"Teddy," Danika said walking into Teddy and Owen's room.

"You look worried what's going on," Teddy asked.

"When we go see dad's friends in a few weeks did they know about me," Danika asked.

"They do," Teddy assured, "they always ask me about you. I was about your age the first time dad dragged me to one of these meetings."

"What do I have to do," Danika asked.

"Stay beside me, smile, shake peoples hands," Teddy replied, "I already bought a dress for it but we need to look at shoes you really need heels to go to this."

"I can have heels," Danika asked, "and at school next year?"

"No heels at school," Teddy replied, "we don't know if your going back to your school."

"I want to stay," Danika said.

"I know you do but SAB would be an amazing opportunity," Teddy replied, "but it's then two different schools an academic and a dance one and you in New York."

"It sounds fun for a summer but I want to come home to you," Danika said.

"If that's what you want," Teddy replied, "we met with Mrs. LaChance."

"I know," Danika said, "she's been watching my english class."

"If you choose SAB it's boarding again," TEddy reminded.

"I've already done that," Danika said.

"You did for a long time," Teddy agreed.

"I don't want to again," Danika said, "the summer will be fun to go with Em but thats it. I want to come home."

"Then you come home," Teddy smiled, "you can always come home."

"Always," Danika asked.

"Always," Teddy assured.

"Even if you have another baby," Danika asked, "I heard you and Owen talking."

"This is our home," Teddy promised, "you are always able to come home here and come home to me."

"What about dad's friends," Danika asked.

"They want to see you, they haven't seen you since you were 6," Teddy said, "they know you're with me and want you with me."

"They agree," Danika asked.

"They do," Teddy said, "they know it's best for you. For us to be together."

Teddy sat on the bed and motioned for Danika to sit beside her.

"Dad would want us to be together," Teddy said, "he would be so proud of you and how strong you are."

"He should be there next week," Danika said, "to walk with you."

"I wish he was," Teddy said, "that's why you're going to walk with me before you join Megan, Bailey and Arizona."

"Me," Danika said.

"You and I together," Teddy said, "our family. And one day when you get married I can walk you or Owen would."

"That would require a boyfriend," Danika said.

"And like 10 more years at least," Teddy said.

"Did you have boyfriends before Owen," Danika asked.

"I did," Teddy smiled, "you only met one. You were about 3 and I was just finishing medical school. He kept giving you jelly beans when dad and I weren't looking. Then dad had a meeting and you were so hyper."

"And he left me with you," Danika guessed.

"And James," Teddy answered, "we took you to the playground and everyone thought you were our kid walking through campus."

"People think you're my mom all the time," Danika said, "I wish you were my mom."

"I can be that person for you, I can act like your mom if you want me to," Teddy said, "we know what's on our birth certificates but we also know what the court said."

"The court said legally you're like my mom," Danika said.

"I'm your legal guardian with Owen," Teddy said, "we do all the things parents do. That includes loving you because you're you and part of this family. You will always be part of this family. We say that we have two kids."

"You have one," Danika said.

"It's complicated with you sweetheart," Teddy said, "you're my sister but with the age gap."

"And that I live with you and you have to take care of me," Danika said.

"Chose to," Teddy said, "I made a choice so did Owen. We chose our family. We will always choose you."

"Even when I go to the summer program," Danika asked.

"We're excited for you to have that opportunity to do what you love and train with different teachers," Teddy said, "we want you to do things and try things."

"Why did Em and Michelle have to do scholarship applications for SAB but I didn't," Danika asked.

"You wouldn't qualify for a bursary," Teddy said, "just me being a surgeon alone I make too much money for you to qualify. It will be different for when you go to college though. You will qualify for some scholarships and awards because of dad and your mom."

"Orphan scholarships," Danika asked.

"Yes," Teddy replied, "but you won't need them."

"You and Owen can't pay for me to go to college," Danika said, "you have Allison."

"This stays between us," Teddy said, "I need to explain something about dad and your education. Can you keep it between us?"

"Yes," Danika said.

"Dad didn't give me numbers until I was 21," Teddy replied, "I'd like to do the same."

"Numbers," Danika asked.

"Money," Teddy explained, "Danika you don't qualify for scholarships because dad was very wealthy. We are."

"You said there's school money," Danika interrupted.

"I've been using yours for your education yes," Teddy replied, "but theres the trusts dad set up when we were babies and most of his money went into when he died. Your mom only kept the apartment and a set amount. But theres also dad's shares from owning part of the publishing company. We own those you and I share them and I can't do anything with them with out you agreeing and you have to be 18 to do that."

"Do we have to do anything," Danika asked.

"No but we should go to the meeting every July," Teddy replied, "I got out of a lot of them because I was deployed, then you had just moved in with me then Allison was a new born."

"Why do I have to go," Danika asked.

"You go to the reception," Teddy said, "be seen and smile. You don't go to the meetings you'll be dancing. It's not something I enjoy and one day I would like to sell the shares we have."

"Can you do your half," Danika asked.

"I don't know," Teddy said, "it was a chunk in both our names."

"Do we have to work for them," Danika asked.

"No," Teddy said, "go to these meetings once a year and read a few emails once in a while but no day to day involvement. It's a big deal that we'll be there."

"What happens after your wedding with that," Danika asked.

"Nothing," Teddy replied, "Dad set it so the big things you and I decide together and you have to be 21."

"Is it really like Gossip girl," Danika asked.

"Yes but you're not going to behave like that. I wasn't allowed to and you don't get to," Teddy declared, "I don't like you watching that show."

"Everyone at school does," Danika said.

"I know," Teddy agreed.

"When you get married will owen still want me here," Danika asked.

Owen not realizing the two sisters had been having an important and private conversation walked in at that moment.

"I do," Owen said.

"It's not a game like mom's boyfriends," Danika asked.

"What happened," Owen questioned.

"They would be nice to me to my face if I was home but wanted her to keep me at school," Danika said, "I couldn't come home because they were there. It was one of their ideas to put me in boarding school. His name was Dave and he hated me so told mom to put me in boarding school or up for adoption."

"No," Owen said, "I'm not even thrilled with you doing SAB year round if that's your choice. I don't want you across the country. You belong home with us. I'm not sure how I feel about you going for a month."

"I've been on my own longer than that before at school," Danika said.

"But we don't want you gone for that long," Owen said, "not until college at least."

"If I can get in," Danika said.

"You will," Owen assured.

"Why don't you want me to go to the Summer Intensive," Danika asked.

"I'll miss you," Owen said, "who will go for a bike ride with me after dinner? But all the chocolate chip mint ice cream is mine."

"It's a month," Danika said, "I'll email and call. Teddy is there for the first three weeks."

"And we're all coming out for the last 4 or 5 days," Teddy said, "all of us. So we can see the presentation days and the final showcase."

"So I'm only really there two weeks by myself," Danika asked.

"Yes," Teddy replied.

"We'll miss you," Owen said, "Dani why do you think I fought for guardianship?"

"To make Teddy happy," Danika guessed.

"No," Owen said, "because I want to make sure you had all the care and support possible. I wanted that legal paperwork to show what I was already doing. It's been a lot easier this year for me to deal with your teachers and if you got sick again and they couldn't get a hold of Teddy I can make the decisions."

"But why did you want me," Danika asked, "you got stuck with me."

"I chose," Owen said, "I knew when Teddy and I started dating that you would be part of our family. I made that choice. Danika we chose you."

"Danika I made the choice two years ago when I came out here that we would be together," Teddy assured, "we chose you. Danika I was getting everything set up to legally fight for you. I had met with a lawyer to get visitation at the least, I was going to use everything in my power to see you and spend time with you."

"I felt like I knew you before Teddy came out here," Owen said, "she talked about you so much. It used to make her really happy when she would get your emails or her day to call and she could call you, she would count down the minutes until we were done working and she could talk to you."

"Really," Danika asked.

"Really," Teddy smiled, "and as soon as I was off the phone Owen wanted to know how your week was."

"You were only about 10 the first time Teddy came to Seattle with me," Owen said, "we watched you dance in the nutcracker. You were a cookie."

"Nine it was my first year at school," Danika said.

"You were adorable and the way you lept at Teddy after the show," Owen said.

"I hadn't seen her in a long time," Danika said.

"You jumped on me for a hug two years ago," Teddy said.

"I felt safe," Danika said, "it was the first time someone loved me and wanted me."

"I always wanted you," Teddy said.

"We will always want you," Owen assured, "you are safe here."

"This is home," Danika said.

"This is home," Owen agreed.

"You okay," Teddy asked.

Danika nodded. Teddy wrapped her in a hug and soon Owen joined the group hug, seconds later Allison woke up from her nap crying.

"She feels left out," Danika said.

"It's Saturday," Teddy said, "let's get her and ride down to the beach for ice cream."
