Getting a firm grip on the envelope, Felix slowly pulled it out from behind him, careful not to alert the guards. He gently nudged Bella, who glanced down between them at where he pointed to. Using the dim light produced by the torches outside the cell that had been lit just after the three Volturi kings had left, she could make out the shape of a small, rectangular envelope. Felix opened it and pulled out two pieces of card. Scanning the writing, he realized they were two boarding passes. Then he tipped the envelope over and a key fell into his palm. A plan forming in his mind, he held it up for Bella to see and her face lit up with hope.

The two stood up, and Bella let out a resigned sigh so as not to cause suspicion by the sudden movement. They made it to the cell door without the guards moving an inch. Felix glanced at Bella and held up one hand to signal to her to pause. He didn't want to go too quickly, in case the bulk of the Volturi guard were still there, ready to be called upon at a moment's notice.

Pressing himself against the wall, Felix craned his head around to peer through the bars. The door at the end of the corridor, leading up to the ground floor, could easily be broken down. Two guards were milling around the underground prison, glancing into cells in which other prisoners, vampire and human alike, had been had been thrown. Checking the boarding passes, Felix knew they still had several hours until their flight.

For another fifteen minutes, in which the guards passed by their cell multiple times, Bella and Felix waited, anxiously and impatiently biding their time. Felix dropped the key into Bella's hand and she gripped it tightly. When Felix gave the signal, she slipped her arm through the bars and slotted the key into the lock. The clash of metal alerted the guards, and she hurriedly turned the key, unlocking the door. Felix pushed it open and immediately leaped towards the furthest guard, sending them stumbling backwards.

Meanwhile, Bella smashed the second guard's head into the metal wall, once, twice, three times, before she left him sliding to the ground, groaning as the cracks in his body healed. Before he could stand up, she ripped his arm off, slamming a hand over his mouth as he howled in pain. Beside her, Felix was finishing off his guard. Satisfied that neither would follow them, the pair ran down the corridor and out of the dungeons.

"What's the plan?" Bella asked, as she ran alongside Felix though the castle.

"We still have two and a half hours until our flight. First, you're going to go hunting. I'll be fine but you won't be able to survive the flight without feeding first." The pair ran to the nearest forest, and Bella thirstily drank the blood of three deer, keeping herself as clean as possible.

Once they reached the airport, they hung around outside, keep to avoid bumping into any other member of the Volturi.

"We should be fine in the airport," Felix said. "I highly doubt Marcus would have given us tickets to a flight from an airport he or anyone else was at."

"Wouldn't it be easier just to swim?" Bella asked.

Felix shook his head. "We'd likely arrive before the others, but we don't want to do that and alert them to our presence too soon. It'll also be harder to stay out of sight of humans. No, it's best we arrive in the thick of the fighting."

It wasn't long before they were settled on the plane in their seats, thankfully not having run into any of the Volturi.

"They'll be here in fifteen minutes," Alice said, her voice strained. "At midday exactly." She looked towards Carlisle who nodded.

"Everyone outside and in position. We'll be waiting for them."

They moved into their allocated spaces as instructed. Jasper, Kate, Alice, and Emmett all stood in the center, with the Romanians just in front of them. Each of them waited silently, none patiently, straining their eyes to watch for the Volturi to emerge in the distance.

"They're here," Alice breathed.

Sure enough, the Volturi could be seen approaching, marching in rows that merged to form three long lines as they stopped across the field from the Romanians. For a few moments, no one spoke.

"I see you have company," Aro commented.

"Certainly we do," Stefan said.

"And they're going to help us destroy you," Vladimir sneered, taking a step closer to their opponents.

"We'll see."

Aro raised both arms and the first row of the Volturi charged. As the wolves and strongest fighters moved forwards to meet them, Edward briefly scanned the Volturi, searching for Bella. But as Demetri raced towards him, Edward tore his eyes away and threw himself into the thick of the fight, trying to keep hope that Bella was somewhere on that field, despite him not being able to detect her scent.

Once their plane landed, Felix grabbed Bella's hand and pulled her out of her seat, barging along the aisle, handing out quick apologies to other passengers.

"We have to be quick," he said. "There's only ten minutes until midday and that's when Aro said they'd be arriving there."

The two of them rushed through the airport, attempting to maintain their human façade as waited impatiently to be able to leave. They ran through the woods, backroads and rarely used paths until they made it to the edges of the forest surrounding the field where a battle had commenced.

Bella took a deep breath, glanced at Felix, and then looked back at the field.

"Come on."

She didn't stop to think, tearing out of the forest and across the field with Felix close behind her. Catching a glimpse of Aro's shocked face as she passed him, she couldn't help but smile. Her smile only widened when she noticed Rosalie's mouth fall open in shock as she saw Bella, since she hadn't detected her scent either.

But Bella, for the most part, ignored them. She made a beeline towards Heidi, the Volturi member who would lead innocent humans to their deaths. Ensuring her shield was carefully wrapped around her, she attacked. Limbs were ripped away, vampires thrown through the air, and heads chucked far away from the owner.

On the other side of the field, Carlisle whipped a match out of his pocket. He lit it, held it over his first kill, and let it fall, watching with satisfaction as Chelsea burned. An arm and head were hurled in his direction. He deftly caught them and dropped them into the fire, causing it to grow larger and more fierce than before.

Meanwhile, Felix had sought out Marcus, remembering the promise he had made to the king, and knowing he had to speak to him before anyone got there first.

"Thank you," he said. He didn't have to explain what for. They both knew all too well.

"Make sure Isabella continues to have a fine life," Marcus replied. "She deserves it. And you do as well. I hope you find your mate soon, Felix."

Felix looked down and swallowed. "I'm sorry."

"Just do it quickly."

He was reluctant, but also determined to do as Marcus requested. Felix complied, ripping Marcus' head off. The body fell to the ground and Felix fought the urge to return the head to the body. But he couldn't. After all Marcus had done for him, Felix wanted to honour his last wish, no matter how much he disagreed with it. He threw the head far away. Someone else would pick it up and burn it for him.

Not far from him, Edward was fighting Renata. She had her arms locked around his neck, ready to separate his head from his body. As she passed by, Bella lunged at them, sending all three toppling to the ground. Startled, Renata's grip loosened slightly, enough for Edward to break out of her hold. Bella flashed him a small smile before tearing off in the opposite direction, seeking out her next target.

Jane.

After her first meeting with Aro, back when she was preventing Edward from killing himself, Bella had developed a deep dislike for Jane. This was mostly because of the way she had happily, carelessly tortured Edward. The dislike intensified after the newborn fight with Victoria, when she ordered for the vampire Bree to be killed. But what topped it all off, what sent Bella over the edge from only disliking her to despising her, was watching her send waves of pain in Felix's direction.

In that moment she walked through the doors into the antechamber and saw her friend in pain, she wanted nothing more than to make Jane suffer. But she was held back. Now, no one was holding her back. Bella was finally free to do as she wished.

During her time with the Volturi, Bella had learned two things she now deemed as highly significant. One, shields were very rare. Aro had only come across one before: Renata. While her shield was powerful, it could only repel physically. Two, because shields were so rare, and Jane's gift was so effective, the vampire never had much combat training. Bella planned to use both of these factors to her advantage.

With her shield firmly around her, Bella charged at Jane, who's gift was rendered useless. Bella had trained hard while with the Volturi, and enjoyed watching Jane's eyes widen as she spun and ran. But Bella was determined and quickly caught up with her.

Disposing of Jane was much easier than she'd anticipated. A simple kick to the gut, a hold on her shoulders from behind, and a twist.

Bella lobbed Jane's head in the direction of the bonfire that had been lit, noting with satisfaction that it tumbled into the flames, rapidly becoming burnt and unsalvageable. She scanned the fight, searching for the next Volturi member to kill. She saw Alec tackling Emmett and extended her shield for cover him. At once, Emmett reacted and shoved Alec away from him. In the back of her mind, Bella ensured her shield protected all of her family and friends that she had seen were there so far.

Casting her eyes about again, she saw Jasper about to take a swing at Felix, flipping him over and onto the ground.

"No!" she screamed, sprinting towards them and knocking Jasper away. The surprised blond stumbled back but Bella paid him no attention as she reached out her hand to pull Felix up to his feet.

"Thanks," he said, before spinning her around so she was facing the reason they were fighting.

The vampire with the black, stringy hair. The one with the cackling laugh. The toothy smile, the false cheeriness.

"You wanna get rid of him together?" Felix asked.

"It's only what we deserve," Bella replied, her legs already carrying her towards the vampire she detested most.

Throwing her a grin, Felix hastened to join her. When he reached Aro, Felix dropped to his knees and skidded across the ice and snow, one arm out to knock Aro's legs from under him. It worked; Aro fell and Felix leaped over to hold him down, but he was hurled backwards across the field. He hit Bella and they both landed on the group, snapping their heads up instantaneously. Aro was striding towards them, wearing an incensed expression.

Felix's hand found Bella's and they nodded at each other. When Aro was closer enough, Felix lifted Bella into the air and spun her around. Her leg kicked out, sending Aro stumbling to the ground. Bella jumped over him and grabbed him from behind. Pushing him to his knees, she lowered her mouth to his ear.

"You're caused us so much pain," she said. "I almost feel bad about killing you and allowing you the easy way out. But this world has no place for a monster like you."

She twisted her arms and in one swift, clean movement, Aro was decapitated.

By that point, the battle was dying down. Most of the Volturi were in the ever growing fire, the flames licking the various body parts. Bella glanced towards Felix who smiled encouragingly. The remaining vampires and wolves watched silently as Bella, cradling Aro's head in her arm, walked towards the roaring fire with Felix at her side. They stopped at the edge of the bonfire and Felix put a hand on her shoulder.

Isabella Swan tossed the head into the flames, ridding the world of the power hungry, diabolical leader forever.
