The event formerly known as Night of Champions that was now known was Clash of Champions was live in front of 15,323 proud WWE fans in the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The tagline for the Pay-Per-View was Goldrush and it was sponsored by Hyundai and the new WWE 2K game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

The Pay-Per-View was set to begin with the opening match of "The King" Ced vs "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura. Two men who have accomplished a lot in their short careers in the WWE. Shinsuke was currently ½ of the SmackDown Tag Team Champions with his partner Cesaro. A lot of people were wondering how the match would shape up considering that Sami Zayn wasn't gonna be at ringside due to Ced's attack a few weeks ago on SmackDown. And you have to wonder if the fact that Ced hasn't been in the ring in weeks was gonna be an advantage to the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship.

The World Heavyweight Championship of Raw was going to be in contention as the man who had recently turned face and moved to Raw, Drew McIntyre was going to be going one on one with the man who had recently defeated former Champion, Braun Strowman, "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt.

The WWE Championship was going to be the main event of the night with the #1 contender Jey Uso taking on his cousin the WWE Champion, Roman Reigns. With Roman declaring that he be acknowledge as the "Head of the Table" as the "Tribal Chief" you had to wonder just how far he would go to prove that here tonight.

All the gold was on the line tonight and it was going to be a night that would shake the landscape of the today's WWE.

"Shadows of a Setting Sun" Hits

The fans in the Prudential Center gave a light boo as they heard the music of the #1 Contender Shinsuke Nakamura. Shinsuke walked out onto the stage with his SmackDown Tag Team title on his shoulder. Tonight, he was looking to become a double champion as ½ of the Tag Team Champions and the Intercontinental Champion.

"The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Intercontinental Championship. Introducing first, from Kyoto, Japan. Weighing in at 220 Pounds. ½ of the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, "The Artist Known As" Shinsuke Nakamura!" Hamilton announced as Nakamura began to make his way down the ramp.

Nakamura walked around to the steel steps and ran up the steps onto the apron, entering the ring. Nakamura ran towards the ropes gripping the top rope before leaning back in his eccentric rockstar like fashion, laying on the mat looking at the ceiling as Ced's music hit the PA System.

The WWE Universe cheered as they heard the music of the 3-time Intercontinental Champion. Ced walked out onto the stage as the lights started to go around in a frenzy of different color. Ced stared down at the stage floor with the white and gold strap around his waist.

"And his opponent, from Charlotte, North Carolina. Weighing in at 250 Pounds. The Intercontinental Champion, Ced!" Greg Hamilton announced.

Ced slowly rose his head up from the stage and spit out a mist of water before he started to make his way down the ramp clad in his black ring trunks his ring name and logo in gold with a white outline with black tape, knee pads and boots. The Champion kept his gaze locked on his #1 Contender. Once he reached ringside, he stopped, looking around the arena at the WWE fans. He smirked before walking around to the steel steps, walking up the steps and entering the ring making a beeline to the corner. He jumped up onto the middle ropes and unwrapped his title from around his waist and raised the title in the air as he locked eyes with Shinsuke Nakamura. He jumped down from the turnbuckle and handed the title to the referee as his music faded off into the background.

The referee raised the title in the air as Ced jumped side to side in place while staring down Shinsuke. The referee handed the title to the ring crew before he called for the bell.

2, Ced powered out at 2 sitting up. Shinsuke stalked his opponent, walking towards him hitting him with a stiff kick to the spine making Ced wince in pain as he laid back down on his back. Shinsuke looked down looking at Ced before he jumped up hitting the Intercontinental Champion with a knee drop to the head once more making him sit up as he winced in pain with a hand on his forehead. Shinsuke wrapped an arm around the throat of Ced looking to cut off the oxygen supply with a chin lock.

Ced had his hands on Shinsuke's arm trying to pull them off, but Shinsuke's grip was too strong. "Yung Simba" reached out for the ropes as the fans started to clap trying to get Ced back into the match-up. The fans clapping started to re-energize Ced making him shake his head as he and Shinsuke slowly started to rise to a vertical base. Ced with repeated elbows to the gut of Shinsuke slowly starting to get him to loosen his grip on Ced allowing "The King" to maneuver around and transition into a Belly-to-Back Suplex slamming Shinsuke flat on his back. The fans cheered as both men laid there staring at the ceiling.

Ced laid there for a minute before he quickly started to stir first rolling over onto his abdomen as he crawled for the ropes. Once he reached the ropes and started to use them to lift himself up to a vertical base, Shinsuke was starting to reach his feet. Ced shook his head trying to clear the cobwebs and walked towards Shinsuke only to get rocked with a roundhouse kick to the head making him stubble back to the ropes. Shinsuke walked towards the Intercontinental Champion and gripped him by his wrist pulling him off the ropes and sending him into the ropes across the ring with an Irish whip.

When Ced rebounded off the ropes, he attempted to take Shinsuke's head off with a clothesline but "The Artist" ducked it instead when to the ropes just like Ced did after the clothesline. Ced rebounded off the ropes and was caught with a jumping yakuza kick sending him down to the canvas. "The Artist" jumped off the turnbuckle and clocked Ced in the face with a diving knee strike. Shinsuke was fired up and looked around the arena as the fans who were booing him and cheering Ced. "Icon" Plays

"Here is your winner and STILL the WWE Intercontinental Champion: Ced!" Greg Hamilton announced as the referee walked towards the ropes grabbing the title while Ced rose to his feet as Shinsuke rolled out of the ring. The referee handed Ced the title before raising his arms in the air as the fans cheered.

Ced kept his arms raised with the title in hand as he looked around the arena with a frown on his face. He walked towards the corner and climbed the turnbuckles doing his pose with his Championships in hand.

A/N: So, I know it make literally no sense to send Drew McIntyre to Raw and have him challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, but I wanted that to somewhat line up with what's been happening in current day WWE. Especially because Survivor Series is coming up in the story and I still want Drew McIntyre vs Roman Reigns to be a match at the event.
