Teddy's phone rang around 8:30 as she was trying to organize Owen's discharge papers. Being engaged and not married yet was making it hard for her to do his paper work but he was right handed and had been shot in the right shoulder. It wasn't that she didn't know all of the information, it was that the hospital didn't see his fiancé the same as they would his wife.

"Dr Altman," the school secretary said, "Danika isn't at school today."

"She's at home," Teddy replied, "she'll be home for a couple days."

"Her attendance this term," the secretary said.

"Appendicitis she was in the hospital for 4 days and home for a week after that," Teddy replied, "she kept up with her academics. She was so sick she needed surgery. I'm keeping her home now because of yesterday's events. My fiance was shot, Danika is scared so yes our family is home today."

"I'm sorry Dr Altman I didn't know," the secretary said.

"Don't call the Webbers for Patrick either," Teddy replied, "his uncle he lives with was involved we decided to keep the kids home together."

"I have to speak to the parent or guardian on his file unfortunately," the secretary said, "thank you for the heads up. I hope your family is doing okay."

"I'm just going to bring Owen home and Danika is with my mother in law," Teddy replied, "if she's not in school the rest of the week don't worry about calling. We're going to make sure she's mentally okay before she comes back to school. Her health is more important than school."

"Of course Dr Altman," the secretary replied.

"I know your attendance policy," Teddy replied, "she had a doctor's letter from Arizona Robbins for appendicitis and we will get a note once she sees her psychiatrist for this. My fiance and I are both surgeons, military surgeons, when we say Danika is too sick for school we know what we're talking about."

"Miss Whitman has raised concerns," the secretary said.

"I'll deal with her separately, there's history with her and our family," Teddy replied.

Teddy finished the conversation and hung up.

"School," Owen asked.

"Yes," Teddy replied, "wondering where Danika is. I've texted your mom she's not even up yet."

"Let her sleep," Owen said.

"We're going to go home and that's all you're doing," Teddy replied.

"Movie and board games with you and Dani," Owen asked, "cuddle Allison."

"I guess that's okay," Teddy replied, "I'm waiting for Brenda to call me back for Dani."

At the hospital Megan and Nathan walked into the conference room hand in hand.

"You should be home resting," Addison declared looking at Megan.

"You need a trauma surgeon," Megan replied, "you have two trauma attendings me and Owen and he can't be here so."

"Full work up for you before you see a patient," Addison declared.

"I'm fine," Megan said, "baby is kicking. I got some sleep and I ate."

"Your back," Nathan said.

"Is fine," Megan replied, "better than it was yesterday."

"Good morning people," RIchard called.

Everyone took seats at the conference table.

"We're missing a few attendings," Richard said, "and everyone except Megan Hunt and Altman will have to be cleared by a trauma counselor before you can operate. We lost 11 of our own yesterday including 2 residents. Owen Hunt, Shepard and Karev were all shot. Shepared is in ICU at Seattle Prysbetatian, Hunt should be discharged today and Karev is in Critical condition. Altman isn't coming in today. Our ORs are closed until further notice."

"Do we have any updates on Owen, Derek and Karev," Mark called out.

"Owen is going home," Megan replied, "I've texted Teddy. They're going to stay home for a few days they're keeping the girls home as well."

A new attending asked, "do Hunt and Altman really have two kids?"

"Allison is their daughter," Nathan explained, "and they have custody of her sister. Altman's parents have passed so her and Hunt have custody of 16 year old Danika."

"Hunt, Riggs, do we know how Teddy and their kids are doing," Bailey asked.

"Teddy said she's okay but she's on edge and I saw the girls last night, Danika is a mess," Megan said.

"Will Teddy want her in with Andrew Perkins the trauma counselor coming in," Richard offered.

"Let Teddy and Owen know that's available but Danika already sees someone here in psych," Megan replied.

"Altman gave me the name for Sloan," Mark replied, "but Sloan wont go."

"Danika doesn't want to do something, they go into officer mode and she does it," Nathan answered.

"What happened next," Bailey asked.

"The police investigate and finish their report then we clean up," Richard said, "we have trauma counselors coming to help staff and patients you will all need to be cleared."

"Sir I can operate," Nathan said.

"You need to be cleared," Richard replied, "you watched your brother in law get shot and worked on Derek."

"Sir I've seen as bad in the field you need Meg and I to operate just for emergency cases," Nathan said.

"Megan is not operating until I do a full work up," Addison declared.

"I'm fine," Megan snapped.

"I'm supposed to see you next week anyway," Addison said, "just let me do it today."

"Fine," Megan huffed.

Teddy helped Owen into her car.

"Teddy stop," Owen argued,"I'm fine."

"It worries me," Teddy said.

"Teddy I'm okay we're going home," Owen said.

Teddy got in the driver's seat and looked at him, "we left the battlefield behind. We were discharged and this shouldn't be happening. This should not have happened. We've worked under fire before but this not knowing if you would be okay."

"He was sick Teddy," Owen said, "and grieving. Shepard got the worst of it."

"Karev," Teddy said, "he's still got the bullet in him."

"The girls," Owen asked.

"Your mom says Allison is okay and I've had about 50 texts in the last 20 minutes that I'm assuming are from Danika," Teddy replied, "I wanted her to sleep in."

"She'll be fine she's home today," Owen said, "that didn't go well with the school?"

"Beth," Teddy replied.

"Since when does Beth decide how we care for our kids," Owen snapped.

"When she began grading Danika in English," Teddy replied.

"She's not doing a good job," Owen growled.

Teddy sighed, "I'm meeting with the dance and academics team next week about the absences. She's on the cusp for attendance."

"They're unreasonable," Owen said, "five days in an 11 month school year. That's one cold or strep throat."

"We've had a lot of colds this year," Teddy said.

"Mix Allison's daycare and Danika's school," Owen replied, "two different sets of germs meeting in our house."

"Then we're at the hospital," Teddy replied.

"Meg had more colds this year than the rest of us," Owen said.

"She's working today," Teddy shook her head.

Back at Seattle Grace Addison led Megan and Nathan to her office.

"Megan you're going home," Addison said as soon as she took Megan's blood pressure, "your blood pressure is up it's likely stress. I want you to go home and relax. Go lay on the couch with a movie."

"Baby is he okay," Megan asked.

Addison continued her exam, "he's fine. I want you to relax. It's most likely just stress from yesterday. Go home and relax. Couch, movie, nap."

"We came together," Nathan said.

"I'll call mom and I guess join them at Owens," Megan said.

"I'll tell the chief to call me if anything comes up and I'll go with you," Nathan declared.

Nathan and Megan told Richard what was going on before changing out of their scrubs.

Teddy held Owens hand on the way through their front door.

"Owen you're actually okay and home," Danika shouted.

"No need to yell kiddo," Owen said, "I'm fine. It's just a flesh wound. Let it heal up and I'll be fine in a couple weeks. Danika this is minor, it's a hole not too much bigger in diameter than a pencil."

"But you were shot," Danika said.

"And I'm here now," Owen said, "they can't take me out that easily."

"Now no one can go to the hospital until Megan has the baby," Teddy replied, "no more. I've had enough of worrying about you two in the hospital."

"Do they know what it is," Danika asked.

"They do but won't say," Teddy shook her head, "she's being a pain in the ass. She's working today."

"It's my day to run the ER," Owen said, "it should be closed today."

"You're injured," Teddy reiterated, "you're off for a couple weeks."

"The wedding," Owen said, "we already took a week off for our honeymoon."

"I'm looking forward to it," Teddy smiled.

"We're staying with Megan," Danika clarified.

"Her and Nathan are coming here," Teddy replied.

"It's summer session, just dance, no school work," Owen said.

Teddy's phone rang again on the counter just after noon showing Danika's school again.

"Hello," Teddy answered, sounding confused.

"Teddy, it's Beth Whitman," Beth said, "I'm having some concerns about Danika's progress in my class. Is this a good time?"

"Not particularly," Teddy answered, "I'm sure you know what happened at Seattle Grace yesterday."

"What does that have to do with Danika's attendance," Beth asked.

"Owen and I both work there and we were involved," Teddy replied, "I have a traumatized sister at home. At this point it would not be healthy for Danika to be in class today. I've already spoken with Mrs LaChance, Danika will be at school when she has been medically cleared to return."

"She missed a test in my class today and I don't do retakes," Beth argued.

"You will allow Danika to take the Shakespeare test when she returns to school. We can bring her in early or she can stay late for that," Teddy offered, "I will be speaking to Mrs LaChance about this Beth."

"Teddy give me the phone," Owen interrupted.

"Owen wants to speak to you," Teddy told Beth.

Owen took the phone.

"Owen, it's good to hear from you," Beth said.

"Look," Owen replied, "you are going to let Danika do her test when she gets back to school."

"Why are you doing this? She's Teddy's sister, you have nothing to do with her," Beth argued.

"I have guardianship with Teddy," Owen replied, "legally I'm as responsible for Danika and her education as Teddy is. We are meeting with Mrs LaChance next week about what we're noticing at home. Honestly we are discussing pulling Danika. Your class is the major reason. She's not getting the education she needs in English. She's reading things and understanding things that are on a college level. Teddy and I read and we discuss the books with her. Your class is the problem. "

"What," Beth gasped.

"I know you're trained for second grade," Owen snapped, "you have no business teaching Danika. That kid is brilliant. I'm not doing this today. Teddy and I will meet you next week. You will leave my sister in law alone."

"Sister in law," Beth asked.

"Teddy and I get married in a month and we have a daughter, Allison is one," Owen said, "you are going to leave my family alone my wife and both kids."

"Wait, you and Teddy have two kids," Beth whined.

"A daughter and my sister in law," Owen said, "we know how capable Danika is. I'm not doing this today. I was working yesterday at Seattle Grace and was injured in what happened. Teddy is stressed and exhausted, Danika is a basket case. Dani will do the test when she's back. Right now my family is looking after our health. Good bye Miss Whitman."

Owen hung up and passed the phone to Teddy.

"Not today," Owen said.

"Your shoulder," Teddy asked.

"Hurts," Owen admitted, "but it's a GSW."

"What can I do," Teddy asked.

"Nothing," Owen said.

"Are you really going to take me out of my school," Danika asked.

"We don't want to," Teddy said, "but you're not getting the education you need."

"But I'm going to dance," Danika said.

"I know you do," Owen said, "and we want you to dance because it makes you happy. It's your English class. Your teacher isn't doing what she needs to for your education. She's meeting the state curriculum but shes not challenging you."

"Why do I have to be challenged," Danika asked.

"Because you're too smart not to be," Teddy said.

"I want to stay with my friends," Danika argued.

"We're just going to meet with your principal," Owen said, "next week."

"Why would some one shoot a hospital," Danika asked.

Teddy and Owen looked at each other and nodded. They had said they would always be truthful with the kids and this time Danika needed the full story.

"The man that was shooting in the hospital yesterday was sick," Owen said, "mentally."

"He lost his wife and was all alone and had no where to turn," Teddy explained, "he was angry because his wife passed away in the hospital and he wanted to hurt the people he thought killed her. Thats the first time that happened that we know of and it will be the last."

"But he could have killed you," Danika cried.

"He could have," Owen agreed, "he did hurt me. He shot me because he didn't know what else to do."

"The news said people died," Danika said, "it could have been you."

"It could have been," Owen said, "but Nathan was with me and so wes Richard. They made sure I was okay and fixed it right away. The bullet went straight through they cleaned up the wound and I'm fine. Danika I'll be fine."

"But," Danika started.

"I know Kiddo," Owen said, "but I'm right here. When he hit me all I could think about was my girls and getting home to the three of you. Our family is home and we're all okay."

"Megan and Nathan," Danika asked.

"We saw them last night," Teddy said, "they're just fine. Even the baby."

"They went to work today," Owen added.

"I got sent home," Megan said letting her self in at that moment.

"Megan you're okay," Danika said running to her.

"Just tired," Megan said.

"They wouldn't send you home for exhaustion," Teddy said.

"Okay my blood pressure is up a bit but nothing some family time wont fix," Megan said.

"Megan," Teddy said, "okay go sit down."

"Mom's coming," Megan said.

"I know she's bringing food," Teddy said, "and driving Danika to meet Brenda."

"At the hospital," Megan asked.

"Brenda has a private office a couple blocks away as well. We usually go see her there," Teddy said.

"Can you drive me," Danika asked Teddy.

"Go," Owen said, "I'm fine here with Allison and Megan."

"Are you sure," Teddy asked.

"Go," Owen repeated.

"Dani go get dressed then," Teddy said, "your appointment is in half an hour we leave in 10 minutes."

Once they were out the door Owen sat with Megan on the couch.

"You got fucking shot," Megan snapped, "in the OR."

"I know," Owen replied.

"You almost died," Megan shouted.

"I didnt," Owen said, "I thought I was going to when he shot me. I was in an OR I was here we left the battle field behind."

"We did," Megan said, "you and Nate had to stay."

"We did," Owen said, "but we're okay. We had to send you and Teddy for the kids."

"It could have been Nathan hurt like Derek," Megan sobbed, "he could have been killed. I could have been alone with my little man."

"Your having a boy," Owen asked.

"A little boy," Megan smiled, "I want to talk to you about a name idea make sure you're okay with it. I need you and mom to be okay with it."

"You want to name him William," Owen asked.

"We want to name him after dad," Megan confirmed.

"We thought of it then Allison is a girl so," Owen said, "name your son for dad. Dad would like it."

"Are you sure Owen," Megan asked.

"William," Owen smiled, "I have a nephew named William."

"Three more months," Megan replied, "I can't believe Allison is 1."

"Allison is 1 and Dani is 16," Owen replied.

"I can't believe you have two kids," Megan said.

"The relationship with Danika is complicated," Owen replied, "are we her parents? Her siblings? The court documents say guardians."

"Its different," Megan said, "Owen I'm not ready to be a mom."

"I wasn't ready to be a dad until I held Allison," Owen said, "seeing everything Teddy went through I don't know how she did that."

"Baby," Megan said, "will you have more?"

"We want to," Owen said, "but she's 39. We have two kids and another kid would mean moving."

"Put Danika in the office," Megan suggested.

"Not an option," Owen said, "Teddy promised her that her room was untouchable when we got organized for Allison. Danika's room is hers they decorated that together when Teddy bought the house."

"You two both coddle Danika," Megan declared.

"I'm trying to get Teddy to stop," Owen said, "she does it out of guilt but Danika has been in her care for 2 years and mine for 18 months. Wait until you have you baby you'll do anything to make them happy."

"Your sister in law," Megan asked raising an eyebrow.

"More child," Owen said, "I'm 22 years older than her."

"Can I do this," Megan asked, "be a mom?"

"You can " Owen assured, "Megan you'll be a great mom."

"I don't know how to parent," Megan said.

"I'm flying by the seat of my pants everyday," Owen admitted.

"You," Megan said, "I thought major diamond would have a text book for me."

"No text book," Owen said, "more information on Allison than Danika. Theres milestones for babies and books about that."

"I bought a few of those," Megan said, "but what if something had happened to Nate."

"I didn't," Owen said, "but you would have had mom, Teddy and I."

"I just want them to be okay," Megan said.

"They will be," Owen assured.

"How do you know," Megan asked.

"Because I worried about the same thing with Allison, would she be okay, would Teddy be alright, could we do this," Owen said, "Megan your baby will be good."

"Yesterday," Megan said with tears in her eyes.

"Was frighnting but we've seen fighting and shooting before," Owen said.

"Not with kids," Megan cried.

"No not with kids," Owen agreed, "just with my sister, best friend and the love of my life. The moment I was hit all I could think of was getting to Teddy and the girls."

"What if," Megan started.

"Megan we're all okay we can't do that it's not good for your baby," Owen said, "why did you get sent home?"

"My blood pressure is up," Megan said.

"This isn't helping," Owen said, "relax, we can watch a movie."

"No world war two movies," Megan said.

"No musicals," Owen replied.

"Disney," Megan suggested.

"Maybe," Owen agreed.

Megan found a DVD on the stack and held it up for Owen to see.

"Pirates of the Carribean," Owen read, "sure."

Megan put the DVD in the player and settled on the couch with Owen.
