked.

"I'll keep Dani home tomorrow but they're okay tonight with your mom," Teddy replied, "tonight we worry about you."

"Don't leave me," Owen said.

"I won't," Teddy promised, "you scared me today."

"I was scared," Owen said, "he had the gun pointed at me and all I could think of was you and the girls. We've faced mortar fire and shells, seen men ripped apart but this a pistol."

"Hearing it in our hospital," Teddy said, "forcing Megan to leave with me. Knowing I had to leave you behind in the OR."

"One of us had to go," Owen said, "you were with a cardio patient and one of us had to for the kids. Megan had to for their baby."

Teddy buried her face in Owen's neck and held him close, breathing him in and reassuring both of them that they were together. Owen kissed the top of her head and nuzzled Teddy's hair holding her tight with his good arm, clinging to her to assure them both they were together.

Nathan and Megan wearily climbed the stairs to the fire house.

"What do you need," Nathan asked.

"A shower and to lay down," Megan replied.

"Did you operate all day," Nathan asked.

"They didn't have enough trauma surgeons," Megan said, "i removed 18 bullets from 4 paitents."

"Go shower and I'll make you something to eat," Nathan said.

"Too tired to eat," Megan said.

"You need to eat," Nathan said, "for our baby. What's something I can make you that has some sort of nutrients and calories for you?"

"A smoothie," Megan suggested.

"Berries and what," Nathan asked.

"Yogurt, almond milk, spinach and banana," Megan listed.

"You shower and I'll bring it to you in bed," Nathan said.

"Thank you," Megan said, "then we can watch something."

"What do you want to watch," Nathan asked.

"Anything," Megan said, "I just need you to hold me. I wont be awake much longer."

"Go shower," Nathan said, nudging her towards the bathroom.

Megan stopped in their room for clean pajamas and went to the shower. Nathan made her smoothie and a grilled cheese sandwich, something she had been craving recently.

Megan joined him on the couch when she didn't see Nathan in their bed.

"Hey," Megan said as she sat on the couch.

"Eat, drink then we'll go to bed," Nathan said.

"You," Megan asked.

"I have a sandwich and water," Nathan said.

"Do we have chips," Megan asked.

"Already have your salt and vinegar," Nathan said pushing the bag across the coffee table to her.

"You are the best," Megan smiled.

"Are you sure your okay," Nathan asked.

"We're good," Megan replied, "he's wiggly."

"Nothing hurts," Nathan asked.

"No more than it did when we left this morning," Megan said.

"Your back," Nathan asked.

"Tired but no worse then when I got to work today," Megan said, "how bad is the hospital?"

"It'll need some repair and cleaning. We lost two residents," Nathan said, "a few nurses, nearly lost shepard. Karev is critical."

"Who did we lose," Megan asked.

"Adams and Percy for residents," Nathan said before listing the rest of the casualties.

"Those poor families," Megan said.

"I know," Nathan said, "I had to call Percy's family."

"Nate," Megan said reaching for him.

"Its not the first," Nathan said, "we both do it."

"That poor mother," Megan said.

"The dad," Nathan said, "if it was our baby."

"I know," Megan said, "all day I worried about you."

"I worried about you," Nathan said.

"I thought we left the battle field behind," Megan said.

"I know we left this behind," Nathan said, "it was almost worse then being there becuasde it was a hospital."

"Hearing that, then Owen getting shot," Megan said.

"I saw it," Nathan said, "I saw him get shot he was trying to help Shepard. Straight through the shoulder and into the wall. I saw the bullet in the wall."

"Nate," Megan said.

"I just need to hold you," Nathan said, "know you're alright."

Megan shifted to lean on him and Nathan wrapped his arms around her breathing in the scent of her shampoo. They were home, she was safe in his arms and he could feel their baby moving softly under his hand. Megan sighed and leaned back into Nathan letting her body relax against him. They snuggled like that for a while, dinner forgotten on the table soon Megan was asleep in Nathan's arms.

Back at the strange hospital Teddy lay awake watching Owen sleep, she realized they would all need some counseling and wanted herself and Danika back with Brenda as soon as possible. She knew Danika needed to go before she could return to school. Teddy had always been able to compartmentalize when she was working. She had learned to separate the people she loved from the violence around her in the army but today the violence was in her home. It was in her hospital, right in the ORs and patient rooms she worked in everyday. It hit the love of her life. The shooter could have taken Owen from her today, she almost lost Owen. The thought of losing him made it hard for her to breathe, she would not survive the loss of Owen. Teddy tried to blink back her tears as she watched him sleep. She glanced at the monitors, his stats were good. Feeling movement beside him Owen instinctively tighten the arm around Teddy's waist holding her close to him. His eyes still closed he clung tighter to her. His first thought when he had been shot was to get to Teddy, that he had to get to her. He knew she was scared, he was scared. They had seen a lot but this happening in their hospital, in Seattle this was worse then either of them had seen. Some one to walk into a hospital a place of healing and start shooting. Both knew they could get through it together.
