Chapter Two

Leah's POV

Papers were scattered all over my small kitchen island. I've been studying for the past couple of hours before my final at three. At this point my head is pounding from information overload. My phone buzzes.

"Hey beautiful. Good luck on your final! Drink after? -Liam '' I can't help but glancing over the bouquet of flowers propped on the counter across from me. A smile creeps on. Liam is a complicated story. I met him about two years ago when I first started working at one of the bars in Port Angeles. As a bartender it worked out pretty well with my shift and school schedule. As for Liam he is part of one of the bands that plays occasionally. To be honest he was kind of a drunken mistake at first. The more we saw each other at work eventually led to becoming friends with benefits. Sucks to say, but our relationship was convenient at that time. The sex helped us both relieved some stress considering at that time of the we were preparing for the newborn war and Volturi attack.

It wasn't until this past year we really got to know each other. The physical connection grew into an emotional one. We've been serious for the past 6 months. For the most part my small group of people know of him. The way Rachel met him was accidental. She stopped by the bar one night and sensed the tension. Of course everything came out. Along with the guys, I was running late to one of our meetings. Having a closing shift at the bar and slept over Liam's place in Port. I was so late I grabbed whatever clothing and rushed to the "frat house". Since Mom moved in with Charlie and I got the apartment, Jake, Embry and Quil moved in with Seth to manage the house. They smelt him all over me. They constantly make fun of me saying how I kept my dirty little secret for 2 years. Seth on the other hand wasn't too fond of it, but can tell the difference in my character. Mom, Charlie and Billy met him soon after once Rachel and the guys kept making not so subtle hints. Thankfully everyone approved of him. For the first time in a long time I can say I'm actually content with where my life has progressed.

"Yes please! You call it" I replied. "Love Buzz? I"ll pick you up at 6." "Sounds good."

A soft knock distracts my train of thought. "Coming!" I yell while mentally groaning and getting up to answer it. To my surprise it is the last person I expected. "Umm. Hey Emily." "Hey Leah. Do you have a minute?" Taking in my surroundings, I notice her coupe filled with boxes in the back seat. "Sure." I open the door wider and step aside.

"This is a cute little place you have here." Obviously taking this is her first time coming over. "Thanks. Come on sit down." Leading her to the kitchen island. She takes a seat on one of the stools. "Excuse the mess I was just studying." As I collect some papers clearing the counter space. "Oh I'm sorry. I guess I should have called." "It's fine. Do you want something to drink? Coffee, tea, water?" "Water is fine." She looks down at her hands and again around the apartment. "Those are beautiful flowers. Did your mom get you those? She always has a good eye." "Oh thanks, but umm no she didn't." I state while placing the bottle of water in front of her. Glancing you can seek a small peak of Liam's note attached. Bashful, she takes a sip. A brief moment of silence fills the room. For some reason it was a bit unsettling causing a pit in my stomach.

"So how are things, Em? Everything okay?" "Well Leah that's why I came here." Her mannerisms display her attempt to take hold of various emotions. Naturally I cross my arms and step back leaning against the counter. Is this going to be the talk we have put aside for many years?

"I know I've said it many times before and you're probably tired of hearing it, but Lee. I am truly sorry for all the hurt we caused. We never meant for it to play out the way it did. I don't know why it was me rather than you. You see to be honest even though I love you as a sister I was a bit envious of you." "Me?" I huffed. Emily gave me a side look. "Really Leah? Who wouldn't be? You're beautiful, relentless, practically every man's fantasy. You know who you are and you don't let anyone change that. I admire that. These past few months have put it in perspective for me. I'm just not happy here anymore. I feel so lonely, Leah."

"Where are you getting at, Em? I don't understand you have Sam. Shouldn't that be enough?" I took a brief pause to recollect my thoughts. "Actually I don't want to know. I don't care to get involved again. I'm finally getting my shit together." I sighed, running my hands through my hair choosing my words carefully. "If you're looking for forgiveness, you got it a long time ago. Both you and Sam. I've come to terms with it."

"That's why I came by today. I've decided to leave La Push. I'm going back home. I just wanted you to be the first to know." My stomach sank. "Sam and I are just not working out. We feel the pull of the imprint weaken. We kept it a secret for the past few months." I swallowed the sharp lump in my throat. "What we thought was love turned into resentment toward one another. We both felt suffocated in our world. The pressure to uphold "the perfect couple", the up keeping of the pack, and secluding ourselves from the people we love really had a toll on us." All I can do is nod in agreement all while looking down. Becoming part of this pack comes with sacrifices.

"It began when he casually started asking around about you. Rather than feeling jealous, I too was curious. I felt lonely. I couldn't confide in anyone. I was missing my best friend. Sister, lee."

"I don't think I'm there yet to confide in you, Em. Maybe someday we can mend this broken bridge fully, but now is not the right time. I'm still working on myself. I'm sorry." I shrug. A brief silence fills the room.

She takes a deep breath and stands up from her seat at the island. "I understand. I appreciate you for taking the time. I just wanted you to know." She starts making her way to the front door. I follow behind. As she steps onto the covered patio she says, "I really hope everything goes well moving forward. By all means I'm here for you no matter what Leah. Just give me a call or text." "Thanks, Em." A simple smile and wave and she was gone.

I lean against the front door. The alarm goes off on my phone as an indication to leave in a few if I wanted to make it on time for my final. I start packing up my notes so I can review one last time. I lock up the apartment and step into my Jeep. During the thirty minute car ride the conversation constantly replays in my head.
