Edith pulled herself up the thickest part of the plant which almost resembled a very bent tree trunk, and began to pick her way around thorns from a near rose bush. A piece of bark snagged at her stockings, "Damn!"

She pulled her leg away and that only seemed to make things worse, Edith had managed to tear a huge rip into them and was quite sure she now had a huge scratch up her leg which hurt. "OW! Ahh - argh!" Huffing, Edith continued to climb. She remembered climbing trees in the grounds of Downton to be a lot more enjoyable, but then, she had been twelve the last time she had done that and had been hiding from Nanny, this also felt a lot less honourable and a lot more precarious.

Edith silently reminded herself it would be a good thing if she wasn't heard. She was now standing on top of the garden wall and was able catch her breath briefly before she reached out for the ledge of the living-room bay window holding tight to the wisteria before she pulled herself up it. She was now directly under Anthony's room where the light had been on. Now it wasn't, which was practical. But there was still light aiding Edith from a post outside the property.

If she stretched herself to her full height, keeping balance, Edith could press her ear against the glass of the bedroom window... There were two of them in that room. Her face went hard, she just knew who was with the man that she loved.

Pressing her ear hard she could hear laughter. Gasping, she peered up through the glass, the curtains were half pulled and a warm light was now peering back at her. She tried the window, it was shut, but it was weak. Edith saw the handle from the inside had been pulled down half-heartedly, so she put her fingers up the frame and shook firmly for a minute until the handle fell. Chest thudding, thumping, Edith held her breath and pulled the window out, then gripping the inside of the frame, heaved her self up and into Anthony's room.

Just as she was about to land a foot somewhat gently on the windowsill she lost her balance and tumbled face first through the curtains and into the room.

Sir Anthony jumped, Margaret froze.
