The trip to the car dealership was eventful and Jack settled on a sleek white Chevy Suburban with black leather seats. Amelia loved how big it was but unfortunately christened the leather with its first stain after dropping her water bottle on the floor of the car. DJ asked if he could stick his head out of the moonroof while they drove to which Jack refused. Jack loved everyone having their own space instead of being crammed into Andy's hatchback or the Jeep, not that any of the kids minded being crammed into the Jeep. The kids were definitely going to have a more peaceful drive in the van however, now that everyone wasn't constantly on top of each other. Jack tested the new collision warning system when he pulled the van into the driveway, but forgot that the garage door opener hadn't yet been connected. He almost went through the garage door out of pure force of habit, but the car stopped in front on its own. "So glad this actually works", he admired under his breath as the boys got out and ran in the house ahead of him while he stayed behind helping Amelia out of the car.

"We're home!" Rowan yelled as he opened the front door and walked in to see Andy starting on dinner. He smelled whatever was in the oven and whatever it was, smelled amazing. "Mom!", both boys yelled in unison as they discarded the backpacks on the floor and ran up to hug her. Amelia ran in just as Jack was shutting the door and did the same as the boys, only instead of the backpack, she dropped the two Barbie dolls in her hand.

Andy chuckled as she hugged all three kids tightly. "Oh, I missed my boys and my Amelia today", she told them as Jack came behind her and put his arms around her before sharing a quick kiss. "And I missed you too", she laughed as she kissed him back. Both boys rolled their eyes and got settled on a stool. Rowan helped to make sure Amelia didn't fall as she climbed into her booster seat. Andy pulled away from her husband's embrace and made a quick snack of pretzels and apple slices for the kids. "I can't wait to hear all about school", she told them as she set the snack in front of them.

DJ drank all of his Capri-Sun in one sitting and kept reinflating the pouch with his straw until Andy told him to stop and gave him another. "It was so much fun. Everyone was super nice and made a card for me that said how sorry they were that Jenna died. Everyone missed me a whole lot and we got to use sticks in music and make stuff with clay in art. But that's still not the best part! Today was an art, music, and PE day. We only have those on Thursdays", he explained as he shoved two apple slices into his mouth. "But my actual teacher said she wants to meet Dad. I think I'm in big trouble again", he worried.

"DJ, don't worry about it. Mrs. Stephens wants to meet Mom and Dad tomorrow too. I'm not in trouble...I think", Rowan explained, casually leaving out the problems he was having in school with his work effort and his grades that had quite honestly been on the decline since Carl died. He wasn't failing per say, but he wasn't doing his usual straight "A" best either. He had just given up caring when he figured he had much bigger things to worry about; things much too big for a young child to worry about.

Jack smiled and alleviated their fears, "Relax, nobody's in trouble, your teachers just want to meet your mother and I and go over your school history. We're new so they thought it was best for us to see how you guys are doing, just so we can help where you two need help". He then paused and looked towards DJ a bit skeptical, "Wait, what do you mean by 'in trouble again Dalton James?'"

"Nothing, promise", DJ excused as he took a handful of pretzels and shoved them into his mouth.

Andy looked up from chopping celery and arched her eyebrows at DJ. "Uh huh, that better be nothing mister", she told him before glancing over at Jack. "What time tomorrow? I was thinking about taking Amelia on a drive to Tacoma to visit Michelle and her girlfriend. That is if I'm feeling better from whatever this is"

"Eight thirty in the morning. Right when we drop them off", Jack answered as he went into the fridge for one of his canned lemonades. "Marsh said she'd watch Amelia while we do it. We're taking her out to eat to meet the kids tomorrow anyways. She almost had a heart attack when I called her and asked her if she wanted three grandkids after the fire. She's the closest person I have to a mom so why not? She was thrilled", he added, happily thinking back to the conversation with Marsha that he had on the bluetooth in the car. Amelia had gotten excited during the call and told her all about the fire and getting adopted while Jack simply laughed and drove to the boys' school. "Amelia already loves her. You love your new grandmother right Lia?", he asked

Amelia nodded, "I love her so much"

"Speaking of mothers Andy, when are you going to tell your Mom about the kids?" Jack whispered as he grabbed a knife from the console and joined her in chopping the vegetables for dinner. "She has to know at some point. It's not like you can hide them"

"When I'm ready? And I'll be ready when I think she's ready. Remember what happened when I told her we were engaged after a month?", Andy asked as she stopped chopping for a second and turned to face him, with the same pained expression she wore when talking about her mother. "Why should she get to know about my kids? She hasn't exactly been a model mother herself and would only come here to criticize me" Andy stated. "I'd love to see how well she takes, 'Hey Mom, I know we haven't talked since you basically ruined Christmas, but guess what? I'm a mother now to three kids that Jack and I adopted. You know, the ones you met at the Christmas Party where you asked me why their mother dumped them at our place? Yeah, their mother died and we adopted them, not that you would care or even attempt to understand", she whispered as Jack slid the chopping knife away from her, remembering Christmas dinner where she had accidentally cut herself by angry chopping vegetables.

He kissed her on the cheek and wrapped his arms around her waist, causing her to smile. "And you'll tell her that you're already better than she ever was", he told her quietly so the kids wouldn't hear. She kissed him back quickly earning grossed out looks from both boys followed by a very loud and in unison "EW". Andy laughed as she reached up into the cabinet for Amelia's play-doh while Jack went to retrieve the backpacks that had been discarded on the foyer floor by both boys. "Alright, down to business. Does anyone have homework?", he asked as he handed the boys their backpacks.

"Yup. I'm on it", Rowan answered as he unzipped his backpack and pulled out what Jack presumed to be math homework that looked far too complicated for a fifth grader to be doing.

"Nope. Already finished it", DJ lied as he made a beeline for the stairs. He made the mistake of leaving his backpack downstairs with Jack. Jack sifted around and chuckled as he pulled out a crumpled spelling sheet and a map of Seattle that DJ was supposed to label. He held them up as DJ sighed and turned around. "Busted", DJ muttered as stopped on the stairs.

"Back it up mister", Jack warned as DJ turned around and walked backwards to the kitchen. "No homework. Huh. I know this trick, mainly because I've played this before. Park it.", Jack added as DJ reluctantly hopped back up on his stool and took the pencil and the sheets from Jack.

DJ tried to figure out what two plus three was while muttering, "I was so close" under his breath. Jack and Andy couldn't help but laugh. DJ was already trying to pull the wool over their eyes like he used to do when they baby sat them. Nothing had changed with them becoming his parents. "I hate homework", he complained as he rested his cheek on his hand and reluctantly studied the worksheet. Sometimes it was just so hard to focus on something as mundane as a worksheet when there were so many other, more hands-on things he wanted to do.

"Mommy?" Amelia asked as she looked up from her playdoh.

"Yes Lia?" Andy asked as she checked on the homemade mac and cheese dinner in the oven. It still had 10 more minutes to cook. Andy was surprised that it was turning out half as good as it was. She had only recently started to really learn cooking when her and Jack started trying for kids. She had Carina teach her more complex dinners and got more and more successful with them each time she tried to make them. She thought about it this way; she wanted to treat her family to good, balanced dinners rather than something quick and easy.

"We make real cookies?" Amelia asked, pointing to the oven, as Andy hung up her oven mitts on the hook near the stove.

"I know you want to, and we will this week", Andy assured her as she took the forks and spoons out of the silverware drawer. "Can one of you boys set the table?", she asked as Rowan hopped down from his stool. "Thanks buddy"

Rowan held out his hand for Amelia as she scrambled down from the stool. "Want to help me Lia? We'll do it together?", he asked as she readily agreed. Andy smiled as she watched the two of them walk over to the table with the plates and a handful of forks. "DJ, do you want to join us?", Rowan called as DJ hopped down from his stool and met them at the dining room table with all the spoons. Anything to be able to walk away from homework.

When it came time for dinner, everyone sat around the table eating and sharing stories about their day. Andy put some more broccoli on Amelia's plate while she informed the boys about the change in the schedule for the next day. They were seeing Marsha for the first time other than that brief introduction at the wedding. "Daddy and I have an important meeting tomorrow at the boys' school Lia, so you are going to spend the morning with Gigi. Does that sound like fun?", Andy asked as Amelia nodded.

Rowan had the same puzzled look at her. "Who's Gigi?", Rowan asked as he looked up from his plate.

"Gigi is a very special name for a grandmother. You met her when your father and I got married, but only for a second. We invited her to dinner after school tomorrow" Andy answered. "We're going to that seafood place on the bay", she explained, earning groans from the boys who preferred a casual place like Wilson's Diner as opposed to a more formal place like the Elliot Bay Oyster House. Rowan hated dressing up and if Rowan hated it, Andy had a tough time convincing DJ to do it.

"Does that mean we have to get dressed up super nice?" DJ asked, hoping the answer would be no.

Rowan rolled his eyes and snapped, "What do you think stupid? It's Elliot Bay"

Andy narrowed her eyes at him, "Rowan, buddy, what did I say about using the word stupid in our house?" she asked evenly as Rowan went back to eating his dinner. She didn't look entirely pleased by what she was hearing, especially after being told about what happened with the bathroom in the morning.

"Oh me! Me!", yelled Amelia waving her hand in the air frantically as if she was being quizzed on the answer to an important question. When Andy and Jack ignored her, she answered anyways, "It's meaaannn", she stressed with emphasis on the mean as Rowan stuck his tongue out at her. "You're not being nice Rowan", she yelled.

"Neither are you", Rowan fired back as Amelia prepared to say something but was interrupted by Jack

"Rowan. Amelia. Enough", Andy warned as Amelia went back to eating her dinner. "Lia's right though Rowan, stupid is a very mean word that I don't like us using. I don't want to hear you call your brother that again, especially since you've already had screen time taken away from what Daddy told me today." Andy reminded him

"He was being such a booger. I had to", Rowan explained as Andy gave him a look. Rowan rolled his eyes and ate the rest of his dinner. There were never as many rules at Jenna's. Watch the little kids, clean up after dinner. It was all foreign to him. Having a routine where everything had its time and place, and the sheer concept of being grounded was brand new. He missed the fun Jack that used to play football in the yard and fun Andy who used to sit with him and make these cool structures out of Legos. She still did that but he wasn't quite warmed up to the fact that they were now his parents and had authority over what he did or said for that matter. Even if they were the best parents he's ever had.

DJ grinned from ear to ear as he happily took another helping of the crescent rolls Andy made. "Who wants to hear how I kicked a goal in gym class?", he asked

"I'd love to DJ", Andy smiled, grateful that DJ changed the subject. "Was today a soccer day in gym?"

"Yeah and I kicked a goal so hard that I knocked over the little goal net my teacher put out", DJ laughed, proud of himself. "Everyone cheered super loud and one of the popular kids wanted to play with me at recess. He only puts the best people on his kickball team"

"Sounds fun", Andy replied before she looked over at Jack. "How was car shopping?", she asked. "Did you pick a good one?"

"Oh you bet we did, right Amelia?" Jack asked with a smirk. Amelia nodded and attempted to look out the window for the car which now sat in the garage. "Our new car is white with black leather seats. There's seating for nine and plenty of room for everyone's things unlike the Jeep or your Prius. It has heated seats, lane assist, and a back up camera which DJ wanted to see right away", Jack described as Andy listened intently. It was fun for her to see her husband all hyped up over the new family car. She laughed when the kids stopped eating their mac and cheese to talk over each other about how great the first ride was. "I got a car with the best surround sound, but passed on the TV. Now with iPads and phones, the kids will have that anyways on any road trip we go on"

Andy smiled when he said that as she thought it was the perfect segway into what she wanted to say next. "That reminds me, speaking of iPhones. I have a surprise for someone at this table", Andy explained as all three of the kids looked at eachother.

"Presents?", DJ asked with a smile

Andy shook her head and got up to go into the kitchen for her pocketbook. She smiled as she pulled a bag from under the island. She had made sure to hide it in a place where Amelia couldn't get it, especially since the ever curious toddler had a penchant for pulling everything out of cabinets recently. She brought it back to the table excitedly and pulled out a silver iPhone box. "Now, your father and I talked about it and we know that Jenna didn't allow you to have a cell phone. You're 11 and it's something that we think you need. That way if you're ever stuck at a friend's or you want to go somewhere with a friend afterschool, you can tell us", she explained as Rowan happily took the box and ran over to hug them. "You can use it starting tomorrow okay?", Andy wondered

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I promise I won't ruin it", he assured Andy as she put the box back into the bag.

DJ started jealously whining, "That's no fair, when can I have a cell phone?"

"When you're older", Andy answered

DJ looked at the clock on the dining room wall and watched the minute hand tick by, "But I'm older now"

Andy laughed and messed up his hair while he slunk deeper into his chair while crossing his arms. "Not what I meant. You'll have one too someday. I got you this video game in the meantime. Maybe you'll like it", she explained as she handed him the Animal Crossing game. He looked it over and hugged her. "Come on buddy, you couldn't have honestly thought I would buy something for your brother and not you right?", she asked as DJ hugged her again.

"I love it Mommy! Thank you", DJ answered as he flipped over the case to see all the things he could do with the game. If he wasn't grounded, he would have played the game that night.

In the meantime, Andy handed Amelia a light up coloring board. Andy figured it was the perfect thing to buy Amelia since no matter how much she tried to color off the board, the mess would stay on the board. "And this is yours baby girl", she explained as Amelia shook the box and shrugged her little shoulders.

"There's nothing in here", she told them with a disappointed look. Jack chuckled and used a knife to help her open the box. Amelia's eyes lit up when he pulled out the board. "Thank you Mommy!", she thanked as she scrambled into Andy's lap to hug and kiss her while Andy laughed.

Jack sat quietly for a minute and just enjoyed watching the kids get their presents. He shared a look with Andy who nodded at him in silent agreement that they made the right decision with surprising the kids today. They had done pretty good with going with the flow and adjusting for the week and two days that they lived there. He loved seeing the smiles on their faces and each of them looking so happy as they talked with each other about their gifts. Amelia went on and on about coloring on her new toy while Rowan talked with DJ about all the cool inventive apps he was going to download. "I'm glad you guys enjoy your gifts. That's for doing so good going with the flow this week and holding on like troopers during everything with Jenna. We're so proud of you three", he told them.

Later on that night, after the table was cleared and homework was done, the kids went upstairs to play Go Fish! In Amelia's room. While the kids played, Jack helped Andy clean the dishes from dinner and pack the lunches for tomorrow. Jack looked at Andy with concern; she appeared fine through dinner but he could tell that something was off. What Maya said earlier about her being sick and wanting to work through it was weighing on him. He shook his head as he thought about it; sometimes she could be so stubborn. "How are you feeling?", he asked as he put a stack of dishes away in the cabinet.

"How did you know I still wasn't feeling well?", she asked.

He leaned over and kissed her, "You're my wife. You're not that hard to read"

"You're funny. Yeah, no I feel like shit", she explained, grateful that there were no kids in earshot to hear her curse. "I threw up three more times after you left and then I went home. I still feel gross", Andy explained as she packed the leftover Mac and Cheese into DJ's lunch container.

"Why didn't you let me cook then?" he asked with concern as he put his hands around her waist, and she laughed and turned to him.

"I really don't want the guys called to our still very new house to put out a kitchen fire. Hang on a minute, yup that dinner's swimming upstream", she answered as she broke from his grip and held onto the countertop. She was starting to feel nauseous yet again and her head was pounding.

"Are you sure you're okay? You don't look okay" he asked as she steadied herself and nodded.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. It's just food poisoning. I promise", she answered as she swallowed two ibuprofen tablets. She tried to hold her breath as she topped off the Mac and Cheese in Rowan's lunch container. She inhaled as the container shut and once the smell of the food drifted up her nose, the metal container went clattering to the floor with a thud as she went with it.

Jack went over to her almost immediately and checked her pulse. "Andy, Andy can you hear me?", he asked with no answer. Praying the kids weren't on their way downstairs, Jack picked up his phone and called 911 while trying to get her to wake up. His hands were shaking as he pressed the buttons and he breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her eyes open. She was breathing and she was waking up, but he wanted to get help just to be on the safe side. He waited for what seemed like an eternity before the 911 dispatcher picked up. "Hello? Hi, I need help. My wife just fainted in the kitchen. Yes there's a pulse and she's breathing but it looks like her BP is erratic. I'm a firefighter at Station 19. We both are. Send them with the PRT as fast as you can", Jack practically yelled into the phone. "We're 456 Elliot St.". He didn't even register that Andy was awake until she reached up and touched his arm. "Andy?", he asked

"Jack?", she called completely out of it as she heard him shout some more into the phone. "What happened?"

"Andy? Oh my God, never do that to me again. Are you okay?" he asked as he helped her into a kitchen chair.

Andy squinted at the bright light over the island, "I'm just really tired. I don't know what's wrong. I put Rowan's lunch away and I felt nauseous"

Jack sighed with relief. Not only was Andy awake but she was semi aware of what she was doing and feeling prior. He held her hand in his and smiled,"You'll be okay. I called 911 and they're on their way. They're dispatching Ben and I'll go with you"

"You can't, the kids. It's a school night. Someone needs to stay here with them", she replied weakly, worrying more about them than herself.

Jack brushed aside a lock of her hair and kissed her, "Don't strain yourself. I have it figured out. The kids are upstairs in Lia's room right now playing a game". He didn't want to worry her and send her blood pressure skyrocketing again. He texted Maya to come stay and let out a long breath as Ben came through the door. He was surprised when Maya followed in too, nearly out of breath. "Bishop? I just texted you, what are you doing here?", Jack wondered as Ben brought in a gurney and helped Andy onto it.

"I was leaving for the night when I heard Ben and Teddy were called out. I ran down here when Jones told me it was your house. Then I saw your text. What's going on here? Is Andy okay?" Maya asked as the kids came bounding down the stairs arguing over who cheated at Go Fish. When they arrived at the bottom of the stairs it was a sight that would replay over and over again in Jack and Andy's minds for the next 24 hours. The three kids at the bottom of the stairs were staring at Andy as Ben affixed an oxygen mask to her face. Nobody moved, nobody talked for a second of pure agonizing silence as Andy looked back at them and then at Maya. Maya positioned herself next to the kids, ready for the ensuing questions and chaos that was about to befall the Gibson house. "I got them", she assured Jack when he started over towards the stairs.

"MOMMYYYYY", Amelia screamed in near hysterics at the top of her little lungs. She started running for Andy as Maya picked her up mid-sprint. "MOMMAAA", she yelled again, before breaking into heavy sobs. "Stop it. Put me down", she cried, her tears already soaking the shoulder of Maya's shirt.

"Dad, what happened to Mom?" Rowan yelled with tears in his eyes as he turned to Jack who couldn't form a reasonable answer for what had happened. He didn't even know himself to tell the truth and the last thing he wanted to do was scare the kids after all they had been through. He wanted to wait to talk to them until he had all the facts. "Where is Mom going? You need to tell me right now. Is Mom hurt? Is….is she dying?", Rowan wondered worriedly and angrily. "Dad?", Rowan questioned again when Jack didn't answer him and simply mouthed to Maya to "do something". Maya held her hands up in frustration and tried unsuccessfully to get Amelia to stop crying by swaying her body.

"Yeah Daddy, where are you taking Mommy? Is she going to the 'mergency room?" DJ furthered wondering if his father would answer him instead. His eyes pleaded for answers and like Rowan, he had a million questions for the adults. Seeing that his brother was anxious, DJ walked over to Rowan and hugged him. "I'm really scared", he whispered, looking up at Rowan. "I know. It'll be okay", Rowan answered while putting an arm around DJ. Rowan did his best to let DJ know that everything was going to be okay even if he didn't believe that himself. He reverted to his old tendencies of putting aside his fears to worry about his siblings first. "I don't wanna lose another Mommy", DJ whispered again while wiping his tears and snot away on his shirt sleeve. Rowan nodded and put his finger in front of his lips, letting DJ know that it was time to be quiet.

Jack picked up how anxious the boys were and could see Amelia shaking in Maya's arms while Maya ran her fingers through her hair in an effort to calm her. Andy attempted to remove her oxygen mask so she could talk to the kids but Jack stopped her. "Keep that on. I got them", he told her before kneeling down to the kids' level. "Ok, I know this seems bad you guys, but Mommy's going to be fine. She wants to tell you guys but Daddy won't let her right now. She's feeling a little sick so she's going to go to the doctor. We'll be back before you know it. Promise", he assured them.

"Cross your heart and hope to die?", DJ asked

"Where did you learn that? And, yes. I promise", Jack added. He watched anxiously as Maya put Amelia on the floor and went over to ask him a few questions, none of which he knew the answers to. Both adults watched helplessly as Amelia went over to Rowan who had his free arm waiting for her. Jack's heart broke, and he knew that stance all too well. "I don't know what happened Mai, just….she'll be fine. She's awake and talking and is, oh boy, giving me those dagger eyes right now", he told Maya. "She's still her stubborn self, so that's good right?"

Rowan stared at the door, horrified, while Ben started to get ready to take Andy out. Rowan broke free from his siblings and glared at Jack. "You said Jenna would be fine but she died. You're a liar and you're just going to lie again!", he yelled, scaring DJ and Amelia. Maya could see the pain in his eyes and just embraced him. Every inch of Andy's body wanted to jump up and hug her kids but the lightheadedness kept her down. What was supposed to be a fun family night where they talked about school and played a board game, had turned into chaos.

"I WANT MY MOMMY!", Amelia yelled while trying to run out the door after Andy. Maya scooped her up again and tried to comfort her to no avail. "PUT ME DOWN AUNT MAYA!" Amelia screamed at the top of her lungs as she pounded her fists into Maya's shoulder blades. Maya looked at Jack and then Andy with eyes that demanded answers. He looked both defeated and hurt with his wife alert and being rushed out of the house by ambulance and their kids hysterical. He had a feeling that this was going to be a very long night.

"Gibson?" she asked firmly as he shook his head; it was too clouded with thoughts to even think clearly. "What actually happened? What aren't you telling me?"

"She fainted in the kitchen. Maya, please, just stay tonight and watch the kids. I'll be back in the morning" Jack pleaded. "Emergency numbers are on the fridge. I really don't want to interrupt Marsha on her drive back if I can help it. No sugar after 7:30, and it is 7:30 and bedtime is 8:30, but DJ will tell you it's one in the morning and that he's allowed to play video games before bed, neither of which is true. Amelia's closet gets sprayed for monsters at night and if you need help with the goodnight song we always sing to her, Rowan's an old pro. And no liquids before bedtime for Amelia or she will wet the bed. Got it?", he summarized in what Maya thought was a single breath.

"Go be with Andy. We'll be fine here. Give me updates okay? That's an order from you chief", she answered shakily as she turned around to Andy. "You better come back here. Tomorrow. That's an order too". She held all three kids close as Jack went up to each of them and kissed them goodbye with the exception of Rowan who backed away from him. That was understandable considering everytime that boy had been lied to and what he had been through at his age. "I'll talk to them in a few minutes when they've had time to think about what they just saw. We'll be okay", she assured him.

Jack smiled, silently thanking her. "Be good for Aunt Maya you guys, okay? Get ready for school tomorrow, have the listening ears turned on DJ, and Lia honey, I promise Aunt Maya will read Good Night Moon", he reminded the kids before walking out the door. "I love you all so much and Mommy does too"

"We love you too", they answered in unison while watching Jack hop into the ambulance and then the ambulance pull away from the house with all the lights on.
