Hours later, around one in the morning, Jack woke up to a pair of large brown eyes peering at him from the doorway of the master bedroom. All he could see was the shadow of someone standing there. He screamed and turned on the bedside light while the figure screamed too. Both screams woke up Andy who turned on her bedside light and looked at Jack. "It's one in the morning Jack. Go to sleep", she muttered sleepily. Then she saw Amelia standing in the door frame with red tear-stained cheeks and her hair all over the place. "It's just Lia honey. Lia?", she asked, suddenly a little more awake.

"Mommy?", Amelia asked quietly as she stood in the door frame, clinging to the arm of a teddy bear that they had found when salvaging items at the old house. She had affectionately named it Bear-Bear when she was old enough to talk. The honey colored bear wore a pink ballerina tutu and had a matching pink headband. The ears were singed and the fur was matted, but Amelia still was adamant about keeping it; the most precious thing she owned. Rowan later explained that Bear-Bear had been a gift from their mother, Violet, and it was the only thing Amelia owned from her. Amelia clutched her bear in her arms and trembled in the doorway.

Andy sighed and ran her fingers through her hair before asking, "Amelia Joy? What are you doing up sweetheart? Did you have a scary dream?"

"Uhuh. There was a big storm and I got lost", Amelia answered tearfully as she stood rooted in the doorway with no intention of moving any time soon.

Andy smiled sleepily and lifted the covers just enough for Amelia to climb in, "Sounds scary. Come here and tell me about it". Amelia ran over and hopped into the bed, climbing under the covers. She made sure that her bear was comfortable and snuggled in next to Andy, in what had become her second favorite spot over the past few days besides her new room that she spent hours designing with Andy.

"The ground was shaking and, and, you and Daddy walked away and I yelled and yelled", Amelia answered not skipping a beat. Andy and Jack looked at each other wondering what to do next. They never had to deal with nightmares before; at least not a child's nightmares. They were perfectly equipped to handle their own on a daily basis, but not the miniature horror movies that the imagination of a two-year-old could concoct where they run screaming from their room. "It was scary", Amelia added while Andy wrapped her arms around her and ran her fingers through her hair. Amelia yawned and snuggled down, resting her head on Andy's arm.

Jack yawned, "That would never happen Lia. If there was an earthquake, we would all stick together". Amelia gave him a look of disbelief while he tried to think of something else reassuring to say. Not much came to his mind at five minutes past one in the morning. "You know what Amelia? When Mommy and Daddy go into work and go into buildings to save people, we always go in pairs to help each other out and to make sure no one gets left behind, because we're a family. That is our code at our work. No one gets left behind and we stick together. How about we make that a code here?" Jack asked, hoping that she would agree.

"I like it. Can I color?" Amelia asked sleepily, her eyes opening and closing as she attempted to carry on the conversation.

Andy smiled as she held Amelia closer and kissed the top of her head, "That sounds like a perfect idea Lia bug. We can put it on a big sign so no one forgets"

Amelia smiled and climbed her way into the middle, between both parents. Andy hugged her close as Jack turned out the light on his side of the bed. "I do it tonight?" Amelia yawned, half asleep.

"Not tonight sweetheart. You need to sleep. You and I can do it together when we get home from the store tomorrow. Besides I don't think you'd even be able to stay awake if we did it tonight", Jack chuckled, "We had a long day today, so you need your sleep to be ready for the morning"

"Not tired", Amelia yawned before closing her eyes

"Not true. Now go to sleep", Jack chuckled when he noticed Amelia completely asleep in Andy's arms. "Goodnight Lia"

A few hours later, Andy snored away as her phone rang for the tenth time and buzzed with a series of texts from Maya. It seemed like every five seconds, her phone was buzzing. Amelia, sick of the noise, climbed over Andy and took the phone off the nightstand. She pressed the green button and answered it with a loud "Hello? Oh hi Aunt Maya!".

"Hello to you too Amelia!" Maya asked cheerfully, not used to having such a tiny voice answering Andy's phone. She was sitting in her office at the station figuring that Andy must have overslept. She had been doing that alot since adopting the kids.

"Aunt Maya, Aunt Maya, I'm almost this many!" Amelia stated proudly as she held up three fingers, not quite getting that Maya couldn't see her over the phone.

"You're such a big girl! Is Andy or Jack home?" Maya asked as she heard a long pause on the phone.

"Yeah, they're sleeping. Wanna hear the ABCs?" Amelia started as Andy woke up with a start to see Amelia's little foot in her face. "A-B-C-D-E-...", Amelia sang loudly.

Andy sat up and looked at Amelia who was engaged in a conversation on her phone. "She knows how to answer an iPhone?", Andy wondered as Amelia kept singing. "Lia, who's on the phone?" she asked as Amelia put a finger to her lips like Jenna used to do when she was on phone calls.

"Aunt Maya! But I'm busy", Amelia grinned proudly, pulling the phone away from her ear before putting it back again and continuing on with her song.

Andy sighed and turned on the light. She was up for the morning now and not a minute too soon. Andy looked at the time on the alarm clock, it was almost time to get the boys up for school. "What time does school start again? That's right, 8:30", Andy thought to herself. "Lia, honey, I'm sure she loves listening, but can Mommy have a turn with the phone now?" Andy asked impatiently as Amelia looked at her matter of factly.

"I'm not done", she complained as Andy took the phone from her hand without attempting to negotiate, causing Amelia to fold her arms and narrow her eyes at Andy. Over the past few days, Andy realized that not giving into Amelia and letting her ride out her 'toddlersaurus' tantrums as Andy called them was better than letting her get her own way all the time. "Mommmmyyyyy", Amelia whined loudly while quivering her bottom lip.

"None of that Amelia Joy", Andy warned as she answered the phone. "Sorry about that Maya, she woke up and answered the phone before I did", Andy chuckled.

"I'm not complaining, she's cute. It's been what, a week since the fire and she's already that well adjusted?" Maya asked. "She's already more of a chatterbox than she was at the station when she hid behind you and cried until Dean put her on FaceTime with Pru"

"She is. She already has both of us wrapped around her little fingers. DJ does too. Rowan's been a little slow to warm up, but I think we're getting there with him. It's been crazy, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I definitely sleep a lot less than I used to. At least Rowan and DJ go back to school today, so they won't be as bored hanging around the house all day", Andy answered. "They're closer than any siblings I've seen before, but they're starting to get on each other's nerves. It will be good for them to get out of the house for a few. How's the station holding up? Has Montgomery burned it to the ground yet?"

Maya chuckled at the thought. Travis had been keeping a tight command on the crew all week, but was scatterbrained when it came for paperwork from calls. He was driving her absolutely nuts. "I know you have two more days off and it's the first day back to school for the boys, but is there any way Jack can handle that so you can come in? I'm sorry. I have a mound of paperwork waiting for you at your desk", Maya pleaded.

"Sounds like a party. I guess I can be there soon. The boys will be gone for most of the day, and Jack will find someplace fun to take Amelia. I'll see you soon Maya. Bye", Andy laughed as she hung up.

"Is Aunt Maya your sister? Like Anna and Elsa?" Amelia asked as she played with her bear in the middle of the bed while listening to Jack snore.

Andy chuckled as she got up and stretched, "She's like my sister honey. She's Mommy's boss at Mommy and Daddy's work, and she's my very best friend. Kinda like how Pruey is your best friend". Andy went over and opened the curtains, hoping that the sudden stream of light in the room would wake up her sleeping husband. She paused on the way to the window for a brief second feeling nauseous, but shrugged off the feeling so she could get ready. "I have to go work today which means I need you to be my super big helper and help Daddy get your brothers off to school. Can you do that?" Andy asked as Amelia scrunched her face and tapped her chin to think about it.

"Ok, but only for you Mommy", she smiled as Andy nudged Jack awake. After he refused to move after the third nudge, Andy had Amelia wake him up. "He snores too loud", Amelia muttered as she put her little hands on his face. Andy couldn't help but laugh, mainly because it was true.

"GOOD MORNING DADDY", Amelia yelled an inch away from his face. Jack woke up face to face with Amelia and chuckled as she grinned at him with her crooked little smile. He held her high up in their air and made airplane sounds as she held her arms out and giggled. He placed her for a landing on Andy's mound of pillows as he sat up, stretched and rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

"Good morning to you too, Lia bug. Where's Mommy?", he asked as he heard Andy rummaging around in her closet for something to wear.

"Getting ready", Amelia answered matter of factly as Andy emerged from their closet with her work uniform on. "She's working", Amelia added, making sure to fill him in.

Jack watched as Andy pulled her hair into a ponytail. "You have to go in today?", he asked as Andy nodded. "Why? Couldn't Maya hold on for one more day? We went in two days ago"

"She needs me there. So I need you to handle everything here for the day", Andy explained as she walked over to her makeup mirror and put on her lipstick. "I'll be back tonight. I promise", she added. "Besides, you have an assistant today to help you", Andy chuckled as she gestured towards Amelia.

Amelia laughed wildly as she stood up and jumped on the bed, "I get to help you!".

"Stop jumping before you hurt yourself", Jack warned as Amelia landed on the bed laughing. "Are you sure she wanted you in there? The boys are going to school today and we don't have a routine set", Jack wondered, concerned as Andy threw a few things into a bag for herself.

Andy sighed as she kissed both Jack and Amelia, "You'll figure it out honey, I know you will. It's our job to organize chaos at scenes. You can handle this. Have a great day and just call if you need me. Also get a car with at least three rows and please get leather. Leather cleans easier than fabric. Get something that will withstand a 60 car pile up". Jack chuckled as she walked out the door, knowing the significance of what she said. "Alright, I love you guys", he heard her call from down the hallway. When she walked out of the bedroom, he heard a "Dad's driving you to school today. Be good", as she woke up the boys. He turned to Amelia as he heard footsteps on the stairs and the front door shut.

"Ok, it's just like triage. You'll get ready first, then we'll wake the boys and then make breakfast. Then we're off to school. Piece of cake" Jack thought aloud. "Sit right there while I get ready I'll be two minutes'' he added as he handed Amelia a random picture book off the floor and walked into the bathroom. He quickly combed his hair and threw on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt before walking back out into the room.

"What's tee-adge?" Amelia asked as he walked out of the bathroom and out of the room altogether with Amelia following at his heels.

"Triage munchkin. It's when you handle things in an orderly manner. The hardest things go first, and the easiest things go last", he explained as she shrugged her shoulders and skipped down the hall singing to herself. Even at eight in the morning she had an immeasurable amount of energy.

He followed Amelia into her room. He started opening the door to her closet when she stopped him by putting a hand on the door. "I'm going to 'prise you today. Close your eyes", Amelia demanded as Jack sat down in the armchair.

"Are you almost done? This isn't what triage means" he asked after five minutes of listening to Amelia rummage through her drawers. "We're going to be late Amelia. Please pick something"

"Got it. What do you think?" she asked as she showed off a backwards Neon green T-shirt and inside out blue capri pants. She had even managed to fit two legs into one pant leg. It looked like quite the outfit. She turned and looked in the mirror, smirking as she did. "I look good", she chuckled.

"That is a very, very colorful outfit, but how about we fix the inside out shirt and the backwards pants? Also, how on earth did you fit both feet into one pant leg?" he asked as she shrugged. Within a second she had her clothes facing the right way and was running down the hall to help Jack wake up the boys. "Amelia, let's not run in the house", he reminded her as she made a beeline for DJ's room laughing wildly, loud enough to wake up both boys if they weren't such heavy sleepers.

"DJ! DJ!", she yelled as she ran into his room and jumped on the bottom bunk, startling him. Jack could hear groans of "Get out of my room", from next door as he walked into Rowan's room and turned on the lights.

Jack looked over to see Rowan sprawled out on the bed, his hair facing in twenty different directions. "Hey, Rowan, come on buddy it's your first day back to school. Wake up", Jack told him as Rowan turned away. "I know it's early but you need to go to school", he pressed.

Rowan groaned and frustradely threw his pillow over his ears. Jack pulled the pillow off and gently shook him awake. "Go away", Rowan muttered half asleep. "I'm trying to sleep"

"Rowan, come on. We're already late", Jack mentioned as Rowan got up and left his bed half asleep. He turned around to see DJ who was standing in the doorway.

"Dad, come on, do we have to go to school?" DJ asked as Amelia stood next to him. "I can learn here. Watch, I'll do math. If Rowan has one RC car and so do I but I take Rowan's, how many do I have left?", DJ asked.

Rowan sat up and glared at DJ, "None. Because I'd still have mine and yours would disappear". DJ stuck his tongue out at Rowan who ignored it but got up.

"I was going to say two. Come on Daddy. Rowan went to third grade on the computer during the virus", DJ explained. "Can't we do that? Please?"

Jack shook his head as he watched Rowan go into his closet to find something to wear. "Nope. No can do. Now go get ready because we have less than twenty minutes to get there. Go get dressed and please, please brush your teeth", he explained, casually waving his hand in front of his face when he caught a whiff of DJ's morning breath.

DJ scowled at him and rolled his eyes, "Dad, It's not that bad. You can barely tell"

"Come on smart guy, let's go", Jack chuckled as DJ ran down the hallway and back to his room. Jack already felt like he was being pulled in fifteen different directions. He looked at where Amelia had been standing and noticed that she had left. "Amelia?", he called as he heard noise coming from the kitchen downstairs that sounded like a box landing on the floor. Other than that, the kitchen was quiet which they had quickly learned was never a good sign with Amelia. He ran to the kitchen as fast as he could and found Amelia trying to climb the cabinets. "Uhoh Amelia Joy", he scolded as he put her back down on the ground. "What did Mommy and I say about climbing?"

Amelia looked down towards the ground and then back up at him with her puppy dog eyes. She knew he couldn't resist those. "No climbing", she told him. "Sorry"

Jack hugged her, "It's okay sweetheart, I just don't want you to fall and hurt yourself". He looked up at the cabinet that he assumed she was trying to open. "What did you want up there? Did you want cereal?", he asked as she nodded. "All you had to do was ask Lia bug. You know that", he reminded her as he reached up for one of the new floral bowls. He grabbed onto it but hit his elbow off the cereal box on the way down, causing the bowl to slip out of his hands and shatter on the hardwood below. "Shit", he muttered under his breath.

Amelia put a hand over her mouth and looked at the mess that sat at her bare feet. "Uh oh. Daddy, you broked it", she told him matter of factly. "Are you okay?"

"I know honey. I'm okay, thank you for asking. As for you, let's get you out of the way so you don't get cut", he answered as he picked her up and sat her on a stool, trying his hardest not to curse. He got a broom and dustpan from the cabinet and swept up all the shards while Amelia watched intently. "Can you do me a big favor sweetheart and tell your brothers to hurry up? Tell them to wear slippers down to breakfast and help you find yours okay big girl?", he asked as he threw the larger pieces of ceramic in the trash. At least no one got hurt, he thought as Amelia went running upstairs. He grabbed the Dyson vacuum from the laundry room and vacuumed the area to make sure there were no more shards. The last thing he needed was to make a hospital trip because one of the kids cut themselves. Andy would flip if that happened. After putting the cleaning supplies away, he got to work on the toaster waffles and sausages; the only breakfast he knew how to make semi-flawlessly. He chuckled to himself when he heard Amelia yell "Hurry up", at the top of her little lungs.

Amelia sounded almost like Maya when she yelled. She got to the top of the stairs and noticed DJ and Rowan in a stalemate over the bathroom. Rowan stood inside the door while DJ stood outside the door. Both were glaring at each other. "Daddy says we need shoes", she reminded them as they ignored her.

"I got here first Rowan", DJ yelled as he held the bathroom door open with one hand, preventing Rowan from closing it.

"I was born first. Use the one downstairs, I'm using this one", Rowan argued as DJ crossed his arms and made a disgusted face.

DJ stamped his foot, "I don't like that one. I like this one". Rowan rolled his eyes and shook his head. "I can't reach the sink in that one", he added

"No way, little brother. I'm older so I get to use the bathroom first for as long as I want. I'm the boss", Rowan lied.

"Not fair! You're being a bathroom hog dummy", DJ clapped back

"And you're not using kind words stupid", Rowan argued while DJ glared at him and crossed his arms in front of his chest.

"Stupid is an unkinder word than dummy", DJ yelled back, hoping to somehow get his way and his time with the upstairs bathroom.

Rowan rolled his eyes and shook his head, "That's not even a word Dalton James". Both boys were so engrossed in their fight that neither noticed Amelia at the top of the stairs.

"Dadddyyyyyyyy, Rowan and DJ are yelling!", she tattled. Rowan turned around in a huff and grabbed Amelia's favorite doll before locking himself in the bathroom.

DJ banged on the door with his fists, yelling, "How long are you gonna stay in there?"

"Forever. Now let me pee in peace", Rowan huffed as he set Amelia's doll on the sink. He just needed a few minutes of complete peace and quiet.

"NO IT'S MY TURN. OPEN THE DOOR", DJ bellowed loud enough for Jack to hear them. Jack ran his fingers through his hair and went upstairs where DJ was pounding his fists on the bathroom door, yelling at Rowan. "You're being a big meanie and I won't want to go to school with you if you make me cry"

"DJ, Dalton James stop. What's the issue here?" Jack questioned as he pulled DJ away from the door. DJ stood against the wall, angry, with his arms folded and a fist balled up. "First of all, unclench the fist. I sure hope you're not thinking of putting your hands on your brother. We use words in this house", Jack explained. "Now calmly tell me what happened so we can fix it"

DJ took a breath and without skipping a beat answered, "Rowan was using mean words and told Amelia that he'd throw away her doll. Then he shut the door in the bathroom and told me he was going to take forever and that's a long long time". Jack closed his eyes and knocked on the door himself only to get no answer in response.

"He taked my doll", Amelia reminded Jack and DJ as she tried to jiggle the doorknob. Jack was running out of patience. He scooped her up and knocked on the door again much to Rowan's displeasure.

Rowan rolled his eyes and snapped, "What?"

Jack decided to handle the situation as calmly as possible, not wanting to agitate anyone further. Both boys' emotions were running high especially after the funeral and a week of being in each other's constant space. He was so grateful that they were going to school today. "Hurry up in there bud okay? I want you downstairs in five minutes with your sister's doll", he warned.

"Fine. I just need five minutes to pee in peace", Rowan muttered from behind the closed door.

Jack turned to DJ next who was standing in the hallway with his mop of blonde hair hanging over his eyes. "DJ, there are three bathrooms you can use in this house. You can use the downstairs one, heck you can even use mine. Just please stop arguing with your brother", he pleaded as DJ got a running start down the hallway before sliding down the bannister much to Jack's dismay. Before he could say anything about it, DJ was already in the bathroom with the door closed. After making sure the kids weren't going to stage a coup, he went back down to the kitchen with Amelia and sighed with relief as he saw a camouflage and a spaceship lunchbox with the boys' monograms on them neatly tucked away in the fridge with a note on top.

Their lunches are ready to go. You'll do great today. -Love you, Andy

Jack shook his head and smiled as he took the note off and zipped the lunchboxes into the boys' new backpacks. Leave it to Andy to pack their lunch the night before and write a note before heading off to work. If he had to do it, the boys would have gotten just chips and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or better yet a crisp five dollar bill for each of them to buy school lunch. "Thank you Andy", he muttered to himself as he put the note in a drawer. "Alright little spider baby, it's time for breakfast", he told Amelia as she tried to climb up a stool and into her booster seat.

Amelia wrinkled her nose and shook her head, "Not a baby. I'm a big girl"

"You're right. I'm sorry munchkin", he smiled as he kissed the top of her head.

"What are we doing today?" Amelia giggled as he set a toaster waffle on the plate in front of her. He scraped two of the slightly overcooked sausages out of the pan and put them on her plate while she simply looked at them and moved them around with her fork before tapping the rock hard waffle against her plate. "No thank you", she stated as she pushed the plate out of the way.

Jack sighed, "I burnt them. I know. Oh well, better overcooked than undercooked". He poured her a dish of cereal before sliding the rest of the slightly less burnt sausages onto the boys' plates. He quickly answered a text from Dean before turning his attention back to Amelia. "You and I are going to go look for cars. Mommy and I really need a minivan so you are going to help me look, and pick one that Mommy might like", he explained. "It just happens that I need someone named Amelia to help me test all the buttons"

"I'm Amelia!", Amelia giggled as Rowan ran down the stairs and took a seat at the table, reluctantly handing over Amelia's doll in the process. She checked it with worry to make sure it was okay as Jack struggled to put her hair in a ponytail. The result was a lopsided hairdo that made her look like a back up dancer from one of the 1980s music videos. She even had the neon outfit to match.

Amelia and Rowan got to eating when DJ came out of the bathroom and went to the kitchen to join them. "About that up there, I'm not in trouble am I? Technically it wasn't my fault" DJ attempted to negotiate as Jack smirked and shook his head

"Huh. You're smart, but also getting screen time taken for the night for yelling at your brother and instigating a fight" Jack answered honestly.

"Why?" DJ asked as he poured a mountain of maple syrup on his waffles and chewed away.

Jack sighed as he poured a cup of coffee into a thermos for himself. That was one thing he wanted to make sure he had with him during the day was a nice cup of coffee. "You called your brother names for one and started an argument when you could have easily used the bathroom down here", Jack explained while DJ sighed reluctantly.

"So then I'm off the hook?" Rowan asked with his fingers crossed behind his back.

"No way. Your words were just as hurtful as his and not to mention you brought your sister into this. No screen time for the rest of the night, both of you" Jack explained "And I don't recommend arguing"

DJ shrugged his shoulders and happily munched away at his waffles, "At least I get to see all my friends today. Roger's going to love my new spaceship backpack that Mommy got me!".

"Ew DJ!", Amelia reminded her brother, reacting to him chewing with his mouth open.

Rowan rolled his eyes, "Shut up Lia. DJ isn't even talking with his mouth full. He had nothing in there, I saw him". Jack gave him the 'That's enough' look for the comment while Rowan sighed. This house already had so many more rules than Jenna's did.

"Want to make it two days Rowan Andrew? I hope this isn't how we want to start our day. Anything bothering you?" Jack asked, hoping to get to the root of Rowan's grumpy demeanor. Maybe it was still grief from the funeral. It had only been a few days since Jenna was buried. "You can tell me if something's up", Jack reminded Rowan.

Rowan chugged down a glass of orange juice and wiped his mouth off before answering, "No. I just don't like it when they invade my privacy"

"What's piracy?", Amelia asked with curiosity.

"It's those big guys with big swords on a super big ship", DJ grinned as he waved around his fork as a sword. "They fight to the death and steal people's gold"

Jack shook his head, trying not to laugh at DJ's explanation, "That's pirates DJ. Amelia, privacy is when a person really wants alone time to do something that they don't need an audience for"

"Is pie-vacy when Rowan is going potty?" Amelia wondered

"Absolutely yes", Rowan answered as Jack nodded affirmatively.

"It's also when mommies and daddies shut the door at night", DJ added with a mouth full of food. "At least that's what Jenna and Carl used to say", he added as Jack laughed.

"Why?" Amelia asked

DJ was about to answer but Jack beat him to it, not knowing what kind of answer he was going to give. "Because we really need our sleep", Jack answered in a way that was truthful but didn't give the answer that Jenna and Carl had implied. He hoped his answer would be good enough to change the subject.

"Oh, okay", Amelia answered as she polished off the rest of her cereal.

Jack looked at the time on the stove. 8:30. "Crap, school starts at 8:30, we're late", he thought to himself as he stood up and helped Amelia out of her booster seat. He left the plates on the counter, making a mental note to clean them when they got home later that afternoon. "Alright crew, let's get our backpacks and get in the car pronto", he stated as he grabbed the keys to Andy's car. "Let's go, let's go", he hurried as the boys put on their backpacks and Amelia grabbed one of her Barbie dolls and a book from the living room for the ride. Rowan was already in the car before Jack reached the car, as was DJ. He took more time and frustration trying to figure out the clips on Amelia's car seat while DJ figured his seatbelt out on his own.

"Dad, do you need help?" Rowan asked

"I got this Rowan, just sit down", Jack answered with a hint of impatience as he looked at his attempt. Both clips were on the opposite side from where they should be.

"Please Dad, Jenna had me help out all the time, so I know how they go", Rowan answered as Jack stepped back to let Rowan handle it. He watched as the clips clicked into the center buckle. "See Dad, piece of cake", Rowan grinned as he handed Amelia back her book.

"Piece of cake", Amelia copied as Jack got in the car and started towards the school.
