Okay, remember last chapter when I said that this one will be a special one? Well this isn't what I had planned at first until I saw the most recent episode of season 2 where Eda & Lilith's mother made her debut in the series so I just had to make a chapter with her.

But I'm sure you all will enjoy what is to be found in here.

"The time has finally come; The Owl Lady is raising a kid." King joked as he sat on the kitchen counter, drinking a mug of cocoa.

Eda leaned against the table and drank some apple blood with a roll of her eyes. "Yeah, I know, shocker." she replied sarcastically.

The little demon continued speaking. "You have to teach them how to properly speak, read, write, and potty train. You up to the task?" he asked in a joking manner.

"Yes King. All that and more." Eda replied, slightly annoyed now.

"And there's the possible temper tantrums. Oh, and what about when they become a teenager? The angst will be real." said King, taking another sip of his beverage.

"Pffft. I already know how to handle that situation." Eda passed off with a wave off her hand.

King's little ears perked up in interest. "Seriously? How?"

Eda remained silent, staring blankly at the wall.

"Eda?" King called.

Eda still didn't say anything. After a few seconds, the dots within King's mind connected. "You don't really know, do you?"

"You got me. Never realized that raising a kid can be so complicated, and we only had Luz for almost a week." The Owl Lady said while lowering her cup.

"Blind parenting-"

"Guardian!" Eda interrupted King.

"Sorry," The little demon winced. "Blind guardian-ing. Wait, what's so wrong with saying parenting?"

"I told you already, King; We can't get too attached to Luz, and considering myself as a parent will only lead to attachment. We'll have to send her back to the Human Realm when she's old enough. That's our plan." Eda reminded.

King sadly put his head down. It has only been a few days but he has already grown close with the little human. But he also believes that Eda's right somehow.

"Well... you could at least use some help to know what to do as Luz grows up. Maybe call Lilith?"

Eda's head shot towards King, her eyes narrowing into slits.

"Really?" she asked with venom in her voice.

"Here me out! Hear me out!" King said quickly to not anger his friend further. "You and Lilith might be in a very rough patch right now, but she has some experience with kids. Didn't she have a babysitting job years ago?"

Eda calmed down slightly. "Yes, but I'm not going to her. Not only will she arrest me in a second, but who knows what she would've done to Luz."

"I'm not trying to defend Lilith, but I doubt that she's cold-hearted enough to harm a kid; human or not."

Eda shook her head. "She might not. But I'm not taking any chances." she said coldly.

King mentally scratched Lilith off of his list.

"So you just want to learn as you go along?" King suggested.

Eda didn't reply immediately. She instead looked out into the night sky through the kitchen window.

"I have one person in mind."

Half an hour later. Eda soared through the dark sky on her staff with a sleeping Luz bundled in a blanket, cradled in Eda's arms. The Owl Lady looked down and saw a familiar looking house.

"Back here again after so many years." said Eda as the staff descended down to the ground.

Eda stepped off her staff and walked towards the front door of the large house while carrying Luz who was still slumbering. Stopping in front of the door, Eda sighed before pressing the doorbell which caused a sound to ring out inside.

It was almost a full minute before Eda heard sounds on the other side of the door. The door opened to reveal an older lady who looked similar to Eda.

"Hello? Edalyn?!" The old lady jumped in surprise.

"Hi mom." Eda said quietly with a small smile.

Eda's mom (her name is Gwendolyn btw) opened the door wider.

"Y-You're visiting... Does that mean your curse is gone?" she asked excitedly.

Eda's smile dropped as she closed her eyes. "No." she said depressingly.

Gwendolyn's smile also faded. "Oh... then why have you come? And what's that you're holding?" she asked, noting the wrapped bundle.

"That's why I'm here. I need advice." Eda explained.

"And that would be?" Gwendolyn asked with one eyebrow raised.

Eda pulled down the blanket slightly to reveal Luz's sleeping face. "Baby advice." she clarified, her mother responded by covering her mouth in surprise.

A minute later, the three sat in a small room with chairs and a lit fireplace.

"Are you sure you don't want me to wake your father? He misses you dearly." Gwendolyn asked while pouring da a cup of warm tea.

"No," Eda replied with one of her fingers being gripped by the now awakened Luz. "I just need to talk and then I'm off again."

Gwendolyn reluctantly agreed before sitting down if front of Eda and looked at the little child in her hold.

"So tell me about this little cutie! You said her name is 'Luz', correct?" she questioned, making cutie faces at Luz.

Eda nodded. She decided to allow her mother to hold Luz who happily complied.

"So how old is she? I also wish you told me you were pregnant with my first grandbaby!" said Gwendolyn who lightly pinched Luz's chubby cheek which made the toddler laugh in delight.

"Well, that's the thing. She's not my kid." Eda corrected.

Gwendolyn looked up at Eda, confused. "What?" she asked, still holding Luz close to her.

"I was in the Human Realm collecting trash to sell here and she climbed into my bag without me knowing." Eda explained.

"Human Realm?" Gwendolyn said and looked down at Luz. "So that means she's..."

Gwendolyn pulled the blanket off of Luz's head to reveal her round ears and gasped.

"A human..." Eda confirmed, slightly worried at how her mom will react.

Gwendolyn continued to stare at Luz who stared back curiously. Just before Eda could say anything or take Luz away, Gwendolyn just shrugged.

"Ah well. A grandbaby's a grandbaby!" Gwendolyn smiled and hugged Luz tightly. The toddler saw Gwendolyn's gray hair and began playing with it.

Eda was surprised and secretly relieved by her mom's calm and positive reaction. "So you're okay with Luz being a human?"

"Why wouldn't I be? And if this is the closest I'm getting to being a grandma, then so be it! Not like I would've gotten any from Lilith."

Eda cringed at her sister's name (and oddly felt bad for her at the moment). "Uhhh. Mom?"

"Yes dear?" Gwendolyn asked while bouncing Luz on one of her knees.

"It's best if you don't see Luz as your granddaughter, or call yourself her grandma."

Gwendolyn stopped bouncing Luz and looked at Eda with a confused expression.

"Why not?" she asked, sounding hurt.

This almost made Eda change her mind, but she had to keep her own promise. "Because Luz isn't like us and she doesn't belong here. I only took her in because I was unable to find her home. So I'll watch over her as her guardian and send her back to the humans when she's old enough to be on her own."

Gwendolyn was shocked by this and tried to interject. "But Eda, she needs a mommy-"

Eda leaned closer to where she and her mom's face almost touched. "I'm not her 'mommy', and she isn't my daughter." she said coldly.

Gwendolyn recoiled away from her daughter with Luz still in her arms who also looked surprised by Eda's serious voice. She felt her heart breaking, but she couldn't argue with Eda.

"Okay, but at least you're taking care of her." Gwendolyn said with a weak smile.

"Someone has to. Now I just need to know how to properly care for her and how to deal with things like tantrums and potty training." said Eda.

Gwendolyn slowly nodded. "Sure thing! Here's the first thing you need to know-"

An hour and a half later, Eda exited through the door with Gwendolyn following behind, carrying Luz who was once again asleep.

"bye, little cutie." The old lady whispered to Luz and kissed her forehead.

"Thanks again. And if you could not tell Lilith that I was here-"

"Don't worry. I won't say anything about this." Gwendolyn promised while handing Luz to Eda.

"Oh Eda! Before you leave, I have some people who could help you with your curse!"

"Bye, mom." Eda refused and walked down the stairs.

Gwendolyn huffed. "But you can' just ignore your curse! What about Luz?" she asked worriedly.

Eda grabbed her staff and looked back at her mom. "I have it under control."

With that said, Eda mounted her staff and flew away with Luz, leaving a tired and saddened Gwendolyn.

"I know under all of that gloom and bravado lies a mother's heart, Edalyn. When will you see that?" Gwendolyn asked out loud which was heard by no one before walking back inside, closing the door behind her.

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter.

So show-wise (Spoilers for Episode 3 "Echoes of the Past"), King is canonically eight years old and Luz is technically older than him by six years (unless he's 8 in demon years?), so this knocks heads with King being here already while Luz is 2, so here's how it works in this AU:

King is older than Luz here and is currently 8 at the moment like in canon, and by the time this AU matches with the canon time where Luz is 14, King will be 20 but somehow will still be the same size and keeps voice he has now. Don't ask where the logic is in this, it'll save all of us the headaches. Just assume he will get a growth spurt like Gus.

Next Chapter: Luz gets her first gift!
