Chapter 2: The Rabbit and The Cat
I didn't know what I was doing. My body moved on its own as it went after the rabbit. The book was right though, she was the rabbit with the heroic heart, and maybe she could help me solve the riddle about the creature who is soft and innocent but has a heart filled with darkness, along with finding this key that the creature has. I couldn't keep up as these small cat-like legs of mine weren't going any faster as that rabbit was getting further away from me. Something crossed my mind, I know I wasn't human in this city and this new body of mine was animal-like, so maybe I should try and look the part. I know it probably sounds weird, but I had to try something or else I'll lose that rabbit. As I continued to run, I made a small jump and landed on all-fours as I ran much faster than normal.
Wow, I guess being an animal in a world like this has its perks, might as well make the most of it.
As I made it to what would probably be the central part of the city, I ran past the smaller mammals and went under the legs of bigger ones while saying, "Excuse! Pardon me! Gang way! Coming through!"
I stopped as I looked in all directions, then my cat-like ears heard sirens as I looked and found both the rabbit and the weasel. The weasel ran under a police car while I saw a male rhino cop coming out, then the rabbit jumped as she ran on the car and jumped off it, still in pursuit with that weasel as the rhino joined her. I continued my pursuit as I ran as fast as both my arms and legs could carry me. Going around, I saw what looked like a fence or something as the rhino was too big to go over, but I had a hunch that rabbit and weasel did.
Now, this part of my story is where things start to not only go weird, but awkward at the same time. I continued to run on all fours while I heard the rhino say, "Hey, meter maid! Wait for the real cops!" Then, as I jumped, my claws unsheathed as they dung through the clothes of that rhino as I started climbing on him while he cried out, "Ow! Ow! Hey, what the-"
"Sorry and excuse me!" I said as he didn't see me on his shoulder as I made a leap over the fence.
Unfortunately, there was a very old saying "look before you leap" and I didn't realize until now how big of a jump that was as I was sailing over a small city which was another thing I never realized as I was sailing into the air with that rhino behind me yelling, "Hey!"
Knowing too late how high I was, my descent was imminent as I muttered, "Oh no!" While I was falling and screaming, I saw the rabbit as she looked at me. "Look out!"
The rabbit yelped as I crashed into her. We both rolled on the small road until we came to a stop. "Ow!" she cried in pain.
We both grunted in pain as we looked at one another. Now that I got a pretty close-up look at her face. Her eyes were purple while she had grey fur with the exception of her long ears since the tip of it was black, a lighter shade of grey on her muzzle, and she had a pink nose. Giving a small chuckle, I gave her a small wave and said, "Uh, hi."
Her eyes glared at me as she shoved me off while saying, "Get off of me!"
Now that I got a better look at what she was wearing. She wore dark-blue pants with metal knee pads attached to them, a blue shirt that was over a Kevlar stab vest with a golden police badge attached to it, black coverings around her wrists and ankles, and a black utility belt with a silver buckle. "What're you doing here?" she asked me.
"Well I-"
"Oh, forget it!" The rabbit cop quickly got up. "I'll deal with you later, just stay here and wait!"
She went after the weasel while I said, "Wait, I can help!" The rabbit cop was already away from me. Grunting, I stood back up, but something crossed my mind. How am I supposed to help that rabbit cop if I caught the weasel first? I'm pretty much useless since I never fought anyone before and using this book to defend myself will be a bad idea 'cause I don't wanna risk damaging it. Looking around, I noticed there were a lot of small cars here and there. They were pretty cute as they looked more like toy cars.
An idea formed as I hummed and placed a finger under my chin while I gave a small smile.
The rabbit managed to catch-up with the weasel while watching where she stepped as she didn't want to accidentally step on any rodents. Luckily for her, nobody got hurt since that cat-girl came out of nowhere and crashed onto her. Honestly though, who was that kid and what business did she have with interfering with police business? Nevertheless, she'll have to find out about that later. For now, she had to focus on catching that weasel.
The weasel, who was a male looked back at the cop with those red eyes for a moment, seeing that she was catching up with him and turned his attention away. His fur was brown while he had a cream color on his muzzle and underbelly, and he wore a white sleeveless shirt, and black shorts with red and white stripes. Wanting to get away faster, he jumps and lands his feet on two rodent vehicles, and uses them like roller skates while one of the rodents inside a vehicle screams. Turning around to face the cop while he continued to skate, he laughed at her.
As he put enough distance between himself and that cop, he ditched the two rodent vehicles and came across a row of rodent apartment buildings. He goes in between those buildings and places an orange bag on the rooftops. It contained something which he stole back at the florist shop. Quickly climbing on the rooftops of the small buildings, he picks up the bag, just as the rabbit cop manages to catch-up with him again, then runs across those small rooftops and jumps towards a railroad. Believing that he finally lost her as he was running across the railroad and towards a bridge, he climbed on that bridge and was about to make his getaway…
That was until something hard hit the side of his head. "Ow! What the-"
"Bullseye!" A young girl's voice said.
The weasel rubs the side of his head as he sees a young female tabby cat he's never seen before. What was she doing here and why was this kid tangling with him?
Tracy had an armful of cars that she recently had to borrow while making sure no mouse or any kind of rodent was inside it before she took it. Taking another car, she tossed it at the weasel, but he ducked while moving away as he caught a glimpse of that car while it was sailing away. Turning his attention back to her with glaring eyes, he says, "Did you just throw a car at me?"
She throws another one as he ducks again.
"What, do you wanna throw cars? Go ahead, throw another one!"
She throws another car as he ducks for the third time. He chuckles at her and says, "Miss me-Ow!"
She quickly threw another car right at his face while his attention was distracted from the previous car that was thrown as he fell off the bridge and landed on the railroad. He grunts while rubbing his forehead, then glares at the girl who was holding another car in her paw. A train horn honks as he looks behind him and sees a rodent-sized train coming at him. He gives a small yelp as he quickly picks up his bag and jumps as his feet land on the moving train. "Later kid!" He gives a small chuckle.
However, out of shock while he had already passed the tunnel, the kid had leaped off the bridge and landed at the very end of the train. Seriously? Whoever she was, this kid was relentless.
Back with the rabbit, the weasel had already pushed a building after jumping towards the railroad and long before he met the human-turned-cat Tracy. The building teetered over and like dominoes they crashed side by side as each one was falling over. Not wanting to see any of those rodents inside those buildings or the ones outside of them get hurt, she goes in between a building and soon-to-be-teetered-over-the-side building, and places her feet there while grunting from the slightly heavy weight. Giving a good push, the buildings were placed back in their right places. By the time she got off the small building, she cried out, "Oh!" Seeing a bunch of mice who were screaming and panicking as they ran amok here and there, and she was lucky she didn't step on any of them. Stepping over each of them, she tells them, "Sorry. Coming through. Excuse me. Excuse me. Pardon."
She climbs on the railroad, only for her keen ears to hear a train horn honk and a familiar voice shouting, "Head's up!"
She looks and sees a rodent-sized train coming her way, along with the weasel who was riding it. She yelps as she quickly jumps off the railroad and rolls on the ground, then she sees the weasel riding off. However, her eyes widened when she saw that kid riding at the back of it while the weasel said to her, "Bon voyage-e, flatfoot!"
She growls at the weasel and goes after him while saying, "I thought I told her to stay put!"
As Tracy continued to ride at the back of the moving train, she was going to throw another car at the weasel, only to realize she only had one left. Seeing that she only had one car left, the weasel laughs and says to her, "What's wrong, ran out of cars to throw?"
Her eyes widened as she saw tubes coming their way. "Yikes!" She yelped as she quickly got down to her stomach and covered her head with her paws.
"Huh?" The weasel was confused by her sudden ducking as he turned around, only to gasp as he saw a tube and quickly ducked his head. More tubes came his way and thanks to his slender body, he managed to slip past the first three tubes while holding onto the bag, then jumped the last one. He looked behind him to see if he lost that kid, but to his surprise, she was already in that same position. Luckily for Tracy, her small cat body managed to easily go under those tubes.
Looking ahead, he yelps as he sees that rabbit cop who managed to catch-up with him as she was hanging upside down by a tube while having her paws out.
She grabbed the weasel by the throat as she swung, then was tossed into the air with him along with her as Tracy saw those two sail into the air and quickly got off the train.
(Tracy)
After that fiasco came to an end, I went around some buildings until at a distance I saw both the rabbit and weasel, who had landed close to some small donut shop. Putting the last car in my jacket pocket, I got on all-fours and took off while the rabbit had already got up and was going after the weasel while she said, "Hey, stop right there!"
"Have a donut with that kid with you, copper!"
I saw him kick off a donut sign with the rabbit yelping as she looked at me, but my eyes saw three female shrews coming out of a store as that big donut was bouncing towards them. I didn't think as my body moved towards them, just as the two shrews noticed that big donut as they screamed and ran away. The third female who had black hair and a green dress while holding some red bags, saw that donut as she screamed and covered her head.
At the exact same time, me and rabbit managed to catch that donut before it had a chance to crush her, which to my surprise I didn't know that rabbit would move that fast. Getting a better look at that female shrew, I was almost tempted to coo at how cute she looked at that size while I noticed her dress had dark green clovers on it and a dark teal strap tied to a knot, and she had a necklace, bracelets, and golden hoop earrings. She looked at me first with those small light-blue eyes as I said to her, "You okay?"
She nodded her head as she looked at the rabbit, who said to the shrew, "I love your hair."
The little shrew twirled her hair, flattered. "Aw...Thank you."
She took the donut and went after the weasel. Looking at the small shrew, I gave her a double thumbs-up and said, "By the way, you look really cute in that dress."
As I backed away from her, she waved at me while saying, "Oh, thank you, young lady."
Taking off to where that rabbit was going, I quickly took the car out of my pocket, just as I saw the rabbit taking that big donut sign and shoving it in the middle of his body while yelping in the process. With a good toss, the small car I had sent sailing straight at his face, knocking him down as that same car landed at his face again. I whooped in the air and yelled, "Woo-hoo! Ah, yeah, in your face weasel! We sure showed you!"
I heard the rabbit clear her voice as I looked at her. She had an unamused look on her face while her paws were at her hips and her foot was tapping.
With a small chuckle and grin, I gave her a small wave and said, "Uh, hi again, Officer Rabbit."
I wasn't sure if that was her real name or not, but that look she was giving me was still plastered on her face as she sighed and crossed her arms while tapping her fingers.
Oh, boy, I knew that I was in a heap of trouble.
What will happen to her now that she's managed to find the rabbit cop and helped her catch the weasel? Find out in the next chapter!
