So, without further ado, let's jump right in.

Chapter 2: In the Light of Day

As Wanda walked out of the dark room into the lighted hallway, she glanced up at Xavier's smiling face and she felt more comfortable than she had since coming here. But as soon as she saw one of the doctors who worked here, she tightened the grip she had on Xavier's hand. She felt her heart starting to race. She felt her powers starting to activate.

"Wanda, calm down." Came Xavier's voice in her head. "I won't let any harm come to you, you're safe with me." She started calming down a little, but still clung to Xavier. The only evidence of her powers showing were a few blinking lights.

Mr. Claremont looked in astonishment at how Xavier had gained the trust of this little girl who had been doing everything in her power to avoid any contact with anyone from his staff.

"Well Mr. Claremont, I believe we shall be on our way." Xavier said calmly.

"Why yes, of course. I'll inform the staff of this right away." He said before walking away.

"So, this is Wanda Maximoff?" Came a voice to her left and Wanda backed away in fear at the sight of this woman.

"Don't worry Wanda." Xavier said calmy. "This is Ororo Munroe, a close friend of mine. She won't hurt you."

Wanda calmed down upon hearing that. Ororo smiled warmly at her almost like a mother would with her own child. Soon they started walking to the front door.

Wanda held on to Xaviers hand the entire walk towards the door. She still felt uncomfortable around here. "Don't worry Wanda, soon you'll free from this place." Came Xavier's calming voice in her head.

After a few minutes of walking, they came to the front door. The same front door Wanda had been dragged through when she got here. Ororo stooped and said something to the guards at the door but Wanda was more focused on the double steel doors that would lead to her freedom and away from this hell.

After Ororo had stopped talking to the guards they opened the doors. Wanda was blinded by the first sunlight she had seen in over a month but when her eyes had adjusted to the light, her spirit soared as she beheld the blue sky.

"I can't believe it." she thought to herself as she pushed her black hair out of her eyes. "I'm finally free." She closed her eyes, smiled and basked in the warmth of the sun. She felt a few tears in her eyes.

Xavier and Ororo smiled at the scene before them. Happy to see Wanda smile after what she had been through.

"Well, shall we get going?" Xavier asked. Wanda dried her eyes and turned to nod at the two.

After a few hours of driving, the trio arrived back at the Xavier mansion. During the way home, Xavier had tried to get Wanda too open up more but she remained mostly silent. It was understandable though, he guessed that she still didn't trust them fully and would need time before she could truly open up to others.

When Wanda stepped out of the car, she looked in awe at the mansion.

"This is where you live?" Wanda asked, still in shock.

"Yes, it's an old family home." Xavier said as he wheeled up beside her. "Now before we go in, you should know that there are a few other people living here." Wanda tensed up at hearing that. Even before her dad put her in the asylum, she never really interacted with anyone other than her family.

"Don't be scared." Ororo said as she walked up beside her. "They are all very friendly, I'm sure you'll get along fine with them." Wanda heard what Ororo said but was still very nervous about meeting new people. But she swallowed that fear as the three of them went inside.

If Wanda was in awe at the outside than the same applied to the inside. She had never been inside such a huge place before.

"Well Wanda, I'll show you too one of the bathrooms where you can get cleaned up while I get some clothes for you." Ororo said as she led her up the stairs.

"Okay." Wanda said gently. They walked down a hall before she was shown into a small bathroom. Ororo filled the tub with hot water before taking a few bottles of the shelf and placing them on the tub's counter.

"This you can use one your hair and this is a nice scented bubble bath." She leaned down and whispered "I like to use it at times to relax."

"Alright... thanks." Wanda replied. Ororo smiled and nodded before walking out of the room.

Wanda got rid of her clothes and picked up the bottle that would give her a bubble bath. As soon as the bubbes appeared, she stepped into the tub. Feeling the hot water on her skin gave her the first real warmth she had felt in a month. She leaned back in the tub and relaxed with a smile on her face.

Ororo went to look for Jean and found her in the music room along with Laura. Jean was practicing on the piano with Laura watching. Jean was doing okay but kept missing a few of the notes.

"Jean, Laura, can I talk with you two for a moment?"

"Okay." Jean and Laura said simultaneously.

"What's up." Laura asked. "Does my dad need us or something?"

"No, not now anyway. The professor gained a new student, she's washing up right now and she could use some spare clothing from you two until tomorrow."

"Wait, what? What happened to her own clothing?" Laura asked. Ororo told them both Wanda's story. This shocked both the girls to hear that a child had been through something like that.

"Oh god, I... I don't know what to say." Jean said.

"I know what to say." Laura said angerly as she popped out her claws. "I say we find Magneto and make him pay for what he did to her!"

Jean and Ororo were shocked at what Laura had said but Ororo did somewhat agree with her. But for the moment they had other concerns.

"While I agree that Magneto deserves to be punished, we don't even know where he's hiding." Ororo explained calmly to Laura, who calmed down a little and withdrew her claws. "And besides, at the moment, Wanda needs all the help she can get right now. She's been through things that no child should have to experience."

Jean and Laura looked at each other before looking at Ororo with smiles on their faces "Well, we'll help out any way we can. I'll go and get some of my clothes for her right away." Jean said before she ran off to her room

"Yeah, I'll do that to." Laura said before she followed Jean's lead and ran off too her own room. Both of them couldn't believe that Magneto had done something like that to his own daughter. Just dump her of at some asylum was unthinkable to them. Jeans parents were understanding of her gifts and Logan had raised Laura on his own as best he could.

Both of the girls arrived in their rooms and picked out several clothes for Wanda to wear, while thinking about how things would be now that she's going to be living with them for the foreseeable future.

Wanda felt like she was in heaven. She felt clean for the first time in a long time. She just leaned back in the tub and relaxed. The coldness of her cell becoming nothing more than a distant memory. She was still afraid of waking up and finding herself back in cell.

Before she could dwell on that, there came a knock on the door. "Wanda, it's me." Came Ororo's voice. "I brought you some clothes. Can I put them in?"

Wanda felt a little vulnerable at the moment but since there was a mountain of bubbles covering her, she should be fine.

"Sure!" she shouted. Ororo walked in and smiled at seeing Wanda relax with a bubble bath. She put the clothes she had been given from Jean and Laura on chair.

"I'll just leave these here and see if your old clothes are still usable." she said as she picked up her old clothes. Seeing those clothes however, made Wanda flashback to the asylum and quickly turned her head away from them.

"Burn them." Wanda said softly to Ororo's surprise. "Burn them and throw them away. I don't wanna see those clothes again." She glanced back to see that Ororo had a confused expression so she elaborated. "They remind me of... of that... place." Ororo nodded in understanding before leaving without another word.

After she had cleaned herself, Wanda dried and put on her temporary clothes. Looking at herself in the mirror, she studied her features. Her black hair looked a little ruffled and long, due to not getting it clipped in a month. Her blue eyes stared back at her with confusion and worry for what would happen next in her life.

"Wow, you look good." came a voice from the door, making Wanda jump in surprise, which caused her powers to activate and making the building shake a little. Standing in the doorway was Laura and Jean.

"Wow, hey, calm down." Jean tried to assure Wanda. "We live here. I'm Jean Grey and this is Laura Logan." She gestured to her friend who had spoken up to Wanda in the first place. Laura smirked and gave a two-finger salute.

Wanda calmed down a little and shyly said, "My... my name is... Wanda Maximoff."

"Yeah, we know, Ororo already told us." Laura said before her face became grim. "And just so you know, if I ever see your dad walking down the street, I'm gonna kill him right then and there!" she shouted the last part to the shock of Jean and Wanda.

Jean coughed in her hand to dispel her friend's outburst. "While I wouldn't go that far, I do agree, no child should have to suffer like you did Wanda." she said while putting a hand on Wanda's shoulder.

Wanda was shocked at what she had just heard. To think that these two strangers would sympathies with her over her situation. Looking back on her life before coming to the asylum, her father had always been too busy with his work to pay any attention to her or her brother. The only comfort and company she had back then was her brother. He had been the one to ever shown her any comfort during her life and yet these two were comforting someone they had just met.

Before she knew it, the feelings she had repressed for so long broke free and she started crying. Wanda gave Jean a surprise hug as she let all her emotions out. While surprised, Jean quickly recovered and hugged Wanda back, stroking her back in comfort. Laura looked at the two before joining in the hug.

"Shhh, it's alright, it's alright." Jean whispered in her ear.

"You don't have be afraid anymore." Laura said.

"They're right." Came a voice from behind them. The three turned to see Professor Xavier and Ororo, along with Logan and Scott standing in the hallway. Xavier and Ororo were smiling at the scene in front of them while Scott looked confused about what was happening and who the new girl was. And Logan had his arms crossed and was smirking at the three girls.

Wanda was surprised to see the two new people she didn't recognize, but wasn't as nervous as before. She could only focus on Professor Xavier, the man who had taken her away from that horrible place, who had offered to help her control her abilities and shown her the most comfort she had ever felt in her life.

Wanda separated from Laura and Jean before tackling Xavier with a hug, which he was more than willing to return.

"Thank you..." she sniffed before looking up at Xavier with a shaky smile. "Thank you for everything."

Xavier and the others smiled warmly at Wanda, happy to see her opening up after her ordeal. It would take time, but they were all going to help her recover from her experience.

"So, umm... should we introduce ourselves or... what?" said Scott as he gestured to himself and Logan, both of whom had yet to meet Wanda in person.

The group chuckled at Scott's question, who just looked confused at why they were all laughing at him.
