Lord Grantham was red in the face "I won't believe it! Not for a... purple moon!" He huffed and paced, chest heaving, he attempted to sit down before jumping back up in fury. "And I say you still stand here WHILE MY DAUGHTER AND THIS MAN ARE GOD KNOWS WHERE! They could be lying dead in a ditch for-

"Robert!" Cora cried, clutching a peach coloured shawl Sergeant Willis had given them to recognise. It was Edith's.

"Sergeant you embarrass yourself to need me order you HAVE YOUR MEN LOOKING!"

"They are, M'lor-"

"You say you arrested Lady Edith for nothing you knew she had done-"

"M'lord we had reason to be-"

"Well you bloody well have reason to find her now! What kind of police lets a Lady escape? Oh good God, Edith!" Lord Grantham was spluttering in rage, a vein was prominent on his temple as he roared unpredictably.

"M'lord we will leave now and return when we have more news," Sergeant Willis rushed out of the living-room with his men.

"There goes the next one!" Robert looked up at his wife with his countenance irate. "I just don't understand - was she bored?" He looked at the floor and blew out, "...was she bored of all this like Sybil was?"

"Robert, don't say that. There's more to this, I don't think we've talked to her enough about everything - oh - me. Her own mother." Cora shut her eyes and shook her head in grief. "How could I not know, my own daughter-"

Roberts face fell as he calmed down slightly feeling a pang of remorse for his wife. Just then Carson re-entered the room out of breath, still shaken. "M'lord I just checked the men's hall - Bernes is missing."

"No! The man was the new chauffeur?" Cora was stunned.

"Hell's bells!"

The three of them stood in the library looking very stricken for a few long minutes. Then Mary came into the room. "What?"

"Sweetie... your sister... is missing."

Mary paused. "... Is that all? Because I was sleeping," she rolled her eyes and turned.

"Mary - I will thank you to look more shaken at such news concerning your sister!"

"Edith? Don't make me laugh, Mamma -"

"She's missing!" Cora hissed disapprovingly. "Her and the chauffeur are nowhere to be seen. They vanished from Loxley."

"O-ah!" Mary scoffed, "don't you see Mamma? She's just so blatantly attention-seeking - and what really makes it ridiculous is that she couldn't think of anything much better as to copy Sybil's footsteps."

"Oh, it's not like that, don't be so spiteful!

"Oh for goodness' sake. She'll turn up. And Pappa, you really shouldn't have bothered having the police go out looking, she's having a little thrill, don't ruin it for her."

Robert stared back gravely. "They're looking for her, because she's under arrest."

"Edith?" Mary stopped. "My - what's she done?"

"It seems she intruded Anthony."

"Well, I knew it wasn't anything exciting. And if that doesn't say attention-seeking then I don't know what does. I'm going back to bed."

Her parents stared after Mary in shock as she went to the door.

After a moment of insecure silence Robert sighed, "well, I don't know about you but that's reassured me a little."
